Meshuggah should be included in music textbooks. I mean, they really revolutionized metal music and practically created a whole new genre of metal.
It's crazy how they've been at it for decades and now there are a lot of bands coming up who where influenced by them, even if they didn't get a more deserving mainstream recognition they were still deeply influential for metal in general.
Meshuggah - the influence of the influential, sort of like the actor's actor but for musicians
Giovanni Ambrosio they are in textbooks. There's a whole class on progressive jazz metal.
I’ve heard some college professors use there music to teach in classes.

Arnold Schoenberg defined musical success as: "When others both study and mimic you." By that definition, Meshuggah is one of the most successful metal bands there is. This sounds like something Pierre Boulez the famous 20th century composer would have come up with.

I agree, but it would be messy once it's done at a very low tuning, percussive units needs to be distinguished in order to sound musical, but hey as I said You're totally right.
The instruments would have to be custom built to down tune acoustically. Worth the money for sure.
Also the fact this sounds so true even though an octave up is a testament to their skill.
And the vocals are all out of tune. Wrong lyrics, too.

I'm blown away by the arrangement and performance. I am aware that a band like Meshuggah can be hard to listen to bythose who dislike extreme metal music. Nonetheless this is a perfect translation of the original piece. Wow

The original is one of my favorite songs ever recorded. The distortion makes it difficult to distinguish any melody in the original. You brought to life just how truly haunting the song really is. I love it. Thank you.

Any musician worth thier salt would appreciate Meshuggah. I have played in jazz bands, orchestras, and many other more modern bands. Music doesn't draw borders. People do.
The same piece as Meshuggah, but a totally unique feel and atmosphere. Amazing, you guys should have been so proud when you composed this.
The gong at 7:50 is so exciting. He literally just strikes it once but it creates a whole atmosphere of its own.
Gong are like that. Often they're only used for a single hit in an entire gig, over-used they lose all the impact.

This song is in 4, but it could also be written in 12/8, which is 4 with a triplet feel. Just depends on whether or not you feel like writing down triplets or 1/8th notes

It just makes me so happy to see gifted and curious musicians getting inspired across genres. This cool arrangement almost becomes the soundtrack for There will be blood or a Hitchcock movie - perhaps North by northwest.

I think Meshuggah is already on the curriculum and has been for a while, there are interviews with the band talking about this:) They donated a whole bunch of instruments to the music school after a fire also.
