Destiny 2 Lore - The Exo Stranger just found out about Eris... And she is pissed!

- Destiny 2's Lore and Story from the Season of the Witch shows us The Exo Stranger's reaction to Eris Morn's ascension into a Hive God. Elsie Bray is needless to say, not pleased. She has seen the chaos that can be unleashed by Eris thanks to the Dark Future timeline. She does not trust Eris in her ascension and has made her opinion clear to Ikora. She resents that she had to kill her own corrupted sister because of a different Eris...

So i think that Eris saying that she isn't alone is a reference to the Dark Future timeline. Eris was alone in that. She didn't have the same support in that timeline as she does now. She's not alone, and it's the people around her that will keep her grounded.
I have faith in Eris.
Rat X Moondust
@@crowstray Shipping characters is something lonely people do.
No eris in marketing, she’s gonna bite the big one in an incredibly disappointing way just like the last few characters they’ve killed off so poorly
True, she has friends, but Eris can and will most likely fall into corruption.
In short -
1. We already know at this point (not counting lore tabs) that we not only have understanding, also discipline. Darkness itself maybe influential, but it can be resisted.
2. It comes down to state of mind and ones personal desires.(plenty of examples)
All I'm saying that even though I'd trust Eris's judgement and her character, I couldn't trust her enough knowing her desire for vengeance and wielding the power that can alter the users mind will instantly spell doom for us all should she lose focus. Plus we all still don't know the extent of darkness, and I feel there is something Savathun has planned or at least counting on in all of this. Better to be cautious.
@thesavagegummybear7341 I feel like Eris will become powerful enough to in fact, take Oryx's place. But with that power she'll bring Savathun to heel, and contend with Xivu, taking herself out and both of them. Claiming vengeance on the Hive for the final time by finally wiping them from existence.
If she does die, I feel like she's gonna do the hive what they've done to countless species for centuries if not millenia.
Must be so heartbreaking for Elsie she seemed to had a sense of relief that the dark future was averted and the cycle broken but then this happens. Hopefully Eris can overcome temptation in this timeline.
the trick is drifter will only give kisses if she isnt a hive god
thats good incentive to resist temptation
@@__g__1400Drifter would still do a hive god let’s be honest here
Maybe she'd have taken it better if she had more of a personality imo
@@idarkstarx6939 hope she gets a good story arc soon to better characterize her. season of the seraph did a lot for her sister and rasputin - she needs that kind of story treatment too!
theres was radio msg in seraph season where elsie said shes scared bc this timeline is different than the rest she been thru & doesnt know when the end will be to dip back in time again & i cried for her
Here's another thing: Drifter is still alive in this timeline. In the Dark Timeline, Elsie and Ana find him lying dead on the ground after trying to put his consciousness inside an Exo body. But in our timeline, he's one of Eris' closest and most trusted friends. I doubt Eris will fall to corruption with him still around.
I must’ve skipped through bits of the Dark Future lore book a little less than three years ago because I didn’t recall Drifter dying after attempting an Exomind transfer, means that what Eris said is true, she is not alone, has Drifter, Ikora, and us to rely on for support.
Unless she kills him.... plot twist... Eris is not only a hive God but a necrophiliac hive God.... them wurm gods be into some kinky shit😅
@@sn0wyc0sm0 it's implied that's how he died, but not outright stated. Elsie and Ana find him dead on a console in the deep stone crypt.

@@zigzag2370you weird bruh
Ofc she is. This is all to familiar to her in multiple timelines
What if Elsie is actually the sister who went evil.. 😬..
@@andrizzle5887 then why would she be jumping through timelines when “evil” already won?
@@heerosagayuy2143 Evil comes in different shapes and forms.. there may even be a “formless one”🥱. The same way Savathun is our friend and enemy at the same time, cunning into being the lead faction. Elsie could also share an enemy with us in the shape of the Winnower or something greater. This happens in storylines all the time where the enemy of our enemy becomes our friend.. then when it’s all said and done we still have to fight that temporary friend. It’s just a thought though. Like a what if scenario. Just what if Elsie turned dark on an intelligent lowkey power trip. She could tell us ANYTHING she wanted because we never witnessed her dark future. I think it’s a possibility Elsie is flipping the story to fit a narrative that benefits her. But if not.. I’ll gladly say it was an incorrect thought when proven.
Edit: Maybe Elsie has been loosing to the actual big bad and wants to find a timeline where the guardians actually win instead. After we win and celebrate she could somehow sweep the guardians maybe those old Warmind leaks about exo frames come true and she takes Clovis’s plans of being an all powerful being. I see a new enemies on the horizon after we win this ancient Light & Darkness battle. Eris will probably be consumed by hive rituals.. Elsie is probably a snake and will use some of Clovis’s plan to take over.. Drifter still has his secrets and is a dangerous light-bearer. He’ll most likely figure out how to become the Taken King & will get back in touch with other Rouge Light-bearers

First thing that came to my mind when Eris went full hive god was how Elsie must be having full on PTSD flashbacks to the Dark Timeline rn. I have faith in eris this time around though. She's learned so much, and learning about Brya and her faith in eris to me speaks to her ability to survive and overcome.
Love how Elsie tackled Ikora like she couldn’t summon a black hole at will
As strong as ikora is Elise bray has stood against litteral apocalypse level end game things in multiple time lines over and over and over
Tbh it's pretty clear that if her dark and ikora's light came to clash Elise has litteral lifetimes of experience over ikora plus she KNOWS more than ikora which in itself is impressive
Elise would likely low diff ikora and most other guardians
@@codylucynki1279 Hard disagree, Elsie's a badass, true, but Ikora is, hands down, the strongest guardian we currently know of, iirc. She stomped Shaxx in the crucible, that's no mean feat.

I hope we get a Cutscene of Elsie yelling at Eris
And our Guardian just hugs her
Cause God does she need one
Both do
as much as i hate it when our guardian talks (i prefer the character im roleplaying as to be mute, because IM the only one that gets to talk for him), i do like the physical actions that our guardian makes in cutscenes, such as when Gaul took our light and our ghost was the first thing our guardian reached for, or when we tried to (goofily) push our way back through the vex portal on mercury after losing Sagira and being ejected from the infinite forest. The silent actions of our guardian are super wholesome and relatable and I would love to see our guardian embrace a character (especially Eris) for comfort.
After killing the Witness, the Guardian hugs Eris.
The Drifter walks in & both the Guardian & Eris have the deer in headlights look.
Drifter hits the Guardian with a Blade Barrage.
Eris transforms into a bug god & eats Drifter.
The Guardian & Eris become evil.
Destiny 3 begins.
@@KermitOfWarthe most unrealistic thing in here was Drifter doing a blade barrage hahahahah homie lost his light eons ago. Edit. Got it wrong, thought he lost his ghost but nope.
@@fishnutz5196 did he? I thought he still had his ghost, but is super spiteful towards it for having him starve to death over and over again. Maybe modifying his ghost lost him his light, but I figured that so long as his ghost is around he still has a connection to the traveler. And I also figured that he hides his ghost really well because of how distrustful he is if everyone. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’d love to see Drifter whip out a golden gun or something and just execute our guardian out of jealousy lol
Dark Future is definitely the best peace of lore bungie made. I hop we get this story in some other media. Maybe as an episode of a Destiny TV Show like love, death and robots. This would fit perfectly for Destinys lore.
tragic as it is, I will say the writing is a lot better than the current timeline
@@Mudmoto_Marine much better. There were actual stakes and uncertainty in that lore.
Simply put, I note that I think ERIS has taken into account the dark future timelines more than even Ikora here.
Let's say she gets corrupted by the power in this timeline. What can she do with it, about it?
One, she's the god of VENGEANCE. Thus meaning, she derives her power, her strength, her abilities from vengeance. She wouldn't be able to do anything against US without a reason to be vengeful.
Two, she's directly tied to us. We stop tithing, she becomes vulnerable, she becomes vulnerable, and we can stop her.
Eris has set her up with a very clear and reasonable contingency plan that we can exploit if things go wrong here. That's why I have full trust in Eris on this. And honestly, may be what Elsie needs to realize beyond the fact that Eris isn't alone.
She could find a way to justify getting vengeance on the vanguard for sending her fireteam to die in the pit and for never saving her from the fate she met.
Kill people we are close to then proceed to gain power from us being vengeful.
This SHOULDVE been a cutscene. So many good character interactions happening in Lorebooks. Bungie CAN write story so why the hell did we get Lightfall?
Because we needed Strand and it wasn't ready in time for Witch Queen.
So incredibly frustrating. I really wish they'd stop putting the good lore in exotic flavor text and ACTUALLY make the cutscenes that they know would absolutely bang
@@Dr._Elysium295 Blackburn denied those rumours btw.
@@My0ldFr13nd hes under no obligation to be honest with us. Theres so many obvious things that point to strand being meant for WQ:
when savathun immobilizes us in the starting mission, we have a status effect called *threadbound*.
The traveler once captured in the throne world is covered in threads.
To hurt savathun we need a buff called threadcutter in her final fight.
The verticality of witch queen is perfect for strand. Consider how many sheer walls we need to scale with deepsight spawning platforms for us to climb onto. Theres so much platforming in WQ that clearly was meant for strand. The caves and temple to savathun beneath the swamp, the citadel, rhulks pyramid...
@@everythingsalright1121 Wasn't threadcutter something we needed to fight the Vex in the Vidmaster season (can't remember the season just the seal lol)?
The most important person in all of this is Germaine (Drifter) the fact that he trust "Moondust" means so much to her, and she is not going to fracture that trust. For the first time since the hive tears rolled down her face in the hellmouth, Eris believes that she could have a future despite her past. Happiness is worth more to her than this Dark Temptation. Byf could you please do Ikora Rey's story (a deep dive) superb work as always!
Honestly I think eris is going to be ok judging from the fact that her npc is still on the moon and that in the seasonal banner art she has a visage of her hive self just chilling over her shoulder.
It can either be Chilling or "looming" over her menacingly.
I can't help but feel as if this will come into play at season's end. I'mma just put my theory here real quick. Come seasons end, Eris will commune with the war counsel from her place in the helm. From which she expresses her growth in power may yet rival the war god, or even "bring the witch queen herself to heel!" During this time, Elsie teleports in, arriving in front of Eris with a weapon drawn. At this moment it is made clear she's taking matters into her own hands, anything to stop the dark future. At the same time, Ana (or maybe the drifter) arrive, having a hunch Elsie may try to pull this stunt. Some deliberation happens but it's clear Elsie's mind is made up. Yet as she goes to end Eris, Ana (or the drifter) step in, taking the shot for Eris. At this moment Elsie's will shatters, as she's forced to either relieve the murder of her sister (or the death of a trusted ally). However, this time is different, as Ana's ghost Jinju appears and proceeds to bring Ana back. It's at this point that it gets through to Elsie finally, that this timeline is different. And she stands down to allow Eris to Ascend further, now trusting in her ally, and the fact that she is, "not alone."
Eris has more to live for in this timeline than the Dark Future: the Vanguard's support, our friendship, drifter's stories, Hawaiian pizza, Mara's long-term plans...
I just wanna say that lore entry was fire. The dialogue was written very well. Like the line “and her voice was ice”
That said, Eris relies on our tithes, the moment we stop tithing to her, she becomes vulnerable like oryx if she does turn. By binding herself to us, she leaves a safety net behind
Really shows how much faith she has in us too, like she could’ve bonded tithes with anyone or anything but she chose us, the players, that’s just wholesome man
I like the distrust Elsie has here specifically because it makes sense. In most media this kinda of plotpoint fails because usually the person that is "distrustful" is just ignorant of what is happening in the action.
Elsie here is acting on distrust due to trauma that both us as players and the other character's know of. The amount of fucked up stuff she had to go through in that dark future is enough trauma to make her fearful of Eris becoming a hive god even if she is aware that isn't the same chain of events. Its enough fear and trauma to make sense as to why she is hostile and scared. I imagine even Elsie herself is actually aware deep down that this is not gonna go the same way as her future, but she is too scared of what she faced to be able to act entirely mature and objective about this, and I totally get her and understand her on that.
@@elsienova4269 Even if it's different it's still too close to home for what she remembers. I clearly remember one the last audio logs from Season of the Seraph(I think the actual last one), was her saying with audible fear, that the loops were over. She no longer recognized the events of the current timeline, and was in 'uncharted waters' as it were. After all that, only to have something that happened countless times in her loops, done with *our help?* The feeling of betrayal there must also be unbearable. After everything, and we're basically back to square one and we helped do it with one of the biggest events that caused the Dark Future.
I think oryx needed the tithes in order to feed his worm. Eris doesn't need that.
@@CC-2062 I feel like as the season progresses we’ll see the negative side of having a worm familiar, time will tell
I'm more worried of Elsie losing control then Eris, I fear she might do something out of fear to stop Eris from being able to contend Xivu.
Or worse kill Eris outright
If anything, I expect US to end up killing Xivu, it wouldn’t make sense for her to do it when we’ve been doing all of the footwork. I can see it as being a final mission to try and have us do the work for her. With the right training and game plan, we could easily defeat her. After all, it’s not like Bungie took the time and effort to build her into a proper villain that we can’t wait to confront. She wasn’t built up like Savathun and Oryx. We still barely know anything about her. All we know is she thrives on war, hates her sister, and is a disciple to the Witness. Other then that…..we don’t really know anything else. Savathun and Oryx weren’t given that treatment, so why can’t she be given the same treatment they got?
Now that you say that, I do think we're gonna have a moment where Elsie has Eris at gun/knife point. And the Guardian having such a way with words, we'll talk her down. Or Eris will do something to gain her trust. It's all up in the air rn, but I don't doubt Elsie is gonna do something.
Can you blame her? In literally every timeline she's been in, Eris becomes corrupted and becomes the new Witch Queen.
As I understood it; the thing that made Beyond Light not turn into the Dark Future was the involvement of Elsie and us, the player, in how guardians started using stasis. I think Eris is referring to us when she says she isn't alone. We have been a key piece in averting the dark future before. Elsie needs to trust we can do it again.
Though I don't doubt how scary it can be for her if an event like this leads to a bad future 9 times out of 10.
We are still the glue that holds together this timeline. I still believe that without us, everything would break again.
I trust eris, i was in the camp that when we slayed oryx i would have taken the throne world as my own (also awoken hunter if context needed) as a insurance policy incase our ghosts ever failed id have another way of being revived, when we fought savathun the whole time i kept thinkin "listen the traveler chose you for a reason, i dont wanna do this youve clearly lost just surrender and we can talk about your plans so if its truly in himanity and the travelers best interest we dont accidentally fuck it up cause of our own egos"
And looking back on the events i keep thinking "we should have at least heard her out" but now eris knows what shes doing, she was WARNED BY ELSIE about the dark timeline, eris is methodical if nothing else so she would have taken great care to avoid making that timeline reality. I think, like mylen mentioned, sjes gonna martyr herself and make a throne world for humanity
I honestly feel like the more we progress throughout the story, the less and less the Dark Future actually holds up. Yes we have Eramis in that timeline, but there is absolutely no mention of the Witness, Caiatl, Crow, Mithrax, and a few other key players. There's also not a single mention of the Scorn either, which is also very curious. Also as others have said here, Eris doesn't have the same reason to do what she's doing in the Dark Future as she does in this timeline. If anything, the Dark Future seems to be naught but a giant misdirection, or at the very least some odd feedback loop that Elsie Bray has been caught in again and again. I think the lorebook functions better as a cautionary tale and not an actual prophecy of the future.
What you wanna bet that for the season ending leading into Final shape. Eris either sacrifices herself in the defeat of Xivu Arath, or askes us to kill her before her corruption is to far gone.
I can definitely see this happening. Then, we can reunite with her true, purified Guardian form inside the Traveler, somehow, and we team up with all our dead homies to take down the Witness. Instead of causing the dark future, maybe Eris is the one who figures out how to stop it.
Fear, Love, Vengeance, Pain, Desperation, and Survival push people to commit unspeakable acts. When in a war for survival, those unspeakable acts lose their taboo. This is the nature of war. If you need an example, look no further than the Fallen.
Eris treads a vanishingly thin line, and we should take great care to support her as she makes good decisions. We should also not hide that we are willing to kill our friend if she wanders too far. We owe her that respect.
Personally, I support Eris. She knows the Faustian bargain that she's struck. We would do well to remind ourselves of the gravity of that bargain.
Man, I wish we could see Elsie’s reaction in-game.
Although it's kinda hard to see her facial expressions thru that mask...
@@chipsawdust5816What mask?
@@chipsawdust5816 mask? She’s an exo
@@JGr2000 The face is a mask that covers the exo innards. At least that's what it looks like to me.
Both side are equally correct for how they felt for the other, Elsie fears that Eris will turn out the same way that she did in the Dark Future while Eris tries to reassure Elsie, telling her that she is not alone this time unlike what happened in the Dark Future. But there is one thing that still shakes me to this day, and it's what Xivu Arath said in the recording Immaru played for us. What if Eris truly becomes something that would inherit Oryx's mantle? While its good to have faith in Eris, I can't help but feel like Elsie is right to be fearful of what Eris is doing... Even Immaru believes that something feels wrong about this whole thing, and despite how much of a cheeky lil prick Immaru can be, he does bring up good points. We'll just have to wait and see how things play out...
I guess the biggest similarity I gleaned out of this between Eris's intentions and the intentions of others, including the hive gods, is that she's "chosen her form carefully."
How awesome would it be to visit Elizabeth Exo Stranger at her little hut, and she's just pacing and talking to herself. So freaking epic. That would be the only change I'd ask for.
But also, we have not gotten any updates on who Elizabeth was talking to during the cutscene in D1. Her crew? Was it just some random support she had, or maybe someone yet unrevealed?
The dark future lore book was so well written. And only gets better with age. It's my favorite lore book.
Even though it is your voice reading, it is read so well that i can hear the voices of the characters in my head. Another great lore video.
10:08 This made me tear up. As someone who’s lost a family pet recently. I can understand why Elsie would do ANYTHING to stop the future she has lived in.
People have been wary of Eris from the get go. I mean, do you blame them? Her eyes are continuously weeping black gunk.
However, despite ever weird response, bizarre action or suspicious smile, Eris has had our backs every single time. And I think this time around, it won't so much be her having our back as us having hers.
If there is anyone I feel I can trust in Destiny, it is going to be our resident spooky goth witch lady with the glowing eyes.
Really appreciate you blurring everything but what you're reading, it's honestly a huge help to read and understand everything even as you're reading it aloud 😅.
I feel like in the Dark Future lorebook, Eris became a Disciple of the Witness, which is how she gained enough power to outdo Savathun, and why the Traveler fled Earth.
But now, Eris has become the very retribution she wishes to enact against her fireteam's killers: Crota and Oryx.
They were just puppets, being controlled by the Witness. The Witness is the true threat,. and the Witness is the ultimate reason why Vell, Omar, Sai, Eriana and Toland are dead (though some less dead than others).
So now, I'm pretty sure the chance of Eris becoming a Disciple is utterly 0.
After that? She'll probably still hold Xivu Arath responsible for Crota's butchery of her friends.
I feel like she'll remain the Hive God of Vengeance until the last of the Osmium Dynasty lies dead at her feet.
*Then* maybe we should start worrying about her.
Hivefu has Drifters love and people around her. She'll be fine.
"A matter of distrust" would have been a killer cutscene. Great read on its own
Now I want D3 to be the dark future time line as seen through Elsie's eyes.
Elsie be like: Green is sus
Elsie: *kills Eris for revenge after all the futures she’s seen*
Eris: *is summoned back immediately because God of Vengeance*
Elsie: *surprised Pikachu face*
Finnaly byf covers teh subject that's been in my mind ever since the trailer
Elsie's rage will be felt 10 times across the galaxy
So with this, I was wary of Eris becoming dark future. But after helping her with her dark past on the moon, and her being taken into the dark vanguard, my belief changed.
On another note, I really hate that the closest we have gotten so far from Elsie is ikora mentioning her to Eris after a discussion in lore. Like at least have it on radio 😅. Instead what would have been amazing is if instead of that sword logic cutscene, we had Elsie confront Eris after transforming for a 2nd time, even pointing a gun at her saying “I can’t go through this again and I won’t.” Onto for Eramis to ask for Elsie’s hand and use her new found power to memory share/show (akin to recollection like Savathun did with Crow but this time Eramis sees this shadow time line first hand (Que cutscene of certain events happening). An then like have Eramis move Elise gun to her head and swear that if things ever go south, she swears an oath, that Elsie can end it all. Like that is the kind of interaction I want! Like akin to the sword at Zavala’s throat when trying to calm down Sloane. The leap of faith that makes a guardian a guardian.
Still think it sucks that all these stakes with possibly losing Eris, just to solve the mystery of getting into traveler. It feels like such a undercut just to have a wish solve the issue. It just feels like Bungie handwaving the portal like "oh now you can go" like a clerk flipping the open sign in a store.
I think its great that bungie made sure that we get to know the reactions different characters had to this. Of course, cutscenes wouldve been better, but we have a lot of characters involved at this point.
And i'd rather get lore tabs than nothing. Because there were moments in the past when i thought to myself "where is x character right now and what would they say?". So this is much appreciated
I feel like an ironic twist of fate is on the horizon. It wouldn't surprise me if during an important part of this season Ana's expertise is brought in; and with that knowledge sending Elsie over the edge. Elsie would likely try to stop Eris to keep a dark future from happening BUT Ana steps in to defend Eris and one of the Bray sisters doesn't walk out of that confrontation.
It would be poeticly ironic for either Ana or Elsie to fall at the hands of the other and Eris keeps with her current trajectory as Hive God of Vengeance.
Dear Byf,
I know that this will probably get buried in the pile, but I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the awesome content you make and share with us, and for being a beacon of relentless positivity. You’re one of a select few channels that I would happily watch regardless of the type of content you produced, simply because of the positive vibes you put out into the world. In an increasingly cynical era, people like you stand out like lighthouses in the dark, and I can’t thank you enough for that. I WAS THINKIN LIKE WHERE IS THE STRANGER BC THIS SHOULD BE A TOUCH TOO FAMILIAR TO HER
I always wanted a season or expansion where we explore or stumble in one of these alternate timelines. Imagine fighting Eris Morn as our main enemy where she's fully succumbed to the darkness
I mean Bungo could do that after Final Shape seeing as the Vex are going to be a major issue in the future.
Maybe because the Vex cannot kill us or comprehend our powers, their best option is to cast us to another dimension/timeline to buy themselves time.
@@godknightomegaDidn't they try something similar in the Vault of Glass raid just for us to say Nuh uh and come back. I know sending us to another timeline is different from erasing us, but the solution might be similar if not the same.
@@runningoutofnames3CS
Maybe.
I think the Vex could manage to banish us to another timeline but only because that solution isn't permanent like erasure.
Whereas deleting something that doesn't completely obey the laws of the universe is much more difficult.
They managed to do it in the vault of glass where if I recall there's a guardian that's both dead and alive. Though it's been so long since I've read the lore I may well be misremembering.
Thank you for the video been loving this a lot recently
i think eris is one of the most resilient characters in the series. i imagine the dark future lore book will become true in a sense, but eris will not fall to temptation and she'll ultimately be the reason we can ally with the hive
"Ally". More like enslave. Unless Eris somehow cures the hive of what makes them hive instead of Kril, the worm spawn that are the children of the worm gods that are enslaved by The Witness, then they can only be bent to task, but never freed from the directive to kill all other life.
Maybe she could create a line of wormspawn that aren't tethered to the witness, thus being free to compete in their own friendly civil wars to feed their worms or perhaps even be freed of the need to tithe death and destruction altogether.
Though I doubt that will come to pass. If anything, it will be just a few segments of hive that ally with us. Just like Eramis and Calus's legions still fight for the Witness.
I thought so too for a long time, but bungie has been slowly yet purposefully nudging events more and more skewed away from that lorebook, with the biggest difference between this timeline and that one is that we fell corrupted there and no one really learned that Light and Dark were not inherently good or evil and they can be wielded in tandem for any purpose. They all fell to dogmatism where one side is right and the other is wrong, blind to the true nature of these powers. Blinded on purpose by the traveler and witness. We've seen through these lies in this timeline, our guardian was never corrupted, and ever since seeing the Traveler be Taken to Sav's throne world, I knew the book wouldn't come to pass.
The defining moment, for me, that proved it was in the lorebook, the tower is descended on by witness corrupted factions and their leaders. But none of them were full on disciples. We never seen any of them or the witness in the lorebook, and the traveler abandons us to continue its cat and mouse BS. In this timeline, it was far too late to do that. Either it had faith in us, Sav included, and waited for this moment because we turned those forces that would invade us away or to our side. Or the traveler is an idiot and just took too long to run away and now it cant.
So theres like.. 4 cruxes at which our timeline could've been the dark future and didn't go that way and now we are at the endpoint of the narrative. The traveler is captured and the witness must be stopped by our incorruptible guardians. Theres no reconciling the two timelines into one eventuality anymore.
1. We never fell to Darkness
2. Drifter and Ikora still live
3. The tower was never razed
4. The traveler didnt/couldn't leave in time to abandon us to our fate.
These events have lead very specifically away from the dark future ever being possible in our timeline.
Which is a good thing. Because 1, we would already know the ending then and that would be really fucked up they just drop that on us as a text dump years before it actually happens..
2. It's really cool writing, I was super into it and couldn't wait to see what they used from it ingame going forward.. but it didn't have an honest to god conclusion. It ended with Elsie being sent to another timeline again.
3.theres just way too many, still, unanswered questions for the narrative to end based on that lore book. Especially now with the introduction of the veil and whatever the fuck is going on "inside" the traveler.
Also, I dont think we will ever ally with the Hive. This "collaboration" with immaru and Savathun is probably the closest we will get.
Savathun still sees us as beneath her. Pawns to be used for HER manipulatuons. And even though this is old and you probably know the rest of the seasons story by now, eris was never planning on keeping this power. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. So when you have it, you make the best you can out of it and then relinquish it to avoid becoming corrupted by it. And someone else said here, in an old comment, that she has built a ton of safeguards in if she decides to use it selfishly. Which looking back at the season, it's pretty obvious now we could easily have put an end to a power hungry Eris. That said.. she may be a "hive god" but all of the hive that are not a part of the Lucent brood still believe in the sword logic and final shape. They would never side with eris to serve us in any capacity. They are by all accounts, religious cult fanatics. They live by the creed of kill all that is unworthy of life, and we do not live by that same creed. The religious barrier would be too great. As for the Lucent brood, it's not impossible. Some hive guardians may develop a true sense of identity away from the life they came from, being influenced by their ghosts.. but this is also unlikely as unlike Savathun, all of them are "ordinary" risen. They rezzed with no memory and only know what Savathun wants them to. It's entirely possible they may not even follow her anymore since they dont have to tithe to her or anyone anymore, and she died. Surface level, she rezzed her lucent brood with the percieved intention of usurping us as the Traveler's chosen. She "failed" to make good on that, died by our hands, no longer can contain or control the Traveler and its Light. Theres a lot of room for loss of loyalty and I think this was very well depicted in the new dungeon lore where they try to force rez Oryx. They want a new leader and they clearly view us as opposition or, lorewise, we wouldn't still be fighting, killing, and crushing hive ghosts.
They have their own designs with the Light and it doesn't include playing friendly with us. So eris "becoming a hive" and literally being our ally, plus this seasons interaction with savathun and her post-death plans, are probably going to be the only way we can say we were "allies"
The only consolation to this is that Savathun gave us Immaru as a parting gift to crush if we even so much as thought she was fucking with humanity. Which could also be a bad sign though given all this imbarru stuff she's been building up. Maybe a point will come she can attain immortality without the light or the dark and feels she won't need immaru again. But on the flipside.. maybe she may go back to her lucent brood and try to redirect them again as some kind of spear point against the witness.. but with their likely loss of loyalty in her.. she may also just be going off into the universe to fade out of the story and just do her own thing anymore. She has no tie to the darkness or the witness anymore. It's clear the light will never leave us again unless the traveler is destroyed and then, we will still have our inherent darkness. So as long as she doesn't do bad to humanity, she could essentially live forever.
I dont remember what its called.. but in the lore there was a sort of religious belief that the light and dark were in a balancing act. The only way to destroy the darkness is to give up the light as well. Essentially forsake and rid the universe of both of these forces.
Darkness comes from the veil and I'm assuming Light will come from whatever the Pale Heart is inside the traveler. Destroy them both and neither force will have an established existence within the universe, and neither power could be used or exploited again, possibly.
I think bungie has set up plenty of things to keep us having space magic if destiny really will continue with a whole new saga.. but I dont think it will be intrinsically Light or Dark anymore and be more literal space magic calling on the elements of the universe and manipulation of physics. The vex do this and only use technology. And I feel like whatever they have planned for the beginning of this new saga will include a massive expansion on the vex and what's up with them. My prediction is the hive mostly die out. They "evil" ones cannot live without their worms and if we nullify the universe of Light and Dark, the lucent brood will be mortal and maybe even revert back to their original Krill forms over time. The coalition will retake torobatl. Eliksni and humans, awoken and cabal will come together to try and make a new golden age in Sol. And eventually the vex will show back up again because we really, actually, dont know shit about any of their true purposes or where they came from, or why they exist. It could be, the future we "stopped" in curse of osiris may become a threat again as the Vex become the dominant antagonist in Sol. It's entirely possible, though I honestly kind of hope not, that the beginning of this new vex based saga could lead to hopping around to other stars, other galaxies, other universes, other dimensions.. and have even crazier shit going on than what we spent the last decade getting piecemealed to us.
Eris becoming a hive god, the tower falling, even savathuun falling, and eliksni and cabal allying with each other or (former) guardians seems to be things that just happen even how the leviathan is left a derelict…idr quite the whole lore book and since it’s only one timeline i think i can’t really say these things are just supposed to happen like canon events per se but still it’s quite a conveniently parallel timeline bungie chose to give us insight on
I rhink it's safe to say that, thanks to tropes, we can already predict with a decent chance of accuracy that Eris will *almost* be fully corrupted by the power - probably as a machination of Xivu Arath - but only the _power of friendship_ and her experience with learning Stasis and not being consumed by it will bring her back from the brink in an impressive and flashy manner. Probably while also causing a great deal of damage to our enemies.
The key difference between ours and all other timelines is the traveler leaving. In ours as you said is the only one it didn't flee and that is what sets us apart and why we won't lose.
Also, if being the god of vengeance keeps Eris from hurting her friends, if Elsie betrays Eris in any way, then vengeance against Elsie could be on the table...
Obviously Elsie wouldn’t be fond of this, thanks to the Dark Future timeline. Let’s hope Eris doesn’t lose control 🙏🏾
Ever since this season started, I've been hoping the stranger would react
Man it would be awesome to see a Dark Future cutscene from the eyes of Elsie. It could be on the new legends timeline, but obviously detached from everything else.
I doubt Eris will be corrupted in this timeline, but I can’t help but want to side with Elsie when you keep hearing Eris’ voicelines in the altar rituals and how insane with power she sounds when we tithe to her
I think that even if Eris does end up getting corrupted by power, we can will stop it. We've killed 3 hive gods and some of the most powerful hive that have existed already, whats one more to the list of those slain?
3? Crota was an ascendant hive but i doubt he counts as a hive god.
@@vuvuzela4570I started playing D2 at towards the end of Beyond Light so I didn't know for sure so I did a quick Google and it said 3 so that's what I said.
@@prismbladez4982 If being the son of a hive god means you are one then that means we’ve killed 4. 5 if the granddaughter of a hive god counts. Then there was savarhûn’s daughter in the shattered throne so that makes 6. Let me tell you really quick, there have never been 6 hive gods.
@@vuvuzela4570Like I said I just put what Google told me. The only one that I have actually killed is Savathun. But I know that lore wise we have killed other hive gods. I also said some of the most powerful Hive (that are not technically gods) that have ever existed so that includes all the ones that you listed
I trust Eris but I think having contingencies is wise. Batman trusts the Justice League but he still has contingencies for every single one of them just in case of the worst. I think allowing Elsie to create or at least brainstorm some contingency plans could help put her at ease a little and allow her to maybe see things differently. All she believes is that Eris has unchecked power and therefore can’t be stopped if need be but if we can create checks in Eris’ power that don’t necessarily hinder Eris but allow us to shut her down so to speak we might be able to get everyone on board with the plan even Elsie.
Deep Speculation; eris is corrupted and the dark future comes to pass, ikora dies and finds cade within the Traveler, savathun tells us what we need to know before succumbing to Eris's vengeance, we fail to stop the witness and our timeline collapses, Exo stranger finds us and takes is with her to the new timeline, going backwards through history to the point where she explains why she hasn't got time to explain, we the guardian are on the other side of her comms in that moment coming full circle and dealing with the vex and timeywimey stuff 😅 consider this a 'shower thoughts' moment in the toilet
I love that as we are approaching the anniversary of season of the seraph, and the warsat’s, we see Eris now laying a symmetrical revenge trap for Xivu and offering everyone an all you can eat buffet of vengeance. It’s poetic and glorious.
I could even see Elsie get in on these tithings and shoot down Eris in revenge for dark future Anna, thus supporting the cause.
Lots of vengeance threads they can pull this season, and everyone has a bone to pick with someone.
Good tithings we bring…
Im actually with Elsie on this, Eris has gained our trust yes greatly so but she also has never had this much power before and in the lore shes loving it alot and letting vengence consume her. If Kratos taught me anything its to not give in the revenge and vengence. Will be interesting how Bungie goes about it all but im being cautious of Eris and on Elsies side here. Hopefully with support of those around her Eris wont lose control.

*"DISPLATE LUMINO!"*
Honestly all of this actually makes me want the dark timeline Eris to happen, feel like it would be a suitable level of loss for us at the end of the season if Elsie has to put Eris down or if we have to
I hope not... Eris has always been my favorite. But yeah, I don't think I saw her in any promotion materials. But that could be by design so we don't know what happens to her
@@justcallmeness Definitely feels like something they would intentionally leave out to keep things vague. Just like how they hid the 'trick' that Savathun used to 'steal' the Light.
Oof I hope not. She's a powerful ally. We wouldn't be here without her. And I don't see final shape going down without her. They want us to be a united front, that's why they brought back Cayde
Apokalypse Bingo on Elsies side must be looking wild right now.
I’ve been waiting on this part!
Ok, but if we had a dungeon where we had to kill Eris, that would be sick, and very sad.
I've been waiting for this one. Elsie is not having any of this.
True. She doesn't have any of this great character development that Eris is having.
I’m not surprised its just like truth to power eris becoming a hive god
Nvm not truth to powef
The lore you went over
Actually I’m pretty sure there was another timeline in truth to power where they used the leviathan to take the travel but I don’t remember it probably it was in the lore book that had the different options if I remember properly
Honestly Elsie's fear and animosity towards this whole situation is warranted. It seemed so far that the Dark Future was avoided but here we have something from it playing out right before us. I'm hoping that Eris doesn't go down the same road her Dark Future self went
That's the thing, Eris is bound to us. She can't get stronger if we don't tithe. We're the safety net. As for the Dark Future, Eris was left to her own devices with no connections to current characters.
But with us being at her side it'll keep everything grounded. And as I said before, she can't get stronger if Guardians don't tithe.
I wonder what the relation between eris and elsie is. They seem close enough in beyond light. Im assuming eris knew about her from mara long before ikora and that elsie trusted eris enough to teach her stasis first. Makes me wonder why she went to ikora and not her directly
One theory I have is that an alternative way will be found to defeat Xivu Arath; if she operates by the Sword Logic, specifically as manifested in war, then there might be something that could "outsword" that part of the Sword Logic, or even the Sword Logic itself.
I also figure that it's possible that Eris could need an intervention of sorts. She might need the Guardian, The Drifter, and/or Ikora to step in to reel her back from the corruption of power.
broke: eris overcomes the temptation of sword logic, and wields hive magic to overwhelm xivu araths authority, crushing the hive god and performing our end of the bargain for immaru
woke: eris is overcome by the power of the darkness, and is consumed by the sword logic. she slays xivu arath and assumes control as the final hive god of pure darkness
bespoke: eris plays a gotcha on everyone and tithes all her accumulated power to the one person more intimately familiar with sword logic than her: Toland the Shattered. Tolands soul is summoned from the Sea of Screams, his soul inexorably mixed with that manifestation of the deep. Mixed with the tithed power eris granted him, Toland becomes the Transcendant Hive God of Comprehension. Instead of trying to fight War Incarnate with more war, we fight with Knowledge incarnate, and Xivu Arath is left utterly stalemated.

Well Eris told me to trust her because if I didn't no one will. She needs us to keep her sane and herself. She has sacrifice so much for us, The only one willing to get their hands dirty to do what needs to be done. Even though it looks wrong she has my full trust and respect. She cannot do this alone And if it comes to it and she falls, Then we will be the ones to put her to rest. The other timelines never had guardians like us, we will do what needs to be done.
So random idea occurred to me 4 minutes in to this
DESTINY 3: The Dark Future saga
This season is so neat- it’s honestly refreshing
Eris: *strays towards the Dark Future*
Guardians: we must prevent that!
Eris: Aiat.
Guardians: AIAT!!!!
😂😂
Awesome content Byf!
I totally get where Elsie is coming from, but Eris has the Drifter, Caiatl, and most importantly The Guardian for support and grounding - and if things go completely sideways, the 12-time Galactic Champion Godslayer is someone I don't recall being talked about in those other dark futures.
When telling stories there is a major difference between parallel universe settings and diverging timeline settings.
A common trope in time traveling is that the future can't be changed and even if events are changed time itself course corrects. An example is in the Terminator timeline, even after the second movie having wrapped up, destroying all time traveling evidence and Skynet, we find out it only delayed the fall of humanity. Sure that doesn't means it's a golden rule of story telling but it wouldn't surprise me if Eris did become an antagonist in the future.
From what ive seen (which isnt much because i am not forking out 21$ for this season) i think that eris might struggle to controle the new hive powers within her, but we might anchor her to not fall to darkness.
Soooo the next 3D lore movie adaptation is gonna be Dark Future lore book right? Heck i'd be down to pitch in for that!
I don't remember the exact details of how Elsie time travels, so this is like reaching across the entire restaurant for the thinnest straw. But... if she really visited timelines in which the Witness was victorious, and the Witness's Final Shape is essentially a universe frozen in time, then I wonder how Elsie was able to return from those timelines.
If she's an external observer, literally outside of the flow of time but able to watch what unfolds, then it shouldn't be a problem. But in the Dark Future timeline (and, probably, all the others), she's actively involved in the events that unfold. I wonder, then, if the Witness's Final Shape isn't what we suspect it is.
What a killer cinematic this could’ve been
......*sigh*
My exo girl can't seem to catch a break....
But I trust Eris that she won't be corrupted by the power. That is why shes got Ikora, Drifter, and the Guardian.
"A side should always be taken, little light. Even if it's the wrong side."
I don't really expect Elsie to stand on the sidelines.
Byf love the videos but I have just seen something extremely interesting the pharmakos shell has some interesting implications. Pharmakos meaning a person condemned to death. Any thing you could say about this? I definitely love the idea of us having to sacrifice ourselves to stop the witness.
I think a cool plot twist is no one becoming corrupted but instead this timeline Elsie becomes corrupted
I was watching a TV show not too long ago. One of the characters had done terrible things in the name of protection, a chance at saving those they cared for. They had regrets.
But someone pulled them aside and said “you don’t have to be strong alone”
This is why I think Eris will be ok in this timeline. She has lived a life of stoicism, acting as our Virgil through any and all hive matters. She keeps a cold and rigid mind despite the nightmares that haunt her. Her armour is hardened as she survived for years in the Hellmouth.
But she does not need to be strong alone. Crow has taught her hope. Ikora has taught her camaraderie. Drifter has taught her trust. I can only hope that she does not forget these lessons as she receives her tithes and laughs as the power trip goes to her head. I can only hope that her affiliation with the hive will only last as long as her goal of vengeance. Whether she will stop at the dea5 of the three hive gods or whether she will continue.
I wish this was a cutscene. It would have been very cool to see.
Holy shit that D1 warlock drip looking amazing
Only Elsie would have the balls to ambush Ikora like that, and that's why I love her.
Here's the thing about vengeance, you need not be wronged by a party to feel vengeful or righteous in your vengeance. Eris could certainly feel wronged by the traveler for leading the hive to earth, for doing nothing to stop the great disaster, and for the subsequent loss of her fireteam. Time will tell
I'm pretty sure Grandpa Clovis was talking about TEMU.....what chad ad placement
Elsie is the one getting lost in her wavering authority now that she doesn’t have knowledge of future events. She is truly helpless for the first time in hundreds of loops, since she’d always return regardless of wether she’d like it or not, but now it’s not that certain anymore.
She’s traumatised, and while those emotions can guide Lightbearers, Elsie is forgetting her own teachings on Stasis.
I knew she would have a problem with this, she was the one who warned us about a dark future... All seemingly with an Evil Eris.
Yeah Eris smiling when Elsie killed Ana was a pretty dark story. Bits and pieces we were given long ago that now come into the realm of possibility.
It’s a calculated risk. Elsie however, has not anticipated the intervention of one key player…. the Drifter.
Consider an idea, if on the journey to defeat Xivu where eris finds herself not strong enough to beat her, Elsie killing her out of vengeance could instantly bring her back, as at that point I'm sure Eris will have claim to her throne realm, the act of Elsie killing her will be invoking her power at the same time.
"I am vengeance, and you have conjured me back with vengeance."
Byf really knows how to put things together so it's interesting. I feel like one of the problems that occurs in the Destiny narrative is that we know that consequences won't come.
This should be an intense choice and honestly, if we had a say I would have told Eris no. But instead we're forced on her side and we know she's not going to be corrupted and that everything will be fine. Every season there's something that seems risky that characters disagree with and it always turns out fine.
I don't want Eris to be corrupted but it's gotten to the point that I want my expectations subverted even if that means Eris becomes the next big antagonist.
