What a lovely place to visit. Ryan does indeed have to work pretty hard raising the hook and having a powered windlass on the new boat would be a real Plus!
Hi guys... Have just binge watched all your videos, and In honest opinion you have one of the best sailing channels on RUclips , I've watched a number of them more than once, I'm from the UK Essex To be exact, you mentioned that you would be visiting Dragonera Island in the balerics, I visited there with my daughter when holidaying in mallorca and I know you'll love it, very pretty and was great to see all the wild lizards. When will you be moving on your new boat, if you haven't already? And when will we see videos of it? Love to you both tony
Thanks for a wonderful comment, Tony! We missed Dragonera Island, unfortunately. In real time, we just moved onto the new boat and are doing boat work on it. It’ll take a while for the videos to catch up. As we work for a living and not much sailing happens in the winter, we have to put the videos out with a delay.
@@SailingKittiwake aarr thats a shame if you get another chance to visit dragonera take it, you'll be glad you did. Really looking forward to seeing the new boat, in future episodes.all the very best Tony 😉 Tony
I love your videos. I was also the probably the one down vote on the premier issue. I live vicariously through you and Ryan, so having to wait for x amount of hours just sort of teases me. I'd live to live chat with you guys, but the reality is that we are on different parts of the planet. I'm hoping you're loving the new boat! Yay or Ryan standing up straight.
Maybe we didn’t explain it very well in the video... The gusts we encountered off those cliffs were so strong, we went from less than a knot to 6 knots on our little boat, which usually does 4. It would have needed to be at least 30 knots to give us such a speed in such little time. The gusts only lasted seconds at their full speed, they then slowed down and push us at 4-5 knots for a few minutes, to then disappear soon. If you ever sailed the Med, you’ll be familiar with this phenomenon 😊
San Antonio isnt all about drunk people it's a good idea to have a walk through its castle is ace and is steeped in history .love the videos. keep up the good video's
Looked like plenty of sea caves, and one High Up on the cliffs.. Makes me want to climb up or down to them and see what sort of archeaological Goodies one might find...
Look up katabatic wind, a feature of high ground effecting wind to increase strength using features that affect high density air. I experienced it in the gulf of cokertme, Turkey. We hired a Prout 33 “Two Steps” which went from 4 kts to 11 kts in seconds on a beam reach.
@@SailingKittiwake not at all,, thank you ( both ) so good to watch your vids, ( nothing personal against any one ) but i am so fed up with all the Lagoonesque vids which are coming out, seems like a new one every week , so many not to bother watching nowadays, a pleasure to watch your ones. Although ( as you know ) i was not one of those who recommended the new boat ( tho i can fully understand your reasons ) i am looking forward to seeing it and how you both get on with it...
oh and forgot to say,, very encouraging to see you managing without having to book into marinas all the time which is what i am always hearing ,, very encouraging !!
Thanks so much for your lovely words! We’re loving the new boat so far and can’t wait to show her on video. Yes, there’s lots of anchorages in the Med. If you can find a less crowded spot to wait out August, it’s totally fine 😊
Lots of pretty severely punished small-to-midrange electric windlasses around the Med in the yards and chandleries. Even more in ports from private, in France for example via "Le bon coin", don't know what that would be in Spain. Look up whether You get rebuilding kits for the one You'd like, and do rebuild one of the better You find: It is not very much work, by times You get even two identical ones, both inoperable for different reasons, for a (low) price, and while doing a rebuild sometimes does mean buying a tool or two, You will need said tool anyway some time into use. Emerald Steel has a very good video about their manual windlass and how Jules did a (hydraulic) motorisation. As mostly lying on roadsteads and in bights, You might have to improve what You got with her. I pretty much fancy the exercise-idea, but an anchor winch/windlass working flawless and fast is a safety feature. Sometimes it decides whether You can take the anchor with You or have to buoy it.
Cheers! It’s mainly Ryan who flies it. We both find it very hard to focus both on flying and coming up with shots at the same time, so one of us flies while the other “directs” + keeps an eye on gulls and obstacles. We find it works great 👍
Always good to hear what you’re currently doing and a little surprised you anchored in San Antonio bay, it’s my idea of hell. Far too over developed for my taste. Some good drone footage and happy dialogue. How’s the boat sale progressing? Thanks for sharing
Yep, it wasn’t our plan at all, but we needed a protected spot to do some work and buy a few groceries, and it was the closest place around that would offer that. Elena was happy to work while Ryan ventured on shore 😁 We sold Kittiwake a little over a month ago and we’ve been living on Skua (new name) since November. You should get on our Facebook/Instagram 😁 lots of live updates and pictures of the new boat on there 😉
Bwahaha! "Clubbing sh* t holes. Love this vid Kittiwake crew. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Thanks sooo much for not taking me shopping!! Good call. 😬Hope things are going well with the new boat. FW&FS⛵️

As on board since bloody two digits I dare to tell for once .... tempi passati, it got plenty crowded here lately 😂. Buon Natale, make merry and thanks for sharing.
Yes I did, following that is, assuming that's why You share in the first place. You were in my personal recommendations when I tried to check out another sailing-channel a friend pointed me towards ... the other channel was one of those with a lot of skin and booze and CAPITALS WITH EXCLAMATION MARKS GALORE !!!!!!!!! and generally lacking of ANYTHING to keep me there for more then a third into my first 10-minute click of theirs, despite being a straight and single bloke. 🙄 Thus, promptly I went astray in the RUclips rightside recommendations, it was still before Utup had committed their algorithm-destroying "optimization", so You could still have channels like Yours back then with 16 to 29 followers right beneath a quarter million bikini'n'booze channel video. I clicked, curiously, and subbed You about halfway through the first one I saw, before binging the rest - took not very long to binge though, yet 😂. So, You were actually an accidental find, to be honest, but a pretty lucky one for sure. And for the blushing ... I suppose it does improve the overall perfusion, so why not, now and then? ☺️
Haha! We had fish & chips twice this year, don’t worry 😊 It was an exception. We never had the spare money for a BBQ, but we think we may get one as a Christmas present this year 🤞
About so named haters or people who unlike before the video was sent. My interpretation is different. It gets modern to make such live sessions. But 1. its very time consuming, 2. the quality ist mostly not the best, 3. instead of a thematic well edited video content you‘ll get some talks. It‘s like Talk Shows in Television: production costs are cheaper. So - this is my view on the thing.
Hi Frank, this is not a “live talk show”. It’s a usual episode, filmed in May, edited in advance as usual, but being put live to premiere (same concept as a movie premiere) at a specific time, so we can live chat together under the video while you it premieres. Does that make sense?
Have you thought about the weight you are carring aboard? A cat needs to have light weight to per form, I know they have raced your same boat around the UK with some sucess, some not so much, but in a multihull weight is the opposite of speed, spend your money on lithium batteries and sails, sailing a small cat is a notch, sail catagory, one that you can, as experts, capitilize on, good luck,
We’ve been weight-obsessed indeed. We went for lots of light flexible solar panels, and only 2 batteries. We never carry more than 150L of water, total petrol on board is 45L, we have a cruising chute, no holding tank, we smoothed the hulls,... we cruise as light as we possibly can, but for the boat to go fast we’d need to not have ANYTHING on board, not even a mattress... we’re happy to put up with low speed, so we can have some comforts. HTs aren’t known for being fast at all (the opposite - everyone says it’s a very slow cat), especially this earlier model on which the nacelle touches the water, so we’re happy with how she performs.
You guys just get better and better, keep up the good work.
Thanks so much John! Hope you enjoy the channel 🤞
I like the idea of sharing a book. A sign of true compatibility.

You will have to use a preventer on the new boat in winds like that.
Sail to California, we have a cave on Santa Cruz Island that you can take your sailboat it

I hope the new boat has a windlass for Ryan’s sake.
