- Learn how to make an 8 sided octagonal origami gift box. Both the lid and box are made with 1 sheet of paper, no glue required. Many variations of the lid design are possible.
This is the 8 sided version of the previous hexagonal origami box ( • Origami Hexagonal Gift... ).
This octagonal box is what I based the origami poke ball box on ( • Origami Pokeball Box T... ).
I made a lot more versions of the lid design but whilst experimenting, has ruined quite a few.. there are so many thing you could do with it. I put a photo of the ones I like right at the end of this video.

You Will Need

1 sheet of paper each for the box and lid
Paper used: A4 - 29.7 x 21 cm
Final model size: 8.5 x 8.5 x 3+ cm
If your paper is thick you'll need to make the paper you use for the lower box a little shorter, 1 cm is what I took off. You can also just fold this over instead of cutting, which would actually make the raw edge of the side nice too.
The height of the box can be decided whilst folding.
Scoring tool used: amzn.to/2Rs16Vu
Paper used: Cannot find online, described as 'metallic pearlized embossed paper'.

I can't figure out the fold at 6:37, and also the fold directly after. Also, it looks like she's using thicker paper. I'm using origami paper cut down to proportions I've calculated so maybe that's causing problems? 😵💫

I can't get the lid to close
I do not divide nine parts equal to 0:59 because each paper will have a different length and width. I just need to share nine of them equally.

I have a book by her called “Origami Box” the American version and there is an octagon box model that has smaller boxes inside that divide it into little compartments but there is no instructions on how to make the smaller boxes and what size paper, could you help me out?

These complaints of the lid don't fit. So make your bottom box measurement a milametre smaller each panel and cut off the essence.

Tutorial is very hard to follow along with, and the dividing into 9 parts thing is very unclear. Very frustrating.

So what I'm suppose to guess how far to fold it? I noticed you magically have a mark on the paper and you expect us to figure it out?
