hi Nick, I was born in Bandung and currently live in Markham (north of Toronto), Canada. I moved to Canada to take architecture at U of Waterloo in 1973, worked in Toronto and retired 3 years ago. I'm impressed with the way you travel. good luck and have fun in Indonesia.
14:00 Hi Nick, the guy actually asked you about your place of origin, He said "Dari Amrik?" Amrik is Indonesian slang-word for America. So "Dari Amrik?" means literally "Are you from America?" something like that. 'Amrik' was quite common slang word to refer America back in 1980s and 1990s. Now, I do believe most people use either Amerika or just US. Amrik sounds ancient at least to me and my inner circle.
This is why I subscribed to you Nick, Just strolling around the street, don't know what u are going to find, some are good, some are bad but that's exactly what makes me stay on this channel. Keep it up Nick! And stay healthy.
Indeed, Pasar Baru is a famous area for clothings, garments, and textiles. Before pandemic, many tourists came from Malaysia to visit Pasar Baru because there are so many varieties and the price is quite cheap too. The reason is because there are many textiles factory around Bandung. If you're still living there, you might be interested to visit Kopi Aroma at Jalan Banceuy, an old traditional coffee roastery. Only 5 mins walk from Pasar Baru. The surrounding area is also known as Bandung's Chinatown, because of its Chinese-style shophouses, religious places, and non-halal culinary centers. Fun fact: There is also a Pasar Baru in Jakarta, famous for selling textiles and garments too. The difference is in Jakarta, the sellers are mainly Indian descents, while in Bandung, they are locals.
Saya sebagai warga +62 kaget juga masih banyak orang yang jujur seperti yang Nick temukan di Bandung ini. Mantap Nick. Semangat terus bikin vlog raw nya.
14:03 He said "Amrik," which is how Indonesians refer to Americans; it's short for Amerika. Indonesians love to shorten everything to make it sound "simpler," such as Batagor, which is short for Baso Tahu Goreng (Fried Meatball Tofu), and what you had in that is cendol Elizabeth, one famous cendol brand in Bandung, it's a sweet dessert made of rice flour coloured with pandan/suji leaf, with coconut milk and brown sugar, in some variant they might add durian or jackfruit. Oh yeah one thing, if your stomach not used to santan (coconut milk) you probably gonna have some "problem", like mild diarrhea or any digestive related problems, just be careful. In this video, you're in an area called "Pasar Baru," which is actually Bandung's major/central market, which explains why there are so many activities and street food vendors during the day. In the past, this area was known for its textile industry, which is why there are so many cloth/fabric vendors in that area, because Bandung was known as Indonesia's fashion district, but now this area has been transformed into a more modern market with a wide range of vendors. 24:00 Cotton candy = gulali/permen kapas permen = candy kapas = cotton

The next interesting place you can visit Lembang Bandung, there are many interesting tourist attractions. About food, Bandung is heaven, lots of delicious food there.
14:38 it's called Cendol, it's made from Pandan leaves, thats why it's green. The consistency is like bubble tea, traditional javanese or sundanese drink. And the brown syrup is brown sugar syrup. The white liquid is coconut milk.
That green thing inside the Es Cendol is some pudding drops made from rice flour and pandan leaf extract. Poci Iced tea means regular jasmine Iced Tea, "Poci" is the brand that also means "teapot" in Indonesian language. Indonesian term for cotton candy is "gula kapas" or "harum manis". Hi Nick. Unlike in supermarket which usually per 100 gram or pieces, street fruit seller sell the fruits in kg (Remember in kg not gram). So ask how much the fruit in kg first. Then you can buy just half (setengah) or quarter (seperempat) even one ounce (satu ons). If you buy per pieces it will be more expensive. Except for bigger fruit like watermelon u have to buy one not in kg.
