Cool beans, you picked up my version of the mchf. Now yours matches mine in firmware.... I just learned mine too has the internal battery. Holy smokes this is fabulous. So many criticized the orange button model because of incompatability with software due to a different display. I am now glad I blindly selected the one with the bs 188 display.

I brought a bs-188 a couple of years ago. Updated formware to 2.13 as was 2.12 before. However ive not seen any bootloader updates. Would it be possible to uplad a copy of your bootloader that i could try.
I'm looking to buy one if these but it seems it's a lottery which one arrives. I looked on Ebay since I'm in Cyprus I'm limited in where I can buy one. Any idea where I can purchase the black knob type. As I've been reading as you rightly said changing the firmware on the orange knob type is a no no or a pain.

Hi I have just been reading the difference between the two radios, This one uses a none standard screen, that the normal firmware doesn't have the drivers for, so please don't up-date your firmware as you will end up with no screen, Dave 2E0DMB

Hi , love the portability.
Do NOT be tempted to upgrade the firmware on this BS188 it will brick it causing a white screen. Its a pain to fix 2;13 is as far as it goes

Hi don't mess with tye Red button model .
When i transmit with the mic nothing comes up on the meter of mine any ideas?
If using lsb switch to fm see if it does anything also check your power level and swr.
