Just an FYI, some of those mowers have a PIP (recall) out for the starters failing. If I remember right it was on the Kawasaki engines. Also, there’s a PIP out for the ignition switches. Could be worth looking into to see if your mower is covered
That is a thermal over load that kicks off in the battery charger. After it cools off it will come back on.It keeps the charger from overheating and burning out the transformer.
Howdy Zack, I made my own tire pressure gauge many a year ago. I took a air tire chuck (w/male threads) added a coupler and bought a really nice gauge (back 50 years ago only about $10). I never bought a tire gauge again and I still use the original one I put together. I just put one small drop of 3 in I oil in it before and after every use and store it upright so it doesn't pool in the gauge. I have made several more since then, but they are probably all in storage waiting for their next owner. And I've noticed that you have, batteries going dead problem around the Farm. I have read on the power of the pyramid, though I've never took the time to look into it because I never had a problem with dead batteries. Have Jim weld up some 1/8" common steel into Pyramids (or just one to try) and place them on top of the battery. I forget what the ratio is between base and height (or degree of slop on the sides. Have to look that up, just check out the big 3 in Egypt. Not saying this will solve your problem because I have never done it, but it certainly is worth looking into. You must sit on a Strong N/S Magnetic Line for your batteries to drain in just a few days. A Pyramid might be the answer. Thanks for sharing your life. You have way more guts than I! But who wants to watch an old cripple man sitting at a computer 1/2 his waking hours? My Doing Days have passed and I'm retired just trying to enjoy my painfully Golden Years. Hope you will try the ideas, especially the tire gauge. I'm sure it will be worth your time.
You probably already know this, but if you leave that mower a few more weeks, you can pick it up without having the move the snow first. Just saying...
Great acting, "Zach"! Your writers sure seem to have a firm grasp on realism, because everything they put in your sitcom seems to happen in real life on many many farms here as well! Bravo to all of you! Including Anna & her trainer😉
A recommendation... Use the "over/under" technique when coiling hoses (air, garden, etc.) or extension cords. This prevents all those looping kinks in the hose or extension cord when you pull it out for use.
When I was doing stagehand type work..I learned this quickly. Its not intuitive and not easy to teach but is the only way to coil cable and hose imo. I've wrapped literally miles of cable this way.
Awesome stuff with the lawnmower and skid steer! All of this content over a lawnmower sitting outside for a winter. Very funny. You and Mr. Tillage on same page. Love it. Keep up the great content Zach. Always interesting to see how your farm operates. John from South Dakota.
Hey Zach, mechanic here. Your Peter coolant sensor on the bottom of the burp tank is likely on the fritz, which is likely why your truck keeps telling you to stop the engine. Sometimes you can clean them with electric parts cleaner. Otherwise they are fairly cheap, but to replace you'll want to drain the coolant first... unless you can move quick to switch those sensors. 13 gallons is usual with that engine if I recall correctly. As far as 99% of your stuff dying all the time, might be due to the private radios not being cut off from power supply when the truck is off. A simple toggle switch hooked into the supply line at the back of the radio should do the trick. Also one other recommendation, weld some wingnuts to the top of the bolts on the battery box. Helps tremendously if you dont have an impact.
Wouldn't be a terrible idea to have a Positive lug on the frame rail either. We have that on our freightliners, granted them KWs may not have room for that. Same with the Pete.
Zack I just laugh now. Watched your channel for years, then seen your TikTok’s, now back to the channel. So funny. Keep up the good videos between both. They all show a different side and are good for a chuckle. Farmer from central Alberta Canada 👍
I tell children's stories at my church, one of those stories applies to your mower. Guy is walking along the beach after a storm and the beach is littered with starfish who will die if they don't get back into the water. So he's walking and throwing starfish back in the ocean. A kid questions him "what's the point? you can't save them all" the guy said "yes, but it matters to the ones I do".... I think your mower is already dead :) though you should, probably, save the battery.
Identifying something that may become a fire hazard /hazerd is the difference between a good worker/boss and a bad one Wish more people will think like that and work to that principle
Sadly - identifying it to then walk away (originally to go to another shed to get another charger) isn't all that sensible really - as the "fire hazard he talks of" could start as soon as you are gone - which is sad - as we get to see him ONLY disconnect it - as he has another (bigger charger) there beside him - thus surely he wasn't worried about a possible "fire" beside those fuel tanks on the truck eh by leaving the faulty charger connected.?
If you need an outside battery charger, you could make one with a pressure washer engine, and a 24v alternator. Some used on JD are not too expensive. The nice thing is that when it runs out of gas, it stops, and you can't overcharge the batteries. This could be a good thing to use if you have trouble with starting equipment in the field.
just found your channel. I'm up here in Alberta Canada so the whole 'mower left in the snow' thing is not really a big deal here but I have to admit that was funny to watch. I always enjoy seeing different farming operations and I am impressed by your set up.
2021 drought in western Canada, grain production was cut in half, our feedlots are buying a lot more corn from USA sources. Could be why you are hauling more corn right now.
There was a serious drought in several U.S. states as well... Mt, Wyo, N Dakota , S Dakota , Nebraska , just to name a few.. I live in Tx , which is also several inches shy of rainfall... But, Iowa , Mn , had areas of great crops.. Which includes the Johnson farm.
Hey Zach. I would strongly recommend a extended hose air chuck that clips on to the valve stem. Refilling air (especially on a tire that has been ran low at all) can be a good way to do permanent damage to your ears. Sidewall gets weak from running low and they cant hold the new pressure and go kaboom. Don't ask me how I know. But i now have an air chuck with a 10' extension hose.
For a non-farmer city boy like me that little bit of insight into the financials of farming I found kind of fascinating. I know it’s not as appealing from a video perspective but I think other non-farmers might be interested in hearing a little more about that aspect of farming life that has to be at least as important to the farmer as the agricultural aspect. Great videos as usual and I’m sure the lawnmower actually appreciated that blanket of snow insulating it and keeping it warm. 😉
Have you tried gator caps on your valve stems plus you can get a cover for part of your air gage that holds the slide part .a air gage will get damaged easily by dropping thrown etc...
@@MillennialFarmer doing it for the video takes on new meaning with all the porn spam that seems to be popping up in your video comments the last week or two.
I think "MowerGate" is a great chance to create a line of photographic art - "Minnesota Winter Photography by the actor whom plays the Millennial Farmer" - I also believe it would be a cool collector tshirt - no make that hoodie for the colder weather. Living in a colder climate it has been my experience that stuff breaks/doesn't want to run, usually right before a big snow storm - it is simply Murphy's Law, Corollary 1.2 and I quote: "If you are attempting to get all your equipment into storage before a storm of any kind, at least 1 piece of equipment will not cooperate". In all seriousness, many could learn from your attention to the servicing your equipment. Checking oil, tire pressures and "walk arounds" are not the most glamorous or fun jobs on the farm, but they keep your investments safe. Always enjoy your content!!
Always good to help the neighbors. Great camera angles and moving the ztrac was classic “gettteerrrrrr done”. I think there was a JD corn head sitting in the snow in one of the shots.
Being a mechanic all my life I will tell you that when you are all concerned about power washing your equipment and trucks you really need to blast off the batteries. The dirt on batteries draws voltage out of them. Connect the positive on your multimeter to the battery and drag the negative across the top of battery and you will see for your self. No charge for the lesson this time Zach.
I live in a farm community in southern Ontario Canada Eh? If you ate today thank a farmer. If you ate in piece thank a vet. I am totally addicted to your videos. Thanks
Zach when you were communicating to Jim about moving the truck while loading the corn, have you thought about installing a Simply-Safe camera to view the yard and grain boom. Then you would save yourself the time and exposure up on the grain bin. You could be in a warm truck. Just a passing thought I had.
Zach - Have people really been giving you that much shit over what you do with your own equiptment!?!?! Thats absurd. ( As far as the mower or mini rzr being left outsite )
Had a 1998 VW who always complained about missing antifreeze when it dropped to below -20 celsius (Thats -4 in freedom units). Think basically the sensor froze and when everything heated up it went away. Never used a drop of antifreeze in my time.
My last dog would catch mice under the snow, this one not so much. The cat even brings them in and gives them to him. The funniest thing was the cat brought him a tiny duckling I think because the dog loves squeaky toys. I spent all day looking for a duck family to return him to --- Every spring there are quite a few cheap mowers that were hit by snowplows. I don’t know who the idiots are, the mower owners or the plow drivers, although often they are the same.
I don't let my cats outside for that reason. I also don't want to see them hurt animals in their hunting endeavors. Cats are a non-native invasive species, and should not be allowed to roam the block.
Ohio turnpike hat a bunch of cars damaged by a snow plow driving too fast, causing windshields to collapse, and injure the occupants. The turnpike authority and the state police are investigating the employee worked there for 6 years.
@@Farm_fab the duck wasn’t even slightly injured, and the cat doesn’t injure what he catches in general, I have to deal with the mice when the cat catches them. He does fish though, and eat them.
@@Farm_fab I did see that video. The plow driver was going way to fast as I think even stopped cars would have been damaged. What I was talking about was people plowing driveways and actually crashing into mowers parked in locations that were a poor choice.

Yeah I was one of the ones that thought who fucking cares about an old mower when you have a couple million worth of real machinery to watch after people get hung up on some of the dumbest things
As a groundskeeper, watching a skidloader pick up a snow covered $10k zero turn mower is absurdly hilarious to me. Probably because if it had been me, I'd have been fired. But hilarious to watch others do it, nonetheless.
Most of those older manual battery chargers have an auto-resetting bimetallic strip circuit breaker inside, which protects them from outputting excessive current and causing internal charger damage. So if you hear a "click" and see the amp gauge go to zero, this is the circuit breaker tripping. After cooling down for a few minutes, it will reclose. If the demand of the dead batteries (three completely-dead group 31 batteries in parallel will easily try to suck 100+ amps from the charger) continues to exceed the charger's output capability, it will sit there and cycle on/off indefinitely until it is disconnected or the battery state of charge increases to the point that the charge current decreases. I'm personally a really big fan of having permanently-installed on-board charger/maintainer units with an AC power cord sticking out somewhere. Then a hanging sign on the steering wheel which says "UNPLUG CHARGER" (or on cars/trucks, I will wrap the extension cord around the driver's side mirror to remind me to unplug it).

Have you considered trying visual valve caps? They are @$9 each. You buy the PSI rating you want. It’s green at correct pressure, red @10% below that. At a glance you see which tire needs air. Just an FYI, some of those mowers have a PIP (recall) out for the starters failing. If I remember right it was on the Kawasaki engines. Also, there’s a PIP out for the ignition switches. Could be worth looking into to see if your mower is covered
That thumbnail had me stressin 😂
Same 😁😁😁😁
That is a thermal over load that kicks off in the battery charger. After it cools off it will come back on.It keeps the charger from overheating and burning out the transformer.
I’ve been hoping that one of these times your “hey you okay?” turns into a oh hell! Hops up and runs off haha
Lol
Thanks MFer and Mrs MFer for the video. Hope all is well.
Thanks Zach. I was having trouble getting to sleep at night with that poor lawnmower on my mind.
Howdy Zack,
I made my own tire pressure gauge many a year ago.
Howdy, Johk.
Finally I can get some sleep not having to worry about that mower for the last couple months.
My god, its about time you brought that mower in!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for keeping the videos coming.
You probably already know this, but if you leave that mower a few more weeks, you can pick it up without having the move the snow first. Just saying...
Awesome Video and Much Love as Always!!!
How dare you treat your equipment that you paid for with your own money in a manner that the Internet ppl say not to lol
I love your podcast and forgot how much I love your videos! Thank you for all you do
i had a tire gauge that looks like that, it grew legs so i replaced it with a digital one.
Great acting, "Zach"! Your writers sure seem to have a firm grasp on realism, because everything they put in your sitcom seems to happen in real life on many many farms here as well! Bravo to all of you! Including Anna & her trainer😉
Your videos never disappoint
That was really great loved it can't wait for next one thank you for sharing and your time was really great loved it. Never miss a video.
Are you out mowing the lawn early or late in the season, I'm confused 😕
After seeing the picture on facebook, I was sooo looking forward to this episode.
And the lawnmower operation had me literally laughing out loud :-)
A recommendation... Use the "over/under" technique when coiling hoses (air, garden, etc.) or extension cords. This prevents all those looping kinks in the hose or extension cord when you pull it out for use.
Beat me to the punch. I 2nd this comment.
SHEESH
The sensors in these modern trucks are actually set to go off after minimal loss. It's very annoying.
Wouldn't be a terrible idea to have a Positive lug on the frame rail either. We have that on our freightliners, granted them KWs may not have room for that. Same with the Pete.
@Plyst3 that Pete should already have the jump posts on it. Most trucks come with them now

Glad you're feeling better Zach, love you're died animal jokes.
One of the best videos yet! Love the humor!
The battery was all ready dead with his luck with batteries.
Identifying something that may become a fire hazard /hazerd is the difference between a good worker/boss and a bad one
Wish more people will think like that and work to that principle
This how people here dry camp. You have to have the alternator converted to charge more then 5 amps. Like 40 amp charger
just found your channel.
It's Zach

Trickle chargers need to be in the budget 🤣
That ice cube of a lawn mower killed me when you finally got it out of the bank haha
Should put some battery tenders on the trucks when your parking them
No kidding. Should be a channel sponsor.
Always good to help the neighbors. Great camera angles and moving the ztrac was classic “gettteerrrrrr done”. I think there was a JD corn head sitting in the snow in one of the shots.
Man, I get so excited when I see a new video up!
Interesting: thanks for the info

Zach when you were communicating to Jim about moving the truck while loading the corn, have you thought about installing a Simply-Safe camera to view the yard and grain boom. Then you would save yourself the time and exposure up on the grain bin. You could be in a warm truck. Just a passing thought I had.

I spent all day looking for a duck family to return him to
---
Every spring there are quite a few cheap mowers that were hit by snowplows.
You need a master pressure gauge mounted to the shop wall to check the tire gauges and so you can adjust them if you unscrew them in the middle on top of the read out part is a screw to adjust them
Yeah I was one of the ones that thought who fucking cares about an old mower when you have a couple million worth of real machinery to watch after people get hung up on some of the dumbest things
Look into"cats eye" visual on the tire gauge. Two hoses go from valve stems to clear window . If low,a solid black bar is visable.
As a groundskeeper, watching a skidloader pick up a snow covered $10k zero turn mower is absurdly hilarious to me. Probably because if it had been me, I'd have been fired. But hilarious to watch others do it, nonetheless.

1:00 I SENT THE TIRE GUAGE ! Your very welcome; may it outlast your expectations !
@Martin Malone no you didn't I did
Well deserved hot tub break. Thanks for all your hard work.
Trolls are non -mature baby grown-ups, who cannot accept being an adult and continue to act as children, so this is where the trolls operate, they are/ should be ignored/deleted/blocked, and not allowed to be recognized as anything that could be recognized as anything that deserves attention, and eventually will fade away, just like old animal waste, RIGHT ON ZACH!

Mower……. Are you ookkay?
Have you considered trying visual valve caps? They are @$9 each. You buy the PSI rating you want. It’s green at correct pressure, red @10% below that. At a glance you see which tire needs air. I bounce with a pipe on truck, so it’s not worth it to me.
See if a remote tire pressure monitor will reach from trailer to truck. Maybe a sponsor will donate one to evaluate. BTW Corn hit at least $6.22 in Glenwood I hear.
Feeding the algorithm, cheering on Let’s go Brandon!
