  • The Tomb of Sultan Ahmed I is located on the northeast side of Blue Mosque, Istanbul. The construction of the mausoleum was started in 1617 under Sultan Mustafa I (brother of Ahmed I) and completed in 1619 under Sultan Osman II (son of Ahmed I). In the mausoleum, in addition to the sarcophagus of Sultan Ahmed I himself, other representatives of the Ottoman Empire are also buried (there are tombs). In total, 36 people are buried in the mausoleum, the most important of which are: Sultan Osman, Sultan Murad, Kesem Walide Sultan and the children of these sultans and Sultan Ibrahim. The architect of the tomb-mausoleum was Sedefkar Mehmed Agha, who also built the Blue Mosque.

The best thing is Sultan Ahmed, Valide Kosem Sultan and Sultan Murad iv tombs are together. They were my favorite characters when I watched the The magnificent Kosem Sultan series.

Are there actual remains in the tombs shown. I thought people were buried in the ground with no caskets.which would make the bodies disintegrate faster.

According to our best knowledge, the actual remain of Sultan Ahmed is in the tomb. The tomb was built between 1617 and 1619. It’s topped by a dome and is decorated with fine Iznik tiles. Please subscribe to our channel for more videos.

There must be a lot of little princes there with so many small caskets. I am confused as to whether their actual bodies are there or on the nearby grounds & these are empty monuments. Do you know? How many caskets are there?

@@eattravelbreathrepeat-etbr2668 Just saw they seemed to bury in the ground, but the caskets then go in the mosques. So maybe they move the remains later? 🤔

@@southernlady8809 the tomb of sultan is not in the Sultan Ahmed Mosque. The türbe (tomb) of Sultan Ahmet is on the north side of the mosque facing Sultanahmet Park.
