Largest Moose on record is an Alaskan Moose that weighed 1808 pounds and stood 7.6 feet at the shoulder. This one looks to be around that size so very possible. I've seen some pretty big ones in Western Colorado but not nearly this size. The biggest I've seen in person was a bit over 6 feet at the shoulder and I'd guess about 1200 to 1300 pounds. The Yukon Alaskan moose are the largest moose subspecies as well as the largest antlered animal in the world. There have also been many giant moose sightings in northern Alberta and BC as well but the Alaska and Yukon region have the largest average size by population.

Ish... that could have gone really bad for you, especially if you had hit it's legs... O_o Moose are considered to be one of the most deadly animals to hit with a car... since it's not the front of the car that takes the hit, but rather the windshield due to that their legs are so long. It's the reason why we do the so called "Moose test" in Sweden on cars... which is a swerve test, to see if the car is able to swerve out of the way of something, and then get back in to your lane afterward, and not flip over when doing so. XD

An elephant is much more intelligent than a moose. A moose is like a gigantic deer and they tend to be very jumpy at certain times of the year. I've seen a random wandering moose get startled by a car backfiring and ram his (her?) head directly through the rear passenger window in an effort to scare the car off. It certainly scared the passengers off!

I saw my first moose a few nights ago in Barre Massachusetts while driving home from work at about 830 pm. He was just standing still in the road as I was driving towards him. Thank God I saw him. I was beside myself when I saw the size. I could've practically drove under him he was so tall. And his antlers were humongous. Absolutely beautiful animal. The whole thing probably lasted for 10 seconds. He just casually finally crossed and disappeared into the woods. So yes, they do get that big. King of the woods around here. He was absolutely beautiful. I'm 47 years old and he was the first moose in real life that I've ever seen. And I've lived in the same house for my entire life. I still can't believe how big he was. I remember looking up at him and his eye made made contact with me, it was an amazing experience. From now on I drive the speed limit and pay close attention. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I ever hurt one of these majestic creatures while driving. I still can't believe the size. I keep replaying it in my head and every single time I think, WOW!

Actually, I was living in New England when this photo set was taken and hit the 'air'. This moose is on a timber trail up in New Brunswick, Canada, and is VERY real. Keep in mind, that trail is NOT a full width road, but a wilderness trail. The moose in question is about 7'6" at the withers, and maybe 1500-lbs in weight. Top end of the range for this species? Yes. Fake? No. Oh, and the Western or Alaskan Moose actually can be larger than this guy. You should visit Fairbanks Alaska, sometime.

By the way, you can't start the video out with 'Is this moose real?', and then tell us a minute later it was a photo taken at Elliot Lake, Ontario (which it was not). It was in New Brunswick. Upon the photo's release, a group of us actually went up to the general area to ride ATV's on the trails looking to spot him.

The largest moose ever recorded was a bull taken in the Yukon which weighed a ridiculous 1,800 pounds. Unless there has been a bigger one since.

@1jackvalley580 I spent my formative years (3rd-9th grade) in idyllic southern Maine, and the "Pine Tree State" motto would rightly tell you that the state is loaded with vast tracts of wilderness, and it's perfect for Moose to live, thrive, and grow HUUUUGE in an environment like that. Over the years, most every "old-timer" Mainer I've been around wouldn't even hesitate on what the most dangerous animal to stay away from was: MALE MOOSE! Maine also has Black Bears, wolves, etc., which obviously warrant big respect, but in terms of the one animal that you wouldn't want to encounter, ESPECIALLY during mating season, it's a male Moose.

go to the museum and see the history and videos of nature. A video showing a full grown bull moose grazing in a creek eating plant matter. A huge grizzly burst through the tree line and charged the moose. The moose side stepped planted his feet, and hit that grizzly so hard the bears neck snapped and the grizzly laid down dead in the creek. The video said moose are extremely dangerous. Yes, this is actually real. They can grow so big that many tourists who don't know that they can get this big actually think it is a monster of some sort and that was how the Wendigo myth was born. The strongest ones can stand on two legs as well and that's why some people think they saw a Wendigo. Also yes, they can completely crush cars. basically everything about Wendigos is exactly what Mooses can do.

All you have to do is go to Maine. Maine's largest lake, Moosehead Lake (75,000+ acres), is renowned for tourists from around the world staying there just to watch BIG moose routinely swimming in the lake.
This moose was from New Brunswick, which borders Maine, and it was very real. In the northeast, aside from humans, moose don't really have any predators (wolves aren't in hunting packs in New England), and no black bear would dare take on a big moose. So with a lifespan of 20+ years, they basically have free reign to eat plenty of food...and grow HUGE.

I saw one of the giant bulls in Denali NP in 2007.....unbelievable how gigantic he was. He was munching on one side of a bush and another bull came out from the other side, a "normal" sized animal. I could hardly believe what I was seeing, but it was real and I'll never forget it. These guys were in an area where hunting has not been allowed for decades, so big trophy bulls live long lives and produce good offspring. Can't imagine a preditor coming anywhere near one of these big guys until they are dead on the ground of old age.

Moose certainly get at least that big. I saw one in the fall of 1976 near Delta Junction in Alaska that looked bigger. Came lumbering across the highway as I was approaching in a Subaru. It had a giant tree limb or portion of a tree stuck in its rack. Misty steam was pouring out of its nostrils. The rack itself was covered with what looked like swinging pieces of reddish carpet (probably shedding). In any event, the moose took up nearly both lanes. I was braking fast to avoid hitting it and I remember at the time thinking my 1974 Subaru station wagon would have fit underneath it. I saw plenty of moose up there but nothing like that epic one.

I was reading that it is possible (has been noted) that a bull moose can grow to to 10 feet high at the top of the shoulder, with an antler spam of 10 feet across, reaching a weight of 2600 LBs. That is a huge beast. Driving across Canada on vacation we have seen many moose running along beside the highway or crossing the road.

Look at the gravel road and you'll see lighter colored spots in the gravel on either side, worn down from the tires of vehicles. That road is the appropriate width of a one-lane road, plenty wide enough for a large 4x4 truck to go down.

My uncle was in the lead vehicle (an old Scout truck) and he made the mistake of blowing the horn at it to get it to move. The thing just calmly walked over next to his truck, tucked its head down and pushed the truck over onto its side, then just as calmly walked off the road back into the forest. Took us two hours to get the truck out of the ditch and upright again,

It doesn't look photoshopped to me. I used to live in Alaska. There are moose that size up there, too!

FOOTNOTE: I saw a big bull moose on a dirt backroad like this in Longlac, Ontario over 30 years ago. He was similar in size to this one ay 7 feet at the shoulders and the rack like this one is not 4 feet in height but rather a foot and a half to two feet at most. The moose ran across the road on an angle so I got a good look at him. I was approximately the same distance away as in the above and was being chased by wolves which I only saw two of but clearly there were more in pursuit.

He is big and he is real. His name is Elliot. Let's say you do not want to get on his wrong side. I was lucky as I got to see him twice in the wild. This happened many years ago and I do not know if he is still alive.
