Great job..I’ve been visiting many websites for a portrait paint teacher..think I found it here..especially these learn from the masters..some artists paint like it’s a photo and frankly I don’t like that, I want it to look like someone’s personality is attached to the work, great job

Yupari Artist is right one should not dwell on the 1 to 1(AKA 100% exact) likeness that much. In my opinion once a person get to at least 85% likeness go work on the other portions of their art skills. Then come back later and see if you can bump it up to 90% or higher. I don't think ANYBODY will ever have a PERFECT COPY of someone's face or picture. We all perceive people differently.
Getting up to 90%+ likeness is finally turning off that part of your brain that is painting what you recall what you see. What you want to do is actually paint what you see. The way to do this is to not look at the canvas for so long and mostly look at the subject. Let your hand MOVE to the shape of the subject rather than thinking about what should be on the canvas.
For example, look at an object for 10 seconds then go into another room and try to draw it by recalling it from memory. Now go back to the object and compare them. Looks bad doesn't it? That image you recalled from your brain is the image you are painting when looking AND painting on the canvas when you don't look back at the reference/object for more than 4 seconds.
It's like playing a first person shooter. If the screen stopped refreshing every 10 seconds would that be helpful in making a decision? No it wouldn't. So we have the screen refresh at 60 frames per second so that we can make a real-time decision rather than a guess.
To do this in painting you need to constantly shift your eyes from the subject to the painting and move your strokes in the shape of the subject/object. Every stroke should take no more than 3 seconds or less. Otherwise you are now recalling what you saw.
Now let me just say you can move back and stare at the subject and your to compare as long as you want ... SO LONG AS YOU ARE NOT PUTTING STROKES DOWN.
For example you can step back to look at it for 10 seconds then go back in and start painting again.
However if you are just glanced at the subject for 3 seconds or less then looked at the painting and are making changes to the painting without looking at the subject for over 4 seconds, your are definitely painting that recollection memory from your mind and not the actual subject. You are painting what you think you saw and not what you actually saw.
This is what decides likeness. The fight between what you actually see and what you think you see.
There is no artist in the world that has 100% likeness that fight will be a long one and may never be won.
TRUST YUPARI ARTIST!!!! He realized this in a different way a long time ago!!! Don't waste your time dwelling on likeness when there are other things you can focus on fixing faster.
