I'd feel sorry for her but I've been there in crucible facing down guys decked out in trials gear and wondering why we don't have a skill rank system....
Yep... and that'ss only just the beginning. Wwait till she has to carry all of the AFK n00bs while dealing with 9 year veterans with twitch streams....
Ya know, I kinda think it's the other way around. The helmet causes Wards of Dawn to blind because Saint's Wards blind. Other guardians have unique aspects to their supers, such as Ana's Golden Gun causing molten pools of light to form where she shoots, or Shaw Han being able to buff allies by firing his into the ground. Cayde as well, as his GG directly buffed his weapon. He just always did it with Ace, but he probably could have done it with a rocket launcher.
@@xarm23ana’s golden gun doesnt make pools of solar light normally, it only happened during the battle of twilight gap cause of how intense that battle was.
I was waiting for someone to post this! Savathun *weakly* - “What is today?!” Saint - *cracks knuckles* Suubota! Savathun:”Oh?!” - *gets killed* Saint: “Only…one..GUARDIAN…left… *kills Savathun again* Moments later… Savathun:”Is this…for Osiris?!” Saint:”Welcome to Trials OF Osiris!!” Savathun *weakly*: I just got my god roll from watching Aztecross!! Saint - “hmph” *continues merc’in Savathun* 😂
It’s almost insulting how many people forget that Saint’s nickname isn’t for show. This is the Titan that single handedly destroyed multiple Eliksni Houses completely. Then he defended the Last City as Vanguard Commander before Zavala. Then he spent eons in the Infinite Forest fighting Vex while searching for Osiris. He is the man, the myth, the legend behind what it means to be a Titan.
Getting him out of the vex forest, and then solving the puzzle as a community, and seeing our own death, was the highlight of my time in destiny. It was amazing.
Thanks for mentioning his stay in the Vex Forest. Previous season everyone acting all precious and serious for Sloane like she gonna break, forgetting Saint was in something very similar but nobody seemed to care nearly as much.
Imagine savathun talking trash to Ikora and Eris saying she hasnt lost any of her power, then proceded to get folded back to back immediately after leaving their side
Which makes no sense, Savathun *is* powerful enough to where Ikora couldn't keep her there, yet Saint was easily able to both find and slaughter Savathun? Ikora is supposed to be stronger than Saint, I don't get how this entry is supposed to make sense outside of "Wow, that's a cathartic beatdown." If he could defeat her, why not take her remains back to the Tower for further recontainment so that she isn't a further threat?
@@trashjashKeeping Savathun was apart of the deal for us to cross the portal. She's got too much insight to stay dead. Atleast we can crush Immaru if we see fit.
@@trashjashIkora maybe not, but the Guardian was. And since Saint is somewhat the best Titan existing, I'd say he is powerful enough. Also like he said to her she is weak because it is new to be revived like that
@@trashjash only two issues with that brother, Ikora is more powerful than Shaxx, not saint. Clear distinction between the two. Saint is one of if not the strongest guardian to live outside of your playable character. Secondly Savathun was allowed to leave due to the nature of her and the vanguard deal and her leaving her ghost as an insurance policy but I can easily see where you're coming from on this and actually agree to an extent.
@@haxelhimura i think people forget sometimes that cutscenes are kinda *very hard and expensive to make*. Game Dev in general is hard and i dont wanna go full "thing hard so no critique allowed" but when it comes to what gets a cutscene and what doesn't, i think going with stuff actually vital to the story (the cool ink style exposition cutscenes) makes more sense than a cool story off to the side.
I actually think the medium of text words better as a narrative here device here than film could manage.. The paragraph break is a thing works in a way that film would have difficulty replicating. There something a bit like this in the Doctor Who episode Heaven Sent, but that took 20 minutes of work to establish. I think the imagination does a better job of filling in the blanks here when it's just text than if cuts in a sequence if you don't have the prepping like Heaven Sent did.
First he became the boogeyman across generations of eliksni, then the vex (out of all factions) started respecting him enough to build a tomb in honor of his death. Now it wont take long until the hive hear how *The Saint* essentially pummelled one of their gods into submission as many times as he wanted to. I think its safe to say that he is the second most fearsome guardian that Sol has ever seen. Losing only to us, but that still says a lot about his sheer power
Biggest difference between us and him is that he could commit a litany of Vanguard unapproved war crimes, and everyone would look away. If we did the same, we would become the villain of the story for a time (which would be really interesting).
Savathûn: [panting] "Are ya *done?* Because I'm coming out... and I swear to the Traveler, if you do that *again...* I will be *so freaking nettled!"* Saint-14: "Kikohou" Savathûn: *"AWW DAMN IT!!!"*
I strongly suspect Savathun expected this, and clued in Immaru on it, but they didn't think it would be quite *this* fast for him to turn up and run her block. I'd bet she also knew full well Saint wouldn't kill her permanently, so there wasn't any actual danger to Savathun. Just a lot of pain. The biggest clue to me is Immaru going "Already?" in response to Saint killing Savathun the first time. The gloating is also just her style. The big miscalculation on her part is definitely the post-rez lethargy. She probably expected this fight a long time ago. Except it would be a fight, not a spine-folding exercise.
I like that the Eliksni didn't stop fearing Saint because he grew weak, but because he grew wise. Saint is no less scary at the end of that season, he's just aimed the other direction.
Most likely out of respect for his veterancy. Saint-14 is one of the oldest living titans and has experienced more time and combat than any other guardian due to being locked in the infinite forest time-loop for an unknown amount of time. He is a beacon of hope for the last city, but he's also well beyond tired. He has already put in more than his fair share, yet refuses to retire.
Important note, you said Savathûn made Osiris feel helpless..and that's how Saint would make her feel. As an addendum to that, Osiris mentions controlling his fury, not letting it consume him. That helplessness, I'd say its exactly why. On a lighter note. That card is a pretty good demonstration of the differences between a stereotypical Warlock and Titan. Osiris throughout remains calm, logical. Saint has fury simmering just beneath the surface, enough for Osiris to acknowledge but not exploding in his face. For extra levity, I always forget that Osiris is in fact bald..or at least very close shaven.
Whatever comes of it, I'm not mad at all. Saint has a blank check here. Whatever mess it makes, I'll deal with it. Also I kinda like the thought of him spawn camping her and Immaru getting more and more agitated as Saint goads him about "Yes, you bring her back. I have other thing to try."
I reminded of the Deadpool gif “Stupid! Worth it!!” Its Savathûn, of course she may have had an idea that Saint might take a swing at her. But like Immaru said, “Already?” First chance Saint got, he opened up that can of whoop ass. Even if it plays into her plans somehow, it was cathartic.
Saint just had this cartoonishly long list of ways to end Savathun and crossed off every entry one by one… including shoving the list down her throat to make her suffocate
I think they also use the Helm of Saint-14’s ability in the lord tab when Saint’s Ward of Dawn distrupts Immaru’s transmission. It probably also helped Saint beat Savathun over and over too
We need this read by Saint's voice actor and it will become nearly as iconic as Lance Reddick's reading of Zavala doing "Excuse me...". You get Savathun and Immaru's actors in on it, it will be amazingly chilling and satisfying.
This was one of very few lore tabs that gave me chills with every line. Saint is not only the greatest Titan of all time, to our enemies, he is one of the most terrifying. Made me think of the cutscene a few seasons back describing how horrified of him the fallen were.
To me this was the final bit of proof that Saint is no Titan because he is something far greater than a Titan could ever hope to be. His absolute Wrath, undying Devotion, and unending Loyalty are all the proof you need to see he is truly a SAINT of the innocent
Of I'm not mistaken, there is a content creator that makes animator around here that makes fan made Destiny 2 cutscenes based in audio logs or exotic weapons/armor lore tabs... I hope that person does an animated scene from this moment.
I think its very likely she knew that she and Saint would eventually have a confrontation but she didn't know when. Or perhaps she thought it would happen after The Witness was taken care of and not a moment before. But, that being said, I think Savathun's natural inclination when confronted is to gloat. Whether it's intended as manipulation or a defense mechanism for her I think when she is faces with an opposing force her first response is to just gloat and taunt her opponent into making a mistake. Like a Spanish Bullfighter waving a red capote around.
Immaru's initial reaction of "Already?" certainly seems to imply Savathun expected Saint (maybe another guardian, but Saint was probably mentioned by name) to exact some retribution on her. It was likely amongst the hundreds of contingencies she left for Immaru.
I don't think he killed so much as massacred her with every bit fury he's been holding in for so long. And lets be honest, Saint deserved to have a go at her after the mental fuckery she put him through
@@namersonuncle4971 Nah. Caital has her sights set on Xivu for what she did to Torobatl. I'm sure she'll have words for Savathun due to her involvement but her main focus until then is Xivu
She didnt put him through anything though. Osiris was right, Savathun *IS* dead. Lightbearer Savathun is not the same as the Savathun that used and posed as Osiris. We have already been over this and over this more and more with Ana and Crow. Osiris is also very realistic about what happend. It all sucked, but it also gave them what they need to continue on beyond this day. It was only because he was taken away by Savathun that he had any knowledge of Neptune. Even with all the scars and torment that came for him and Saint personally, it was ultimately necessary, and for the better for both in the long term. Especially since it gave them both a reality check that they are immortal beings, but not invulnerable. An end can still exist for them, so they need to cherish what they have now.
@@duo1666 That's a bit moot seeing as she's carrying out the plans that she set for herself in the event that she successfully became a Lightbearer. She's making the active choice to be the person that she once was. That's the difference between her and Crow.
I hope episodes will let us see shit like this in the game. I can’t believe we don’t get to see Saint just brutalize a god, that’s so goddamn cool and I’m tired of not seeing characters actually DO anything
Tou are right. For a game with such deep lore and excellent writing, we NEVER see the real good stuff. But we aure as hell relive the same fucking shit a gazillion time per season.
I'd like to think that Savathun saw this coming, but not the EXTENT of which it came. I imagine Saint's onslaught occured over the better part of a day. I don't think just killing her 10 times in a row would make one feel helpless. Frustrated? Sure. Disbelief? Definitely. Maybe even a bit of humor laughing at the situation. But being killed over and over and over again for several hours? That would have to make even a hive god feel helpless. Imagine how she feels during the hundreth revive? Does she even try to bring herself to her feet or does she just stay limp waiting for the next death? Savathun may have seen it coming, but I imagine during at least one of those revives that the Witch Queen generated a little bit of Imbaru trying to guess whether or not this one would be the last.
Thank you. This is the comment that I was looking for. There is no way in the darkest pit would he be satisfied with just 10 kills, 100? Maybe. 200? That feels more reasonable. And he was gone a long, long time. Long enough for one to notice, but not long enough to be worried.
Agreed 100%. If Saint, the strongest Titan and a mighty Exo to boot, is *tired* after being done with Savathûn, he probably spent most of a day killing her every 30-60 seconds. Osiris wasn't concerned so much as surprised at the length of his patrol, so Saint wasn't gone for days but likely left early in the morning and came back late at night. Also: the way that lore reads, Saint had his Ward of Dawn up the entire time he was killing Savathûn. It normally lasts, what, 30 seconds? (I'm a Solar Hunter main, so I have no idea.) Saint had his going for at least 12 hours. The righteous fury and raw Light-channeling power Saint put on display here is beyond impressive.
I like to imagine that saint (in the moment when he had savathun for that time) pulled a dominus Ghual with a edited line of “allow me to reacquaint you” but more suited for what was happening
One of the few dope lines from the Red War campaign. Glad they gave Ghaul a proper sendoff in Nightmares because contextually he was a bad-ass villain that didn't get enough shine.
I think that the word for what Saint was experiencing- and the driving factor for his rage and grief against Savathun- was 'helplessness'. Because Saint is, at his very core, a caretaker- he derives his life's joy from protecting people and caring for them, and everything that happened with Savathun was out of his control. Osiris mentions feeling helpless, yes, but Osiris managing to push back his trauma to make peace with the fact that they needed to consort with Savathun makes sense because Osiris is a big-picture strategist and warrior- he's much more self-sacrificial, always focused on the big picture and willing to throw everything he has of himself into it (which is how he lost Sagira- it's his biggest strength, and fatal flaw). Savathun has answers to problems that he himself has been trying to solve for so long- the problem of the Witness causing the Second Collapse- so humanity takes precedent over his own feelings on the matter. He can shove his pride aside and swallow down his hatred for her as long as it gives a chance for humanity to survive But Saint can't deal with it that way. He's not a fighter, he's a nurturer. He's a shield, not a sword. Saint wants to protect humanity, yes, but like I said, he cares for people- *individual* people, not the concept of them as a whole; there's a reason why we first met him broken and dejected after losing the colonists on Mercury. Osiris is good at the big picture and bad with individuals, but Saint is the other way around, and what Savathun did to Osiris is fundamentally an undermining of Saint's goals, and there's no way that he can try to fix it because there simply is no other choice. Like, put yourself in his shoes for a moment: your partner of potentially centuries breaks time to bring you back from the dead. There was never really time for you two to be openly together before the exile, given the political climate of the time, so even though shit's getting serious on a cosmic level, this is a chance to rebuild that you never thought you'd get when you were trapped in the Infinite Forest. Things start looking up- then all of a sudden something terrifying happens, and your partner runs off. They claim they will be back safe- but then the next you hear from them, their failsafe (and potential friend of yours for millennia) is dead, and they are vulnerable and alone far from your reach. Others go out and retrieve them, but when they come home, they're distant. Grieving, you think, and it tears at you because you can do nothing else but offer them support- support that they won't take. And it doesn't abate- they're turning into another person before your very eyes, one you no longer recognize, and they're starting to act in frighting, dangerous ways, until it cumulates into something terrible, and you're left to chase after them again, bewildered and betrayed. Then it suddenly turns out that it WASN'T them at all, and that the entire time they were somewhere you couldn't reach screaming silently for help because they were a prisoner in their own body while a monster wore their face, and *you didn't realize it*. And THEN when you DO get them back, they're comotose- the most fragile and close to death that you've ever seen them, possibly have *ever* seen them, and all you can do is wait and care for them and hope that they will wake up, because this isn't a foe that you can fight nor a wound that you can heal. Then when they *do* wake, their torturer isn't just allowed to go scotch free, she's also now allied with the people you trusted because she's your only hope for survival. YOU are dependent on HER. You can do NOTHING to rectify her wrongs, or break her for those months of agony you spent worrying that you were losing someone you loved, only to spend nearly a year worrying that you'd lose them entirely, when your whole life's worth is focused around protecting and caring for those you adore. No wonder he went ballistic, and then broke down as soon as he saw Osiris safely at home, comfortable and awake and alive. Everything that happened was something he was helpless to stop, a person he failed to protect, and something that he remains helpless to do anything against. It's injustice in its purest form, but it's not really Osiris's pain or retribution that's the focus here, because he himself cares little for it. It's injustice because Saint spent so long being unable to do anything about the agony that HE had to suffer, and he's STILL helpless because *this is something that he cannot fix*. He can build city walls, he can mend broken teacups, he can be the shield and the avenger for those who can't fight for themselves, but he could not do anything in those months between Sagira's death and Osiris's return to consciousness. He has ungodly levels of power, but none of it made a difference. He was helpless. (Also, I think that Savathun probably knew for a while that Saint was going to exact revenge on her for what she did, so it's not really something I'm alarmed by her being unphased by; just look at how she reacted to Eris killing her. Saint isn't exactly subtle. She's probably delighted by it, too. She seems endlessly fascinated by us and our hatred for her, and the Hive are all about that love-is-death-and-death-is-love shit, so it's just another fun quirk of humanity that she gets to deal with, even if it is a little bit humiliating. Which I think Saint understood, and is why he spawncamped her- it wasn't about killing her, or about the physical pain, it was about making her feel weak and vulnerable over and over and over again, just like he did. It was about making her feel helpless, just like he was.) Anyways bungie's ability to write stories about trauma and the nuances of it fuckin excel as usual. They might not win in all things, but anything hive-related seems to be their aim assist for story bangers
I already have a lot of feelings about Saint and Osiris and my lord you just made it a whole lot worse with your amazing comment, great job I will now go into my bed and sob my eyes out
God this is one of the times that it hurts we don't have a cutscene of this It would have been so cool to see Saint 14 putting Savathun in the thunderdome and giving her the beat down of her life
I'm pretty sure this was just a tiny fraction of what Saint has waiting for Savathun when there is no reason for him to hold back any longer. When that day comes, I'm sure Eris could start from scratch in becoming a Hive God of Vengence again and would only need one person to tithe to her to get it done in a single conflict.
i love the little nod to the helm of saint 14 giving a blinding effect inside of the bubble. Things like that to me is really what ties the lore to the gameplay and makes me appreciate it significantly more.
As a Titan main, I pumped my fist the whole time reading this. I wonder if Savathun couldn't sense Saint's attack because there was absolutely no cunning or trickery involved in it. Maybe his cause was just so pure and raw and free of cunning or lies that she just couldn't sense it. I also wonder why Saint wept afterwards, because with Savathun being alive and in her throne world he could be 100% sure that she wasn't controlling Osiris, or because he knew that he couldn't take his final revenge, at least not yet. Or maybe it's because he worked so hard to rehabilitate his image in the eyes of the Eliksni and if they find out what he did then that could all be undone, Savathun made him become the monster the Eliksni feared him to be.
The thing about the Eliksni they already knew about "The Demon" then they got to see "The Saint" humanity knew. They learned why Saint-14 was such a hellish creature when they were all "Fallen" in the eyes of humanity and would understand what kind of pain forced "The Demon" to march on Savathun.
As a Hunter main, I had an absolute ball seeing Saint get his revenge. (As for the weeping, that's a common response to release of tension. He's been carrying what Savathun did to him - did to them both, really - since Lost at the absolute latest, and only now is he able to put it down)
10:38 - I just realised they're laying the groundwork to kill Mithrax. This is the second mention of Mithrax feeling 'numb', the other is in the lore entry 'Auspices' where it says he's been feeling it for months. Probably next season he convinces Eramis to turn, they help us locate the 'Heirloom' and die fighting together, sacrificing themselves. Bungie's story team have been focused on wrapping up character arcs since witch queen. Caital, Asher, Amanda, Sloane, Eris, Ana & Rasputin. Mithrax and Eramis are some of the last remaining. Edit: Also Saladin, who finally got past his loss of the Iron Lords and found new comrades with the Cabal, and Osiris, who overcame the grief of losing Sagira and his Light by giving up his obsession with controlling everything while learning to use Strand.
There's still Crow's storyline to wrap up, Brother Vance hasn't had his Post-Arrivals moment like Asher and Sloane and there's maybe the potential chance that Bungie might remember that Failsafe still exists.
I didn't actually know that Saint-14 and Osiris were in a relationship, that's awesome. That story of them sitting at the table repairing the arm is fantastic, thank you for reading that as well.
I’ll shout it from the mountaintops again and again- Bungie’s decision to bring Saint back into the modern day was one of the best narrative decisions they have made. He is up there with Eris, Savathun, Drifter, and Cayde as one of the best characters of the franchise.
“Have we finished talking about this now?” Hurts to hear Osiris talk like that. Relatable. We move on from trauma but it’s still preferable not to discuss it for too long.
Hearing Saint-14 just more or less play a role similar to Johnny Gat in SR2 with Shogo Akuji, really puts into place just how twisted this was. I know they're two different games like. But it gave me similar vibes
I KNEW I WASENT THE ONLY ONE!! Saint-14: "Get up..." Sav: "Please...stop..." Saint-14: "Not so fun when it is YOU being tortured is it!?" Sav: "I DIDNT KILL HIM!!" Saint-14: "You let your sister kill his ghost" *he sends her through a boulder*
The scary thing about this is that all Saint did was help savathun recover faster and better after being resurrected, which helps her in the long run. Maybe Savathun didn’t know saint was coming. If he’d caught her as she was on her way to the imbaru engine to regain strength, in him killing her so much, he did what he said and taught her how to come back healthier without it, only adding to her power. There’s a bit of speculation there for sure but from immaru’s dialogue it doesn’t sound like much had happened between him going into custody with the vanguard, putting all of them in the same spot. Maybe Saint saw this opportunity before she could get to her throne world to strike, but when Immaru came to savathun’s aid (thus inflicting imbaru because saint didn’t expect immaru to come around) that not only strengthened her engine, but strengthened her as a “guardian”. Or maybe savathun saw it coming all along, hence she didn’t put up a fight in this whole encounter.
When the lore entry describes that Void Disc hitting Savathun, I could hear the sound of it hitting in my head. The sound when a tossed Sentinel Shield hits you in PvP.
THIS VIDEO MADE ME SAD!! I love the Saint X Osiris dynamic, and seeing them hurt was a lot of emotion for eight in the morning! You’re getting REALLY good at this Byf, you can pluck heartstrings from twelve timezones away just as efficiently as if I were right next door
Is it possible Savathun cannot truly predict Saint because he is always so straightforward? He is never duplicitous. He never dissembles. He is always honest.
Ever since I learned of Saint-14 in D1, he has been one of my favorite lore pieces. Maybe because I'm a void titan main. When they brought him back I was worried he would be ruined, but I have loved everything they have done. So now he is not only some of my favorite lore... he is one of my favorite characters
I love the extra touch of lore about immaru being blinded and disrupted. Which is saints helmets exotic perk. The way mithrax described saint in the dark ages and this lore make saints ward of dawn one of the most terrifying things to be caught in.
Seriously, this succession of syllables steers seriously superfluous, so let me simply add that it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me S.
I think Savathun knew this was gonna happen; and I think she let it happen because had she thwarted Saint here, he'd have become more of a problem for her somehow. I think she was literally letting him get it out of his system. And that she cared more about her flight because she wanted to get on top of (for lack of a better description) 'res sickness'; that will be useful to her for as long as she has a Ghost.
This...i think either savathun knew or saint knew. One of them did this for a reason so savathun would be prepared for the fight against the witness. I think it was saint actually. I think thats why he explained to her how early rez works while he continually killed her. He knew it.was important and also got something out of it. I think thats why he saod it was for him, so he has allies in the fight he is about to take to the witness
I would absolutely love to see this animated in like an Arcane-style show. Destiny's lore and setting are so incredible it would be a crime to not visualize some moments in the lore and story on TV or even the big screen.
I read the echoes armor warlock gloves and it said that someone named _MRU_ made a report about the unsanctioned solo operation in savathuns throne world and claims firsthand knowledge of the event. I've read it again and I think it's immaru.
Saint literally chose violence Remember when Guardians killed crow on sight? Saint went above and beyond He did what i wanted to do to uldren after je killed cayde Jeez destiny doesnt have genever conventions. I just laughed my ass off reading what he did to her. Surprise spawn kill. Good for saint, must be a big burden of his chest
Dude i felt sorry for Crow because he had no memory of who he used to be, only to get Titan kicked multiple times in the nuts. There’s a lore entry about that. And Crow is apologetic for what his old self did. In Savathun’s case, there’s no regret or remorse even with her memories, I can’t help but laugh at the Massacre she’s received by Saint.
Remember when during Seraph Shield mission you fake surrender your guns so you can infiltrate their Ketch and just murder your way out with Elsie giggling "I cannot believe they're this dumb!"? That's also a war crime :D
Props to Saint 14 for being in a position to crush Imarru and permanently kill Savathun but... not doing it because he knows everyone else wants her alive for now. Despite everything, he still sticks to his honor.
I really want Savathun to be a long term ally. Having a Hive to add to our Fallen and Cabal allies would be cool. Plus I love her personality. Maybe Episode 3 next year is called Heresy for a reason. Her abandoning what the Hive believed in for so long and confronting her sister
"this isn't for Osiris... This is for me.." He wanted to make it clear that the azz whoopins ass possibly not over, and he's giving room for his boyfriend to deal with her as he sees fit. The cherry on top. That extra twinge of doubt. Thats the gangsta shyt I live for. Downright heart warming.
When I saw this video pop up in my notifs I was SO EXCITED to watch it... I'm so happy I did after this massive Byf binge.. This is probably one of my favourite videos on RUclips... fuck
I can just imagine that right after Savathun left our Guardian called up Saint-14 over the comms: "She just respawned bro. Heres her flight path in the Throne World. I'll distract Ikora you got an hour." Saint:"Bet. On my way now homie."
This isn't a major story beat, it's a writer doing a little emotional venting under the guise of a side story. Savathun escaping after the ritual and vanishing to the point where Ikora's network can't find her is a major story beat. Also, how did Saint find Savathun when Ikora's network couldn't...? And more importantly, if he could find and kill her, why not recapture her remains to recontain her so she isn't a further threat?
it's not a major story beat, there's not even any character development (besides savathun getting humbled a bit?), it's just a cool aside with saint getting his revenge
It makes sense Savathun didn't see Saint coming. She could easily see someone like Mara Sov coming, both schemers trying to play 80 steps ahead of the other. But you can't play 80 steps ahead of a one step plan. Your best hope is to have someone else protect you from them or make sure they are gunning for someone else first.
My idea of it is savathub good at roundabout and highly complicated plans Saint did none of these he blitzed her and she realizing that he didn't want her completely dead decided to let it happen
I'd like to think Saint is letting the point set in to Savathun that, yes, he could kill her and end her with certainty, and that despite the situation of her immunity in the grand scheme of things, he is not being deceived in some ulterior plot she has schemed. She is not having her way through deception by his hand being stayed in order to further whatever plot she has, rather, in the end, it is Saint's genuine nature. He is not being fooled, it's just simply who he is. A jolly man who is sometimes goaded into his rage, but understands that violence will beget nothing but more despair.
On a serious note, anyone who's had a loved one assulted should feel Saint, RN. Who among us wouldn't do the EXACT same thing. TBH, the witch got off light.
What I don't get is how Savathun disappeared after the end of season ritual, was too strong for Ikora to challenge after that ritual when Ikora is supposed to be at the pinnacle of Guardian power, yet Saint was able to both locate Savathun as well as beat her to death over and over when Ikora has better trackers and a network of spies as well as is stronger than Saint. This just feels like the writer doing some personal emotional venting under the guise of Saint taking revenge on Savathun for his boyfriend and himself. At least it's a cool scene, even if it doesn't make sense in lore.
Well Savathun was flying around the throne world not to hard to locate a giant moth. Plus saint ambushed her meaning just like Ikora he couldn't take her on one on one.
Ikora let Savathun go, it's in the same book from the entry before this one. Byf has a video going over it, Ikora let Savathun go at the request of Eris.
@@alderstifen7738 I know the lore, Ikora didn't *assault* Savathun at Eris's behest. Ikora would have attacked Savathun in that moment, but Savathun warned her that she wasn't in a place to be able to put Savathun down or stop her from escaping. If Ikora attacked, she very well might have gotten incapacitated or killed by Savathun, ultimately making her unable to prevent the Hive God's escape. Also, her Throne World bends to her mind and will, which is why it's supposed to be so difficult to locate her in there if not impossible. She's all about cunning and trickery, beating her on her turf is nigh impossible, and yet Saint was able to do what the Hidden and Ikora combined couldn't when he's weaker and less informed than them. Not saying he's weak- he's supposed to be an incredibly strong Titan -but the whole situation sticks out as another odd patch in the lore that requires more backbending or coincidences than the max limit allowed in a cohesive story.
@@trashjash We also killed Savathun in her throne world, arguably at the peak of her power. I agree that it's weird that Saint-14 was able to easily find her and jump her, but Saint killing her seems perfectly reasonable to me. Maybe could have had more fanfare of a fight but whatever. Also, Savathun saying Ikora was in no place to stop her is different from the reality of the matter. I'm pretty sure Ikora is supposed to be stronger than the Guardian in lore, meaning she would have no problem fighting Savathun since we (potentially) solo'd her.
This is almost exactly like that scene where one hive is torturing one of the lucent brood by killing them over and over again. I don't remember exactly where, but I distinctly remember reading it in a lore book.
That might be in one of the Lucent Tales pages, though there is one in there where it's a more than a little loopy Ghost constantly rezzing their Acolyte who keeps committing suicide that I may be confusing it with.
It’s saddens me so much when he is acting all powerful when in reality savathun is in complete controle even now, he can’t kill her and this whole interaction only shows how she has him in the palm of her hand and plays him like a fiddle emotionally and how she lives in his head rent free. The fact he can overpower her at this moment means absolutely nothing and even he knows it. Even the things he said make no sense, the hive know more helplessness than anybody… that’s why they became strong. They started off almost as the definition of helpless, powerless and hopeless. So even his taunts just fall flat. I would even go as far as to say in that moment even with savathuns life in his hands he felt more helpless and powerless than she did. It felt more like a helpless and powerless tantrum, lashing out and losing controle than it felt like a badass moment or victory and it breaks my heart. If you do see this as a victory I think you missed the message completely.
Am I the only one who felt like this didn't sit right with them? Like, the lore entry was pretty cool and raw, but I don't like what Saint did. So many people are saying things like "righteous" and "justified," but that's not really how I see it. This was The Saint coming back from the shadows for vengeance + whatever else to sate his bloodthirst.
What a nice guy Saint is to teach newer guardians like Savathun what it's like to be spawn killed in the Crucible.
Truly an admirable figure.
Yeah what a nice guy
I'd feel sorry for her but I've been there in crucible facing down guys decked out in trials gear and wondering why we don't have a skill rank system....
Yep... and that'ss only just the beginning. Wwait till she has to carry all of the AFK n00bs while dealing with 9 year veterans with twitch streams....
Immagine hive Guardians in the crucible, it will be nuts.
I was cackling reading this lore entry
All I can imagine is Immaru repeating “Guardian down, Guardian down, Guardian down” every time Saint-14 puts down Savathun.
Just his gruff voice repeating those very lines XD
Slightly more annoyed each time
Rez farmed, really got the true guardian experience.
Guardian down... Guardian down... Guar... I didn't know that could go up there... Guardian really down.... Guardian... pieces... down?
not a lucent lightbearer in sight to grab the rez
I like the little addition of Saint's ward of dawn blinding Immaru because helmets exotic perk
I didn't catch that, that's amazing
Ya know, I kinda think it's the other way around. The helmet causes Wards of Dawn to blind because Saint's Wards blind. Other guardians have unique aspects to their supers, such as Ana's Golden Gun causing molten pools of light to form where she shoots, or Shaw Han being able to buff allies by firing his into the ground. Cayde as well, as his GG directly buffed his weapon. He just always did it with Ace, but he probably could have done it with a rocket launcher.

He made her run trials?! That IS torture.
I was waiting for someone to post this!
Savathun *weakly* - “What is today?!”
Saint - *cracks knuckles* Suubota!
Savathun:”Oh?!” - *gets killed*
Saint: “Only…one..GUARDIAN…left…
*kills Savathun again*
Moments later…
Savathun:”Is this…for Osiris?!”
Saint:”Welcome to Trials OF Osiris!!”
Savathun *weakly*: I just got my god roll from watching Aztecross!!
It’s a video game
We are the man, myth and legend behind what a guardian actually is and can be. He just wants to pretend he is us.
Thanks for mentioning his stay in the Vex Forest. Previous season everyone acting all precious and serious for Sloane like she gonna break, forgetting Saint was in something very similar but nobody seemed to care nearly as much.
Lets also not forget that Saint-14 killed so many Vex in the Infinite Forest that the Vex honored him.
Atleast we can crush Immaru if we see fit.
since she is now a good character, is 1000 times weaker than when she was an enemy VGs rule
"This wasn't for Osiris. This was for me."
Yeah I cried too, big guy.
You could say this for several lore entries, but man, imagine if we got this as a 3-5 minute cutscene. Incredible.
and this is why I'm so disappointed in Bungie's narrative decisions. This is one of the most badass lore entries and it's just that... a lore entry =/
Destiny could be a whole TV series, everything from the collapse up until post-witness
Someone will probably make a comic, animatic, or animation of it, in time.
Well…to be fair, Saint has directly told us that he’s _still_ trying to follow our example, so…
Biggest difference between us and him is that he could commit a litany of Vanguard unapproved war crimes, and everyone would look away. If we did the same, we would become the villain of the story for a time (which would be really interesting).

Savathûn: *"AWW DAMN IT!!!"*
Hey, DBZA reference.
XD
Appropriate use of DBZA😂
Brilliant.
accurate
So this is the version of Saint the Eliksni fear…
I like that the Eliksni didn't stop fearing Saint because he grew weak, but because he grew wise.
Saint is no less scary at the end of that season, he's just aimed the other direction.
"The Saint"
I feel like this is a low grade Demon Saint-14. He didn’t show off everything
It makes you wonder why we don’t just send Saint on all of the missions. He seems to be more reliable when it comes to killing important enemies.
He's a dad now, needs to take care of Osiris
Most likely out of respect for his veterancy. Saint-14 is one of the oldest living titans and has experienced more time and combat than any other guardian due to being locked in the infinite forest time-loop for an unknown amount of time.
He is a beacon of hope for the last city, but he's also well beyond tired.
He has already put in more than his fair share, yet refuses to retire.
This lore entry shows exactly why. More than a little mental scarring going on.
Saint is Destiny's equivalent of the old captain who keeps saying "one last mission", reminds me a bit of RoR2 Captain
@gothmfsalem hey I thought that was Sloan's shtick.
Saints not gunna cash it just yet
I reminded of the Deadpool gif “Stupid! Worth it!!” Its Savathûn, of course she may have had an idea that Saint might take a swing at her. But like Immaru said, “Already?” First chance Saint got, he opened up that can of whoop ass. Even if it plays into her plans somehow, it was cathartic.
Saint just had this cartoonishly long list of ways to end Savathun and crossed off every entry one by one… including shoving the list down her throat to make her suffocate
They've no one to blame but themselves
I like to imagine Saint killing her in new and interesting ways each time
Given what Saint-14's helm does, this puts a while new meaning on the term "blind fury."
I was thinking the exact same thing. Especially the line, “I will teach you”… I get hyped just thinking about it!
He ain't the equivalent of the DOOM Slayer to TWO alien races for a reason.
@@J-manliAnd one of those Aliens are THE VEX of all people

Love the fact that Saint-14 exotic helmet went into affect and messed with Immaru. Classic Void Titan, pummeling someone to death inside the dome.
I like that. Like a bull.
But he was faster than the others, just the sight of the flag was enough to set him off. And that truly surprised her
@destinyFlavorText be the bull.

@@AtlasNYC_ but how? We see savvy get her throat slit and also see other enemies and allies get killed so whats the difference?
@@justinchamberlin4195 Supers and abilities work differently in the lore. The limits we have are purely for gameplay balance reasons.
He can shove his pride aside and swallow down his hatred for her as long as it gives a chance for humanity to survive
But Saint can't deal with it that way.
It was about making her feel helpless, just like he was.)
Anyways bungie's ability to write stories about trauma and the nuances of it fuckin excel as usual. They might not win in all things, but anything hive-related seems to be their aim assist for story bangers

It would have been so cool to see Saint 14 putting Savathun in the thunderdome and giving her the beat down of her life
I'm pretty sure this was just a tiny fraction of what Saint has waiting for Savathun when there is no reason for him to hold back any longer. When that day comes, I'm sure Eris could start from scratch in becoming a Hive God of Vengence again and would only need one person to tithe to her to get it done in a single conflict.
i love the little nod to the helm of saint 14 giving a blinding effect inside of the bubble. Things like that to me is really what ties the lore to the gameplay and makes me appreciate it significantly more.
i agree
The Guardian: I killed Savathun.
Eris and Saint-14: not much of a milestone anymore...
We killed her at least twice in the final fight... and both with the intent on handing out a final death.

Sav: "Please...stop..."
Saint-14: "Not so fun when it is YOU being tortured is it!?"
Sav: "I DIDNT KILL HIM!!"
Saint-14: "You let your sister kill his ghost" *he sends her through a boulder*
I want a tshirt with "You do not know how it feels to be helpless - I will teach you" // "I will teach you" over a picture of Saint-14's Helm
When the lore entry describes that Void Disc hitting Savathun, I could hear the sound of it hitting in my head.
The sound when a tossed Sentinel Shield hits you in PvP.
It was then that Savathun realized that she got off easy with Eris.
Saint-14 once again reminded the world that he is actually bad ass
Is it possible Savathun cannot truly predict Saint because he is always so straightforward?
He is never duplicitous. He never dissembles. He is always honest.
Ever since I learned of Saint-14 in D1, he has been one of my favorite lore pieces. Maybe because I'm a void titan main.
When they brought him back I was worried he would be ruined, but I have loved everything they have done. So now he is not only some of my favorite lore... he is one of my favorite characters
Just hope this doesn't come back to haunt the lovebirds whenever we need to take care of Savathun.
I love the extra touch of lore about immaru being blinded and disrupted. Which is saints helmets exotic perk. The way mithrax described saint in the dark ages and this lore make saints ward of dawn one of the most terrifying things to be caught in.
Stone-cold Saint supressing Savathun successively
Always great! Savathun has only begun to pay for her crimes. Saint-14 destroying her multiple times is something I would do as well as a guardian.
I would absolutely love to see this animated in like an Arcane-style show. Destiny's lore and setting are so incredible it would be a crime to not visualize some moments in the lore and story on TV or even the big screen.
after watching us res farm people in trials,
saint: *ITS FREE REAL ESTATE*
I read the echoes armor warlock gloves and it said that someone named _MRU_ made a report about the unsanctioned solo operation in savathuns throne world and claims firsthand knowledge of the event.
I've read it again and I think it's immaru.
Saint literally chose violence
Remember when Guardians killed crow on sight?
Saint went above and beyond
He did what i wanted to do to uldren after je killed cayde
Jeez destiny doesnt have genever conventions.
At some time saint probably only stopped because his rage went cold and he finally burnt out, and at that point he was just tired
I really want Savathun to be a long term ally. Having a Hive to add to our Fallen and Cabal allies would be cool. Plus I love her personality. Maybe Episode 3 next year is called Heresy for a reason. Her abandoning what the Hive believed in for so long and confronting her sister
Saint-14: Savathûn… you have elected the way of pain! 🥊
I love your reading of the lore entries. Your voice is great. It paints a better picture of the lore than a wall of text.
Tithe unto the keeper of the lore! Aiat!
"this isn't for Osiris... This is for me.."
He wanted to make it clear that the azz whoopins ass possibly not over, and he's giving room for his boyfriend to deal with her as he sees fit.
The cherry on top. That extra twinge of doubt.
Thats the gangsta shyt I live for. Downright heart warming.
I do have a feeling that both Osiris and Savathun will become reconciled to each other, even if only sufficient to tackle the Witness.
When I saw this video pop up in my notifs I was SO EXCITED to watch it... I'm so happy I did after this massive Byf binge.. This is probably one of my favourite videos on RUclips... fuck
Oh if this ain't satisfying, Saint finally getting revenge on Savathun.
I would’ve loved a cutscene for this. It’s these moments in the lore that need to shine with more than just a wall of text.
That last line really hit me in the feels man. It really is a tragic yet heartwarming moment to see someone so strong show his emotions like that. 🤧
I can just imagine that right after Savathun left our Guardian called up Saint-14 over the comms:
"She just respawned bro. Heres her flight path in the Throne World. I'll distract Ikora you got an hour."
Saint:"Bet. On my way now homie."
I was wondering what saints insignia was doing on the rites of passage book.
Good to know now 👍
man. they love each other so fucking much bro
WHY DIDNT WE SEE THIS IN A CUTSCENE FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!
Savathuun: how dare you little guardian lay your hands on a hive god!
Saint: KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OF MY MAN!
I love when major story beats are revealed through random text
This isn't a major story beat, it's a writer doing a little emotional venting under the guise of a side story. Savathun escaping after the ritual and vanishing to the point where Ikora's network can't find her is a major story beat. Also, how did Saint find Savathun when Ikora's network couldn't...? And more importantly, if he could find and kill her, why not recapture her remains to recontain her so she isn't a further threat?
@@trashjash we have her ghost... so yeah...
it's not a major story beat, there's not even any character development (besides savathun getting humbled a bit?), it's just a cool aside with saint getting his revenge
“Let me solo her.” - Saint-14, probably
This became my favorite lore piece…pretty much ever.
My idea of it is savathub good at roundabout and highly complicated plans Saint did none of these he blitzed her and she realizing that he didn't want her completely dead decided to let it happen
Saint-14 popping a domain expansion on savathicc is timeless
Tbfh, I could easily see an alternative telling where he did indeed take matters into his own hands, snapped Immaru, and finished Savathün.
21 second gang also another good video Byf Keep it up LoreFather
I was here when itd only been up for 12 seconds lol
@@DarkDisc1 ayyy that's what I like brother
Just wish we could’ve seen this on screen. Would’ve been a hell of a cutscene
He has every right to, let's be honest.
I think I have an alter age title for this video: Saint-14 goes to Therapy
What I don't get is how Savathun disappeared after the end of season ritual, was too strong for Ikora to challenge after that ritual when Ikora is supposed to be at the pinnacle of Guardian power, yet Saint was able to both locate Savathun as well as beat her to death over and over when Ikora has better trackers and a network of spies as well as is stronger than Saint. This just feels like the writer doing some personal emotional venting under the guise of Saint taking revenge on Savathun for his boyfriend and himself. At least it's a cool scene, even if it doesn't make sense in lore.
I mean we’ve already infiltrated her throne world, and it’d be hard to miss a “Giant Flying Hive God with Giant Moth Wings”
I love Saint-14 so much. He's got that rare combination of absurdly badass and incredibly compassionate that just really resonates with me.
It's nice that Saint got that out of his system lol
Like Amanda when she shot Crow.
Saint really became a speedrunner and got the world record beating Eris' time
hardcore gay couple, killing god who hurt his boyfriend
Sav: I'm gonna report you...OH MY GOD DUDE LET ME GO
Savathun officially losing her god status means she's going to shrink to a more manageable size like Eramis during Season of Plunder.
Saint spawn camped savathicc 😂
It wasn't a victory. It was pure, cold, revenge. Nothing more.
So sick and tired of actual good story moments not making it into the game.
Saint-14 doing his best impersonation of the Doom Slayer
Am I the only one who felt like this didn't sit right with them? Like, the lore entry was pretty cool and raw, but I don't like what Saint did. So many people are saying things like "righteous" and "justified," but that's not really how I see it. This was The Saint coming back from the shadows for vengeance + whatever else to sate his bloodthirst.
This loretab is the very definition of “when you unlock the final boss as a playable character”
Saint-14 has always been one of my favorite guardians ever.
I was excited to hear that his Helm had the blinding effect in the lore tab. Love when bungie gets those little details in there.
Your voice acting was soooo good and I really liked your script - very insightful. Great video!
I love when titans are such badasses. This is why you don't screw with someone's boyfriend
