    Jason is dead but that wont stop the Friday the 13th franchise. This is the chapter intended to kick off a new direction for Friday the 13th. As we all know, this plan did not go through past this installment. Is Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning a wasted chapter or does it hold some genuine entertainment?

    The funniest part about this whole movie is at the end when the guy is explaining that it was Roy. He had news paper clippings and pictures of Jason from part 4 just chillin out in the woods... It's like Who the hell ran into the woods got pictures of Jason and got out alive haha.

      That paper clip pic of Jason is the hospital camera that snapped a photo and got it recorded. No one would have survived that close to Jason.

      It's better than takes Manhattan even though I enjoy when jason punches that 50 pound boxer heads off but it's the worst 1. I enjoyed jason goes to hell especially the unrated version and end. Part 5 and 7 are tied for my 2nd least favorite. Not bad like worst hellraiser or children of the corn films

    • @Jeymez

      that's how you tell a story, since it's a fictional world with fictional characters,
      it doesn't matter if it's in the 80's or not.
      all that matters is the title name, so the fact it's called a new beginning,
      that's how they were able to advance the character of Tommy Jarvis.
      the follow up Jason Lives picks up a year after part 5.
      Part 4 is the final chapter, so that literally meant the end of Jason, atleast for
      a short while.

    Not going to lie, this probably has my favorite character in the whole franchise, Ethel. I have never heard someone call some one a dildo in a movie outside of this! She is just so crazy and over the top, yet the the actress actually does a really good job acting.

    It makes sense to me that the John Shepherd Tommy from 5 became the Thom Matthews Tommy from VI because he probably got therapy after being stopped from killing Pam at the end of 5 which is why he's calmer and more stable in Jason Lives whereas in A New Beginning he was so traumatised from Jason killing his mother and neighbours and trying to kill him and his sister that he had anger issues and lashed out randomly along with the Jason hallucinations he kept seeing everywhere because of his fear that Jason might come back to get revenge on him which Roy's copycat killing spree made worse because it briefly made Tommy believe that his fears had come true.

    • @CraigTodd924
      @CraigTodd924 Год назад +1

      I feel like it was a nice progression of the character...By part 6 Tommy was over the bs and just wanted to make sure he was dead. He still had auditory hallucinations but it felt like he had a grip on his demons and were using them as fuel to kill Jason once and for all...But not really lol.

  • @DesiSJ
    @DesiSJ 5 лет назад +10

    This is the one I typically skip for all the reasons you said regarding Tommy Jarvis. Part 4 and 6 flow together so much better. However, the Psuedo Echo song as the punk girl dies (don't remember her name) is my favorite part. As for the killer reveal, I honestly didn't even catch the guys face the first time around as being anything other than grossed out by what he had seen. Watching it the second time around, I saw that there was a connection. And the truth is, the first time I saw it, it took me a minute to even realize who the killer was.

  • @PaulRizzo
    @PaulRizzo 6 лет назад +27

    You’re waaaay more perceptive than I am Cody. The very first time I saw this I had no idea Roy was the killer. Even when they showed his face at the end I was like, who the fuck is that?!
    That’s how forgettable Roy was to me. 80 minutes later I had no idea who he was.

    • @DKdevilplayground
      @DKdevilplayground 4 месяца назад

      I had the same reaction also at the end. I thought it was Jason the whole time, but then when I saw the mask ripped off and the killers face was normal, I was like wait what?! I didn''t realize Joey's dad "the emt" was the killer until I looked it up on wikipedia.

    I personally think the title for worst Jason movie would be Jason goes to Hell... not part V

    • @Bobby14
      @Bobby14 6 лет назад +3

      Y2JBlackOutF5 part 5 doesn't even deserve hate, imao! They really nailed it by making Roy a new killer and is pretty hard to tell "man, he may be an impostor".... He has Friday the 13th part 3's feel to it, combined with parents-problems from the Original..... Yeah, the motivations were kind of dumb like WTF, WHY DID THAT BULLY KILL JOEY?! AND ROY DOESN'T EVEN BOTHER WITH HIM! The kills were pretty numeros and oldschool, and was a cool movie, even if we talk about action, main plot etc! But Part 8 Jason takes Manhattan takes the cake for me for worst Friday the 13th movie! It doesn't even try to do what it is, spends ONE HOUR on the boat, there are no landmarks that it could show us "Here's NY" and Jason looks terrible! His face is FUCKING DISGUSTING, AND NOT IN THE COOL WAY, IN THE BAD WAY, HE EVEN SPLITS WATER OR SOMETHING THAT MAKE HIM A COMPLETE GROSS FREAK! But after comes Jason goes to hell! A New Beginning is among my favourites or the ones i call originals!

    I'm so conflicted on A New Beginning. On one hand this one has some of the best kills, a much more interesting setting, and some of the most hilarious one-off characters compared to the first three. On the _other_ hand it also has some of the lamest kills, an unsatisfying reveal, and a super bizarre ending. I think I like it just a hair more than the first three so far, but not more than The Final Chapter. And I still like the first three so I guess this movie is pretty good in my book. lol

    I'm a Friday the 13 fan also nightmare on elm street fan anyway I'm glad that Jason became an icon but on other hand when I think of friday the 13 part 5 I get the direction they wanted to go because part 4 was the end of Jason and I like the idea of the new direction now not saying I don't like Jason in parts 6 or 7 I do and part 8 and up to me is not good but anyway back to what I was saying it keeps the story fresh and interesting kinda wonder what would happen if they did what they wanted to do with the series regardless of how poor it did because to me the story is important as much as other things that make series great and it sucks from the story standpoint the series went down hill after this because they did not continue with there original idea with new beginning I just wonder what would have happened to Tommy or other story's and charators that might have developed with the series if they continued in that direction but guess we will never know anyway we have what we have and no matter how bad some of the movies are or how the story just went to hell Jason is a icon hopefully someday we will have a new Friday the 13 series

    I've been waiting for this one 😎 I think this one is really good even though jason isn't in it, the characters are really entertaining and the way they take their time to kill the characters was cool. And the funny thing about Tommy is it feels like he's only on here to have recognized name from the last one because this movie focuses the least on him. the part where Pam is being chased is my favorite because it's so annoying that she won't get up but yet it's hilarious because this is typical cheesy horror film cliche where a girl is wearing a wet shirt with no bra and then falling down and won't get up, and don't forget ethal and junior..those characters are freaking hilarious 😂 and that "stew" more like dirty water with leaves in it 🤔🤔

    Can't get my nut around this film, Tommys unlikable, the guy Vic who murdered Joey actually doesn't die & yet Roy murders everybody else except Vic?
    The hillbillies are annoying as fuck & the kills been cut to shit by the MPAA & that ending makes no sense with Tommy becoming a killer because he just spent last 15 minutes helping Pam & Reggie battle Roy & in Part VI Tommy goes back to Crystal Lake to find out if Jasons really dead driving Pams truck.
    I know this has its fans but this one jumped the shark for me, as ever great review Cody, you put a lot of content into your reviews & your love for movies shines in your presentation.

    This movie gets far to much flack for no reason other than Jason not being the killer and the director being a pervy porn guy first. The kills were some of the best and it had Violet! and she is love.

    I hate that musical cue that plays constantly throughout the film. You know that taunt kids make when they have something of yours. That's what it sounds like every single time Jason.. I mean Roy, kills someone.

If not, I’ll still enjoy them separately;) and all will be “FUCKIN PEACHY” as you say lol. And btw Lee killed it in this one too. Between wwam, Lee, McRaege and you, I’m always laughing. Gotta go. Those damn anchalotas...... ooooh baby, ooooooh baby.

      I generally hate having children in a slasher film because you know they're going to be just fine, the writers wouldn't have the balls do actually do anything with them or the film wouldn't be fun anymore. They did this in 4, 5 and 6 bringing children into it who of course all survive, what a suprise. Same in other horror films like The Fog, Halloween, . Only the IT films had the audacity to actually include children in the story and not wrap them up in plot armour.

    I love the Friday The 13th franchise, Jason is my favorite slasher killer, I just finished saw this chapter and I'm not gonna trash it, yes its not a good movie, I will say that its decent, you can have fun watch it, I really don't mind that Jason its not the killer in this one and they (producers, writers, etc) tried to gave audiences something different and I respect that. Good review Cody.

    I liked this film. It can live. Normally, when all of these horror film franchises finally go to a mental institution then that's when the series received some significant new life. Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, Cult Of Chucky are two of my favorites. Yes, The New Chapter had a good amount of silliness but it was decent. I never thought Roy was the killer because in Friday The 13th films, after the original I never expected a different killer besides Jason. Sure, rewatching this one I can recognize would could be some hints but I never thought outside of Jason Voorhees as the killer. Tommy Jarvis was different but he was an adult now, and Corey Feldman was still a Goonie. It didn't bother me at all and I don't dislike the film. They still somehow ended UP in a barn but whatever. I think they learned that we need Jason back. Halloween 3 was trippy but I didn't dislike the idea really, but they learned and brought Michael Myers right back.

    This movie would have worked more as basically a spin-off franchise (which obviously Paramount would never have done) in which copycats try and mimic Jason Voorhees and go on since they “killed him off.” Jason Goes to Hell is kind of like a demonic homage to this in that it sucks and a physical embodiment of Jason is not the central antagonist. Glad they got back to the meat and bones (no pun intended) of the franchise in Jason Lives.

    I dig this movie. It isn't good by any means, but the Friday series is just good old fashioned turn your brain off fun. A bad horror flick is better than most in other genres. The only two I loathe in the series are Jason goes to hell and Jason x. Even trying to look at those as comedies is a steetch.

    The hockey mask in this film has blue markings on it instead of red ones, foreshadowing that the real killer isn't Jason at all.
    The hockey mask used during the opening title sequence is of a different style, with different markings, than the hockey mask used in parts III and IV. This is a prophetic clue to the viewer that the man behind the mask is an imposter.
    Although "Part V" appears on all promotional material, it does not appear in the actual film. The opening credits simply read: "Friday the 13th: A New Beginning."
    This is the first film in the series where Jason is actually referred to by his full name: Jason Voorhees. In Friday the 13th (1980), Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981), and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), he is only referred to as Jason, while he is not referred to by name at all in Friday the 13th Part III (1982).
    Coincidentally, Deborah Voorhees shares her real surname with Jason.

    Pam is insanely hot, but by far one of the worst final girls. When she's running from the Killer, just like in every typical slasher movie with one of its most common cliches, she trips and falls and rather getting back up and continue running, she starts crawling away

    This is like the Halloween 3 of the franchise. Apparently, this was supposed to start a string of copycat killers, but the fans complained about the lack of Jason and there we go.
    And much like Halloween 3, I actually really enjoyed this for what it was and was interested in seeing where the franchise would go. In fact, it looked like they had intended on making Tommy the killer in the next installment in the end there.

    I’m a newbie to this series. Not a newbie to horror, but for some reason I decided to start this franchise last week. I’m sort of in the middle to meh on this one. I didn’t mind the mystery aspect, but I guess I’m used to having “final” people like Nancy or Laurie, and this final girl didn’t do it for me. I wasn’t a fan of how Tommy was written. I would’ve liked seeing DebiSue Voorhees more (not necessarily in the way you’re probably thinking ;) )You have someone named Voorhees in your movie and kill her off that fast?! I just couldn’t get attached to anyone in this one. I give this movie 1.5 PopLock dance moves out of 5.

      1981mag yeah Pam is the only final girl to wear a wet white shirt, but then again Trish from 4 showed her legs and underwear as it was raining, and it's funny because Pam always reminded me of her, maybe that's why they casted her, to remind Tommy of her 🤔
