Great video and concise explanations. I don't recall other videos talking about the shims, so I'm glad you included that here. Look forward to installing my DB SE this week!
Appreciate the video. I installed mine about a year ago, wish I would have found this video first. I did the full install without doing the shims first 🤦♂️ I had to readjust something, so I was looking for videos just in case I forgot something for the reinstall. So thank you.
Thanks for sharing your install video. I have a question; I started putting my SE on my TRD OR, I removed the bar going across the bed with the 5 torx screws and I installed the foam seal across, then putting the cross bar back I was having a hard time putting the torx screws back on because the foam seal made it difficult to align the screw holes and the only way I got it to work was to flip the cross bar around. Did you also have to do the same thing. It was really hot in my garage so I’m gonna have to finish it tonight and hoping flipping the bar around will not make any difference as far as the completion of the cover install. Thanks
That Diamondback is such a beautiful bedcover, and so functional. Love it. A question. Do you know, does it get very hot if it's out in the hot summer sun all day, how hot to the touch, scalding being metal and all black? I really wonder about this. It's the only real concern I have. Thanks.
Great video! Have you heard any issues of the panels not opening all the way? I feel like my safety mechanism via bar is restricting the panel to the front from opening completely.
I might be ignorant on the subject. But what's stopping someone from opening the tailgate and stealing your belongings? Does the locking mechanism engage the tail gate somehow and prevents the tailgate from being opened?
Modern trucks tailgates lock with remote control simultaneously with the door locks. So as long as you lock the truck the tailgate itself locks and if the lock the diamondback cover a theief would be probably better off cutting through the side of the bed which is time consuming/noisy

Thanks for a detailed explanation. Installing mine today!

It does get hot, but not as bad as a flat surfaced trifold. The diamond plate and coating really help keep it easy to touch.
Thanks. Do you think the newer smooth black version would be similar to the diamond plated version in regards to not getting so hot?@@GearKnowHow
Great video 👍🏽
This was a good detailed video! I just wish you made this video in July😅
Great video!

Nope no issues with mine so far
So does the Tacoma install only use 2 lock rod brackets toward the tail gate? How does the side that faces the cab lock?
Two locking points right near the cab near the locking handle
Can I ask, what are the shims for under the rail cover made of? I'm buying a used Diamondback and will need to figure out a solution for this.
Some kind of rubber with adhesive
@@GearKnowHow OK, so more firm than squishy like a seal strip would be, more hard rubber.
I might be ignorant on the subject. But what's stopping someone from opening the tailgate and stealing your belongings? Does the locking mechanism engage the tail gate somehow and prevents the tailgate from being opened?
Yes once locked you can’t open it without some serious tools
Modern trucks tailgates lock with remote control simultaneously with the door locks. So as long as you lock the truck the tailgate itself locks and if the lock the diamondback cover a theief would be probably better off cutting through the side of the bed which is time consuming/noisy
You just lock the tail gate with your keys
Great job. Go App
are the shims needed for the 2023 Tacoma TRD SPORT?
Most likely, same bed design as mine
You need to do your follow up video and accs.
Soon!
Thanks!
DiamondBack Tri Fold coming to market 4/23.
any news on this? I want a diamond back, but not too found of the current designs
Spoke to Diamondback sales rep again on 4/14/23 and he stated the trifold release was delayed and 5/1/23 is new projected release date.
