THANK YOU! I'm doing a sweater, and did a whip stitch into a provisional cast on for the body hem. I'm doing the sleeves now, and this video was exactly what I needed to make this a bit easier. Yay! Excellent, easy to follow video, even viewing it on my phone with old eyes. 🙂
Thank you for the video, I am almost at the end of a knitted maxi skirt, it has been done with simple knit stitches (I’m a beginner)but now I need to do a waistband, I did 10 rows of 2x2 ribbing instead of stockinette …now how can I start a new row (considering that I want to follow your tutorial) Should I purl also the knit stitches ? Sorry for the stupid question 😅
The method in my video works well when your turn hem is at the cast-on end of the piece. But with your skirt it sounds like your turned hem is at the end - at the bind-off end of the piece. You can still do a turned hem, but you'll have to hand-seam down the bind-off edge. I'm not sure if this fully answers your question but I hope it helps? Happy knitting! :)
I think it may be too thick, but I'm wondering if you worked the bottom part in St st, then worked the ridge, and then worked in say k5, p1. This way the outside (what shows) is in the rib stitch but the part that gets turned under is in St st. I'm not sure since I haven't tried it myself but it could be a worth a little swatching to see!
Very well explained. Many years ago I did that and it was a real struggle for me.
Beautiful and you explained the process very well.

I wish I could figure out how to share a picture... Truly, this method gave me a hem that is as neat as can be.
Elizabeth, I need a hem on the purl side of a flat piece of knitting. I'm having trouble.
Very interesting!!! Thank you.... Would this technique be good for the brim of a cap?
It could! Only downside is that it would be flexible so it won't be form fitting around your head/ears.

Thank you! Do you think it would work well even with a pattern of K5, P1 or would that be too thick?
