  • Come join us for a full #tour of #Luxor on the #Las #Vegas #Strip! This was filmed in August 2020! Recently there have been rumors about the possible closure and #demolition of this property! milestomemorie...
    While I don't necessarily think the rumors are 100% true, this hotel does struggle so I thought it was worth touring to show you why it's a true icon. From an iconic building to incredible theming, Luxor might just surprise you! I know by the end you'll have seen something at Luxor that you've never seen before! Also stick around for the section in the hotel stairs! As you might expect they can't go straight up and down, but you'll have to watch to find out how cool that area is! And yes we'll ride the sideways elevators too!

    I really like the themed resorts from the 90s, where every building is unique. Now all the places look like a fancy high rise from any major city in the world, Vegas has lost a bit of its uniqueness; need to bring back some neon lights again. Loved Luxor as a kid, they had a great arcade back then.

    • @Milestomemories
      @Milestomemories  4 года назад +2

      I agree! I understand the move towards more modern generic properties, but I don think there is room for theming in casinos. I wouldn't be surprised if coming out of this whole situation that Vegas finds a whole different way to reinvent itself. Maybe themed casinos will make a comeback!

      @dkpqzm 4 года назад +3

      I really liked the "old" casinos of the 70s. Top music, comedy and burlesque shows. It was elegant and classy back then, people actually got dressed up when they went out and the strip was wide open and free to speed down past all the limo's with the top down. Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Jerry Lewis, Dianna Ross every big name in entertainment on the marquis.

    I have stayed at Luxor many times and when I can get back there will stay at Luxor again. Even when I was there for a conference off strip, I made my way to the Aurora bar for some drinks. Whatever structural problems the pyramid has can be fixed, please don't tear this icon down!

    I love the Luxor. My very 1st trip to Vegas was in 1992. My friends and I stayed at a run down hotel called “the hacienda”, right next door to the Luxor that was almost completed. While we were there they were painting the sphinxs famous headdress. Little did I know that the hacienda was about to be torn down and be replaced by Mandalay Bay.. Great memories.

    I agree with you, the Luxor is one of the few LV properties where the allure of seeing/touching its (still impressive) structural engineering is a driving force for visitation. Your view up the side really was impressive and reminds me of what I always did when I lived in New York in the 80s, which was to pause at the corner of the World Trade Center tower where it met the sidewalk. . . and look up. They say that tags you as "a tourist" but that was nonsense: I never ever tired of that view. Glad I found your channel. I am enjoying these tours. Thank you!

    Thanks for the tour! It has been 14 years since I was last there, but my brother and I stayed in Las Vegas for eight nights, and we walked everywhere, except downtown. The Luxor is a unique property, in fact, it is a landmark. I worked for a large steel fabricator, and although we did not do this building, I can really appreciate the design of the building. Thank you for taking a trip into the stairwell. The pyramid design was no doubt expensive to build, and for that reason, I am sure it won't be torn down unless it has major structural problems (which would be highly unlikely). Whenever I see unique designs, I cannot help but think about the people that actually built this hotel and casino. I admire them 110% !!
    By the way, the 'back lobby' looks very familiar to me with its low ceiling. Was the wedding chapel just up the escalators from this lobby?
    Another awesome ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐video, Shawn!

      1993 was an amazing year because 3 mega-resorts all opened within a couple of months of each other and they were all exciting. Luxor had its boat ride and pyramid theme, TI had its pirate battle and a really cool arcade/midway and MGM Grand had a giant midway and amusement park. One thing I have thought about lately is how few and far between the casino openings have been. In those days you got to experience a new casino every year or couple of years. Now it has been a decade. Can't wait for Circa and Resorts World next year.

    Ah, luxor, stay in a room in the pyramid and you will hit your head on the slanted glass trying to look down outside. It's really cool standing on the hallway room balconys looking down with nothing below you. Have been going there since it first opened, my best friend's dad worked on the huge light on the top that could be seen from space. The pyramid had lots of plumbing problems and the foundation started to sink on one side, they ran cables along the side while repairing the foundation. It's a cool unique place to go with a great arcade game room for those who don't want to loose all their money in the casino. It connects to excaliber, but it always seemed cheap over there.

    Definitely the most unique hotel on the Strip. Yes, it is showing its age, but well kept, none-the-less, a great property. When it eventually gets demolished, I'm sure the replacement will be even better. Hard to beat, though. Great stuff, thanks for the video !

    AWESOME VIDEO!!! I STAYED THERE TWO WEEKS AGO IN THE TOWER KING SUIT AND DID FINALLY GO RIDE THE ELEVATOR ON THE PYRIMID SIDE FOR THE EXPERIENCE AND THE VIEW AND THAT WAS AWESOME BUT I DIDN'T THINK TO WALK THE OUTSIDE AREA AND TO CHECK OUT THE POOL🤦🤷... THANKS TO YOU, I WILL ON MY OCTOBER VISIT! I USUALLY STAY AT THE WYNN AND COSMO BUT I WILL SAY I DEFINITELY LOVED THE LUXOR MORE THEN THE COSMO, THE WYNN IS JUST MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PLACE BUT THE LUXOR IS ALSO A FUN AND GREAT PLACE FOR ME!! THANKS AGAIN, JUST SUBBED😊

    I rode on the boat ride, at the end the boat went through a replica of Tu Tut Comoon's tomb. It was pretty cool. Saw the body exhibition there too.
    The structure is interesting and one of the better themes, but i assume the design is not the most efficient use of space with the pyramid, which makes it a good candidate to replace.

    • @Milestomemories
      @Milestomemories  2 года назад +1

      Yeah good point. Definitely not the best use of space, but that makes it so unique too.

    Went there maybe in '95 or 96 and loved the boat ride under and was very well done. Went back years later and asked where is it? They said it was gone. Said that is a shame, it was very good. Guy said we hear that all the time.

    • @Milestomemories
      @Milestomemories  4 года назад

      Yeah the boat ride was unique, but expensive to run I imagine. It certainly added something to the property that is now missing, but the days of that type of attraction in Vegas are firmly in the rear view mirror unfortunately.

    I like staying at the Luxor in the cooler months. The issue with Pyramid rooms is that you MUST keep the window shades closed 24/7 during the hot months. Even then the A/C cannot keep the rooms cool enough.

    • @Milestomemories

      Not really, but I think there are some healthy options in the Mandalay Place Mall that connects Luxor to Mandalay Bay and MB has tons of dining options as well. That's one of the great perks of being in Luxor. It's so close to Mandalay Bay that all of the great dining over there is within walking distance.

    We were just there this past weekend, and it was horrible. We booked a pyramid room and moved us to a tower room a supposed upgrade. I swear the room was smaller than what we had booked. Had to ask several times for extra glasses and towels as there was five of us. No blankets on the beds just a couple sheets. Avoid trying to get to your room between 3 and 6 the lines are like standing in line at Disneyland long. Also avoid trying to get down to the casino from 930am to 11am we waited twenty minutes for a free elevator as we were on the 3rd floor. The pool was fine but don't plan on getting a drink as they are using waitresses and it took about 45 minutes to an hour after we were able to order to get our one drink. We were very disappointed as we have stayed here before and have loved it. Sadly don't think we will be staying here again.
