Gotta get chipper on again, he’s honestly the best talent and personality I feel like Braves Country has ever been blessed with. Always a treat to see him speak

Can we get the translation for "solitaire"? Good interview all. I'm about the same age as Chipper, and aside from massive gaps in talent, we kinda had that same "play whatever is in season" approach. And, having grown up in the south, I felt the same, just being able to seamlessly move from environment to environment, all because sports brought us together.

    Love the podcast.
    True Story:
Chippers father was our JV basketball coach. Chipper was several years younger than we were and one game we were getting our asses handed to us so at half-time an exasperated Coach Jones was letting us have it; "My God, guys! Chipper could do a better job than you guys are." After a couple moments of silence one of our better players, Parnell Crowder said, "Well go get him, we need the help." That was 40 some odd years ago and it still makes me laugh.
    Pierson-Taylor Wildcats, ftw.

Chipper and Griffey are my two favorite players. Got to see them both go deep when Griffey was on the Reds. My mom actually waited on Chipper, Smoltz and a few others at a place called Fort Wayne in Reynolds Ga

Anything in sports is a mix of nature/nurture, there are obviously genetic (nature) or birthed things like size, height, sight but I truly believe and the studies back this up, that the nurture plays a much bigger role and this starts unconsciously at a very very early age. It sounds like Chippers dad started nurturing him and his athletic ability at a very early age. Watching and playing sports at a very early age start to subconsciously developing these things many call "intangibles" they are subconsciously building that sports specific IQ. If their parent plays a sport or their siblings play a sport and they are dragged along to the field or the rink or arena from birth they just start to pick these things up. Then once they start playing these game they start to consciously develop these attributes and they can hone them through deep practice and deliberate practice and deliberate play. Great podcast. Very interesting interview.
