A Incident has been reported on Black Mesa Research Facility in New Mexico. The HECU Marines must be quarantine the entire Black Mesa but nobody they did not expect an unprecedented disaster.
25 hours after the incident of Black Mesa, the last helicopters of the HECU (before pulled out) are on their way with the Corporal Shephard.
This experience to make the entire intro in first person has been 1 year and 4 months of work on SFM and After Effect. I started this project since before to celebrate 20 years of the expansion pack Half-life: Opposing Force (19, November, 2019). This is a real Challenge to finish this project, thanks to a friend, I was able to offer you a casiment video in 4K without even wanting to ask for this format and now is finaly done. I'm so glad to make this video with a multiple collaborations for share a good person who's made a excellent content fot the Half-life Community.
I know my english is not my primal language. If you see grammar errors, tell me too on the commentary and I will correct the description.

As cool as black Mesa is, it just stings that the tram ride is way too short (no branrey clhuone DDDDDDDD:) on a rail is unnecessarily short and just straight up boring and Xen now has fucking plug puzzles.
I want a rework, not an "improved" revamp.

Adrian actually has brain cells to solve puzzles to advance and make use of Black Mesa personnel to escape the facility. It was to be fair, huge plus for his team to not learn about the mission objective, since they got help from Scientists after their osprey crashed.

I'm pretty sure Adrian learned out somewhere how the Military's real missions but choosen not to follow them and instead follow his own mission which is to survive and get the hell out of Black Mesa

Adrien Shepherd's story is my favorite out of all of the Half Life lore and characters. I know that the HECU were the antagonists to Gordon and the science team, but they were just following orders. They were sent into an incredibly hostile situation as a "clean up" crew. They were basically sent to their deaths. Seeing the emotions the marines have as their brothers in arms fall to the invading Xen forces is so intense. They obviously are still human and care, but they're given a gun and told to shoot or die.
The black ops are then sent in as the clean up clean up crew

This is why the Black Mesa incident should be made into a film trilogy with each film based on each game (Half-Life, Opposing Force and Blue Shift).

@@djwc6 _Decay_ would be a 6-minute IMAX prologue, a short story about Colette Green and Gina Cross' journey from delivering the Xen crystal at Sector C Test Labs, to their tragic deaths on Xen. Hence, why we see dead HEV-suited bodies in the game, and also in the "film".
The problem with that idea is that gordon is not a "character", he is just the player's representation.
He doesn't have a voice, he doesn't have a personality... he is just you

@@AngrySilence Only Gina has confirmed to have died in the Black Mesa Incident (even although no one cares what Randy Pitchford states). Colette, on the other hand, is still open to fan interpretation and theory.
It's a shame we don't see sheperd in Half life 2 like Barney.

1:22 Woah, I actually never noticed that they put the canyon scene from surface tension until I watched this video, and you can see the jets fly by at around 0:37, the same jets that you see when Gordon first comes out of that sewer pipe overlooking the canyon in surface tension, I've never noticed that and it blew my mind. I love that attention to detail!
The Apache also at 0:37 is maybe the same one that Gordon probably shoots down.

It’s the same place but not the same time. Adrian is arriving with the HECU sometime around the chapters Office Complex and We’ve Got Hostiles, he’s unconscious for the rest of the day after the crash
@@laylaruan yeah, you might be right because you don't see Adrian's helicopter from Gordan's point of view, nor do you see the crashed helicopter that Gordon took down from Adrian's point of view
edit: though there is a rock wall blocking where it would have crashed so it might still be there. Also I imagine that they didn't send all of HECU to black mesa at the same time, I think they would send more as the problem continued to grow, so I think it still might be the same time, just right after Gordan leaves that canyon area
"Yeah I'm gonna be pissed too when I have to search and rescue out your sorry ass." That scene is so well done. Everyone is joking around and suddenly there's an extremely hostile situation, and the Osprey goes down. Really adds to the feeling that you don't know what's gonna happen. It's a surprise everytime you play.
It hurts even more with the fact that the guy who said that died with the his buddy who he was joking with shouting for the medic to save him.

This movie is something 90% of Half-Life fans have been waiting for. This material, both the quality and the presentation of the events, is both professional and stunning. This video perfectly works with amazing videos called "Half-Life: Unforeseen Consequences part 2". Very Nice.

@Tuzlu Masa it's not for black mesa source, hell, they don't even use the same textures and props, they're making their own standalone half life mod

The HECU keeps getting more and more humanized. Black Mesa was just the tip of the iceberg.
I also like the mixed use of Marines from HECU Remastered, and the BMS HGrunts.

This video is one of my favourite SFM animations on the internet, my only complaints is the desert in the background looks a bit plain and the helicopter crash although amazing, could've had more details. 10/10.

Excellent work. I Always thought about animating this intro but you did it justice.
My goodness, the quality of this short film already makes me feel like I'm watching a blockbuster. It's just perfect, no doubt about it. It also makes want to finally play Oppossing Force. I never played the retail version, only a demo. Thanks to you however, I'll take my chance with it. Keep up the good work and good luck with your further SFM endeavours.

@@bredoffender to be honest, I did my homework and finished it thrice. On the sidenote, I'm waiting for the PS2 fan-made port by supadupaplex. He already did an amazing port of Blue Shift for that system (thanks to FreeMcBoot I was able to play it on original hardware), so once the PS2 version of OF is complete, I'll definitely take a 'forth' shot at it. Still, thanks for the advice ;)

I like the added touch-- You didn't just skip straight from the crash to the medic, you gave us some extra in between, showed everyone how he and his squadmates got there. Love it.

Damn this video has been in development for quite some time and the hard work clearly paid off. Well done.
This just shows how messed up the Black Mesa Incident was and how much of its unforeseen consequences came through due to the negligence of all factions involved in the incident.
Its mind boggling when you think about what was going on all at once, Freeman running around, aliens, soldiers, all looking for each other or Freeman or both. Then the War outside lol.
Man this is pretty good! Its impressive to see how far SFM animation has come these days.
Also I always found it sense of disbelief breaking that the military was sent in to kill everyone at black mesa. That just screams "Obvious cover up" to anyone with half a brain cell when they realize that thousands of the worlds best scientists and one of the world's premier research facilities disappears in a nuclear cloud after a US marine task force is sent in and returns with no facility survivors.
Freeman's Mind had it right, you can't cover up something with that many bodies. It sticks out.
Of all the Xen aliens that where send to invade Black Mesa i think the Mantas are the most terrifying. The things can keep up with modern jet fighters, have energy beams that can detroy anything and can teleport out of nowhere. Good thing Gordon never had to fight one but i think those things don't lock onto small targets either.
When in a four-minute movie you worried about the soldiers more than for the whole game.

@@jamoningo Not exactly. This scene was done in Source engine, yes. But it was done in an editor called Source film maker. So it's definitely not "in-game"

i love this, even though its just a better and slightly longer version of the opening of Opposing Force it just gives for story, and has more emotion, overall 9/10

Fun Fact: The Dud near the door of the Heli-Plane let go of the handle and just jumped out
Its not actually that unresonable of an assumption. I know of story of a dude in Vietnam who fell out of his helicopter after it got hit and everyone else died in the crash, but he survived. I'd certinaly take my chances falling 50-100 feet over burning alive in a crash.
@@kazak8926 but then you might have broken bones and would be hemorrhaging internally from the impact, assuming the fall isn't that high and something cushions your landing.
@@kazak8926 The trees might have helped absorb his fall in Vietnam. I don't think its the same in the desert unless there was a sandy hill nearby. Lore wise it wouldn't help anyway because the Black Mesa incident scattered throughout the entire world with the portal storms and millions if not a billion people died.

In the back ground you can see the canyon which freeman once fight through, I wish we got a remake of the opposing force, i only played the first half life but opposing force is the only one I ever wanted to also play. The scenery looks like a real awesome war zone and they actually put more interesting aliens and weapons in the game, unlike the blue shift and half life 2.

This was a fantastic animation! It does even more to humanize the HECU teams. Good stuff!
Loved it, especially the right after the crash and they set up on the corner. Makes the HECU's look like a proper fighting force there trying to pull out themselves into a breather as they get dropped into a shitstain scenario. I like to magine now that if Opposing Force would've released some years later than it did it would've looked at least similar to this, very well done.
Literally just watching these vids take in for what is going to be in Operation Black Mesa or if there is Black Mesa: Opposing Force. :D

This is actually legendary, I played Half Life Opposing Force when it first released and it was amazing to play through the eyes of the marines.
This remake/remaster is absolutely phenomenal on every level, they should 100% remake the whole thing exactly like this as it just adds such a new depth to it all with this level of graphics and detail, stunning.

One thing I do find mildly annoying is that they keep calling them “Medics” when they should be called “Corpsman” since they are in the Marines.

You know something? I haven't played Opposing Force in forever, but this honestly makes me want to revisit this masterpiece, and I can't wait for a remake to hit the electronic marketplace of Steam. I don't mind if the remake is delayed for a few years just to get as much juicy detail/ storylines etc.. in it as possible. If this was even a multiple party remake, I'd still buy it! I am a huge Half-Life fan after all, so seeing even the littlest of detail in a great game like this is just so satisfying! Best of luck to the people working to make this amazing project a whole!
Opposing Force was the first Half-Life franchise game I played, it was great and I enjoyed every minute of it. This just brings back all those memories and more, I was on the edge of my seat! It was amazing what you did, I played Opposing Force so many times, and what you did really put a smile on my face :D Fantastic work!
