So I'll keep it and hope for an 8 classic upgrade next year. The 3 days I had the Ultra I did my 6.32 mile walk. I do the same route everyday with my 6 classic and I got the same distance with the ultra and my heart rate was identical to my 6 classic. So for me personally I'm glad it turned out this way because I really didn't like not having the physical rotating bezel. I really do like the look of the ultra. I hope it works out for most people.
I think the orange band is called the Marine Band. Looks like an interesting watch and look forward to the full review and hopefully comparison video with the apple watch ultra!
It is a copy/paste of the Apple Watch Ultra but these companies copy each other all the time. Samsun deserves the same hate Apple gets for their walled garden
The double pinch was already available in previous Galaxy watches. It is under the Accessibility setting. The only thing that Samsung copied is the orange band and the orange button. Design wise (squircle), it was based from the old Galaxy Gear watch.
This Samsung watch looks so cool , man. I really like the design of it and the fact that Samsung has added sapphire and titanium, 100m water resistance. Wow , that's the same toughness as the Fenix, Tactix from Garmin. I'm so curious about the accuracy of gps and the rest of the sensors . In my opinion, that looks nothing like the apple watch . People saw that orange band and assumed that is similar 🤷♂️??? No way.... 😅. Samsung has built a rugged man style watch finally. Nothing like the toyish apple ones 😂....
I'll be doing a thorough deep dive on GPS, heart rate, etc... very soon in the full review. This was just a silly quick unboxing video. I think it's hard to ignore the similarities between the Apple Ultra and Galaxy Ultra. Yeah, they're different shapes but the aesthetic is similar, and the spec sheet is nearly identical between the siren, 3000 nits of brightness, etc... Again, I really don't care who copied who and Apple has done their fair share of taking inspiration from other brands. I'm just stating the obvious!
@ChaseTheSummit that's perfect ! Can't wait to see your review 🫡. You are the best when it comes to reviewing new watches 🤝. Soon ...Fenix 8 and Tactix 8 😁
10:22 "...does not have that rotating bezel that we saw in the past on Samsung devices...I feel that moving additional part is another point of something breaking and that's because this watch is waterproof down to 10 atmospheres which means you can dive pretty deep with it." Don't know what your "pretty deep" means, Samsung says no diving below 1.5 meters with the Ultra on their own web site. Turning bezels have been on dive (and other) watches since the mid fifties, where the bezels handle pressures up to 1100 ATM. This means 110 times more than this watch static pressure rating.
Cool, that was just my theory. I don't dive so I wouldn't know. Also it seems Samsung isn't recommending diving more than 1.5M with this watch for some reason. I guess there's some more digging needed.
@@ChaseTheSummit The Galaxy Ultra is not developed according to the same standard, DIN EN 13319 which the following watches comply with: the Apple Watch Ultra (dive to 40 meters) or the (not for sale in the USA) Huawei 3 Pro, 4 Pro (both 30 meters dive capable) or Ultimate (dive down to 100 meters), or the Garmin Descent.
I returned the one I got, that strap holder (dunno what it's called) on the default band being so massive and rigid is very uncomfortable when typing or resting you arm on things. I guess I have bony arms, but still. Never had that issue on any watch before. And the trail band just looks weird when using it, facing it head on it barely shows on the one side and bulges on the other. No thanks. The bands are the downfall for this watch for me. The unit itself I really liked.
Samsung's first 3 watches (that started 2 years before the Apple Watch came out) had square displays, so I am sure they could do it again. I agree that they should have just made the display square on this one.
For the consumer’s sake, hopefully the Galaxy Ultra will get much better with its heart rate tracking. According the Quantified Scientist, it’s not even in the same class as the AWU2. Would love for Samsung to close the gap to push Apple to get even better, even though Apple Watches have been the best exercise tracking smart watches for years.
Hi, I ve had this watch for a week now. It s very very beautifull in the real life. The device is a formidable smart watch. The battery life seems to get better and better with every Day. I m not an ultra sport fan. I m just a every Day Guy, and so far this watch is formidable. Cheers from France
Hi Dave, hope you're recovered from 100 milers soreness 😊 I took a look at Galaxy watch in person and it in fact was not ugly but agree it to be heavier when worn. I think Sammy could have gone with some sort of aluminum material to make it lighter at the same time durable. I may be wrong but square design might be not possible due to wear OS ?! Fitbit uses wear OS with square display I guess. My friends using android ecosystem are excited about this and are looking forward to buy one upon some positive feedback from reviewers. Sleep apnea thing is going to be big topic of this watch but yet to be seen or heard. Thanks for unboxing video.
It’s made from titanium which is super light. Even lighter than aluminum since they can machine it thinner. I think the added weight is due to the large battery.
The Trail Band is the black one that you got free from BB purchase. The rubber is Marine. Also, Samsung Marine band has diagonal oriented oval holes (this actually makes the band hold better than Apple's circular holes. And the buckle has a double prong which clicks into the buckle. Generally speaking, the buckle and the band is superior design to Apple's, even though the look similar. I also love the trail band. Great design.... just with there were different colors and not sure how durable it is. It feels well made, however.
There’s definitely some design inspiration if you ask me and the spec sheet is nearly identical from the siren to the 3000 nit display, etc… but like I said. I don’t really care as the consumer it just means there’s more options for us! 🤷♂️
This is the first watch that offers sleep apnea detection feature, and I think everyone underlooks it. I can't (yet) find any reviews about its accuracy, but it's FDA approved, which suggests it's accurate and reliable. And if that's true, then this feature alone is worth having this watch. I can't stress how important this feature is. Most people who have this condition are not aware they have it and they are actively shortening their life spans by 10+ years by not treating it
I had Galaxy watch, Active 2, Watch 4 classic, 5 Pro and now 6 Classic But this year I'll switch to big boys - Garmin. Now I'm waiting for Fenix 8 / Epix 3 in september
My main concern is battery life. The regular galaxy watch is a 2ish day watch. It's looks almost identical to the regular galaxy watch except build quality.
I feel Samsung copied or used a previous watch (Galaxy Gear Sport) as a base and made it more rugged and removed the rotating bezel. The bands and marketing material make it look like a copy of Apple, but I feel the build materials and how it's constructed is inspired more from a Fenix/Epix with the top and bottom being titanium and the middle being a durable fiber-reinforced polymer. It's a solid watch, that's for sure. I have the Galaxy Ring too and so far like that. Oura is more detailed than Samsung Health, but I feel most of that is overkill for me. Especially since I sleep with my Garmin watch, and that's a free service and has a lot insights as well.
Long time supporter and fan here but this one seemed a little different. You just didn't seem to be enjoying yourself. I have a strong feeling that you love Garmin (they are awesome) and enjoy Apple (I've not used one) but are not too much into Samsung. I do think the Galaxy Watch gets somewhat of a bad rap but know they've not been considered by serious athletes. Do you see yourself actually using the Galaxy Watch Ultra? I would think for the very serious running you do that not much can compare to Garmin. But maybe it has a chance?
Really? I thought I was having fun with this one. Truth is I just turned the cameras on and let it roll without too much planning. I guess that’s my mistake for wanting to create something “real” for an unboxing. As for the watch? It’s been on my wrist since this video and it’s pretty neat. The in depth review coming soon will share a lot more of the pros and cons. This one is just a fun little unboxing video… nothing more!
@ChaseTheSummit thanks for the reply. I love the "let it roll" idea... maybe I'm being too hard. Glad you had fun... it certainly is a whole different device than all the rest out there. I get mine on August 7th and can't wait to see how it stacks up. Have fun with it! I look forward to your full review.
I believe the first Samsung device that had the name ULTRA in it was a smartphone, not a smartwatch. It was the Samsung Galaxy S20 series. Regardless of the Ultra name first coming from a Samsung smartwatch, Samsung still was first to use the name, ULTRA before Apple.
That's right, actually even before the S20 I think there was an S10 ULTRA that was ruggedized with a waterproof exterior? But yeah, these companies take inspiration from eachother all the time. It's not just a Samsung thing.
@@ChaseTheSummit exactly there's nothing with that. Now a few years from when Apple releases their own first foldable iPhone, every fanboys would say Apple came up with it first lol like who cares competition is what pushes these tech companies to use the newest or up to date and best tech into their devices so customers always wins lol
I really like the look of the watch as it’s different from the rest. Shame I’m iPhone for family reasons. Wonder if an app could be created to work with Apple. Hmmm food for thought.
I thought the thing was ugly as well but when I purchased it I had a complete 180 . It's interesting to me because most of the time products tend to be disappointing in hand as they don't match up to the marketing videos or pictures. The watch ultra had the opposite effect LOL
I had this watch for 10 days, and I was really hoping to finally move from Garmin to Samsung since I am already pretty deep in the ecosystem. Once again, I was wrong, this Ultra is really struggling to keep the Ultra name...the training customization is limited, the battery is a bit more than 2 days at best (w/o AOD), it can go lower than 1.5mt in the water just for 10 minutes and not in salty waters. I mean...amazing smartwatch, but once again failing on sports and activities. Gps and heart rate are very improved from the previous generation, tho, but a 23km run sucked about 30% of charge... I mean...
@christiantriesch23 live pace was way slower than my Garmin, but eventually, it goes okish. I mean not as accurate, but not way off. I got to say that sometimes I feel like the Garmin gives me a higher pace compared to my feelings. The average pace was basically the same, tho.
@@NaiveBanana i tried it on 4 runs, and on every runs it showed a pace faster than i actually did. Average Pace was alright. Big minus for me was the missing option for connecting external HR Sensors and the fast battery drain in activities, even indoor without gps, 90 mins minus 25%. Always battery anxiety :D
@christiantriesch23 Yeah, pace was faster for me as well, but again, not too much. Battery anxiety is a thing for sure.... I also noticed a problem with Vo2Max value and overnight HRV (it gave me 120ms... I mean I am 36, and my Garmin always gives me between 60 and 75 depending by the training period)
lol, its just hard not to compare them side by side when there's obviously a lot of design inspiration taken from one to the other. As I said though, I don't care... And Apple has done this in the past with their watches and phones. It's just what happens in this industry.
@@nalin_g_0588I only say that because Apple products typically “just work” and make it easy to set up and get going. Years ago Android was always a hassle but it’s come a long way since my T-Mobile G1 from 2008! Still there’s no denying that the magic to apples success is making simple things easy… like pairing, or airdropping etc…
Im jealous asf. I "pre-ordered" the silver titanium with peakform band from samsung" and its supposed to arrive by september 24th like wtf i should just cancel my order and go but it in store.

Just a more modern look and and samsung already had an orange band. Yall talk not knowing about android assuming that apple came out with something first when they never do...
Both of these companies are guilty of taking inspiration from each other. In this case it's kind of hard not to compare the two when they're so similar but hey... that's just my opinion. Like I said, I don't care who copied who.
@ChaseTheSummit I know this.. the everyone iphone don't seem to get that concept. It's not the issue of them copying each other. It's the emphasis of Samsung copying, you never get this same energy when apple does it

To be honest, I don't love the design of the AWU either lol. It's got some sort of "Submarine" vibe going on but it has grown on me over the past couple of years. I will say the Galaxy Ultra has grown on me as well as I've started to wear it daily. I need a less vibrant band for it though... the orange draws too much attention lol.
When you put them next to each other, they look nothing alike. Samsung has been making watches long before apple. The rectangular look actually comes from the galaxy gear in 2013 , and apple made their launch in 2015
You're so busy criticizing that you're wrong. You are so into they copy copy copy. The band is called the Marine Band. That's the same charger they've been using for years. Dude I saw your first comments and you came out the gate negative without even having product in hand. You literally bought the band so you can constantly keep saying apple apple apple apple. Then you say why didn't they make the design Square? because Samsung doesn't make Square watches. It seems like you're a typical Apple fanboy. If you don't care about it can you please stop talking about it and just do the review on this watch.
@@ExposedRoot 😂 my opinion is my opinion. It does not have to be your opinion. I encourage you to think for yourself and form your own opinion. Yup, I made a mistake with the name of the band. My bad…. We all make mistakes eh? I’m not really a fanboy of any brand. In fact most days I wear a Garmin and not an Apple or Galaxy. I also use a Samsung phone and Apple phone interchangeably and enjoy both for different reasons. This video is not a review. Just an unboxing and sharing MY OPINION. If you want someone to regurgitate the spec sheet for you watch one of the thousands of other RUclipsrs who were given free stuff and aren’t offering their real opinions to keep brands happy. I bought this stuff with my own money so I don’t need to please anyone. 👍
You Android fanboys sound like the teenage iphone users who look down on others for not using their phone brand or don't praise it. Not everyone has to have the same opinion as you. I have both watches and I think Samsung definitely drew inspiration from the AWU.
@ChaseTheSummit Sure you can have your opinion. But your "copy" rant has nothing to do with opinion, especially if your rant has been based on so many "alternative facts". And the "dumbest copy complaint" (to put it politely) was the one about having two separate boxes for the watch and the strap. Actually hard to believe someone would bring that! Goldon rule for a credible reviewer: only talk about something if you know what are you talking about.
First, the marine band sucks. It is too large and too thick. All of the comparisons between the Galaxy and Apple Watch are dumb. Normal people have one phone, either an iPhone or an Android. That is what determines which watch is best for them. Let us not forget that Samsung was a few years ahead of Apple in the watch market. At least you acknowledged Apple copies from Samsung, probably as much as Samsung copies Apple. On a final note, I think the nicest watch Samsung made to date is the Galaxy 6 Classic in silver. It looks great! I still traded it in for the Ultra, though.
I have a design opinion, zero technical insight: I hate the Apple watch shape, it's like kindergarten. Feminised & minimalist for no good reason. Bland like all Apple products. I am not a spring chicken, so remember real watches. That squircle shape is a throwback to those days when watch designers were exploring 'not round' cases. Back when jeans were flares, tie-dyeing was something you did in your bath, the duvet was only used in Scandinavia & people said 'hey man, stop being so square '.
No no the orange band is Marine the other one is the trail band the orange one is the Marine band That's what it's called I'm watching your video good video😅😅😅😅😅😅
So, when apple creates a foldable phone are we gonna spend 8 weeks talking about how they copied Samsung or are we going to actually talk about their functionality differences...
Never has there been a Samsung watch with Ultra in the name. To be fair they use it in their phones going back to the S20 Ultra. So long before Apple used that naming scheme. Not that anyone has a monopoly on the word Ultra. LOL The Samsung Gear S was rectangle with a curved screen. So...there you go. Nothing new under the sun. Well except politics making sense at all. Yet to see that.
Your review is all over the place 😂 the double pinch was one the galaxy4/5/6 The marine- orange band was on the gear s sport 5 years ago. Stop making it sound like Apple invented these things 😂.
Sliding the finger around the bezel didn’t work well on the Garmin 405 and it doesn’t work well now.
Apples and Oranges. These new watches have incredible CPUs and response times.
You can get end adapters and use 22mm bands and they look great
Samsung's first 3 watches (that started 2 years before the Apple Watch came out) had square displays, so I am sure they could do it again. I agree that they should have just made the display square on this one.
Does it have a dive mode like apple watch ultra ?
Nope
Thy, you have a new sub, really nice style on how you did the review.
I ordered band adapters to take Garmin velcro straps. Samsungs velcro band has too much weight. Velcro band life 😍
What width is the strap please (ie fenix 47mm is 22mm) can't find the info for this anywhere, if it's 24/26mm no thanks.
It’s definitely in the 25-26 range
@@ChaseTheSummit thank you
I'm using a 22mm Velcro with adapters from Amazon, super comfortable and look great.
that band is called marine band. the one you got for free is trail band
Right! Whoops!
It is much better and matches closely with my Epix Pro. Samsung finally improved their sensors.
They have an open unit at the Best Buy store that you see and touch before buying it.
Great video Dave but I'm still not convinced by either Apple or Samsung Watch Ultra and will stick to Garmin!
Hi,
I ve had this watch for a week now.
It s very very beautifull in the real life.
The device is a formidable smart watch. The battery life seems to get better and better with every Day.
I m not an ultra sport fan. I m just a every Day Guy, and so far this watch is formidable.
Cheers from France
I love this watch.I have it 1 week and is a beast.I give back my apple watch ultra
waiting for fenix 8 pro or the runner 975
Comments are gonna be interesting. Thanks for the video!
Buckle up! Yee haw! 😂
For incoming phone calls on the watch, I don't see the quick reply any longer when you swipe up. I.e. "I'll call you back"
The pinch function is on my current watch 5 just for context.
To me the 7 ultra looks nothing like the apple watch, unless you consider the orange band which by the way is optional.
Most people who have this condition are not aware they have it and they are actively shortening their life spans by 10+ years by not treating it
@@pawninwordsandsoon yeah super cool! I’ll be digging deeper into that in the full review coming soon.
I had Galaxy watch, Active 2, Watch 4 classic, 5 Pro and now 6 Classic
But this year I'll switch to big boys - Garmin. Now I'm waiting for Fenix 8 / Epix 3 in september
I have all the garmin watch. This samsung ultra is far far away better from garmin.
Seems líke the perfect watch for Chafe the Summit
😆
I got 1, sent it back.. il stick to the apple watch ultra 2 with titanium strap
Commenty McComment
we want a test vs garmin epix 51mm
It’s coming!
Apple reviewers checking out the comp.
That's the marine band, not the trail band.
Right! Super similar though. Thanks!
The band you have there is the Marine band my dude
Yep, my mistake
@@ChaseTheSummit I am low key hoping my wife doesn’t see this new GWU because I am going to end up taking a trip to Best Buy and get her one. Ugh
I really like the look of the watch as it’s different from the rest.
Shame I’m iPhone for family reasons.
Wonder if an app could be created to work with Apple. Hmmm food for thought.
Not the trail band . It's the Marine band. Made of butedien rubber..
Right, my mistake.
that band mec was avail in oppo watch one
Double tap in galaxy watch literally came before the apple watch ultra !!!
I thought the thing was ugly as well but when I purchased it I had a complete 180 . It's interesting to me because most of the time products tend to be disappointing in hand as they don't match up to the marketing videos or pictures. The watch ultra had the opposite effect LOL
I agree, the initial marketing material wasn't very attractive. It looks better in person.
Why don’t they use type c for charging?
It’s hard to make that port water proof to 100 meters
@@Jay151 make the battery bigger & a flap to cover it?
I mean...
didnt you have problems with live pacing data? It was way off for me
@christiantriesch23 live pace was way slower than my Garmin, but eventually, it goes okish.
@@NaiveBanana i think HRV Variations are normal if you are not wearing the watch very snug. I get that on my AWU as well.
This is not trail band...it's marine band..
Yep my mistake. They look very similar
I ageee with you Dave, that is a hideous device 😮
It’s huge or do you have small hands! 😊
Both I think 😂
Once everyone learns that Apple does not own the colour "Orange" or the name "Ultra", the world will be a much happier place 😁
lol, its just hard not to compare them side by side when there's obviously a lot of design inspiration taken from one to the other. As I said though, I don't care... And Apple has done this in the past with their watches and phones. It's just what happens in this industry.
cant wait to see if gps is good for 50k 80k ultra races...
I find it crazy how our brains are gaslit into thinking that a good ecosystem feature is "applesque"
@@ChaseTheSummit yeah man I meant no hate I was just saying how other companies deprive us of a good ecosystem and when we finally get it it's unreal
Lol every apple fan boys are the same😂😂
So are the comments from android fans 😂 Also, take a look at my wrist... I don't wear an apple watch most days. I typically wear a Garmin.
Im jealous asf. I "pre-ordered" the silver titanium with peakform band from samsung" and its supposed to arrive by september 24th like wtf i should just cancel my order and go but it in store.
Mine was pre ordered as well and it seems like I won’t be getting my ring anytime soon 🤷♂️
A Samsung Apple Watch Ultra
Why make a watch that need to charge all the time.
Ask Apple 🤷♂️
Why do we always think someone copying apple... you went to go as far as say the charger looks like apple's they've always looked like that. The design of the watch isn't even knew.
It's the emphasis of Samsung copying, you never get this same energy when apple does it
Lol reviewers like you would say Apple invented Orange color 😂😂😂
I don’t really have a bias. In fact my daily watch is a Garmin not an Apple or Samsung.
@@ChaseTheSummit yet you say it's a copy of Apple
@@user-007-wtf I’m not sure how you could look at these two watches and not think that 😂 but seriously, form your own opinion. I’m just some guy on RUclips. 👍
@ChaseTheSummit That is hypocrisy when you say how could you look at these two watches and not think of that...just because of orange color you say its a copy!..I know you are just some youtube guy buy you make videos so that you give info to people and people follow you so you need to be careful of what you say!
I think it looks better than the apple ultra
Are you okay? Who hurt you? Everyone is allowed to have their opinion, including a RUclipsr doing a review. 🫶🏼🫶🏼
I have a design opinion, zero technical insight:
I hate the Apple watch shape, it's like kindergarten.
Be different Samsung and stop trying 2 look like Apple 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻🤦🤦🤦
No no the orange band is Marine the other one is the trail band the orange one is the Marine band That's what it's called I'm watching your video good video😅😅😅😅😅😅
They basically copied Apple but made it look naff.
So, when apple creates a foldable phone are we gonna spend 8 weeks talking about how they copied Samsung or are we going to actually talk about their functionality differences...
Yup, we’ll probably talk about how it’s a copy.
@@ChaseTheSummit good strategy
Soooo...were you wrong?
To be determined. It’s growing on me but I still don’t love the squircle.
It is not the best looking watch in my opinion. I had an early version of a Galaxy watch and it wasn’t good, so I don’t think this is for me.
Apple Watch Ultra laughing 🤣
Never has there been a Samsung watch with Ultra in the name. To be fair they use it in their phones going back to the S20 Ultra. So long before Apple used that naming scheme. Not that anyone has a monopoly on the word Ultra. LOL The Samsung Gear S was rectangle with a curved screen. So...there you go. Nothing new under the sun. Well except politics making sense at all. Yet to see that.
Your review is all over the place 😂 the double pinch was one the galaxy4/5/6
The marine- orange band was on the gear s sport 5 years ago. Stop making it sound like Apple invented these things 😂. Now my question is the Garmin Epic pro gen 3 do you think they will add more smartphone intranational? Love your videos.
@@andrewriley3483 yeah sorry this was literally an “in real life” unboxing. I left the cameras on and opened the box and talked through it. Not a review… that’s coming down the road!
