Whatever his grandfather was, he was a KGB thug in the era of Stalin and the USSR and all its works. He did his share of persuasion, too. Hands far from clean and he revels in the fact. Wants to return to those days with himself in charge of proceedings.

When Putin came to power, Russia initially stopped sliding into the abyss, and the country slowly began to emerge from that situation.
So KGB "Angels" was clearing the way till Putin came to power, and Putin kept cleaning mess so all way to right now, Russia is much better now.
