AST was my first healer. My character is strictly a healer main, but AST is their go-to job. This lore drop is incredible.
I remember that after finishing Astro and all job quests, it instilled me with a deep seated prejudice against Sharlayans (except the Scions) ... Playing Endwalker and walking the streets of Old Sharlayan, I was like "yeah, yeah, I know your backstabbing torturing and murdering ways, you dont fool me..." XD

I still haven't seen Mace (the old man you get your soul stone from) back in Old Sharalayan. They better have let him go!

outside sage being exactly what ive wantred in a healer(promotes being an aggressive attacker while at the same time healing allies and buffing them alot) astrologian is my favorite healer of the 3 we currently have
Tbh scholar's my favorite simply because of the nifty tricks it gets (nothing better than putting a crit galvanize on everyone with deployment tactics)
I also favour Scholar as my personal favourite group content class. I use Summoner for solo content. I’m a lvl 65 Smn/Sch just pre Stormblood, preparing to go beyond the Wall. I’ve levelled White Mage to lvl 70.
Never tried Astrologian yet but as a healer class it’s likely that one day far in the future after I’ve gotten Sch/Smn and Whm to max level I would start in on Ast and eventually even Sage.
Still great learning the lore of Ast though.

As an astro main, I absolutely love this video! Amazing recap of everything learnt about Astromancy! My favourite title to use as astrologian since the moment I got it has been "Shepherd Of The Stars", for obvious reasons
Mt favourite title is Echo of the Fallen Star because I thought of myself as a fallen star that hasn't give up yet; hence the echo is still ringing. I still can give my services despite my status 😆

And that covers the last of the (current) magic classes. Well, I suppose there's still a lesson for Blue Mage left. I'm waiting to see how you structure things for Dark Knight as I've been moving through that classes' story.
That's gonna be a fun one.
The lesson for Blue Mages: "So these swiving whoresons all learned a spell that actively kills them. It literally causes them to self-destruct, but they cast it anyway, because Eorzea is a land of great wonder and greater stupidity. Class dismissed, just thinking about Blue Mages makes me want to drink until I stop feeling feelings."

I love the watercolor thumbnails for each class, I hope you stick with that esthetic, it's very eyecatching and what made me click on this video. I don't even play AST! I don't know how much you can edit old uploads, but if you can I think it would be cool to go back and add the watercolor thumbnails to all the job lores you uploaded before you started using those. They're so cool! I hope you do bard lore soon, its my one true love!

I'll be honest, every time I hear this class's name, my mind immediately flashes back to Bravely Second and the muscular old man declaring, "...Bearer of the Astrologian Asterisk!"
Being a Nocturnal Astrologian main, learning about this lore is really interesting and fun! But simultaneously it stings extra hard to see Noct going away in Endwalker.
Being a Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te with an affinity for the Nocturnal Sect and going to the _Moon_ in Endwalker, it just hurts too much to see this change happen right now. It has also forced my hand to switch main for Endwalker, much to my dismay.
The ultimate sting actually comes when considering all this in light of the game's title... _Final_ Fantasy indeed :(

It's lovely to have a video on the classes, I try to remember what happens but it's hard because it takes a while to unlock especially when playing multiple classes so this is much appreciated thank you (and also important for endwalker since it's been said that there will be a conclusion)

So, a year later and I’m back. I took a couple hiatuses from FF14 so I’m not quite as far as I would be if I’d been playing continuously. As a result I’m lvl 73 Whm/Smn/Sch just about to start Shadowbringers. Or I will soon.
Curiosity got the better of me so I unlocked and tried Ast. Currently hard running through dungeons over and over and in a few days have pushed it from 30-45. Unsurprisingly I’m enjoying it very much. Then I remembered that I could get a clear and concise lore instruction by rewatching this video so here I am.
And thanks to this video, Astrologian has really struck a chord with me. The lore is awesome. Finally a job that doesn’t pull aether from the planet or has anything to do with primals. Who knows, if things continue well it might become my “main.” Though I’m not sure what that means because once I catch it up to lvl 73 (or maybe more by then) I’ll level it at the same rate as the others. But we’ll see.

@@SynodicScribe To be fair I didn’t expect you to actually read and answer a comment on a year old video, so a very welcome surprise.
Anyway I just figured that you might like to know that I still get use out of many of your videos semi frequently. When I want a quick refresher on the lore of this game you’ve covered, I come back to rewatch because there’s a lot of lore to remember!
And, as I progress further into the game I can come back to all the B rated episodes. I’ll get to them all eventually. I’m so intrigued by Shadowbringers, I have about a million questions.
At times, the stars are quite fickle beings if you ask me... (4 Ewers and 3 Spears in a draw and 6 redraws AFTER I already got a Lunar Seal)
Loved everything about this! I had no idea that Ast are originally a Sharlayan class. This makes me wonder though. Why do people associate AST with time powers? Every time I bring up Time Mage as healer or dps someone always says “not happening we have ast for that.” Now learning that the lore doesn’t even mention time manipulation at all makes me think Time Mage could definitely happen.
Originally Astrologian had spells and abilities that suggests time dilation. HOWEVER, those were steadily replaced or removed. It's strictly a celestial mage now. I honestly believe they worked all that out to give Time Mage room to breathe if they ever wanted to add it.
@@SynodicScribe It wouldn't be the first time a job got skills replaced to reappear later on in another class' skill set.
Heck, AST's Divination is going to be simplified to a cooldown and the actual Divination mechanics are moving to BRD's new skills in Endwalker, if I understood correctly.

This was a wonderful vid. I main heal Astro too, so this lore vid made me more proud to be an Astro. Now I just have to learn to "Balance" my Sage lust with my Astrologian lust :-P

For reasons I don’t have any kind of explanation for, I love healing in group content and my favourite job for that is Scholar. It’s a real blessing that it shares the Arcanist base exp tree with Sunmoner. That means I can easily do solo content as Smn but group with Sch. Both at lvl 65. I’ve also levelled Whm to lvl 70 and while I do enjoy it I prefer Sch.
But I also know that one day in the far future when Smn/Sch and Whm are maxed out, I’ll then turn my attention to Ast. I’ll probably enjoy it since I seem to be a born healer. And I know one day long after that I’ll do Sage.

A funny story is I never been one to play healers I think their job is very stressful and I can't handle it but I really enjoy playing AST. Its the only healing class that really clicked with me all the other healers I just couldn't handle personally not even WHM despite ppl saying its the easiest healing job. Plus the lore with them is just downright amazing

Another great lore video after came across this channel quite by accident a few days ago as I researched to find out why so many WoW refugees are moving to Eorzea.
I’m not binging but enjoying a video or two per day. The Scribe got my Sub and I comment a bit to help with the RUclips algorithm.
I especially enjoyed the Smn, Sch and Whm lore but given I intend to lvl Astrologan one day when Smn/Sch and Whm are maxed out. Then Sage after that.
Perhaps maybe Black and Red Mage one far distant day.

Amazing work! Explaining Astrologian is sometimes difficult, mainly due to a common misconception where people believe that you heal allies by reversing time (making it so you never took damage as if using time travel), a result from misinterpreting that one job quest and its prior time mage inspired spells.
Also, something I noticed that got me curious - you mentioned aspects from the HW 50-60 job quests, such as the Sharlayan zealots, but not Geomancer from the Stormblood job quests. Is this because you plan to cover Geomancer separately? It's kind of a strange one because it does have some ties to Sharlayan astrology as we explore in the SB job quests, but it's still very much its own thing (even the lorebook outright says its a mix of conjury and astrology with a far eastern theme), so it's like... "do I cover this or not?" haha
Between Swallow's Compass, lorebook Vol 2 and of course the AST job quests, I reckon there's plenty enough lore to cover Geomancer as its own video, so it's not a loss, I was just curious :P
The Stormblood quest did romanticize the unity of magic from the Earth and Heavens, yes. But aside from being used to create a stronger Geomancer barrier by introducing a 4th element, the schools of Geomancy and Astromancy don't have a shared history and would be considered two different schools of magic. I could try to cover Geomancy in another lesson but it wouldn't be much compared to Astro.

Tbh I've always interpreted diurnal sect as "undo" (think geist's power from bravely second but applied for healing) and noct shields as a protective version of "stop"

I gotta get back into AST. The one complaint I have about Endwalker is how the changed it (and Monk) up like they did, and now out of practice with it terribly.
I'm really curious where do you get your information from? All the information is so scattered from my perspective and I'd really love to know where you make such cohesive videos from.

The gross majority of my data comes from the game itself as well as Encyclopedia Eorzea Volume I&II. I never use wiki stuff, that's where the miss information goes to die. >.>

I’m really enjoying being a Mage in FF14, in particular Sunmoner during solo content and Scholar during group content. Both are lvl 65 and my Whm is lvl 70.
I fully intend to do Ast and Sage eventually once Smn/Sch and Whm are max level.
I also intend to max out the Land jobs and two of my Hand classes.
After that if the game is still running by then I’ll probably start in on Black and Red Mage. I like the idea of eventually becoming a master of magic.
Makes me curious if The Twelve are involved in the ASTs powers somehow, or if it's Dynamis at play of various worlds with lingering Dynamis to tap into, for what is prayer? Emotions poured into a wish

As fun as AST can be, I don't like the idea of taking it into serious content if MINE. I hate the idea of being required to use Lightspeed to have enough ogcd windows to card 3 people "the right way" in the opener. I hope the AST rework would allow me to save Lightspeed for utility instead... and maybe bring back nocturnal sect, too.

I can do a case study for sure, but an in depth lore analysis will take more than the job quest information.
Will you have to make changes to Astrologian for Endwalker’s changes by much? Also do you think the potency of Astrology increases being off planet? Like say on the moon?
Thankfully the core of Astrologian isn't changing so the lore behind them is still 100% intact. As cool as that sounds, being on the moon isn't much closer to the stars in the grand scheme of things, but who knows!
