Thanks for sharing your thoughts and adventures. Great to see you getting your son involved, I truly believe that kind of experience goes a long way. Walls all look great. Stay safe, wishing you and your family the best.
Mike I can well understand how running your own business works. While farming I had a carpenter business. My wife and I lived/owned four houses before this one. All of them where works in progress. The biggest thing I always found when I was younger is when I had the time I rarely had the money to work with. When I had the money (busy times) I then did not have the time. My wife has teased me for years about If she sees me finishing hanging all of the interior doors she needs to start packing as I must have sold the house. LOL
The drone flyover definitely shows how much of the limestone boulders you have used between your place and your brothers. It’s all random and hard to work with but you made it look great. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice little change up on this one and I must say those walls are looking great around your property. We have dry stone walls here in Scotland that outdate the Castles still standing in the land they partition. My dad used to build them occasionally on the farms around our Island and apparently it is a highly skilled job knowing what stone fits exactly where when you pick it up. So he used to tell me anyway 😉👍🏼
I find that setting rock walls can be some of the most frustrating work you can do but when finished it’s so rewarding. Looking good Mike! Oh yeah nice hat! 👍🏻
Deja vu watching this one, got to see it all this time !!! You certainly have plenty of space there between you and your brothers house.... just far enough apart not to be on top of each other all the time!!! The missus is mightily impressed with your house, and the views too !!! Hyundai is getting it done Mike!! 😎😎😎
I lived in Minnesota for many years and built 4 houses. All were on Clay. If it rained, it was slippery as all get out. At my sisters house, the front steps were on a grade and trying to back a cement truck in was difficult as he would slide down the hill sideways trying to approach. If we worked on site after a rain, our boots felt like they weighed 20 lbs. Now here on the mountain in South Dakota the soil, what little there is of it, is very granular. It can rain and it really doesn't stop work. I've never had muddy boots here. The downside is I have to haul in material for grading a yard. I've hauled a dozen loads in already and will need a few more as we develop the property.
Hey Dirty great video and we just wanted you and the wifey to know that we thank ya'll so much for being amazing parents the entire family and also all the friends love ya'll thanks again Dirty thumbs up my friends we are extremely Proud of ya'll
Actually Mike, usually those holes are for a cable that the guys at the crusher use to pull the rock out when it is too big and gets stuck. That one did look like a blasting hole, it was pretty big and very round, but ones that don't look as nice are like I said.
I know how your brother feels, I had a water leak and my son is doing the rebuild for me, he has a full time fire LT and has a landscaping business. Then with the virus stuff my house has been a construction zone for a year and 1/2, been living with the mess for this time. Waiting for it to get done to get $ from the insurance. When you're busy, you're busy. As much as I would like it done, it'll get done when it's done!!
the rocks with holes in i use for exterior lighting posts... i used two for the pond fountain, looks great now its weathered in some.... i also made a V trenching bucket at the week end, i aint paying a grand when i got a small trench bucket i dont use and i converted it for less than 50 bucks lol
Hey Mike. How you like those slip on work boots. Thinking of getting me a pair. And we're did you get em. Love that wall. Those concrett ones don't look that good I think but that's me. Another perfect job done !! Lol
Great job, up near the Michigan and Ohio state lines in northern Indiana we have yellow and blue clay same sticky mess when wet , like concrete when dry .
I've viewing and following your videos now for over a year, which leeds me to the following... I'm kinda surprised, with your background that you didn't install perforated drain pipe behind the wall when you built it. Thus avoiding the conditions you're now trying to remedy. Either way I still enjoy viewing your vids!
Glad to see you have red clay. Thought we were the only ones having to deal with that stuff. Where I live in GA I have red clay and rocks. Need heavy equipment just to plant anything .
When I was as stationed in texas, a buddy and went to see his folks in Oklahoma. We took a side trip out muffin and had the tunes cranked up. I heard him say as he pointed, "Go over there." Instantly got stuck in in red gumbo clay. He turned down the radio and said, "I said 'DON'T go over there' " So, yeah. That clay doesn't mess around.
Michelle I must say, You’re pretty good at building walls. Very impressive. Best I’ve ever seen. Keep up the good work! - this was my attempt at a nice comment. How did I do?😁😇
That's a nice little project. It's funny that a lot of us contractors spend all day every day doing the same type of job that's sitting at our house waiting to get done and somehow we always postpone it to go do someone else's job. Lol...
They look like nice rocks to work with. We get some like that. But most our retainer walls. We gotta use our native round boulders. Tough to work with being. Alot of them round
For a camera for the end of your Bucket check out a backup camera for vehicles that come with a screen as well. I have seen them for $40 to $100 quick and easy install
I'd cut anothe swale into that hillside about 1/2 way between the current one and the fence line. Divert as much water as possible before it gets to the swale next to the boulders.
When I was running the blade for the township I couldn't convince them to dig the clay out of the hillside and cut the hill down in a few places they thought throwing truckloads of rock at it was the answer every rain over 1/4 inch the road looked like it was crying red and grey streaks and by the time it had dried the center of the road was at least 6 inches below the bottom of the ditch so I finally convinced them they supply the fuel is dig the clay out cover the limestone ledges it was on with good dirt from ditches in my pasture where I wanted ponds after that was laid in and rocked the ditches would still get clay from the other side of the ditch but the road held and my ponds held water and when the ditches would fill I'd just go grab the clay and stockpile it for pond patches the dirt track me and the kids ran at even bought some from the township so they made their fuel cost back and I got paid to truck it before the clay went down it was a turkey sh@t track it was nice with a sprinkle of the watertruck before hotlaps it would slick up and rubber up as it dried but a race after a rain was like driving in soup
You should let him sit on your lap when your in the excavator and show him controls and let him get some scoops because my father did that with me when I was really young and now he said I'm better than alot of operators and will benefit you on the future if you are busy and you need him to load a dumptruck or something 👍
Live west of the Mississippi. And there is a Gray clay here that when it rains you cannot drive a vehicle through it Will, get between your wheels in your fenders and lock your wheels up.
Them drill holes are from where the blasters stemmed the hole which is a small aggregate that is put on top of the blasting agent to hold energy in the rock so it the cap rock and from the looks of it they held 4 to 5 feet I’m a retired driller and blaster don’t know if anyone cares but my two cents
Nice job, nice equipment all put to good use & Gunner too! I see that straw mat and wonder what you think of it for use growing grass seed? AND been meaning to ask a few of you how you just love the ability of having the DRONE! I mean, where has life been? Thanks for another. Sonny (CT)
I was channeling Pink Floyd’s “Just Another Brick In The Wall” when you were wrestling with those fallen boulders. Don’t know why... but I was. Did it help? The whole job came out nice... hope it works a slick as it looks.

@@DirtPerfect yup and I already have enough on my plate being in the ICU for the one on one care because my digestive system is no longer functioning. Here are some really good, tough camera options.... dakotamicro.com/product-category/agcam/ Here in South Texas we are pretty flat and have a lot of top soil. Some have black land which is black clay and it moves and is very unstable to build on, when wet it is super slick and sticks to everything, when dry you could loose a foot in it. We don't get to red clay until like 10ft deep.
