People dont seem to get the point of Scaled and Icy, it was meant to be less lyrically, but it's the hints in between the lyrics that set the narrative. Tyler is just good like that
@@CJPapan Paul only helped with Redecorate, which is, instrumentally, my favorite on the album. I think Tyler and Paul are a dream team... at least whatever they had going on with Trench was a masterpiece. I hope we get another Trench-like era because SAI wasn't really doing it for me... I mean aesthetically it was nice, but the music not so much.. 😔
Im a massive Paul Meany fan, and I just absolutely love how he is praising Tyler the whole time for his amazing lyrical talent, instead of making it all about himself. Hes such a humble guy. Love 21 Pilots, I Miss Mutemath 🥲
Please do more of these. Trench is the greatest album of all time, and I want to be a producer myself, so I love watching stuff like this. Every single song on trench deserves a breakdown lasting 5 hours each.
Brilliant. Had NO idea Paul worked on this record. But it makes perfect sense! MUTEMATH is one of my favorite bands and am so happy that Paul's genius is reaching even more ears :)
Ok can I just say... Can we get Paul & Tyler in this room!! Id love to see them hang out talk about the album.. Go over certain conversations they had discussing songs... 🙏😭 stories ect. Like how Paul does he.. But also with Tyler.... Damn!!!
That would be cool, huh?! I wish there was a Criterion Collection for music. I’m a big fan of Criterion , and they tend to offer up all kinds of behind the scenes , outtakes , etc.
Paul Meany is a phenomenal musician, vocalist, writer and producer and as soon as I heard this song I spotted his signature. At first I thought that someone who is a Mutemath fan "borrowed" a little bit for this song. This video finally revealed who is behind this production and I am very pleased!
I have no words for how much this delights and fascinates me. Thank you for using your talents to create such greatness and then taking us along for the ride. You and Tyler are both just SO talented and I hope you never stop collaborating. ❤️
This is what happens when two creatively genius, absolutely visionary artists and musicians come together. These two created this Trench utopia in which music, story, and emotion are being expressed like they never have before. Two of the most talented musicians and producers of our time in a room... get's us songs like Chlorine, Morph, Cut My Lip, Bandito, and Pet Cheetah. If we got Paul on the next TOP album, we're gonna have another album that leaves so many speechless.
ONCE YOU WATCH ANY BREAKDOWN OF A SONG AND THE PRODUCER PLAYED EVERY SINGLE AUDIO IN IT. YOU'LL HEAR THEM WHEN LISTENING TO THE ORIGINAL AGUDIO AND IT IS THE MOST MAGICAL THING❤️
a video like this, breaking down their songs, is something ive been wanting to see really badly since the making of vessel, when tyler quickly showed some demos. and to see it happening now ESPECIALLY with the making of trench, which is such an amazingly constructed album, just makes me so so so happy. this is like winning the lottery for my clikkie musician brain
Me, too. I’m a photographer, and now a first time filmmaker. I LOVE the production of Trench and now Clancy is INCREDIBLE. I’m a big fan of SAI, too, although I know Paul isn’t on that album. These videos are awesome
WOW! Love this breakdown of the production process on Chlorine, Paul! Had no idea. My fav song on Trench and that’s largely due to the Outro which still makes me cry. 🥹The honesty of Tyler talking directly to us (I believe) after the 1 year hiatus that followed the huge commercial success of Stressed Out catapulted TØP into the limelight. One of my fav all-time TØP lyrics: “I’ve been tested like the end of a weathered flag that’s by the sea” followed by the deep “can you build my house…” Just brilliant. Great production job, guys. I love it even more, knowing all that went into it 👏
I heard the new track Overcompensate and immediately knew this was a Paul Meany track. So fucking stoked to see what you bring to the new album. TOP fans don't know what you add to this band but I do and I respect the hell out of you for it. Thank you!
Just found this today - super cool to see the other people who played a part in these albums - I always get in my head about making my own music - thinking that I have to be good at every part of the process - but it’s cool to see the strengths and weaknesses and how openness to collaboration creates creative flow! Love it!
I always loved the percussion in this track and the bass. Really nice to see it all broken down. Thoroughly enjoyable watch. It's one of my all-time favourite tracks.
Trench is my favorite album of all time. I'm old and music is my life. Musically, lyrically, sonically, tone and vibe. Nothing compares to it to me. I have all the vinyl variants, signed CD's (would be cool to have your signature next to Tyler and Josh), the cassette...I'm legit with my love for Trench. I hope you are involved with whatever is next. I have a question Paul, are you still in Louisiana like me? I'd love to meet you, you made something that really impacted my life.
Ahhh... Now it makes sense why I missed the Trench era until much later.. 2018....That's the year I tried to go home but my flights all got cancelled. Actually one flight made it off the ground but the pilot turned the plane around and went back. I was taking a nap on that plane and woke up still in the same city. Imagine that....This song has always been close to my heart. Thanks man.
How cool to see and hear some of the pieces and parts that made up this song. I loved hearing all the layers broken down and then put back together. Absolute Audible Masterpiece!!
That was phenomenal! This not only makes me appreciate all the incredible work you, Tyler, and Josh are doing, but it also shows the world how much goes into making music. I don't think it gets recognized enough for the beautiful art you all create. Thank you!
I’m could listen ALL DAY, to the making of a T O P album. And watching Paul producing , reminds me of working with my editor making my first film last year ( we’re almost done with post ). It’s a similar vibe, but different , music to film, but you’ve got soundtrack, dialogue, and my favorite, building soundscapes . I grew up a huge Brian Eno fan, and love to see the behind the scenes of post in music and movies. Especially TOP’s music.
I don't know if you worked on the production of Earth Suit but growing up, I loved it! I felt the musicality and sound was ahead of its time. Felt the genius.
Seeing this is wonderful given that Trench in my favorite record ever, and I listened to a bunch of records. Great inspiration for young artists! Thanks Paul, you’re amazing!! ❤
This was amazing man. Thank you for sharing this. Absolutely loved Trench. You're right about Tyler.... God given artist. God gave him his talent....and gave us him.
Best song on the album for me personally. Pleasure to know the man that took part in making this masterpiece the way it represented. You are absolute legend for this
Trench is an amazing album, and this is coming from an old guy whose musical wheelhouse is solidly early 1980s. I don’t know what you call it, but that “piano breakdown” chord sequence in Bandito just grabs me by the throat every time.
Paul, this is fascinating. Trench is my all time favorite album, and I love learning about all the production that went into it. Please keep making these! I would love to have a series with every song getting its' own video.
This is an amazing orchestration of layers, incredible vocal constructs, and blending analog with digital sounds resulting in extraordinary artwork. Well done Paul and TWP!
Please work on their next project closing out the DEMA storyline. We need your fingerprints all over it! Edit: I KNEW those piano texture effects at 5:10 were your doing! That makes the song.
I absolutely love Kontakt Session Horns Pro. Solid shit right there, bro. I really appreciate every aspect of this song and everything you guys put into the backend of everything.
When I watched you with the TOP x MM session, you brought the unique dark vibes in the songs as well. Good to know that you collaborate with TOP with Trench. It will not gonna be perfect without you.
Absolutely LOVE these videos! Can’t wait to hear makings of Clancy someday! BIG fan from back in the Mutemath days and not surprised at all to find out that Paul Meany has a hand in the genius of twenty one pilots. Seriously a match made in heaven. Thank you for all of your amazing artistry!!!
That "sparkly" piano piece is probably my favourite aspect of this song.
same fo sho
We need Paul to come out on stage for this last album of the story. Bros the hidden SAUCE.
Omg, trench is such an incredibly album, we need you in the new one please

so true!

What a masterpiece this song is. Paul is really like the hidden 3rd member of this band, he influences their sound so much in the coolest way.
