J-hope is one of the rappers and songwriters in BTS, the band who made HYBE Labels what it is today. TXT, the male band you reacted to, is under the same label (BigHit Music) and from NewJeans (the girl group) at least one of the members became an artist because of her admiration for BTS.
J. Cole and j-hope met each other last year during Chicago's Lollapalooza, where each of them headlined a different day during the festival. Hobi (both his band mates and fans use often this nickname) told Cole he was his muse. He started as a dancer (he was part of a street dance crew since pretty young age) and only wanted to make his own music after listening to J Cole's work. I'm guessing this collab was born after this encounter

You missed the very end. J Hope is one member of the enormously popular (globally) seven member group, BTS. They have a massive fan base. There are 4 vocalists and 3 rappers . . J Hope is one of the rappers and he (and the others, Suga and RM) are very good at rapping. BTS Ugh, 1Verse (j Hope) and a lot more. The have a huge genre of music and all 7 are very talented.

Just cause BTS is a Korean boyband group that doesn’t mean pop is the only genre they’ll explore, the three main rappers, J-hope, Suga, and RM started from underground and made their way up. They’ve made a name for themselves and they’re definitely bigger than the category itself.
J Cole colab with J hope because jhope is amazing artist like him. They are both famous and a talented artist.

All seven members have worked extremely hard, struggling to survive (from all 7 sharing one room in an apartment/completing their Masters degrees/collaborations with multiple American artists, etc.), to get where they are today. @@realdealmoo there is no actually a "kpop type flow". What Western media and streaming platforms call kpop has barely anything in common other than coming from South Korea and being on the pop side of things. What South Korea calls "kpop" is their "idol music" industry. A whole industry which combines music, visual concepts, choreography at the level of competitive dance crews and a very close relationship between the artists ("idols") and fans
The genres artists in idol music chose are a wide spectrum. BTS, the band j-hope comes from started their journey inside the idol music industry but with a very strong hip-hop presence. This was in 2013 and since then they're overgrown any label. You can find songs in lots of genres inside their catalogue, and even more if you add in their solo work. As expected, the rappers among the crew (j-hope is one of them) are still leaning more heavily into hip-hop than anything else

I got "into the rabbit hole" because I was playing an automated "radio" for Korean Hip-hop (the kind you start by choosing a song or artist) and j-hope's "Airplane" caught my attention.
