Message man is about writing music with the kind of themes that Tyler writes about. The song makes more sense when you imagine a comma between message and man "Please use discretion when you're messing with the message, man" The song is saying "you don't know what people feel or have been through, so be careful when writing about these feelings"
To me, Message Man is Tyler talking to people outside the Clique. Lyrics that makes me think that is when he is talking about these lyrics not being for everyone. The line "It's just poetry divided, I'm the kind of guy Who takes every moment he confided in Music to use for others to use it" is him telling people outside the Clique what his music means. The other reason I believe this is the repeated line "My people singing".
Message man, is about the spiritual nature of his music as a means for transformation. He talks about nowness and presence as a means of getting out of your mind. And understanding that all the narrative he spins that we relate to is both truth and a narrative. And while it comes close to a truth in a spiritual sense, through all of its meaning we have to be careful that some of the sadness does not become the message. Otherwise people may reach powerful truth like whether to k*** themselves for example through something that looks like a deeper understanding of reality and pain. But this is the danger of walking close to the truth. Its like being under an illusion when you're high and everything makes sense. Watch out what you take for the truth basically.
An excellent part 2. I really like how you compile both the lyric interpretations, the real life events surrounding the band, and cool editing and visuals. Since you kinda asked our interpretation of Message Man, I always thought of it as people misreading the band’s intentions and message for their music. People saying their music is dangerous or bad because those people have misunderstood the songs’ meanings and purpose. “Only few understand.” That’s my perspective anyway. Anyway, loving this series. Excited for the next one!
Not Today starts off with Tyler saying "you are out of my mind" as in "you don't know what I'm going through". But a friend comes along and says "not today", tears the curtains down and opens the windows, not letting him stay in a slump. At the end he says "I am out of my mind" for rejecting the friend at the beginning.
Absolute perfect timing. Just stumbled across your channel and found the first part about vessel, as soon as I finished that one, this one was uploaded, so lucky me awake at 2AM. Loved both videos, by the way.
this and the vessel video are perfect wtf, i absolutely loved every single second of this. im just kinda sad that i found out about this at part 2 only because now i gotta wait for part 3 😭
33:22 i feel you 😭 im a utah clikkie in the weber/davis area, im just glad im not in st george,,, its awful there. Im going to the clancy tour, its my first concert ever, but my college just so happens to start a week later. And band camp is before that, so i have to be at band camp 8 am literally the day after the concert. Im gonna die but ill gain some corr memories. Also,,, these videos are amazing!!! Great editing and i also dont have any friends who are fans, so i love listening to people share their opinions and insights on the band :)
UR videos are awesome, epic, and thought provoking!!! I find the most amazing thing about "The Boys" is how they have continued to amaze and put out such great albums although Scaled and Icy I did pass on being that I am 45yrs old, wait am I even allowed here in the clique? I been here since Vessel and my two sons are huge fans now, we just went to see Clancy in Boston, so yea I think by simply adding a few kids to the mix and my insane love for their music and the fact I danced and screamed as loud as every adolescent at the show I have earned my yellow duct tape!!; seriously though ur thoughts on the albums has made me see them in a new light and made them brand new again, thanks for that
Dude, you literally have the best TØP analysis on the internet! I love your videos, and I love that you're doing all the albums and analyzing every song from the album (although I'm a little salty you're not doing RAB or ST, but that's ok).
I just realized it is a part 2 and it has not a part 3 yet and I'm just incredibly thankful for this video. You're amazing thank you for explaining everything so well, I loved it
my interpretation of message man -(especially after the lore/story was confirmed and set place.[i was first introduced to twenty one pilots during the trench era, i think i officially called myself a twenty one pilots fan in late trench era, but never really called myself a die-hard fan until sai era.] i've always known that there was something more to their music since i started listening to it, and have been getting deeper and deeper ever since.) - is it's from Clancy's perspective, in a way. i see this especially in the lyric ~ Please use discretion when you're messin' with the message, man These lyrics aren't for everyone, only few understand ~ please use discretion when you're messing with the message man, i see as Clancy saying; don't come after me i'm just the message man, i'm not the one that you're after.' and the lyric, these lyrics aren't for everyone only few understand, is kind of a double meaning for me, only few understand about how much Tyler's music is talking about mental health and only few can relate to the struggles of mental health. and only few understand / know that there is a deeper meaning and story behind the music. especially as the dema story line is becoming more set in stone in trench, becoming more publicly known that there's a story behind the music. (sorry, this is long and it might be a bit confusing. but i do have a more dema storyline interpretation of hometown, i've never saw the song in the way you described it but it makes sense and i do like/agree with it.)
for hometown, i see it as ~ Where we're from, there's no sun, our hometown's in the dark ~ is tyler describing dema, a dark place with no sun. and as for why he's saying we, i interpret it as he's talking about himself and josh. or him talking about him and the other citizens of dema, to josh and the banditos. the lyric ~ I know, I know you can bring the fire, I can bring the bones I know, I know you'll make the fire, my bones will make it grow ~ could be talking about how josh is the torch bearer, even though these concepts arent introduced until trench/the hiatus.
also, i want to say thank you for another REALLY GOOD video! i can tell it took a lot of time and effort to make this. can't wait for the next one, but please don't rush yourself! great work takes time.
Bro that Lane Boy intro went SO HARD. This video's editing was super cool, fits the vibe, its crisp & you build it up nicley. I'm really looking for forward to your Trench review, I've been debating whether I want to go see TOP now that their touring near me, you're really convincing me I should give it a try; I thought I outgrew this era but maybe revisiting ain't so bad
To me message man is talking about how words can have such meanings so carful with what you and how you say things. His people singing have gone through possibly big and small issues or changes but for those outside dont always see that, like social media most only show what you want them to see. And so his songs and alumbs dont resonate to everyone, they might hear it but THEY DONT HEAR IT. Will you be doing this with scaled and icy and clancy as well or was it only these three
Love this!!! Thanks for putting in the hours to put this together! Love your humor and editing skills! 😆 As far as Not Today, I see it as Tyler preparing for the final battle - Goner. Like a video game - gotta grind and get good sleep and make 37 full heart meals before facing the big boss. During the last bit of the song I imagine a whole parade of friends/family/the clique marching along to that last (or thought to be last) confrontation. But then when we get there to Goner, all that support seems to disappear and Tyler has to contend with Blurryface alone (at least at first).
YOU ARE CRAZY, HOW MUCH RESEARCH, HOW MANY HOURS DEDICATED TO THIS PIECE OF ART AND INFORMATION !!!!! I love it, waiting for Trench, THANK U SO MUCH !!!!!!!!!
Tyler and Josh both grew up in Christian homes and were very sheltered. What started out as music for other confused Christian kids got shoved into the mainstream and that's where everything went sideways. People without a Christian background latched on to the dark parts and ignored the rest because they simply had no context for the lyrics. Fairly local is Romans 7:13-25. Without context, it got twisted. That's precisely why Tyler makes the same hand motion in Overcompensate. Fairly Local was the beginning of this beautiful nightmare. The nine bishops Clancy has been trying to kill are the top nine songs from Blurryface. Because they never corrected people's misconceptions, we have two church kids that have now created a cult. Expect a grand glorious gone in the spring of 2025. The storm that's sung about in Paladin is on the way. If you have a Christian/ theological background, Clancy is a confessional, a plea for forgiveness, and a story of redemption. Their Christian fan base has been waiting patiently for our boys (now grown men) to come home. The prodigal sons are done running. Goner is very special to me and can be found in Matthew 27:50 Jesus passionately cried out, took his last breath, and gave up his spirit. I absolutely cannot listen to Goner without ugly crying. Goner literally rips my heart out of my chest. The Clancy album is meant to be analyzed with the heart and not with the head. I'm excited for the chaos that's coming. Tyler has lived his spiritual wanderings in front of us in play by play fashion. TOPs discography is the story of his life hence, I am Clancy. It's been a wild "Ride". He's gone from taking his time on his ride to being short on time in Midwest Indigo. Things are coming full circle. Becoming a parent changes lots of things. Thanks for reading my 1:00 am ramblings. I'm a nurse with a terrible sleep schedule. Lots of time for Routines In The Night. God can be a harsh teacher at times, but he never lets his kids get too far out of hand before he stops us in our tracks. Pun intended. ❤
i watched the first part of this a couple days ago and now this and i gotta say like just having a video that's bringing the threads that i already kinda had in my head together is so helpful. so thank you very much, can't wait for the nest one
looking forward to your next video ❤ I’m digging the editing style and your delivery. Can’t imagine how long it took to pull everything together. ps. the Sally jumpcuts scared the crap outta me lmao
Good video spookibree long time no chat and yes I love twenty one pilots hopefully you can release the trench video soon and scaled and icy which was a least favorite record but I can't wait for Clancy to come out hopefully you do a review for Clancy this upcoming Friday hope you're doing well 😊
Wait all along I was waiting for you to explain where the name of each bishop comes from, being a relatively new clickie I still haven't got that part... Can someone please explain ?
I'm not exactly sure either, but I know they're in the song lyrics Edit: Did some research, and I believe this is how the bishops names were found. On dmaorg there's a violation code, 15398642_14. These numbers all match up to a song on Blurryface (ex. 1 being Heavydirty soul, 5 being Ride). There's 9 numbers and 9 circles on the Blurryface album cover. So each circle corresponds with a song. A map of Dema was found which had nine circles in the center. Each of these circles had the name of a bishop. If you rotate the map so East is Up (the hidden message on the dmaorg error page: you are in violation. thEy mustn't know you were here. no one should ever find out About this. you can never tell anyone about thiS -- for The sake of the others' survIval, you muSt keep this silent. we mUst keeP silent. no one can know. no one can know. no o ne c an kn ow_) and match it up with the Blurryface album cover, each bishop name matches with a song, and the name can be found in the lyrics. (ex. Keons lines up with the Hds circle, and the name can be found in the lyrics "choKE ON Smoke") Hope that helps!
i really felt personaly offended by the ohio remark and yes we do run into them at target......well my cousin ran into Josh at a metro mark walking...but still ohio is great (just for them tho every thing other then columus, westerville and grove city SUCK i would know) anyway i always love twenty one pilots because my sisters listened to them and i just grew up listening to them. but i am now 16 and I FINALLY KNOW WHAT THE SONGS MEAN i relate to them so much its crazy
Ey, so message man interpretation. I don't think it's something super crazy. Near the beginning he says, "I'm wanted and on the run So I'm taking this moment to live in the future" I think this encapsulates the song well. He is wanted or being hunted down by insecurities. Therefore he has to look to the future to hold out until the "morning" comes. "So your brain knows to keep going even though hope Is far from this moment but you would not know it" If I had to speculate, the message man is hope for the future. If you disregard the message man, you will end up in a "self unalive* session". This can be hard because the moment of insecurity is so overwhelming that believing the "message man" can be difficult. There are several references throughout the song that mention others like, "My people singing" or "they tried to suicidal session" or "hope you're dead cuz how could you sleep at a time like this". I think the song is Tyler warning others, telling them not to disregard hope aka the "message man". "Together we'll lose this, remember the future Remember that morning is when night is dead" The first line seems to recontextualize the begin as himself and others running away. They are trying to "lose" the self unalive session attempts. They do this by looking to the future. The morning seems to be similar themes to Vessel, so I won't be anymore redundant with that. On a final note, the "no, no, no, no, no Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah" seem to be the two halves, the present saying all is lost, and the future or the "message man" saying yeah, it'll be okay. Positivity vs negativity. I had to bring this up, because this is the song that first sucked me into TOP when I heard it and thought about what he was saying. The depth struck me, or at least what I perceive as depth here 🤷♂️😅
Okay, so after looking up a bit more. I think I missed part of the meaning. There's a lot of wild speculation on the internet about this song. My other comment seems to be getting half of the song, while the other half seems to be addressing people who are delving into the messages of his music in too deep of a manner or rather using it to read into him. It seems like the song is about the "message man" = hope for his fans and those who struggle. And the "message, man" which is about distorting his messages to be about something more complex. "You don't know my brain The way you know my name You don't know my heart The way you know my face" This part seems to be addressing people who interpret him as anything more than a man struggling like everyone else. "People they rhyme like this, we're all impressed by this They rip it, flip it but these are just triplets Wrote this in three minutes, three words to a line It's just poetry divided, I'm the kind of guy Who takes every moment, he knows he can fight it And music to use it, for others to use it" This seems to be focusing on those who analyze the music and lyrics, but Tyler is focused, again, on simply helping himself and others through tough times with the music. It's not about being impressive with the lines or lyrics necessarily. "Life is up here but you comment below When the comments will always become common motivation To promote you choose next episode" This portion seems to be highlighting the disconnect between Tyler and viewers who are just looking for more content and helping creators get promoted with more views. I really now can't get past the idea that this song is simultaneously aimed at two groups of people. Those struggling like him through mental health who need the message of hope to move on, and those sitting by the sidelines overcomplicating things. After all, the song is just about the message, man. 😂
Great video once again! I really loved how you transitioned into Lane Boy the same way the SAI Livestream Experience did! It gave me chills, just like it did in the livestream I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about my current favorite album, Trench (though there’s a very real possibility it will no longer be my favorite by the time the video releases) (Also I didn’t know you were a fellow SLC cliquie)
It's really hard to pinpoint message man, what it means in my head. I think you should view it as Message, Man with a comma. For me it's saying people that just listen to music for stimulation, not actually listening to the lyrics behind it, or put the lyrics somewhere in their bio not really questioning what they mean- yk that could hurt people that could- yk make other people think differently about you. It's basically just saying be careful with the messages that our songs give you, because at the end music isn't the same for everyone and not every song is interpreted the same way for everyone. Especially with Twenty one pilots some of the lyrics demand a lot of thinking about them, so on a surface level it could mean something entirely different that it could mean when you really dig into the lyrics. I don't think this is the best my words could explain the song but I can't think of anything else
that interception of dema genuinely scared me a bit lmao
My husband and I laugh to this day over "Bowl of Rice" meme EVERYTIME we hear polarize. Or have a bowl of rice. To this day.

Message man is about writing music with the kind of themes that Tyler writes about. The song makes more sense when you imagine a comma between message and man
"Please use discretion when you're messing with the message, man"

"the biggest, not popular band." That sends the nail straight through the 4 by 4
Message man, is about the spiritual nature of his music as a means for transformation.
The intro is chill inducing

An excellent part 2. I really like how you compile both the lyric interpretations, the real life events surrounding the band, and cool editing and visuals.

People saying their music is dangerous or bad because those people have misunderstood the songs’ meanings and purpose. “Only few understand.” That’s my perspective anyway.

great explanation for Message Man!

Blurryface is like that cringy annoying brother you hate but somehow still find joy in. 6/10
I'm hyped to see what you have to say about this album!

These lyrics aren't for everyone, only few understand ~
please use discretion when you're messing with the message man, i see as Clancy saying; don't come after me i'm just the message man, i'm not the one that you're after.'
and the lyric, these lyrics aren't for everyone only few understand, is kind of a double meaning for me, only few understand about how much Tyler's music is talking about mental health and only few can relate to the struggles of mental health.
and only few understand / know that there is a deeper meaning and story behind the music.
especially as the dema story line is becoming more set in stone in trench, becoming more publicly known that there's a story behind the music.

(ex. Keons lines up with the Hds circle, and the name can be found in the lyrics "choKE ON Smoke")
Hope that helps!
i really felt personaly offended by the ohio remark and yes we do run into them at target......well my cousin ran into Josh at a metro mark walking...but still ohio is great (just for them tho every thing other then columus, westerville and grove city SUCK i would know) anyway i always love twenty one pilots because my sisters listened to them and i just grew up listening to them. but i am now 16 and I FINALLY KNOW WHAT THE SONGS MEAN i relate to them so much its crazy
the NF reference (inset salute emoji i cant find it on pc lol)
yeehaw
Ey, so message man interpretation. I don't think it's something super crazy.
Near the beginning he says,
"I'm wanted and on the run
So I'm taking this moment to live in the future"
I think this encapsulates the song well. He is wanted or being hunted down by insecurities. Therefore he has to look to the future to hold out until the "morning" comes.
"So your brain knows to keep going even though hope
Is far from this moment but you would not know it"
If I had to speculate, the message man is hope for the future.
"Together we'll lose this, remember the future
Remember that morning is when night is dead"
The first line seems to recontextualize the begin as himself and others running away. They are trying to "lose" the self unalive session attempts. They do this by looking to the future. The morning seems to be similar themes to Vessel, so I won't be anymore redundant with that.
On a final note, the
"no, no, no, no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah"
seem to be the two halves, the present saying all is lost, and the future or the "message man" saying yeah, it'll be okay.
"You don't know my brain
The way you know my name
You don't know my heart
The way you know my face"
This part seems to be addressing people who interpret him as anything more than a man struggling like everyone else.
"People they rhyme like this, we're all impressed by this
They rip it, flip it but these are just triplets
Wrote this in three minutes, three words to a line
It's just poetry divided, I'm the kind of guy
Who takes every moment, he knows he can fight it
And music to use it, for others to use it"
This seems to be focusing on those who analyze the music and lyrics, but Tyler is focused, again, on simply helping himself and others through tough times with the music. It's not about being impressive with the lines or lyrics necessarily.
"Life is up here but you comment below
When the comments will always become common motivation
To promote you choose next episode"
This portion seems to be highlighting the disconnect between Tyler and viewers who are just looking for more content and helping creators get promoted with more views.
It gave me chills, just like it did in the livestream
I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about my current favorite album, Trench (though there’s a very real possibility it will no longer be my favorite by the time the video releases)
(Also I didn’t know you were a fellow SLC cliquie)
It's really hard to pinpoint message man, what it means in my head.
I think you should view it as Message, Man with a comma.
For me it's saying people that just listen to music for stimulation, not actually listening to the lyrics behind it, or put the lyrics somewhere in their bio not really questioning what they mean-
yk that could hurt people that could- yk make other people think differently about you.
YAYYYYY
...part 3???
