this video reminds me of my rc life which started in 1994.i remember when a 1700mah ni-cad SCRC battery was like a perfect battery for racing and plenty of duration for bashing!i remember buying my first upgrade Ko propo cx-7 esc and trinity 10x3 modified brushed motor.i was not sleeping because of the excitement i had!!i was running my traxxaa rad2 in the street and cars stopped and ask me all the time.good times.this video is so nostalgic and a bit sad for me because life was simpler back then at least for us rc friends.thank you for reading and keep rc where it belongs,in our hearts with so many memories.
Thanks so much for your nice words! 👍 Excactly as you said, life was easyier definitely, or maybe it was only because we were younger! 😊 But to stay in contact and share our passion arround the world is the good thing of modern times!
Thank you for sharing your life in rc cars for the last 30 years with us. Your talent for photography and editing shows clearly from a young age, maturing into a world class rc car video maker you are today. Like a fine wine, you only get better as time goes by :). Very nicely buildt cars of yours back then too. Cheers.
Sometimes..... play with my tamiya rc can bring back my childhood... memories... thats why i like tamiya... it.s all bout hobby n journey of my live... thanks.. for your video...
Thanks for sharing your Tamiya retrospective! It certainly brought back memories of my first purchase in 1984/85: The Tamiya Fox. Today, it sits proudly on display in my home computer office. Glad to meet another "old-timer" in the rc hobby ;) Cheers!
Man i love your videos! This one takes me back because I have owned several of the very same ones you have. Please continue the nostalgia series of videos my friend they rock!
What a wonderful trip down memory lane. I got my first RC at the age of 53 years old in April 2016. I now have 9 and I am totally addicted. I really enjoyed this video and your channel Matteo, thank you. Thumbs up. :))
I love it, I am a few years younger and those cars were all out of reach in the 80s. Now I have a little boy and recently found out the Lunchbox is still around, so it'll be my first proper RC car. I'll have a ton of fun with my little one. I really enjoyed your pictures, brought back visions of the 80s. Thank you!
We can see where your passion of film and RC stems from, Matteo! I wish I had taken more photo's back in the 80's of my Tamiya's. That was a beautiful look into your RC history and thank you so much for sharing it with us!
Absolutely enjoyed the journey, well done Matteo! The photo album is amazing my friend, thank you for sharing made me miss all my 80's tamiya rc cars. Grasshopper, Frog, Midnight Pumpkin, Clodbuster, Futaba Fx10, Kyosho Motorcycle, Blackfoot, Rc 10's, and Losi Jrx2.
So lucky to have all those rc cars at that age. I remember as a kid my uncle had a blackfoot and a sand scorcher he always tinkered with and that got me in love with the hobby. Never got hobby grade rcs but i never lost my lking for it and plan to get into it so my son can enjoy it. Great vid thanks.
Thanks Matteo, that stirred up some old memories. I wish I'd taken photos right from when I got my first Tamiya, the Grasshopper 31 years ago, well it will be 31 years in june. It's videos like yours, that drive me to put more up, and make a better job of each one. Thank you so much for the trip down memory-lane
Hi Matteo, I'm in my 40's and my first Tamiya RC car was the Frog also. It was indeed a kind of magical time for me and a dream to finally own one of these fantastic RC kits. Some 3-4 years earlier around 1980 I was standing in our local hobby store watching Tamiya's promotional video on the Sand Scorcher and Holiday Buggy. Prior to this I had RC cars from Radio Shack but they were toys. When I saw the Tamiya RC cars in 1980 I knew I had to have one. By 84 I had the Frog and I had a blast with that thing. Many more Tamiya RC cars followed and some non Tamiya too, however Tamiya RC holds a special place in my heart since it captivated my imagination and thrilled me as a young lad.... Great video's Matteo! And thanks for sharing your Tamiya RC beginnings with us.
howlingmaddmurdock Thank you so much for so many good words! We have nearly the same RC history! And I think it's the same with my passion for Tamiya, the early years in the 80es was a magic time!
Very nicely done video. And, great photography! I wish i had created an album back in the 80s and 90s. But seeing these still brought back some good memories. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing the Tamiya from the past. There is a lot of love for these early chassis and you have very good taste in favorites. Cheers and keep RC'ing!
Thank you for sharing this photo album with us. This is the way I conceive the model making, with love. These authentic photos express perfectly the atmosphere which made us dream in the 80s. Personally I began in 1986 with Marui Samurai.
Wow! I really loved you video! My first RC was a porsche 959! My friend had a blackfoot and he's brother had a clodbuster. It was nice to see these cars again! Lots of emotions came back! Thanks.
I love your channel. Thanks for sharing all these cool memories of you and your RC cars. Unfortunately, I never documented any of my 80s RC moments. Keep this up!
Thank you for coming out from behind the camera and introducing us to your incredible rc history. Such an impeccable standard of build, right from the very beginning! Your early creativity is expressed not only in the composition of the photos but also in the album itself. It´s astonishing to think how, in the pre-digital age, we were building, driving and photographing rc cars (often Tamiyas) in different places and countries all over the world, having parallel experiences in isolation. I remember lying in the grass taking nearly a whole film of photos as my girlfriend jumped my Midnight Pumpkin past me, then going home with no idea whether we´d got a single useable photo...often we didn´t! I think it´s testimony to to excellence of this video that it has so far had eight views and eight "likes"...
Thanks for your great words! It was not easy, I had to force my self out, to came out from behind the camera! It's nice to hear all the good memories and stories behind our hobby all around the world!
One question - why was it that in the early days you just bought Tamiyas? I wondered whether it was because other brands were often focussed upon racing whereas Tamiya gave us cars designed to be fun rather than competitive, or whether it was the fact that Tamiya offered us such wonderful scale bodies. I certainly bought my Midnight Pumpkin all those years ago because I´d fallen in love with the body!
Del350K4 At first it was only coincidence. I went with my parents back then to a small hobby store, and the staff recommended me the Frog. So we bought them. With this, my passion for Tamiya starts. But of course, after then, I own not only Tamiya's. In the early 90es I moved in to nitro cars and own some cars from Kyosho, Graupner and others, and also electrics from Kyosho. But over all the time I saw a different in the quality in the kits from Tamiya to others. In all the years I had never a Tamiya kit with missing some parts in it, or some faults in the manual or so. With others I had many things like this. (For example: My daughter bought some time ago an SCX-10 from Axial. It was impossible to put together the front axles, because some parts are wrong in the kit. And later by assembling the gears it was another wrong explanation in the manual) Of course the detailed bodies of Tamiya cars I like very much, and its a big different to other brands, and another reason. And since I restart my rc car activities I concentrate me on Tamiya, because I have no time and effort to to everything. And without the re-releases maybe I won't move back in the hobby....
The re-releases were a stroke of marketing genius. I still get a lovely warm feeling whenever I think that I could buy my own Sand Scorcher, Brat, or any of the other cars I wanted as a teenager but couldn´t afford, right now! All I have to do is get out my debit card and I can buy the car of my dreams, sitting on my own sofa, here and now! (Actually, I´d better not think about that too much...)
I was obsessed with Tamiya in the '80s. The Hornet was my first, followed by the Lunchbox and the Thundershot, and I love them to this day. Great video! Subscribed!
Brings back so much memories !! You are lucky to have owned all the best Tamiyas at the time, the Porsche 959, the Bigwig and the Avante !!! I, myself owned a Clod Buster and a Vanquish back in the 80's and I loved those RCs
Mateo, your video was very enjoyable, very well done and you took fantastic photos with everything considering. Being a fan of Tamiya RCs this brings back many happy memories. Thank you!
Wow that was an excellent look back on the rc's. Even back then the pictures looked great. I have pictures of boomerang and v lunchbox from that era, I really must find them. Thanks again for sharing your rc history
Wow a special treat to share this with you. Thank you for taking the time. You have had some lovely cars and looks like a lot of fun with RC, glad you have found your way back to RC. Was also nice to see how much passion you had to keep this log and take the pictures - skill and passion RC have brought back to you now. Once again thank you, always a pleasure to watch your videos.
Many thanks for this so lovely back in time moment, Matteo ! My preferred photo : your garage exposed in stairs... vintage and taste together ! Keep preciously you (and our) passion and thanks again to share it !
Hi Matteo That was great! A trip down memory lane for me. I had a simillar collection during the 80s and like you gave them away over the years. It's great Tamiya have re-released many again for us. My collection is growing again.....
Thanks Matteo, nice video and photos, no digital cameras back then! Ah the memories. Love the Williams F1 car. My first proper RC was a Madcap that I picked up second hand in a swap for a Commodore 64 disk drive and joy stick! Later on I had a TL01 Calsonic Skyline R33. I don't have those anymore but currently have a TA05 Mobil1 SC430 and F104W Lotus 102B which I used to race.
Loved this video! I had a blackfoot as my first RC, probably around '92 when I was really young, 24 years later and I still have an RC collection, used to race 1/10 TC at a high level but I just 'bash' now, always wanted a Clodbuster but couldn't afford one at the time, I might treat myself for old times sake now they have re-released the kit. Your video brought back lots of great memories for me, so thank you!
Thanks for sharing your great collection of photos. It reminds me of my early years in RC as well, and of how things have changed so much since then. Keep up the good work. Paul
Amazing look back Matteo!! I enjoyed it and was very entertain ed! Except for the Porsche 959, I had all of those in da 80's. It was a great, simpler time, that unfortunately is gone forever. I think that's why people like us enjoy those Tamiya earlier vehicles so much. They were a big part of happier days!
Matteo, thanks for ALL the GREAT rc videos!! Brought back many memories from when I was a kid. Purchased my first RC car back in the mid 80's. It was also the Tamiya Frog.
Viel Spass beim Zusammenbau! Vielen Dank auch fürs schöne Lob! 👍😊
I remember going to the local hobby store in 1985 and drooling over the Bruiser. Now I have a huge Tamiya collection and a Blazing Blazer signed by Mr Tamiya.
Excellent video! Thanks for the throwback! My first car was the Grasshopper and that’s when I caught the bug. Started in 1984 and haven’t stopped yet. With the re releases I’ve been able to restore my favorites, The Fox, Frog, Bigwig and my Monsterbeetle. You are absolutely right it was a different time back then. I’m not into the RTRs as anyone can open up a box and start driving but it takes passion to build, like I’ve always said...”if I can’t build it” I’m not getting it! Cheers my friend
My first RC was in 1988 from Kyosho. It was the Ultima buggy. Then in 1993 I got the Tamiya Manta Ray and in 1994 I got a Clod Buster. In 2004 came again to the hobby and bought the new release back then Avante Black edition. Now came back for the third time with my son and I brought the 2008 Manta Ray classic release. Just now I knew that the original release date of the Manta Ray is same my birthday:) Great history video keep it up
That's exactly the year I got my first RC car which was Marui Big Bear in 1984 April 8th then I got Marui Sumurai and love all your videos and keep them coming.
Thank you for sharing ....the nostalgic..... years of childhood with more screwdrivers and less keyboards..Actually October of 2014 was my 30 years rc universary and steel active...
Great video, loving all of the ones you make, brings back so many memories, ive been around RC for around 30 years myself now too. I remember my first car, The Fox, lots of fun, and many breakages with that one too, I remember once i repaired it and then proceeded to break the chassis on the same day haha.
Great stuff, you run one of my favorite RC channels, and this look into your own personal history with the hobby was very cool, and thanks for sharing.
So many great pictures, I loved my Porsche 959 and my Wild One but sadly no photos, luckily I still have both cars and they are fully restored along with the period running gear. You look like you had a lot of fun with your cars, great pics and really enjoyable film.
+onkouth Thanks so much for your nice comment! Good you have still the originals from back then, I have only the pictures! But I enjoy the fun now with the re-releases!
REALLY AMAZING! Thank you so much for sharing your RC past. Awesome photos for back in the day! I always look forward to your latest films. Keep up the great work! Asplenia.
This is very nice, thank you for sharing your story and great Pictures from the past. I bought my first rc-car in 1988 but still have no Tamiya. Maybe it's about time...
The pictures brought back some memories from a while ago. I'm sure I still have a burn mark somewhere from those old mechanical speed control heat sync's haha
Thank you so much for sharing! I can really relate to this, I had so much fun growing up with Tamiya RC cars! And we drove them EVERYWHERE ANYTIME! I also built a lot of cars for friends and neighbors :-) I have some photos, just wish I had more...
Thank you for sharing. That was really fun to see the old pictures and hear your story. I got my first Tamiya rc car in 1987 and it was a Fox. I still have it today.
***** Yes My wife bought me a Nova fox for Christmas last year. It is still unbuilt in the box but I think I will build it soon and set it next to my original.
Enjoyed watching! incredible to see how much passion you and your friend have for Tamiya. They must invite you to there party. You deserve that for sure. Keep up your good work.
definitiv! Mein erster bausatz war der Tamiya Michelin Pilot Escort mit TA02 Chassis. Hatte ich 1994 zu weihnachten bekommen. Dann nahm es seinen lauf...
Thanks for the nostalgia. I raced a Hornet for years until I got a Thunder Dragon. Some years after that I had a Manta Ray. I still love the classic Tamiya RC cars.
I think you were very lucky with the time period you enjoyed cars, 1986 was the vintage year for the best cars and you had several of them, Porsche 959, clod and bigwig!, 3 of the best, i can see that you drove them hard as well!, i never seen a monster beetle so high in the air!!. Excellent video. 10/10.
neontetra1000 Thank you so much for your good words! Yes, these were the golden years of RC things (Technigold motor), now I am happy that Tamiya bring several models of these years back to us!
this video reminds me of my rc life which started in 1994.i remember when a 1700mah ni-cad SCRC battery was like a perfect battery for racing and plenty of duration for bashing!i remember buying my first upgrade Ko propo cx-7 esc and trinity 10x3 modified brushed motor.i was not sleeping because of the excitement i had!!i was running my traxxaa rad2 in the street and cars stopped and ask me all the time.good times.this video is so nostalgic and a bit sad for me because life was simpler back then at least for us rc friends.thank you for reading and keep rc where it belongs,in our hearts with so many memories.

Hi Matteo
That was great! A trip down memory lane for me. I had a simillar collection during the 80s and like you gave them away over the years. It's great Tamiya have re-released many again for us. My collection is growing again.....
Daniel Smith Thanks a lot for your nice comment! Yes, the re-releases bring me back too!
Matteo, always a pleasure to see your videos on youtube!
Lorenzo Misani Thank you, glad you like it!
Thanks for sharing, great pics and sound you had a great time!
Thanks Jesse!
Thank you so much for your nice feedback! Always a pleasure to hear from other rc enthusiasts!
+GTiR23 Many thanks for your nice comment! Glad you liked it and brought back good memories to you!
Thanks for sharing your great collection of photos. It reminds me of my early years in RC as well, and of how things have changed so much since then. Keep up the good work. Paul
Thanks Paul, glad to hear that! Yes, the changes in some things are big, not only good but over all better, I think.
I agree 100%, It was good times back then. Nice to hear, my video brought back good memories to you!
Matteo, thanks for ALL the GREAT rc videos!! Brought back many memories from when I was a kid. Purchased my first RC car back in the mid 80's. It was also the Tamiya Frog.
JDMbyBlood Great, we are brothers in time! Nice you like my videos and thanks for your good comment!
Great trip down memory lane! The Frog was also my first hobby grade RC vehicle.
Thanks again! Was good times, back then... 👍😊
What an amazing document of your history in RC. Great work sir!
8imthatguy8 Thank you, it means alot for me to hear this from you!
Viel Spass beim Zusammenbau! Vielen Dank auch fürs schöne Lob! 👍😊
Thanks for sharing! Some great RC's have grown over the years!
Thank you, yes it's a long history!
Wow! That was cool. Totally different time. Those pictures are amazing!
Many Thanks Austin! 🙏😊
I remember going to the local hobby store in 1985 and drooling over the Bruiser. Now I have a huge Tamiya collection and a Blazing Blazer signed by Mr Tamiya.
WOW! A Blazer, signed by Mr. Tamiya! What a great honor! You are a lucky man! 👍👍😊
Thanks so much for your excellent feedback! 🙏👍I see you are an old rc enthusiast too!
That was so cool to see these rc's from the 80's...
Thanks! Glad you like it!
Great vintage archive collection. Early years of Tamiya was the best.
***** That's true, had good times back then!
Thank you for sharing your amazing story:-)
My first RC was in 1988 from Kyosho. It was the Ultima buggy. Then in 1993 I got the Tamiya Manta Ray and in 1994 I got a Clod Buster. In 2004 came again to the hobby and bought the new release back then Avante Black edition. Now came back for the third time with my son and I brought the 2008 Manta Ray classic release. Just now I knew that the original release date of the Manta Ray is same my birthday:)
Great history video keep it up
Thank you for sharing your RC story with me! Nice that you have always found your way back to the hobby! 👍👍😊😊
My child in one video ....thanks so much ,i am now going to find so 80's rc cars
Good times back then... 👍😊
That's exactly the year I got my first RC car which was Marui Big Bear in 1984 April 8th then I got Marui Sumurai and love all your videos and keep them coming.
+Ishtiaq Ahmed Nice, bring back good memories! Thanks for your comment!

Thanks for your wonderful feedback! 😊 I'm very pleased to hear this!
Wow! a great timeline here. Amazing history, thank you for sharing :)
Thanks Markus! 😊👍

This is very nice, thank you for sharing your story and great Pictures from the past. I bought my first rc-car in 1988 but still have no Tamiya. Maybe it's about time...
+Georgieframe Thanks for your nice comment! It's definitely time... :-)
Matteo, you are a very creative person. Your documents are gorgeous
+Iwan Kurniawan Thank you so much! Very nice comment!
Tamiya Falcon was my first car in the 80s and like you Matteo, I stopped RC'ing for a while but then got back into it.
Thanks! Glad to be back in the hobby! 👍😊
The pictures brought back some memories from a while ago. I'm sure I still have a burn mark somewhere from those old mechanical speed control
heat sync's haha
+RJO998165 Hahah! Nice! Thanks!
Thanks for that look into your history. Very cool
Thanks for your nice feedback Robert! 🙏☺️
Thank you so much for sharing! I can really relate to this, I had so much fun growing up with Tamiya RC cars! And we drove them EVERYWHERE ANYTIME! I also built a lot of cars for friends and neighbors :-) I have some photos, just wish I had more...
Thank you! This was the golden era of RC cars! 👍👍😊
Thank you for sharing. That was really fun to see the old pictures and hear your story. I got my first Tamiya rc car in 1987 and it was a Fox. I still have it today.
Thank you! Oh yes the Fox, was one of my favorites too (with his gold platted wheels!), but never own one! I have to think about the Nova Fox!
***** Yes My wife bought me a Nova fox for Christmas last year. It is still unbuilt in the box but I think I will build it soon and set it next to my original.
Was für eine schöne bewegende lebendige Geschichte. Einfach Toll!
Vielen Dank!
Special eighties.Very nice video nostalgia. You make me remember when I bought my first tamiya RC in 1980 the XR311. Ciao

Ein geniales Video! Erinnerungen werden wach. Danke!
deltorro82 Vielen Dank, freut mich das mein Video Erinnerungen weckt!
definitiv! Mein erster bausatz war der Tamiya Michelin Pilot Escort mit TA02 Chassis. Hatte ich 1994 zu weihnachten bekommen. Dann nahm es seinen lauf...
Beautiful machine looks real 1:1 scale. I loved the angle from the side of rear when it drifts on gravel.
Thanks! But sure you want to comment on one of my other videos... 😃😃
It is really nice to have such an album about RC hobby!! I started the hobby in 1989 but don't have any pictures of my cars.. what a shame.
Thanks Pang! Yes, these are nice memories... 😊😊

Yes it was! Thanks Chris! 👍😊
