Squat stands are independent vertical supports which you set up to rest the bar on like the ones in the video. A half rack is very similar, except these stands are connected by a horizontal piece of metal - so they are one solid piece, and as such are inherently more stable. A full rack is a big cage, even more stable than a half rack, and provide better support safety bars. The title of the video is somewhat tongue in cheek - you can use stands for the purposes of bench pressing, but you are liable to the sort of situation you see in this video. Here I had just gotten these new squat stands and was trying them out. I felt like something was off the first few times I used them - they were oriented in the incorrect direction, which was what caused them to move out of position when reracking. Once I got that sorted out, I never had this issue again! Been using them for a couple of years without issues, although if I'm going heavy I do prefer to train in a commercial gym where I can ask for a spot.
olympic weight lifters squat on those all the time, but yeah, for the general population probably not a good idea. something with safety bars to catch the bar in case of a fail is the way to go 100% of the time.
* why you shouldn't smash your bar into improperly secured squat stands with the wrong height for you when benching... I've benched on squat stands 3x a week for 3+ years now with no issue everrr
If an idiot is going to use a slippery floor with a squat rack, this is what happens. I use my squat rack for bench -rest safely because I have a non-slip hard rubber floor.
@@Who_Does If you bench with a wider powerlifting bench type grip, than it could, yes. You are better off getting a rack. The benefit to stands like this is being able to save on space and they are more portable. However, if you mainly bench with a narrower grip, do overhead work, and mainly front squat, (like myself), these are great 👍
The majority of weightlifting fatalities happen on the bench. The bar travels over the trachea and carotid artery. A slipped grip onto the neck or jaw bone (even with spotters) is a gruesome sight. Use of safeties is the only truly effective way to protect from a slipped grip or missed rep.
Not the brightest bulb uh... Put weights on the base and push them up against a wall. I use these and they never move. Plus you should have them place on a lifting mat or rug not a slippery floor SMH
I wouldn't use those. But if I WERE to use them, I'd have em backed up against the wall at least, so they don't move. Not the one piece incline bench you have against the wall. That thing will rarely, if not never, slide on you. So rotate those two with each other 👍🏼
So basically, the independently moving stands can cause a dangerous situation if you accidentally nudge it out of place and unlike a squatting position which allows you to have some mobility to correct it, laying on a bench means you cant go chasing the rack if it moves. I suggest to get out of this situation you drop the bar slowly to your non dominant side and slip off the other way.
I have been benching with squat stands for years now.But yeah if I had another choice I totally wouldn't do it either. But I have been lucky never encountered a situation like this.
Good thing I saw this, was planning to get one like this for my home gym (I could fit in a power rack for sure, just can’t find one that convinces me enough to spend the amount it costs in my country, like cheapest US ones cost easily double here), now I’m definitely looking for another solution as I do want it for squats but also want to make the purchase worth it and also use for other lifts
Same boat here, I was waiting for weeks to decide on t3,x3 from titan fitness after reading reviews, comparisons. Well, I waited too long and their sales ended. Then I thought, i coulld and would be fine with a half rack, I'm not going for PRs. I find myself browsing and comparing , undecided once again. Have you made a final decision, or have eyes on a a particular brand?
You should have a dumbbell behind them to keep them there or simply move the legs of the stands to be under the bench so even if they do move it's not far
Yeah bro shouldn’t even have a home gym at this point if he’s working out on wood didn’t even bother to put any matts on the floor imagine how scratched it is.
Issue is he's placed the stands on a wooden slippery floor. They will shift easily. And they are also the type of stands that don't have plate holders on them (if you have weight plates stored on them, they are harder to move when you bang into them because of poor placement for a bench setup).
I have squat stands and i never had any problems using it for years, be it for bench press, squats, its how you can use your common sense on the placement of the stand, also based on the video, get some gym flooring bro, it has more friction than your floor now, trust me itll make so much difference, but if youre too lazy for that, just buy a squat rack.
1. You have the rack set too high for you to easily lift off and rerack. 2. Those are not well designed squat stands 3. No safeties. Buy BOS or similar SS with a way to add weight so they don't shift on you and where you can add safeties and it's the same as benching in a rack. Been using BOS SS for over 5 yrs with this set up and 100% of the time avoided the issues you raised here. Really what you should be saying is don't bench in cheap SS.
Slick wood floor. Cheap squat stands (very light-weight). Not secured to the floor (even heavy dumbbells or 45’s over the front legs would help). Kinda obvious that you shouldn’t bench on this set up.
Gen z cracks me up man, y’all just can’t help dropping weights on yourselves and trapping yourselves under bars and shit..you guys need like special gyms or something.
For those of us who are noobs, what is a squat stand, a half rack, et.

@@ericooliveira9693 there's definitely higher quality squat stands that you could add spotter arms to though
The bench behind ya would it fit a small room 7ft w is the max I can fit in my room
You are too weak to be told.
I wouldn’t squat on that either
Me neither 😂
Right?
Me either racks junk
Racks Of Death!!

Should’ve reracked the minute he heard the barbell bang into the stand
Exactly
He has earphones in
He didn’t want to waste the set
Affirmative
* why you shouldn't smash your bar into improperly secured squat stands with the wrong height for you when benching...
I've benched on squat stands 3x a week for 3+ years now with no issue everrr
I reckon he’s done this deliberately,
At least he knew how to get out of it
And now I do too

This was screaming trouble from the first rep
This was user error. The squat stands were set up poorly. They should have been closer together with the legs underneath the middle of the bench.
User error: power rack not found
100%
Plus the hooks should have been set a notch lower.
wouldn't that mess up with your grip though? I was thinking of getting same rack

Doing it on The wood floors is what's stressing me out
That was actually a very well done roll of shame though, so good demonstration on that front.
Yeah this should be titled "why did I upload this?"..Poor placement of the racks, and u could put weights on them so they dont slide
Couple sand bags and this wouldn’t happen. This whole video is dangerous. Benching over 300 lbs with no spotter or spotter arms at least.

This is true, although you can get a squat rack that connects the two bits together if you know what I mean
Great recovery!

Insecure kid
When he failed the rep and first looked over towards the camera direction, I thought it was Robzilla! RIP
easy fix, place a weight behind the stand and move forward an inch.
the most triggering thing has to be you benching over wood floors
Thank you so much, just saved me big bucks
Thanks for the info I’m probably getting a gym at my house soon
Much safer to get one that has much more support and a built in brace that connects it together.
I wouldn't use those. But if I WERE to use them, I'd have em backed up against the wall at least, so they don't move. Not the one piece incline bench you have against the wall. That thing will rarely, if not never, slide on you. So rotate those two with each other 👍🏼
Bro got the balls day in time
That sucks so bad. (The equipment) use what ya got until something better is available
Put the stands a little closer together and spin them so the pins stick out on the inside not the outside, that is what bumped into the weights

Great control 👏🏼

I did for the first 20 years of my lifting career
My squat racks are one piece that have a cross bar not separate
I did that at first but I had the bottom leaning against a wall, and then covered and stabilized by some plates. That’s how I squated w those racks
Hmm a mat underneath would have benefited. Should prob order that now bro.
This squat stand is simply too high. Mine is perfect and I had no issue
Like the last rep!😮
LMAO, I’ve done the same and know how painful it is rolling that heavy bar on your body 😂
You should have a dumbbell behind them to keep them there or simply move the legs of the stands to be under the bench so even if they do move it's not far
Change that to why you should never bench on cheap squat stands. I bench in a cage that is used for squats and bench so it doesn’t move
mate thanks for showing this > u have confirmed by fear! I am not gonna but this !
put plates on each stand so they don't move
He should put sandbags on the bases so they don't move or tip when unracking and re-racking
That poor floor.
5" wide Brazilian!!!!!!!! Made me want to cry.
Stand wouldnt slide if he had something protecting it too
Yeah bro shouldn’t even have a home gym at this point if he’s working out on wood didn’t even bother to put any matts on the floor imagine how scratched it is.
Good thing you didn’t have any weight on the bar

His balls😂
Two piece racks and three piece barbells. I won't touch them with a ten foot pole.
Movable racks on a smooth surface , yikes. Love my cage
That was the time he know… he is fucked up
Those should not move at all , they should be bolted to the ground , this is why I prefer a cage rather than a rack
Do it against the wall and u good
Just put a brace on it so it can’t move and it’s not a big deal. But standing independently like that you’re asking for trouble
Great leg drive bro
Bruh he was basically hip thrusting that weight, his butt lifted 2 inches off the bench, that's not how leg drive works
The problem is you are working out on hard wood. Get some matts and it will stop it from sliding around a lot. This is user error.
1 set up poorly 2 have you ever heard of safety spotters 3 everyone benches on a squat rack
Well i mean it would make sense to anchor the rack first 😂🤦🤷
I have squat stands and i never had any problems using it for years, be it for bench press, squats, its how you can use your common sense on the placement of the stand, also based on the video, get some gym flooring bro, it has more friction than your floor now, trust me itll make so much difference, but if youre too lazy for that, just buy a squat rack.
Did you get a power rack yet?
Never
Yarrrr!
God bless everyone
Ugh knew it
then they're done that! And it's scary if you're alone
This is a user problem, not the other way around
Skinny jeans is pretty strong

Why do these even exist
I wouldn’t squat on that. On tall well supported ones with a great base it’s perfectly fine
Maybe use the bench behind
Should of used the bench press behind
first I would use them for anything but if I were to, you have no other weight to at least weight them down. lol
That floor
Slick wood floor. Cheap squat stands (very light-weight). Not secured to the floor (even heavy dumbbells or 45’s over the front legs would help). Kinda obvious that you shouldn’t bench on this set up.
I hope this was just a demo and this guy didnt actually think it was a good idea to do this to begin with.
no the rack is just set up to high
I wouldn’t do anything on that
You ain’t supposed to bench that much weights by yourself anyways. Don’t care how strong you think you are. You were definitely struggling there.
Anchor the rack down it should be ok
If youre too cheap buy a proper rack, least you could do is duct tape them to the floor
at least put some floor mats so u dont mess up the floor.
Those racks are an abomination
Stop hip thrusting it
uhhh
Only if you are a doofus and can't handle the weight you're pushing
Squat stands are not for noobs... noob wouldn't set them up like this noob has... Floor surface is not suitable either.... Needs some rubber matting..
Gen z cracks me up man, y’all just can’t help dropping weights on yourselves and trapping yourselves under bars and shit..you guys need like special gyms or something.
Not very smart are you?
too far apart...
Shite
That just wrong setup
