    Riding with feet that are cramping up, moving around too much inside the liner, or 'bottoming out' to the point that I get bruised heels, SUCKS! With this combo I've ridden up to 36 days consecutively, and not had any of the issues I've had all the years prior. I hope they help you too, and please come back and leave your reviews on them when you find they solve the same issues. fp-insoles.com?sca_ref=4476525.wmmR8GbbYb www.donek.com/product/deeluxe-heel-harness-pro/

    Ryan, I just wanted to write - your videos that you shot 3-5 years ago, where you taught people how to carve, they really helped me learn how to do it well. And it was helpful not only for me - I study websites about carving, read the comments under the video, everyone knows you, in the UK, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, Japan and Korea. What you have done is taught and inspired people, made them happier! I really expect that you will have circumstances again so that you shoot videos more often. I'm sure there are thousands of people waiting. I wish you inspiration and good empty slopes!

      "It all depends on your feet" indeed. Not everyone needs custom orthotics, but if you do, you do.
      There's more to it than just insoles though. It's a good idea to consult a boot fitter on foot pain and a physical therapist if you've got pain elsewhere.

      I'm so thrilled that you took the time to write that. Please let me tell a story.
      I'm a "professional" foosball player. (Shit has gotten weird!). I'm practicing on the best of the best equipment, and regularly playing both with, and, against World Champions year round. (yeah, it's gotten crazy)... Practice is my happy place to have gotten to this level. I love it. I stand in front of an empty table and start whatever type of practice I'd like to experience. On a daily basis, eventually any inefficiencies present themselves... so I first go to a mental thought with my "stance" and "balance".
      The "balance" part is soooo difficult for me to find in certain shoes. But when I'm on shoes where I can think about the same balance I have while on a snowboard... it just turns to gold. Its a work in progress, but very tangible.
      Thus, guess what insoles I use in all of my shoes...., whether they be Zero shoes, Racquet ball shoes, walking shoes, running shoes, etc. (I also practice in my snowboard boots when I need to get them feeling right, and on the other side, just some sandals). Best actually seems to be barefoot when its possible. Hahhaha. It's rad and can be easy on the body.
      I'm glad I'm living in the "After" aspect you described. Every footware product I buy, I try them 'as is'... and so far it's a general feeling of: This isn't 'right". These have been giving me a great sense with finding my balance consistently. It's gotten crazy. I hope you can all relate to that in due time.

    The FP insoles have been nice - I have them underneath my stock Salomon insoles. I was just showing Josh the heel hold liner sleeve from Patriot Footbeds, but those Deeluxe ones look way more substantial. I've eventually gotta figure out something for the bruising on my rear foot, on the balls of my feet behind the pinky toe, then I'm golden 🤙.

    • @RyanKnapton
      @RyanKnapton  6 месяцев назад +1

      I'm stoked you're using em! (FP Insoles sent me a bunch of them when I chatted with them about how they've made my snowboarding much more sustainable, so I gave sets out to some riders who I know are really pushing their equipment to the max. Dave is one of them, and his riding is 🔥🔥🔥) . On the Liner sleeve from Patriot,... Man, I wanted to try them, but I was just envisioning not being able to cinch it down in the ways that the Deeluxe lacing part does. I crank mine down like really f'n tight, and those just don't have that capability.
      Anyways, Dave breaks more bindings than anyone I've ever known. Its wild. Hopefully someday that is a video in and of itself, and it's something he's solving. It's awesome.

When I switched to adidas boost I could run distance and sprints 7 days a week with minimal swelling. That's why I went with the Adidas boost snowboard boots. I forget the name of my specific model. Everyone should watch this video first - the boot connection is the most important. Footbeds with some cushioning are the best for us older riders - the plantar (thick tissue that goes across the bottom of the foot) is just not so flexible anymore, and the constant impacts can cause pain, even if not in the snowpark. Pain made me look this up. I do have a question, Ryan - at 2:57 - how are you getting that ankle bend ("Michael Jackson")? are you boots really flexible? Park boots?

    Started last season. After my second day up, I could barely walk that evening. Same boots, but different board, bindings, stance, so on. Not sure how much of a difference the laces made, but I'm definitely avoiding cinching down too hard from here on. Would help if there were a guide somewhere that could point to what symptoms might result from what conditions.

    • @SnakebitSTI
      @SnakebitSTI 5 месяцев назад +1

      It is unfortunately way too complicated to diagnose boot problems through a chart like that. That's what boot fitters are for.
      The easy guesses if you're tightening your laces too much are that the boots are too big in some dimension or too soft, but it could be something else.

    I always go to a bootfitter, and they've made custom soles and adjustments to my shoes, and finally, pain-free. Ok, first hour or so not. I usually have my shoes a bit on the tight side, have to adjust again. After that I'm fine. J-bars do the trick for my ankle so far.

      I have some old jbars... Never tried adding those into that configuration.... Hmmm. I dig the experiment.
      I wouldn't say heel lift is a problem though after adding the heel hold harness.... The next step is... My liners can bang around in the shell once they are really broken in. I've been playing around with some other liners, and I just have to continue on that quest for awhile before I'm confident with suggesting anything on that aspect. I'd like to try some Zipfit gear... So I might be spending even more soon.

    • @RyanKnapton
      @RyanKnapton  5 месяцев назад

      Depends on the conditions. When the snow is real nice, I'm usually at 88 or 87. When it's more like a skating rink than a surface that has depth, then I go with 86 and 85. Something like 85 when snow conditions are good... it can feel too aggressive. So play around with the settings per the snow you're on, and try to find what level of grip for carving, and friction for skidding you want. It's a great tool!

    My buds call snowboarding foot pain "squashy foot".
    I've always assumed the sensation of my heels lifting in my boots is poor technique, caused by just leaning on the binding straps on the toe edge, when I could (should?) actively push down through my toes. Comforting to know even the GOAT suffers from it!!

    • @rafasoaresms
      @rafasoaresms 6 месяцев назад

      It does sound like bad technique tho. I say that because I’ve recently learned to put my weight on the balls of my feet, instead of my toes, and it made a huge difference in heel lift. Also pressing my shin into the front of my boots.

    • @RyanKnapton
      @RyanKnapton  6 месяцев назад +1

      The motions you described by leaning into the binding straps is exactly the motions I'm using when carving on the toeside edge. Thus the massive importance for an interface that works in harmony with that.

    • @grimmriffer
      @grimmriffer 5 месяцев назад

      @RyanKnapton I think squashy foot comes on worse for me on harder skiddier snow, I guess as the board chatters I get the binding rapidly and repeatedly digging in to me, and I should shift technique away from trying to lay down anyway, cos the grip ain't there. When it's a nice carvy piste I don't get it, or not as much. So maybe it's just down to happiness! 😅
