Great video, love these dogs. I rescued my Shiba Inu from being attacked by Coyotes. She had defended herself by laying on her back and fending them off as best as she could. During the fight she fell into a pond. that's when I drove up. She had several bites on all four of her legs with one bad bite in her upper left shoulder. Got her checked out by the Vet. I adopted her and named her after the Animal Control Officer. Now Misty has been living with us and our other 5 rescue dogs. We Love her.
What a horrible event! We have the Eastern Coyote here. Our 84 lb sight hound got bitten up pretty badly, but he made it home. I don't think a shiba inu would escape at all. We have warned Momo about this and never let him off the leash.
Such a lovely video. Thank you for sharing. Your pack is so fortunate to live with you in such an idyllic beautiful homestead. I loved watching the pack take turns with the pup. They are such fortunate Shibas to have such an amazing home. There are far too many Shibas here who are neglected and end up in shelters, or worse. My dream is to retire to a property such as yours and give a loving home to Shibas in need. Thank you for sharing your pack with us, they are truly beautiful!
Awww... I've raised Jack Russells for 30 years. I now have 2 rescues. It is now 2 years today that I got a plea to rescue a mixed Jack who was on death row. It turns out the dog is a mix of Shiba and Chi. Chi shaped head, Shiba body and personality. Even the scream. I love him. I can trust him to not get into anything in the house, unlike the Jacks. And when it comes to running and jumping, he can hold his own with the Jacks. I love my crazy Shiba.
@6:10 had me rolling. We have a 4 month old Shiba and she exhibits similar acts as this puppy, such as the biting and nipping at the elders of the pack (i.e. our human family). I've definitely pinned her on her back and held her down like the Shiba at 6:10 and I think she got the point; though she still maintains her adamant personality that all Shibas seem to have. I love her though :) She is as adorable as she is deviant! Very training. Much companionship. Wow. Such amaze.
My friend has a Shiba Inu & she never this active past her puppy stage. She became a very relaxed dog. Makes me wonder if she just got it all out of her system & became an "old" dog once she hit adulthood.
Mine is a snuggle bug. She gets demanding when its time for bed. She likes to play with her toys before she goes to sleep. She is a very finicky eater. She is very loved.
I hope you have a lot of time and energy to devote to a shiba inu. Shibas need a lot of exercise and attention. Mine was a pain in the ass to train and required a lot of patience.
Matt J Besides time and energy, one needs to have understanding about the breed. For more than 20 years Shibas are part of my life and and in these years I believe I may say that I build up (at least) some understanding of them.
Geert Jan Wagemans I agree, but the comment was directed at the person who wants a shiba because "they are cure and adorable." Shibas are not a typical breed and people should not buy a dog before doing research.
i still believe there are no bad gods per se, just bad owners. it just depends how puppies are being raised, what you do when a dog is grown up. how you interact, keep them occupied and i believe up to a big part what you feed them. we have a mixed breed. Jhinn, Chow Chow for sure because he has a purple tongue. and the other part could have been Husky, Laika, Alsatian or something else big. For reasons unknown, from the first day on he never ate dry food ( kibbles i believe you say in your part?). he looked at me like he wanted to say, THAT i should eat? i will not. so we cook now fresh for him every other day. chicken, beef, liver, heart, stomach, whatever the butcher has for us. mixed with buckwheat ( we live in Moscow) , good maccaroni, once in a while Rice. Since i am retired now i have even more time to go out in the park, a 2000 ha big /nature reserve/. he knows when he wants to go u=out he brings me his collar. does not matter which time. in summer it is daylight early, so we go out the first round at 4 in the morning. but sometimes he does not feel like doing anything. and he sleeps until 12 noon. I am the /first dog/ so in the park or home he lets ME sort out things. But try to come close to my wife. he will not bite at first. but immideately goes between her and the adversary. a growl and show of teeth and that is it. if they shake ands or kiss or whatever, all is ok. but he nevertheless watch very close. for us Jhinn is not a /dog/ but part of the family. together with 3 cats and a parrot. who are all friends.
They are absolutely nice looking dogs. I’ve always wanted one but heard from ppl that own say they aren’t very affectionate, hard to train, only do what they want, they are not social with other dogs and aloof. Is this true? Could this be changed if you train them at a early age?
Hi Gina Lee, ...they aren’t very affectionate..., not true! ...hard to train..., not true! ...only do what they want..., not true! ...they are not social with other dogs..., not true! ...aloof..., not true! But, for all answers I could have written: "some are"! When you plan purchasing a Shiba puppy be sure you get it from a responsible, reputable breeder. I don't know from where you are, but you have to contact the national breed club and ask for the breeders directory to find a good breeder. Never ever buy a puppy from a puppy mill. Please don't!! And for more information about my Shibas, you can go to my other videos on RUclips.
I have a 31 lb. 1 year old female Shiba Inu, she's supposed to be a AKC papered purebred, is this possible? Everything online says a female should only weigh 20lbs. Please advise me on your thoughts. Thanks
When 31 lb strands for 14.06 kilograms then indeed that is too much for a female. I can't tell you if she is overweight, as I don't know what the size of your Shiba is.
You may want to be extra careful, while they are independent dogs, they can wreak havoc if they don't have enough attention, I'd suggest getting up around 6, having a walk and playtime, and hiring a dog walker around noon to check up and take your shiba to the park
@@MutantTaco5 No. If you have the yard space like this owner for this video your Shiba should be fine. They can run freely and get some exercise. Leave some toys they like and water. Keep your shoes and slippers out of sight. Your Shiba should be fine. Not every dog breed needs their owner with them at all times. Shibas are one of those breeds. Read the history of the breed and know their temperament. It's all you need on how to take care of them.
+sakura Haruno 春 野 In the US there are Shiba rescue organizations. The one near us in the DC/VA area has five or six ready for adoption. All have been fostered in a lovely pack and they are gaining the social skills they need. I have had four rescued shibas and they are wonderful. that's wonderful! did she belong to anyone else before the attack? Hope she's well!
Yes, I assume so. That area was popular for people to abandon dogs. In fact I witnessed an abandonment.

Wow. I wouldn't think the Shiba could fight back that well considering there were four of them, the Shiba did pretty well. Glad you saved her.
I would love to meet her and her hero! Great job Ken!

My shiba would envy your dogs, if he found how fun their life styles are. I will refrain from letting him to watch this video.
I'm thinking of getting a Shiba but I'm at school from 8:45-3:25. Are shiba okay when by themselves at your house?

+sakura Haruno 春 野 i did and found a lot, but her dogs are the pretties ^.^
+sakura Haruno 春 野 no still in between a Shiba, Husky or German Shepherd
+sakura Haruno 春 野 the problem is shibas aren't popular in my country so it can be very hard to find one
