The white thing you are talking about is called baking paper or parchment paper , i used it because my groundnut cake what very hot and if i put it directly on my work surface it will spoil my work surface because of the hotness but if your work surface can resist hot things like for example wooden work surface then you don't need baking paper, just pour it on your work surface and roll it out.
