No, sorry to report that no deity helped me learn how to play. I am almost entirely self-taught except for a few lessons early on when I was 11. About 2 months of lessons once a week on acoustic guitar then I taught myself everything else. Thanks!
This is one of the finest covers of any song on RUclips. You captured both the power and the subtlety of Tom Sholz's brilliant guitar playing on this song. Bravo!
Just watched Rick Beato explain the cord progression for this song - watching you play the guitar lead was amazing and gave me goose bumps. Thanks my friend - going to watch it all again, (:) 🥲👍
ty! The only "unusual" thing about the chords is the 2 chord. It is made major, then dom7 b4 going into the 5 chord on the verses. I think everything else is just all in the same key. correct me if I'm wrong.
We're all still kids when this music comes on. Whether you're playing it or listening to it, it's a time machine that takes us way back. Good times indeed. Great job on the guitar!!!
I'm 69 years young, when Boston first came out I listened to the radio hits, and their first album was great, but never really heard or listened to much of the second album. Now in retirement I've gotten back into my guitar, and trying to become that guitarist I'll never be. But I found this song on RUclips, and have gotten completely hooked on it. You brother have inspired me greatly, showing me what I can do with a love for a song, and my guitar. Thank you for such a great video!!
+Jeffrey P Yeah, I need one of those for this tune. But I never owned one. I used them when I worked at a music store in the 80s. I really liked the clean sounds. Chorused and stereo.
What's even more amazing is that most of the guitar, bass, and keyboards were performed by Boston founder Tom Scholz himself, although other players were involved sporadically throughout the recordings. He and singer Brad Delp defined what the Boston sound was and still is to that day !
The song itself is a masterpiece. My very favourite Boston tune ever. But watching you play it so consummately, literally sent chills up my spine. Thank you...
thx. yeah, it's a great solo. Boston always had good solos because Tom would obviously craft them and learn them and record them instead of just winging them. They have a more... timeless appeal that way, I think. Unless you are just great at ad libbing greatness. ty

Yeah me too truthsurge....the only song in my 62 years of life that revels what I feel. It puts me in another world. Love all of their songs....but this one captures me n the one next to it is undoubtably More Than A Feeling. Its of a certainty played from the heart. Many thanks to the band Boston.
to Tony Tupelo, since I cannot reply to his comment thanks to some GooTube bullshit programming: thanks! I get pretty close sometimes. I think I have a tendancy to drag a little bit. Maybe it's because I don't rehearse these but a couple times right after I learn them. I used to play in a rock band back around 1983/84 and I knew the songs like the back of my hand and could play them in my sleep left handed so these play-alongs are done mostly after I quickly learn them with hardly 2 run throughs. So there are some mistakes but for the time I invested, they are fun.
You sit inspire to actually Lear to play like my idol David Gilmore his solos speak to me either that or it was the blotter lol thanks for the music great solo man
When I was a kid I had my guitar teacher figure some of this song out for me. It was about 1982 and my guitar teacher, Carmen Carmonica, would spend a few weeks in Utica NY and then he would fly out to Vegas and play for Tony Orlando. Boston was a bit different flirty him but he was good and when he had the time he had figured out the song. However, he had figured out the piano. To this day I still play the piano portion of the song on guitar. I've never known any other musicians that wanted to do this song. You, Mr Surge, have unlocked the mystery. I'm hoping to do an acoustic version of this song with my band by next year. Man I'll never be will always be one of my favorite Boston songs. I'll be watching this video over and over.
That was the most amazing play along i have ever heard. I have loved Boston's music since they started and you were on the mark. Thanks for choosing this amazing song and posting this. Keep it up.

Amazing!!!!! Then I watched this video and again OMG!!!!! Amazing !!!!! Who hasn’t played air guitar to all of the Boston songs??? My favorite group of allllll time!!! Thank you for taking the time and sharing your great talent with all of us. Boston should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ...... one of the great travesties that they keep getting passed over ..... I keep praying one of these years while I am still alive! You so do them such a great honor in performing their music is such an extraordinary fashion!!!!! Please do some more of their songs for us!!!
This is one of my favorite Boston songs, and I have listened to many people try to cover it. This is the finest I have ever heard. Absolutely flawless. You are a true artist!
thank ya. Yeah, see, most people will get close and a very few will get very close. I miss maybe... 2 notes in this apart from me just winging a little bit of the chords. I didn't really practice enough and I'm playing it in a different key on the fretboard BUT I like to think I basically got 99% of it. I missed one slide in the solo and maybe one or two notes in the rhythm/verse part but overall I was very happy with it. I used a bit fatter sound than the actual Boston sound so it kind of stands out a bit against the album. Another Boston song I think I did well on is The Journey/It's Easy. Smokin' I did pretty well on. Long Time. Totally just played it w/o enough rehearsal and learning so I literally mess up in there but I didn't care. I wasn't trying to make albums. I was just having fun from memory having learned those things back in the 70s. thx!!!
Holy crap, that sounded excellent! I put good headphones on to listen to it through my iPhone 6s, and you nailed it, bro! I love this solo, it's probably my favorite solo to play from the band, and I can play it exactly like on the album, so I really appreciated that you can also! BTW, nice guitar! I used to own that guitar! And I too used to play nothing but KISS back in the day! And regarding Tom's sound, I bought the Rockman when it came out, and I'm so glad you know about Ty Tabor! Dude, you're my new fav RUclips guitarist! Right on, man!
I am 60 years old, UK based and have been fortunate in life to have seen many of the big name rock bands here and around the world, I can honestly say I have enjoyed your many videos on my iPad and headphones as much as any concert I have been to. Sing along and play along my rocking friend, I can’t help feeling but for circumstances in the ether of time past I would have attended many of your concerts and hailed you legend. Thank you.
Very cool brother. I was in a couple of bands back in the late 70's and early eighties. We had rehearsal space at the Cambridge Music Complex. Several Boston based bands did too. The Cars and across from ours was Boston's. I got to meet the members of the Cars and sit in with them while rehearsing songs for Panorama. I was told that Boston hadn't been at their rehearsal space. It was at the time they where in a battle with the record company and had to reform under different names. I saw Boston at the Boston Gardens in 1979. Sammy Hagar was the opener.
I've never been to Boston. I'm sure it's a cool place. Was Sammy HAgar solo then? I know he was with Ronnie Montrose at some point. Maybe by 79 he was solo. I guess he had to be. By what, 1985 he was with VH?
TruthSurge It was billed as Boston with special guest Sammy Hagar. I wish it was Montrose though. I just found it. It was November 6, 1978. The set list did include Bad Motor Scooter.
Sammy was good on guitar, though. No slouch. But he had a good voice so that's mainly what his thing was. I had that Montrose album with bad motor scooter. It was cool
To the 40 jerks that gave a thumbs down let's hear your play along version of this song! Ha!Ha! Yes we are all waiting to hear you play! My first concert as a 16 year old kid my older cousin took me to see Boston "Live" 1976, they debuted "A Man I'll Never Be" my hair was standing up on my arm all night, needless to say 43 years later still great music, Outstanding job reproducing it
That was uber cool. You caught the essence of that beautiful song and nailed The sound and feel. You just made my day. Thanks
thanks!!!
Wow
Made my day too! It's my birthday. Beautiful job on this, bud!
Lyft cool as well!
Come to Bristol in the UK and join my band Crossfire, we need you now!!!!. Excellent. Continue the great work.
Love that song. Great job on guitar
The difference to play guitar with the soul........ Wonderful
to Tony Tupelo, since I cannot reply to his comment thanks to some GooTube bullshit programming:
thanks! I get pretty close sometimes. I think I have a tendancy to
drag a little bit. Maybe it's because I don't rehearse these but a
couple times right after I learn them. I used to play in a rock band
back around 1983/84 and I knew the songs like the back of my hand and
could play them in my sleep left handed so these play-alongs are done
mostly after I quickly learn them with hardly 2 run throughs. So there
are some mistakes but for the time I invested, they are fun.
When you got it... you got it and man, you got it 👏
My guitar player from high school Jim Westfall,,,you remind me of him, listen to the song twice boom he's off and running,,great job
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🍺🍺👌
You sit inspire to actually Lear to play like my idol David Gilmore his solos speak to me either that or it was the blotter lol thanks for the music great solo man
Awesome job! Probably my favorite Boston tune.
Dude your awesome. Love BOSOTN!! I feel fortunate to see them in the day. Rock on my brother!
thanks!
My favorite Boston song. Great job....You rock on guitar. God bless Brad Delp n Boston. YOUR ABSOLUTELY AWESOME......I WANT HEAR MORE. SURREAL
my favorite song of all time, and YOU NAILED IT FLAWLESSLY!!
thanks!
Very nice! That song is a masterpiece by Boston. Good choice off a song to cover👍

Phenomenal playing brother. My favorite Boston song. Tom Shulz was also a big influence on me.
Boston is great guitar music. BTW, Bravo!👏🏻
Wow, that is some excellent work dude. That's a great re-creation of the Boston tone, especially without using any Rockman products.
thx. yeah, it's GUitar RIg 5.
Guitar Rig 5? Pro or Player? What setup do you use to achieve this sound?
When you're Rock Royalty, things like this come easily. He's brilliant!
I had just gotten done watching another RUclips video on Boston’s More Than A Feeling Ep.17 of “What Makes This Song Great” Then I saw your video listed and watched when you cover that song Omg!!!!!!
Right on, man!
thanks! but this guitar is a homemade one. parts. I have a few King's X tunes on here.
TruthSurge id like to know where and how you get your sound and if you can play walk on
wow! Boston should hire you! Great job my friend!
thx!!
Dude, you are an inspiration.
I could watch/listen to that sublime solo forever. Brings tears to my eyes, it's so beautiful.
ty!
Thank you.
I'm so jealous right now! Damn, great work bro!
thank ya!
Yep!
Definitely the best song off this album. And a poignant message, considering Brad's death.
TruthSurge Sammy was solo. He wore his signature red leather. You're probably right it was around 85.
ok.. I saw some vid on YT where he did bad motor scooter but it was w/o Ronnie. Maybe he was solo then. 79 I think it was. later!
It was cool
Still watching it regularly especially now we are stuck in UK lockdown. Really love truthsurges' videos. Keep them coming.
To the 40 jerks that gave a thumbs down let's hear your play along version of this song! Ha!Ha! Yes we are all waiting to hear you play! TruthSurge you absolutely "killed" it on this awesome Boston song! Kudos to exceptional playing and tone on your efforts! I am a huge Boston fan! I got to hear them play at OLE MISS in either 76-77! Blew my fricking mind and every single person in that coliseum that night! For real!
Mac Baker
Awesome! great playing!
You should Tap into Boston's guitarist Barry Goudreau's work solo and with Orion the Hunter, Great songs there too!
thanks. I did Dreams already. check it out! :)
