This experience is even more memorable because I’m jumping with Sam Hardy, one of my original BASE mentors, who introduced me to the sport in 2017. Sharing this moment with someone who was pivotal in my journey is a full-circle experience. There's something extraordinary about sharing the sky with a friend and mentor, someone who’s been there from the beginning, and now, getting to fly alongside them is a moment I’ll never forget.
Monte Brento, located in the breathtaking Trentino-Alto Adige/South Tyrol region of northern Italy, near Dro and the stunning Lake Garda, is the perfect playground for wingsuit BASE jumpers. Lake Garda (Lago di Garda), Italy's largest lake, adds a magical touch to the scenery, surrounded by the towering peaks of the Brenta Dolomites, a majestic mountain range in the Italian Alps. This spot is world-renowned for its towering vertical cliffs and nearly perfect jumping conditions.
The summit of Monte Brento sits at 1,540 meters (5,052 feet) above sea level, offering a jaw-dropping vertical height for wingsuit flyers. From the exit point, the vertical drop is about 1,200 meters (3,937 feet), giving jumpers plenty of time for an adrenaline-pumping flight before safely deploying their parachutes.
Monte Brento is relatively easy to access, unlike some more remote BASE jumping locations. After a ride up to the trailhead and a scenic hike through the mountains, you arrive at exit point, making it a convenient yet thrilling adventure for jumpers. It’s an accessible spot for both wingsuit enthusiasts and those new to BASE jumping, which makes it even more popular.
Monte Brento offers stable wind conditions and relatively favorable weather, which are ideal for both wingsuit flights and traditional BASE jumps. These consistent conditions make it a reliable destination for jumpers who want a safe yet exhilarating experience. The weather here allows for year-round jumping, making it one of Europe's most frequented legal BASE sites.
