Just got my order today. I decided to buy my mother a ZEX for Valentine's Day. Before I gave it to her, I can't help but try it on for myself. As someone who has owned the KZ ZST X and the KZ DQ6, The KZ ZEX is by far the most impressive pair of IEMs I've ever laid my hands on (sorry if I'm mistaken lol I don't have a lot of IEMs under my portfolio so please excuse the apparent KZ bias). I currently switch between the ZST X and the DQ6, and the ZEX has impressed me by how natural and clean its output is. I use the ZST X for micro-detail and because I'm a treble-loving listener. I gotta say, the highs can be a bit too much for other people, but I'm able to tolerate the peaking of it to a certain degree. The low-end is not really that prominent, however, and considering when the ZST X came out, it can be considered a bit outdated in the market. Comparing it to the ZEX is easy. The ZEX puts emphasis on the low-end, but it sounds very clean and as someone who has had bad impressions of bass-focused earphones, I am quite impressed. I feared that the ZEX's treble will be quite recessed, but they seem to be on similar levels with the ZST X. What makes the ZEX's high-end prevail, however, is that it sounds as natural as the low-end. I've heard some earphones with boosted treble, but the ZEX has treble that is both loud and clean to the point where I can consider it CRYSTAL CLEAR. Not muddy at all. The DQ6 can still stand up to the ZEX in some aspects. the DQ6 sounds fun to listen to and makes music enjoyable. However, it turns out that I would be much more impressed with the ZEX's clean and natural audio output compared to the DQ6's boosted presentation. I do not know if this is what audiophiles consider to be a neutral sound signature, but I find the ZEX to be more pleasant for monitoring. I listened to Sailing Before The Wind's Immemorial EP and was happy to find out that it excels in detail retrieval. Micro-detail is one of my sought-after aspects of earphones, headphones and IEMs, so seeing that the clean tone of the ZEX makes it easier for me to catch certain sounds that I would not hear when using boosted or peaky IEMs. Now, I'm tempted to order another ZEX for personal use. However, I still wonder if I should look out for the CRN/ZEX Pro. Is one an upgrade over the other, or are they different IEMs altogether? What exactly must I consider when choosing them in terms of presentation? The ZEX is already impressive, so I'm concerned that the ZEX Pro may not be that high of a jump compared to the ZEX.
Thanks for the review! I just switched from a ZSN Pro X to the ZEXs and I really miss the clarity of highs and vocals on my ZSNs but the trade-off is pretty good since I can listen for longer periods of time with the ZEXs compared to the ZSNs.
@@Sooryadath I actually prefer the zex more than the zsn pro x, as the highs are less sibilant and I feel the zex has slightly more details and overall cleaner than zsn pro x
@@Sooryadath yeah the zsn pro x is tiring for long listen, the zex is more comfortable. Bass is lesser on zex, but for me I would say is the right amount. If you are a bass head than you won't really like the zex but it has a good amount of bass to make music fun. And pretty good sub bass extension too.
Oh shit. i missed the premiere. Late to the party. Good review as always from our one and only zpolt. i prefer big bore tips like bgvp a07 on it ( a shameless copy of acoustune aet07) the stock tips confine the sound too much.
@@beanos2287 Yeah it's hard to tell without trying them honestly. Everyone's ears are slightly different so the vocals might be spot on for me while zpolt's perception is that they're recessed. They should arrive anytime now so kinda excited to give them a try still, i kept hearing about the DQ6 and the ZEX so let's see what it's all about 🤞
@@beanos2287 yea they're very mixed, a lot say dq6 and others say zex. I asked some people on head fi and again a lot said dq6 as well so i said fuck it, might as well get them both haha. I'll probably use one of them in bluetooth mode with the KZ AZ09 and keep the other one wired for pc gaming / music
Using an electrostatic driver instead of cheap BA’s is a good move. It has better resolution and nuance than BA’s in this price range. But kz needs to find an audio engineer for their products. All of them have good potential but sound best if you tweak it with equalizer. Yes they are the king of budget but nothing else. When you bump up your budget above 45 or 50 bucks all the magic of kz vanishes. I personally don't think people should praise their products as much as they do usually. I assure you that you will be impressed with the seperation capabilities of every kz or cca model. But the texture of the notes, timbre and overall sound quality is not on par with the alternative options like kbear or trn. Especially in the high price range; buying a kz for 70 or 80 bucks is downright crazy.
@@TheStemo1 don't expect miracles; it's a cheap iem; but if you have ever wanted to hear nuanced notes of a violin, or tuba in sub 20$ iem than you will be pleased with this one.
Hi, I'm planning to purchase a portable DAC-AMP to be used with BLON BL-03, So I've two options. 1. *Shanling UA2* - @$93 (ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M DAC Chip) 2. *iBasso DC-05* - @$80 (Dual DAC- ESS ES9219C)- (RELEASING soon in my country) Unfortunately THESE two DACs are costing more or less the same, only $13 difference.

@@ramasingh3000 Shanling ua1 or ua1 pro is more than sufficient for blon bl03. I have ua1. It drives quite well. Heard ua2 drains the phone battery quite fast. If you are planning to use 2.5 balanced output, ua2 will be a better option.

@@ramasingh3000 You can't go wrong with UA1!! Since I am already using it, I can say it's pretty good for blon bl03. But ibasso can be future-proof as I heard it performs better than UA1 for more demanding IEMs. I have ordered UA2 during the black Friday sale through a cousin for 76.50$ which I believe is a great deal from Linsoul. Will be using it with a Laptop/desktop and specifically with the 2.5 mm balanced output. Ordered Aria as well and waiting for all these to arrive!!!

I'm not as best as zpolt's recommendation but for 30$ you can buy Blon-03 and buy spinfit cp100 or cp145 with it. It has bad cable but it can last for months or a year. But you can always replace cable if you have extra bucks. Also, Reecho sg-01 is recommended If there's promotion, bqeyz Kc2 if you can buy it at 30$.

Hey Zpolt! Bought the Moondrop Quarks cause of your review about them and as well as others. I love the sound which to my ears is clean and I guess a bit detailed? It's better than my Final E2000s cept for soundstage, imaging and bass impact. Quarks has bass but only a little it's more of a thud than rumble which I find a bit lacking but it's okay-ish i guess since I feel like my ears are quite sensitive of trebles and overwhelming bass. But I would like to ask if you have a recommendation for my next buy? A step up from this. Something that would give me a wow factor. Thinkjng of the Tin T3 Plus or the Arias but if you have something in mind then I'm all ears. Just under $80 bucks tho 😅
Great review as always. Didn't like this much. It's a new member in Team Dark wearing V-shaped pants ;-) I find the mids and treble lacking. BL03 is still the Team Captain in Team Dark -- much better mids but it has fit and seal issues, and needs extra work and purchases on tips and cable.

@@he.236 well eartips are subjective to each person since we have different sizes, shape, ear canal, iem. Foam tips for me makes the sound more warmer, more bass and way moreless treble. I find foam tips good for old KZ iems that has piercing highs because it tames the treble. However, spinfits doesn't affect much of the sound signature than foam tips. Cp100 (to be exact) makes the sound better on mid and treble but less bass. Now, Spinfits do have a long stem which is perfect for the Blon-03's short nozzle. Blon-03's nozzle are smaller so you may still gonna put some O'rings on the stem of the spinfits if you're gonna use it for Blons. For the comfort, I'll choose spinfits of course. They're the most comfortable eartips for me. It is so perfect to my ears and it adjusts to your ear canal when you wear it. Just find the right size for ya. You'll not regret it.
Don't go for zex. Zex treble is fine than other Kz's I've tried but trust me, Find other options. Many options within that price range. Search for warm sounding iems instead.
The only KZs I liked were the kz es4. If you need something warm and accurate and easy to listen to then the es4 are good, but I recently bought the QKZ vk4 and I think they’re great, even better than the es4.
Zs10 pro is the best except for the piercing treble. Treble in zex is better. Bass is lower in zex and almost at the mid (good for bass players) but the subbass is so low. But overall sounding, zs10 pro is still great if you like V shaped iem. Just tone down the treble of zs10 pro using equalizer and that does the job.
I bought the KZ ZEX and didn't like it at all. It sounds hollow, the mids are so thin, the BASS pleads everywhere. I bought the QKZ VK4 and it is sounds much better than the ZEX.

From that I've seen the DQ6 is superior, less bass bleed into the mids and better comfort.

I still love tfz. My recent review is the live 3. Theres a new no 3 so not sure if its the same as the $100+ one I have reviewed, but if its the same and you like bass, yes go for it.

Hey Zpolt! Bought the Moondrop Quarks cause of your review about them and as well as others. I love the sound which to my ears is clean and I guess a bit detailed? It's better than my Final E2000s cept for soundstage, imaging and bass impact. Quarks has bass but only a little it's more of a thud than rumble which I find a bit lacking but it's okay-ish i guess since I feel like my ears are quite sensitive of trebles and overwhelming bass. But I would like to ask if you have a recommendation for my next buy? A step up from this. Something that would give me a wow factor. Thinkjng of the Tin T3 Plus or the Arias but if you have something in mind then I'm all ears. Just under $80 bucks tho 😅
Arias for me would be nice. Or get getting a hybrid would be cool as well like maybe some tri meteor, hidizs ms2.

Great review as always. Didn't like this much. It's a new member in Team Dark wearing V-shaped pants ;-) I find the mids and treble lacking. BL03 is still the Team Captain in Team Dark -- much better mids but it has fit and seal issues, and needs extra work and purchases on tips and cable.

@@he.236 well eartips are subjective to each person since we have different sizes, shape, ear canal, iem. Foam tips for me makes the sound more warmer, more bass and way moreless treble. I find foam tips good for old KZ iems that has piercing highs because it tames the treble. However, spinfits doesn't affect much of the sound signature than foam tips. Cp100 (to be exact) makes the sound better on mid and treble but less bass. Now, Spinfits do have a long stem which is perfect for the Blon-03's short nozzle. Blon-03's nozzle are smaller so you may still gonna put some O'rings on the stem of the spinfits if you're gonna use it for Blons.
For the comfort, I'll choose spinfits of course. They're the most comfortable eartips for me. It is so perfect to my ears and it adjusts to your ear canal when you wear it. Just find the right size for ya. You'll not regret it.
@@he.236 additionally, spinfits will last year/years while most of the foam tips last for about a week.

Don't go for zex. Zex treble is fine than other Kz's I've tried but trust me, Find other options. Many options within that price range. Search for warm sounding iems instead.
The only KZs I liked were the kz es4. If you need something warm and accurate and easy to listen to then the es4 are good, but I recently bought the QKZ vk4 and I think they’re great, even better than the es4.

zs10 pro or zex
Zs10 pro is the best except for the piercing treble.
Treble in zex is better.
Bass is lower in zex and almost at the mid (good for bass players) but the subbass is so low.
But overall sounding, zs10 pro is still great if you like V shaped iem. Just tone down the treble of zs10 pro using equalizer and that does the job.

I bought the KZ ZEX and didn't like it at all. It sounds hollow, the mids are so thin, the BASS pleads everywhere. I bought the QKZ VK4 and it is sounds much better than the ZEX.
