I have 3 of the 4 trimmers you showed, and I also have the new Stamping Up one. I use my new SU one for card making, mainly because I can cut to 6” without opening the arm. I use my CM for scrapbooking almost exclusively. I love the blades, the self healing gray strip, the housing for the blade and I think for longer cuts (12”), it’s more accurate in cutting straight. I was also taught a long time ago to push up with a cutting blade if I’m using the ledge at the top of my trimmer to keep my paper square. The SU blade, especially, slides more cleanly, and I’m more likely to cut my paper straight. I had quit using my Fiskars trimmer until I got into making mini albums. Now I use it exclusively for cutting chipboard. One nice thing about the SU trimmer is that it’s the same trimmer as one sold by a couple of other companies, such as Dress My Crafts, so I’ve been able to buy the replacement blades online. Also, in the SU trimmer, both the cutting and scoring blades stay on the track together. You don’t have to remove the scoring blade when you are cutting. Each will just move up or down, out of the way. I love that when I’m making cards!
I have had the Creative Memories trimmer for several years now. It is hands down the best in my opinion. I love the decorative blades, it also just functions well as a basic trimmer, the blades last a long time. Stampin Up is a good solid trimmer, but if were not into the decorative blades that Creative Memories has than I think the Tim Holtz would be better.
Julie, I love my CM trimmer, I spent a few years with my old CM one looking at the fiskars that CTMH used as well as other trimmers but it wasn't until CM brought out this one that I finally decided that I could justify updating as money has always been an issue with my decisions. It took me a while to adjust to my new trimmer but there is a site on youtube by CM explaining how to use them correctly. The only thing I really don't like it for is the width of the trimmer as being a card maker it would have been much nicer if it had been at least 6 inches wide. I think I have owned it now for at least 4 years & still haven't had to replace my blade. I am on my second self healing strip. I also love the choice of the other cutting blades & this month they have bought out a new cutting blade that I would like to purchase to add to the few that I already own. Overall, yes I am very happy with my choice of purchase as the replacement blades & strips are not expensive to purchase. Actually, I recently discovered that I had been given a friskars trimmer which I had never unboxed, basically because I didn't look at it properly at the time I was gifted it, assuming it was just a cheap trimmer due to the person who gifted it & so I have now passed it along to my granddaughter assuring her that it isn't a cheap one at all & that she can purchase new blades. 🤣 PS. I never chucked out my wavy trimmers from CM either & a few months ago saw a lady use it to make a unique edging on her page that I loved.
I find that a paper trimmer is such an important investment. I used the Fiskars only because it was available to me but when blades were hard to find I started to shop around. I’m not sure if I’ll get the new SU one but for now I have plenty to work with.
@@JulieCarriere_TheScrapZone And now today CTMH is offering a trimmer!! As long as you bought yourself at least a dozen or more extra blades, it might be worth trying out as it seems cheap enough. It is a shame they took so long to introduce it!!
Wow, I’ve my Creative memories trimmer for over 8yrs and I never knew about the little foot on the extendable arm. So pleased I watched this. I have also never had to buy a new straight cutting blade in that time but have gone through a few replacement strips where the trimmer cuts. Also didn’t know about the little guides on the trimmer also.
I’m exactly the same. I have loved mine for 8 years and didn’t know about the foot on the extender, or the little guides. I keep forgetting about the blades underneath. I’m also still on the same blade it came with, and I scrap all the time. 😮
I had no clue about those guides either. I need to look at my CM trimmer and see if they are actually in there. I've had it since it came out but I use my Fiskars surecut way more.
I own the Fiskars trimmer on the left and love it. Unfortunately, I just discovered the blades are discontinued. Now I’m in market to buy a new trimmer. Uggh!
Hi Julie! Eight months later, I'm just discovering your channel! First of all, I'm gutted about CTMH. But I'm glad you are shouting out SU and CM! I need to ask you where you got your project boxes behind you in this video. It's the milky white ones with black lettering on them, such as "PROJECTS Completed," vertically. I will continue to watch all your vids, you are so talented!!
Great comparison, Julie! I have several trimmers also and got the Creative Memories last year. Still getting used to it, but overall it has been very easy to use. Thanks for sharing information. Each has its own good features❤❤❤
I have a Friskers paper cutter and I like it though I wish it had CM. I like the Creative Memories paper trimmer if I ever decide to replace my Friskers it would be one that I would consider buying. I like the different edges. Easier than using scissors
I have the fiskars and I love it but I’ve been wanting to creative memories trimmer because of the extra features I just wish it had a 6” base. Btw, I’d love to see a new craftroom tour❤
Thanks for all the info on the CM trimmer. I have had it since release and I didn't know about some of those features. I do want to add that the CM trimmer does not cut thick cardstock well - like bazzill which is my go to for scrapbooking...it leaves some frayed edges. Light cardstock is fine though. I know you didn't review it but the WRMK tool the works or trim and score trimers are great for cutting 1/8" easily...line all the way top to bottom for easy measuring. I use that trimmer most of the time when I am making mats.
Great review! I find it strange that the Tim Holtz guillotine trimmers have the 1/8” markings but this trimmer does not. I use eighth inch measurements a lot. I’m quite interested in the Creative Memories trimmer. It looks very sturdy and I like how the measurements on the extension line up with the body. I do like my Fiskars trimmer but I have the one with the guide wire, which doesn’t seem as tight as it used to be, and the cost of replacement blades is getting pretty expensive. Thanks for this Julie!
Fantastic review. Thanks so much. I love my Creative Memories trimmer but you do make some interesting points about the features of other trimmers on the market. So glad I subscribed to your channel. I'm enjoying your videos.
The Rail Trimmer is the best! Thankfully I have a case of original blades/scoring tool. Tim Holtz...eh. one use with glitter paper filled up the channel. The NEW CTMH Trimmer is exactly as the new SU, so I got it.
Love the guides on my CM trimmer. Just new, gifted to me 3 weeks ago. Great for my older eyes. Scoring perforating blades can be used to lmark journalling lines.
I have the fiskers one you show hear, but read somewhere that they are going to discontinue it. I already have a hard time finding blades for it. I just purchased their new rotary blade one. And they warranty their cutters and most products.
The newer SU trimmer has metric and inches to measure and the extended arm seems to be very stable. I craft a lot and the blades last a long time, too. In addition, there is a scoring blade included right in the track area.
Thank you very much, very good reviews. May I ask what model the Creative Memories might be please? I'm a bit vision impaired, so if you have it in the comments, I apologize. Thanks again. Sincerely... Gerald OBrien...Houston, Texas
I have and really like the Fiskars Aluminum Cut Rail trimmer but unfortunately they have discontinued that model which is why it is hard to find the blades. When my stash of blades is used up, I will need to find a new trimmer and you have reviewed some good options--thanks for the comparison video!
I use a SU trimmer and my edges are always frayed. I've tried different brands of cardstock, different paper weights, I change blades every couple of weeks.
Stampin’ Up! by far the best. The older trimmer was great but their blades went dull quickly. The newer model is awesome. Ruler on the right side of the trimmer is 1 1/2”. The bumper on the folded trimmer is 6”. The blades last months!
@@jeanetteconway2366 I had the old one, when they retired it (because factory flaws) I bought the new one. Different as night and day. My first trimmer was Fiskar’s, blades dulled quickly.
On the Tim Holtz trimmer, if you use the clear rail edge on the right of the blade rail you get the 1/8th cut. Great method to use when you place your photo on a piece of scrap cardstock you can easily cut around your photo and you don’t need a straight edge to start with.
Great review! I am unable to find the Creative Trimmer - no longer available on Amazon. Do you know where it can be purchased besides Ebay? Thanks so much for your review!
I have the old su trimmer it is my favorite right now I like that you can score and cut at the same time however, I will not be investing in the new one since they got rid of all the great features I do like the Tim Holtz trimmer you showed as my eyesight is getting worse. Those little things are markers are becoming more and more important however am very impressed with the memory keepers except you can’t score. You have to change the blades for me. Not sure if that’s a dealbreaker, I had an old Fisker my husband uses for his hobby❤❤❤ thank you for sharing
I'm confused about what features you say they got rid of. I have the new one and didn't notice any features missing. You can still cut and score at the same time. The only thing really different is the blade style and they got rid of the storage on the back. I never used that, so it wasn't a deal breaker for me. Was that what you meant? I do find that the blade needs replaced quite often but gives crisp cuts when it is new.
Thanks for the great review. The only thing I would note is that when purchasing the Creative Memories trimmer through Amazon, only the straight blade is included. Just for the sake of transparency, was the trimmer gifted to you from the company? It looks like a great trimmer, and I think I will put it on my wish list and buy extra blades a couple at a time.
Wish you would have reviewed 'we r memory keepers ' cutter and score board that opens to a full 12.5 " x 12.5" board. To score, the board has score groves so you use a bone folder (included). I use my stylist to score on this board. I work with 12 x 12 paper. I started using it >18 months ago, and it has become my go to trimmer. Check it out.
I love the SU! trimmer, I have the new one. I am disappointed though as they took away the back storage for the blades. They also took away the lock feature and the arm extends but no feet so it's floating in the air. It's still my fav! The blades last longer than the previous version you showed. Great review!
Hello, Thank you for your thoughtful review! New sub. I am wondering if you know a cm consultant in Alberta Canada 🇨🇦 and also curious how many sheets of paper can be cut with the Tim holtz and cm trimmers. I have a trimmer that is on its way out 😢 thank you 😊 💕🇨🇦
Welcome to my crafty channel. If you go on their website and add your postal code it will give you options of Advisors in your area. With most trimmer you can cut two sheets but I always cut one at a time. You get a cleaner ease that way. 😊
@@JulieCarriere_TheScrapZoneyou can cut up to 5 sheets of paper on the CM trimmer. But like you I cut one sheet at a time. Card stock you should only do one sheet at a time.
When I first started stamping, decades ago, I was given a trimmer that had an option of a blade that could cut a wavy line. I loved it!! I thought I purchased one that would replace it but the wave wasn’t as large as the first one. I can’t find one that has that option. Do you have any idea where I could find one?
Totally agree. The blades doesn‘t last long and I do only cut Stampin Up regular cardstock and DSP, neither other brands nor the SU speciality papers (glimmer, glitter, foil). Love my guiollotine trimmer most - and my very old Dreamkuts❤
For a workhorse cutter you cannot beat the the UK British Rotatrim its called Rotatrim pro 12 and blade never need changing they self sharpening it will do everything apart from when you get to the last 1 inch strip it cannot hold it .The American crafters and industry LOVE the Rota trim the size suitable for cardmakers scrapbookers is called a different name for the American market anyone want a cutter for life invest in this one it will cut largere sheets than 12 x 12 ,great for prep work workshop cutting card bases loads of different sized layouts and layer panels and card sizes things superb investment. Now the best cutter for a Portable wise size portable has to be the Creative Memories in my personal opinion. Just bought mine 2 months it does super cuts very safe strong and thiose stotage blades excellent and a easy replaceable cutting strip. i bought because i was sick of all my other portables cutters trimmers i owned ,which really are rubbish ,fiskars blades wear out ,Stampin Up I HATE IT ,i t is just as bad a the first style you have demo and used.I cut my finger really deep when i had to change the cutting blade .It really is a Dangerous cutter when changing blades not good for anyone with visually sight impairment the CM the best and safe for sight impaired The SU .It also has a very annoying lift plastic arm you have to hold it low down to open the arm up up a stiff operation if not done correctly .Stampin Up cutter s made by one company which mass produces similar portables with the other cutters which are exact in style shape and function These are Hunkdory purple , Vessen creative white ,new CTMH which is same as rest only different colour . dont like the tonic dont rate the cutterpillar pro neither . so for me the best investment which is a well designed very safe Portable by Creative memories well worth purchasing for general crafters.
Thank you so much for your sharing your experiences with me. Since I need to cut smaller pieces, like 1/8” I need a good portable trimmer. I don’t have the desk space for the larger rotary ones. I do like my guillotine cutter, my eyes are not as good as they once were. That’s just a fact of life. Thank you again.
I also hate the SU cutter. Never got a very crisp cut. Blade would wear out quickly. The final end for me was when I changed the blade, yet again, and I was still getting bad fraying. I changed the blade again with the same effect. I looked at the 'self-healing strip' that creates the cutting trough. It was filled with minute particles of paper. I cleaned it. I still got the same fraying but not as bad. I replaced the cutting strip. Still had fraying... in the trash it went!
Thank you for the review with the trimmers. Nicely done. I will point out that Fiskars is not pronounced with an “r”. I only say this as I recently found this out too. Like you, I said Friskars. I wonder how many people pronounce it this way?
ahah, I just realized that too after filming this video. It's funny what you hear and then you take a minute a look at the written word and wonder what the heck was I saying!
I have a different Friskers cutter and can still find blades for it, but I haven't seen the rail blades for a while. A friend has the rail one and she asked me to look for them where I live and if I found any to bring it to her when I visit her next. Unfortunately haven't found any here. I don't even think that Amazon has them anymore.
CTMH is closing June 30 2024 so if you get their trimmer stock up on blades and strips. Stampin up is buying some of their line. Hope they take over CTMH trimmer it’s much better. SU trimmer does not make clean cuts and the rail moves a bit
I hated the Tim Holtz cutter you reviewed (although I love the guillotine version) and donated mine. It takes up a lot of space (it's very long), and after a week, the blade kept falling off, and I would have to press down firmly to cut all the way through the paper. For the price, I don't recommend it.
I recently bought the new sizzix multi tool trimmer and score board. Please do not waste your money. I thought I got a used trimmer with a dull blade and reached out to the company for a replacement blade. I did not hear back from them. I bought a new blade and it is just as dull. I guess that's why sizzix didn't bother helping me. They know the problem is with their product and not that I was given a used trimmer. The board is a good idea. If it was made with quality materials it would be the best on the market.
I wanted to show as many as possible since people often get them second hand. I still feel the review was helpful. Plus the difference between the old and new SU is not that significant.
The CM "self-healing strip" can also be turned over for two more cutting strips.
Yes, I must have edited that out by mistake.
Love Love my CM paper trimmer!! It is a must have!

Are the blades on the CM sold separately?
Yes they are 😊
Hello,
Thank you for your thoughtful review!
@@JulieCarriere_TheScrapZone Thank you for your suggestion. 😊
@@JulieCarriere_TheScrapZoneyou can cut up to 5 sheets of paper on the CM trimmer. But like you I cut one sheet at a time.
Card stock you should only do one sheet at a time.
so, where can I purchase the one with the different blades
I would recommend looking for a local CM Advisor through the Creative Memories website.
When I first started stamping, decades ago, I was given a trimmer that had an option of a blade that could cut a wavy line. I loved it!! I thought I purchased one that would replace it but the wave wasn’t as large as the first one. I can’t find one that has that option. Do you have any idea where I could find one?
I see the Creative Memories has a scalloped. Hopefully this is still for sale. I might like to try it.
Do you recall the brand of trimmer you have ?
I find the Stampin Up trimmer (new one) the blades don't last long! They go dull quickly like the older trimmer. The blades are expensive as well.
Thank you for letting me know. Blades can get expensive 😐
Totally agree. The blades doesn‘t last long and I do only cut Stampin Up regular cardstock and DSP, neither other brands nor the SU speciality papers (glimmer, glitter, foil). Love my guiollotine trimmer most - and my very old Dreamkuts❤
I just watched, & enjoyed, ur video & would like to try the Creative Memories trimmer. Where can I buy 1?
Where are you from Canada or the USA?
Can any of these be used to trim photos?
Yes but I prefer a guillotine trimmer, you get a cleaner cut.
How easy is it to get replacement blades? I have the Fiskars and am having a hard time getting blades.
So thing here, this is why I’m moving on to other trimmers. 😐
CTMH said that Fiskars no longer make the cut rail trimmer which is why you can’t find blades.
That was my experience too. Good to know about the new CTMH trimmer. I was too late on the purchase. 😐
Don't push down when using stampin up one. Very smooth cut then. Pushing down can cause fraying and harder to move the blade
Oh thanks I'll try that
I hated the Tim Holtz cutter you reviewed (although I love the guillotine version) and donated mine. It takes up a lot of space (it's very long), and after a week, the blade kept falling off, and I would have to press down firmly to cut all the way through the paper. For the price, I don't recommend it.
Finding the right trimmer is always a quest for me too. Sorry that trimmer was not right for you, hope you find the right one.
Thank you for the heads up, much appreciated
Love Batman behind your right side!
It’s a special Batman from my late brother’s collection. It means a lot to me. 🥰
This is a nice video, but fyi the Creative Memory is a rotary trimmer.
Thank you for letting me know, as I mentioned this one is completely new to me
Lol, to bad you didn't have the new ctmh trimmer
So many trimmers so little $$$
Spellbinders trimmer is a clone of the current SU trimmer. Reviewing a discontinued item isn’t probably helpful.
I wanted to show as many as possible since people often get them second hand. I still feel the review was helpful. Plus the difference between the old and new SU is not that significant.
