Still is. Every now & then there's a few fanatics that call it some of Opeth's best work. I find the "how can U not like this, don't get the hate" absurd. It makes a lot of sense why it's so divisive, don't expect people to like certain changes.
I still mourn the loss of old Opeth, though I like a lot of their post Watershed output. I get bored with the proggy ass keyboard heavy songwriting these days though. I don't even care about the death metal vocals being gone, I just miss the metal sounding songwriting.
'Born Again' is a criminally underrated Sabbath album in my opinion. A track like 'Disturbing the Priest' might just be their most sinister song all together; Ian sounds downright possessed! 🤘
I too fucking love Born Again. I hope Iommi remasters it though, as the production is a bit muddled. Iommi did a great job on Dehumanizer and the Tony Martin albums so I have my fingers crossed.
@@StephenBobick-dh9ie I actually don't find the production on that album too bad either, but It could do with a touch up in the form of a remastering, I agree.. 👍

Into The Pandemonium - Inner Sanctum alone is worth the price of admission. It was influential because it was an early example of experimental extreme metal. Some hits and misses but I appreciate the courage to be different. Black Album - It is a very good hard rock album. I like it.
I’d love to see a park two to this video, and I’d include I Loved Ypu At Your Darkest since that average is a 53% on metal archives and I kinda like that album Keep up the great work!
I love Black Sabbath - Born Again. Ian Gillan's vocals are incredible on that album. Trashed, Disturbing The Priest, Zero The Hero, Digital Bitch, Born Again... There's some killer tracks on it and I think it's the doomiest Sabbath album not from the Ozzy era. Born Again is my favorite non Ozzy Black Sabbath album.
I remember a friend of mine edited a version of Catch 33 that's all one singular song instead of a bunch of separated parts. I should see if I can find that again.
Slayer - South of Heaven Fear Factory - Digimortal Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son Death - Spiritual Healing Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil I actually enjoy these albums but a lot of folks i've talked to about them seem to be divided on these.
@@joshthefunkdoc It does rank high on a lot of lists but there's always a fair amount of Iron Maiden fans who seem to dislike it whenever i chat with other fans online. Maybe it's just some grumpy metal elitists that hate the more progressive style they took.
@@matthewb.1372 - it was divisive at the time - as was Somewhere in Time - they were using a lot of synth pedals so that even if it was guitar, it had a synth sound which turned a lot of people off. The songs were longer, often slower, and the sound was super-produced. I loved this era, but a lot of fans thought they had lost something or 'sold out' compared to the Number of the Beast and Powerslave era.
Crack the Skye is my favorite album of all time, so The Hunter was a HUGE disappointment. Leading up to it, the quotes from the band members made it sound like Mastodon’s version of the Black Album which it absolutely is. There are a handful of good songs, but I don’t think I’ve listened to it in full in at least 10 years.
Opeth's Heritage. I wouldn't even call it a metal album but divisive? Fuck yeah it is. I also saw the entire thing played live with Mastodon playing The Hunter in it's entirety directly afterwards.
Great vid as always. Some of my thoughts: Catch Thirtythree - not terrible but a whole lotta meh coming from Nothing. Hell, the Nothing remix that came a year after this was way more interesting Untouchables - my favorite Korn album lol. The way the first 10 tracks flow is unbelievable. I love how they maxed tf out here then crashed and burned afterwards for almost 2 decades lol. The Nothing and Requiem are great comeback albums tho The Crusade - i didn't hate it back then but Sanctity made a much better modern thrash album the very next year. Wish they would get back together Steal This Album - this was fun. Mr. Jack and Roulette are S-tier songs in their discog imo. Wouldn't rank any of their albums in any order as there are only 5 and every one is enjoyable The Hunter - their worst album for sure. Half listenable and half slogfest. Haven't listened to this in over a decade and i don't plan on doing so any time soon lol Vol 3 - me likey very much aside from the drum sound. Sounds like Joey stole Lars' St. Anger kit. Results May Vary - Eat You Alive rules. Everything else sucks ass so bad, it's hilarious Black Album - the most overrated album of all time imo. The God That Failed is the only track I genuinely love
Great list! Another would be fun. My suggestions: Trivium "Silence In The Snow" Soilwork "Figure Number Five" Opeth "Watershed" Iron Maiden "A Matter Of Life And Death" Amon Amarth "Jomsviking" Judas Priest "Turbo" Slayer "Divine Intervention" Gojira "Magma" I love all of these alb7ms, but they all have a lot of detractors.
I’d argue Heritage was a more divisive album than Watershed. That was where they basically completely abandoned their death metal elements and went full on classic prog.
As a long long long time Slayer fan, I hated Divine Intervention at the time. Part of it was that Dave Lombardo left (and he's my favourite drummer of all time) and it *felt* different because of that, but also the songs just were not as good as Seasons in the Abyss (or anything that came before). The sound was wrong, the songs were weak, the whole thing was just off. Is probably the only Slayer album (ok, along with Diabolus in Musica) that I never listen to.
@Mattalica-ss9pj i agree. I hate that album. The production sucked and Paul's drumming sounds like a drum machine with no feel as like you I grew up with Dave on the drums and I saw them at Aftershock and Gary was good but Paul sucked ass as he was slow and his double bass was sloppy
Late to the party but thanks for the shoutout. I'd say the latest Unleash the Archers album falls under the divisive category, especially because of the AI element. Also Judas Priest's Turbo was highly divisive at the time and still is because of the poppier sound. The Black Album is still the very definition of divisive though.
@@billymercury3897 - that's a meh era for me. I grew up with Joey Belladonna on vocals and hated the change, which was not only a change in vocals, but rather EVERYTHING. The songs/riffs just were not as good. Sound of White Noise had a couple of great songs, but then a whole lot of nothing until Joey came back.
Steal This Album is excellent, and it's a shame there wasn't more singles from it. Mr Jack is an all time classic. The Hunter was like a handbrake getting slammed on for me. While it's not bad, it really did nothing for me, and the stuff I've heard from every Mastodon album after has the same effect too.
Good list! If you do a part 2, here's a few of my suggestions: Slayer - Divine Intervention Paradise Lost - Host My Dying Bride - 34.788% Complete Tool - Fear Inoculum (might be too obvious?) Mayhem - Grand Declaration of War Children of Bodom - Are You Dead Yet I'm mainly basing these off what I've heard from my circle, so maybe they aren't THAT divisive, but those are some of the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
NM on the Tool pick. Didn't realize you already talked about it in that first one you did. Honestly I loved Fear Inoculum. I kinda think people hated it because it was quieter and slower, but you can't expect a band like Tool to pump out the same album every time.
Divine Intervention is so good. I was around when it came out and I always understood the luke warm reaction to have more to do with the changing “image” than the music. The lyrics and video’s were more focused on politics and society, and less about satanic, evil imagery. The same thing happened to Obituary with World Demise, which was a total banger in its own right. Both albums also brought in some more groove, but this hardly slowed the bands down or took the edge off.
I'd always thought that Crack The Skye was if anything a bit underwhelming in comparison with the previous three albums (still great imo but I liked Blood Mountain better), and was delighted when I heard The Hunter because I found it a refreshing change in the band's sonic direction, which Once More 'Round The Sun continued pretty well. Eventually though the hatred towards that album started to infect me and my opinion soured -- if but slightly -- so now I consider it on par with that one. Similar with 10,000 Days: I was never able to get into Lateralus, and just found the "time signature experimentation" boring when groups varying from Gentle Giant and King Crimson to The Dillinger Escape Plan were able to pull off way more interesting and innovative ways of doing this. I didn't dislike Lateralus all too much, just thought it was really overrated and that they peaked with Ænima. So, after listening to 10,000 Days, it took me a while but I eventually grew to like it more than its predecessor.
Absolutely love this video - so much to talk about! In Flames - 14 Songs of Conscious Insanity is not only the album that introduced me to them, but the album that got me into them. This and LoG's As The Palaces Burn are the albums responsible for widening my metal pallet from thinking Slipknot and Mudvayne were the heaviest bands I listened to. This is an absolute top 10 of all time albums for me personally. Trivium's The Crusade was my intro to the band because one of the tracks was on a Guitar Hero game. The "we have Metallica at home" tagline is SPOT ON though, and the album just isn't very good unfortunately. It's one thing to be a kindred spirit to another band, this just felt like they said - lets make a Metallica album. I absolutely love Mastodon. However, The Hunter, IMHO - began an almost 10 year stretch of releases where everything they put out was...forgettable at best. It wasn't until Hushed and Grim that I fell in love with them again. I find myself in the very rare category of neither loving or hating Slipknot's Vol. 3. I like the majority of the album, however like the following All Hope is Gone, I find it OK. As an OG Korn fan, my favorite band from High School - Untouchables is easily the worst album with the original line-up. The first track is an absolute banger, and then it all falls apart. This was a fun video man!
Silence in the Snow was arguably the album that helped me break into metal as a wider genre so I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on that album! I find it interesting as from my understanding it was made during Matt’s voice recovery and I believe he does things a touch differently if he played those songs live since though I haven’t seem them. I’ve learned to appreciate The Crusade but it’s more toward the bottom for me personally, especially since Ascendancy is my #2 or 3 Trivium album and it came out just before it. As for more divisive albums, you could arguably put any Cynic album after the first here (I’d say Kindly Bent to Free Us is that one for me), as well as Linkin Park’s Minutes to Midnight and maybe Blood Incantation’s Timewave Zero.
I have known Trivium for a very long time. I've been listening to their singles since like In Waves, but the point when I FINALLY got into the band was when What the dead men say was released just few years ago. This album is a fucking banger! And after getting into it I started discovering their discography further and now I like every single album a lot. It's hard to rank their albums since they're all so good, but my top 3 is Silence in the snow, In the court of the dragon and What the dead men say. Yes, I love their newer stuff!
Suggestions! Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears Megadeth - Cryptic Writings Edit: I originally mentioned Volume 3, then a minute later I hear you mention it lmao. I love that but yeah, music's subjective.
Do you think Megadeth' Risk was more divisive or did many fans consider it a bomb? I personally grew to not only appreciate it but actually love it down the road. What about you?
@@joshthefunkdoc I think Risk as reached that low state in which the band itself doesn't acknowledge its existence anymore. Like, for example, Destruction's experience with nu-metal, The Least Successful Human Cannon Ball.
I might be one of many few, but I love Swansong. Remove what has come before it, & it's a great album by itself. Tomorrow Belongs To Nobody, Blackstar, Room 101, Don't Believe A Word & my highlight of the album Go To Hell are brilliant. But I can understand why people might hate it.
I genuinely loved Untouchables as I was in middle school when it acme out, and it helped me through some really dark times times. Swansong is a fun album, and I love the song Cross My Heart. The Hunter took a while for me to get into, but once I did I genuinely loved it, and I go back to it quite often. In terms of albums, I have to add Chimera by Mayhem. The elitist black metal fans hate the production, but it is honestly my favourite Mayhem album. I've truly never heard anything like it.
Chimera is MILES ahead of the other Mayhem albums (and at the time most other black metal bands/albums) in so many ways. BUT, i get why its pretty divisive. MY personal fave of theirs.
I actually like Born Again. Not all songs are bangers but it's still pretty heavy, catchy and enjoyable. Ian Gillan with Black Sabbath works, against all odds. Seventh Star on the other hand....
As a massive Type O Negative fan, I've seen Bloody Kisses and October Rust on lists like these, when compared to Slow, Deep and Hard and Origin... (and to an extent, the two Carnivore albums)
Cannibal Corpse’s cover of Zero the Hero from Born Again is kinda hilarious and awesome, even though I don’t care much for that particular Black Sabbath song or album. I didn’t think Roots was that huge a departure from Chaos A.D. If it had come out right after Arise, it probably would have been more jarring. I feel like the original critical reception was really good before people stopped liking it and then the consensus seemed to change again with most people liking it now.
I feel a few of the later albums from Morbid Angel could easily be on here, but I'll specifically point to the most recent one, Kingdoms Disdained. The response to that one was all over the place. Some people thought it was a return to form and their best work in years, some people thought it was as bad, if not worse, than Illud Divinum Insanus, and there were people who thought it was just a very by-the-numbers late career OSDM album and forgot about it almost instantly. Very odd case, that one.
For part 2: - Marduk - Viktoria - Slayer - God hates us all - Metallica - Load - Cannibal corpse - Butchered at birth - Immortal - Battles in the north
@@alchapo5372 I´m referring to the rankings i´ve seen online. Some people say it´s the best of the latest era and some others put it in the last 2 albums of the discography. I personally like a few tracks on it but the album as a whole is pretty mid for me.
Great list. Personally i feel like Roots was the culmination of all the proceeding albums...like, of course a Brazilian metal band is going to incorporate traditional elements in their music at some point, and Roots was it. Awesome album
Pretty cool video. I personally like Born Again. It's inconsistent, but when it hits, it hits. The title track is actually my favorite. I think Metallica's Load is a good album, but I think of it as a hard rock album more than metal. It's more introspective to me somehow. I might have a few for the list... Judas Priest - Turbo: I like a lot of this. Turbo Lover is 80's epic. Judas Priest - Point of Entry: I genuinely love this album. To me, it's an evolution of British Steel. Desert Plains is amazing. AC/DC - Fly On The Wall: Hard rock, yes, but I seem to be the only one who actually really enjoys this album, so I stick up for it. Iron Maiden - X Factor & Virtual XI: Blaze Bayley had an impossible job but he still made some great songs. I'll die on that hill.
I was a Tool fan as a teen and was excited for 10000 Days and was fairly disappointed when it released. There are great songs on there, but songs like The Pot made me physically cringe away from the speakers, and it overall felt like the indulgence that many people accuse the band of. Having said that I also really enjoyed Vol 3 Subliminal Verses and do so to this day so my musical taste cannot be relied upon as a decent judge of quality I guess
In the late 80s and 90s I was on a mission that seemed strange at the time but was mirrored by others like Dave Grohl to find some of the most twisted and dark shit I could find. Celtic Frost with Morbid Tales was one of the front runners (I was also very taken by album covers). I took home Into the Pandemonium, threw it on my sound system, heard the first 2 songs and more or less gave up on Celtic Frost.
I would say i AM in the middle ground when it comes to Slipknot's Vol. 3 as i do like it a lot and that was my starting point with the band. Still, in no way do i think this is where they "found their sound" as it was all there with the debut, MFKR is where they were actually "looking for it" and Vol. 3 just saw Corey being inspired by Stone Sour's style as they had their debut out. In my opinion they never topped the quality of their 1999 self-titled album. But the first 4 records as they had the classic 9 lineup are all great in their own right.
Man, I love most of the albums listed here. But i'm also a person who likes and actually wants to hear bands do different things. Rather than making the same album over and over again, which is sadly what most people seem to want. The Black Album Roots Born Again Endorama The Hunter Swansong Into The Pandemonium Steal This Album All are great. The others mentioned may be as well, I'm just not a fan of those bands so I don't know the albums. Another one I would add is Morbid Angel - Illud Divinum Insanus. Most people hate it but once again I love it. They tried something different and it's great.
Another album that's divisive album is hypocrisy catch 22 a lot of people who hate it beacuse it's more on the industrial/nu metal side but I actually like some of the songs off it especially destroyed, edge of madness, anyway great video dude like always 🙂🤘
Divisive albums by Power Metal bands I can think of: Blind Guardian - A Twist In The Myth HammerFall - Infected Sabaton - Metalizer Helloween - Chameleon Savatage - Fight For The Rock
A Twist in the Myth seems to be one of the lowest-rated BG albums overall from what ive seen, think A Night at the Opera would be a better pick (it might actually be my fav of theirs period)
Yeah, I think is pretty mid. It's sort of like how I feel about Scream aim fire by Bullet. Both album are full of some of my favourite songs by hith bands, but when they're on I find myself wanting to listen to.... pretty much anything else once I pass those few good tracks
I agree. It's my second favorite Sepultura album (Arise is #1). But, looking broader, it is such a classic metal album, exploring that Nu Metal territory with an interesting injection of traditional rhythms/chants/instruments. Some of the forest ambience and native chants are intense and set such a cool vibe. Try hiking at night by headlamp with that shit on your earbuds :)
It set the blueprint for indigenous metal -- bands like Shepherds Reign (a New Zealand band with Polynesian (I think, mostly - or all - Samoan) band members owe everything to Sepultura for showing the way.
@@StephenBobick-dh9ie - Yeah, Arise and Beneath the Remains are my 1 and 2 for Sepultura, but I still liked Roots a lot when it came out. Just listened to it again yesterday and it holds up as a great album. I am more likely to listen to Roots than Chaos AD (even though Chaos AD has some absolutely killer songs on it).
1000% agree on The Hunter. The only redeeming songs on that album are Black Tongue and Stargasm, but it's just a precursor to the decade plus of hot ass they've released after this. I also can get the gripes with Catch 33 with how some of the songs are just...there for a lack of a better term beyond Mind's Mirrors through In Death - Is Life/Death. And that RLM clip fucking popped me. Hearing Mike or Jay just go "How embarassing" is kek.
I'll take Steal This Album, 10,000 Days and Vol 3 due to nostalgia. Granted i dont listen to them much at all these days , but i'll put some respectpa on their names.
Reroute to remain is still my favorite In Flames record. Endorama isn't as bad as many might say it is. Still gets frequent plays from me. Roots is awesome.
I was 14 when the black album was released. I remember watching the world premiere video for Enter Sandman, and when it ended I thought “is that it? There’s gotta be more.” I’ve grown to like Sad But True but the rest of the album doesn’t do it for me.
I remember pre-ordering Untouchables, waiting months for the CD to release, got home put it on and then listened to it once or twice and never listened to any new Korn again, possibly the first new release disappointment I ever had.
10,000 Days, Reroute to Remain and Vol 3 I really don't get the hate for. Tool never miss and 10,000 Days in my opinion does not disappoint. Vol 3 Subliminal Verses on the other hand I can kinda understand the hate seeing how it came directly after the rage and edgy hate of Iowa. Duality is a bit overrated too. But at the same time it still has the mainstream appeal and radio success of the last two albums. As for Reroute to Remain that album just doesn't stop and goes so hard. I can't really think of any negatives it has.
Wow I love the Hunter, it’s such a great album and one of my favorites and it’s anything but forgettable. And for System of a Down, only their first album is any good.
Suggestion for part 2. Temper temper by Bullet for my valentine. Many people say that the album is terrible, but I love it. I have a soft spot for it since it's my first Bullet album and I remember my mom getting me a CD of it and that's how I discovered the band. It's a bit corny for sure, but damn is it a fun album! I don't care what everyone says, Temper temper is top 3 Bullet for my valentine album!
I've never been able to sit through Untouchables from start to finish. I do like Thoughtless and Here To Stay, but most else on it it makes me roll my eyes. "WE GOT A FUCKED UP REASON TO LIVE, WHO REALLY GIVES A FUCK? WE'RE GONNA WAKE UP HATE, WE'RE GONNA FUCK YOU UP!". Ugh, spare me please.
The Hunter is probably my favorite album here. It's not a masterpiece like CTS but I think its laid-back approach that focused more on fun and groove was needed after recording such a monumental record.
I absolutely loved Catch 33. I didn't even know it was divisive, honestly. The only big flaw I personally found is that it has its sense only if you listen to it on its entirety
The Hunter is the one I really can't understand the hate for. That album was monumental in my life. That's the album that made me love Mastodon, that made me explore every genre of metal. I don't think I was a metalhead until I heard The Hunter. I get it... Crack the Skye is one of the greatest albums ever made. I just can't understand the hate The Hunter gets haha
While The Hunter is not Mastodon's best, I'll take it over Emperor of Sand any day. There's some great songs on there, even if it's quite different. It's like when Linkin Park released Minutes to Midnight: "I can tell it's the same band, but that isn't quite the sound I like". The Sparrow is my favorite Mastodon song post-Crack the Skye!
I TOTALLY AGRE BOUT BLACK ALBUM!!! Everyone who pays the deal to Metallica it was metalheads, thanks to this album mainstream knows about Metallica as the most famous "rock" band in the world. I really glad that I watching your channel, our opinion is ssoo similar
I never understood why do many people seem to hate Mastodon’s The Hunter. I’ve always really enjoyed it! On the other hand when One More… came out i was disappointed by it a lot and stopped listening to Mastodon for a long time. When I started listening to metal again in 2019 i revisited the latter and really love it now
Tbh I just don't get the appeal of Mastodon in general. Blood and Thunder is a classic, but the rest of their music is lame. Also everyone I talked to who saw them live said they have a bad live show
@@apoplexiamusic The main complaint I heard about their shows was you could barely hear the vocalist. I've never seen them live but I talked to people who have. So far the only live band I have seen myself that disappointed was Rivers of Nihil, saw them on Chaos and Carnage this year. They were awful
Steal this Album is the best SOAD album. The jumping around with a lot of weird smaller songs anchored by the bigger tracks is a really cool experience. It has that energy of a band messing around, but being done by such solid musicians it all comes across as actually thoughtful compositions. Endorama is cool not just for being the gothic metal outlier but because a lot its stranger elements are obviously the touch of the dude from Coroner who played on the album. I like it. Classic era Kreator is untouchable in comparison, but honestly I think Endorama might be the best thing released after the god tier stuff.
You could include any Paradise Lost album between One Second and self-titled in the video and 34.788%...Complete by My Dying Bride Also Scarsick by Pain of Salvation, what a mess that album was
"Endorama" is one of two albums I enjoy from Kreator (the second is "Outcast"). It was very brave step aside their thrash direction and that songs work so well for me. "Into The Pandemonium" is good, but not perfect.
honestly would have thought korn's "take a look in the mirror" was more divisive than untouchables. untouchables is a okay album, but being honest outside "here to stay" and "thoughtless" i've never cared for the record.
I was also soured to TOOL with 10000days, yeah it had its high moments but it was the point on the path they were taking where I knew I was never going to like them again. Honestly with as good as Lateralus was, I saw that as the beginning of the end and 10000 proved me right.
Steal This Album! is in my top 10 favorite albums of all time! Vol. 3 is also pretty awesome, though I think Iowa is better. I will never listen to Results May Vary. And of course I like Metallica's Black Album!

I loved this era, but a lot of fans thought they had lost something or 'sold out' compared to the Number of the Beast and Powerslave era.
Life Is But A Dream is WAYYYYYYY more divisive than City Of Evil!
I don't think Maiden have any truly divisive album except Fear of the Dark
Crack the Skye is my favorite album of all time, so The Hunter was a HUGE disappointment. Leading up to it, the quotes from the band members made it sound like Mastodon’s version of the Black Album which it absolutely is. There are a handful of good songs, but I don’t think I’ve listened to it in full in at least 10 years.
Dude you made me crack with Limp Bizkit, behind blue eyes.......the guy gets up and throw himself by the window hahahahahaahahahhaa
Korn's Untouchables got me into the band and it's has a special place in my heart cause my brother that tragically ended his life gave it to me
Thanks for the list, was nice to remember these albums
Thank YOU!!! There’s someone out there who hates The Hunter as much as me
Opeth's Heritage. I wouldn't even call it a metal album but divisive? Fuck yeah it is. I also saw the entire thing played live with Mastodon playing The Hunter in it's entirety directly afterwards.
"Untouchables" is for me untouchable 😂
I'm not, I'm not a whore!
I see what you did there 👍
💯
Honestly one of their best.
I LOVE Born Again!
It's awesome.
Great vid as always. Some of my thoughts:
Catch Thirtythree - not terrible but a whole lotta meh coming from Nothing. Hell, the Nothing remix that came a year after this was way more interesting
Untouchables - my favorite Korn album lol. The way the first 10 tracks flow is unbelievable. I love how they maxed tf out here then crashed and burned afterwards for almost 2 decades lol. The Nothing and Requiem are great comeback albums tho
The Crusade - i didn't hate it back then but Sanctity made a much better modern thrash album the very next year. Wish they would get back together
Steal This Album - this was fun. Mr. Jack and Roulette are S-tier songs in their discog imo. Wouldn't rank any of their albums in any order as there are only 5 and every one is enjoyable
The Hunter - their worst album for sure. Half listenable and half slogfest. Haven't listened to this in over a decade and i don't plan on doing so any time soon lol
Vol 3 - me likey very much aside from the drum sound. Sounds like Joey stole Lars' St. Anger kit.
Results May Vary - Eat You Alive rules. Everything else sucks ass so bad, it's hilarious
Black Album - the most overrated album of all time imo. The God That Failed is the only track I genuinely love
Great list! Another would be fun. My suggestions:
Trivium "Silence In The Snow"
Soilwork "Figure Number Five"
Opeth "Watershed"
Iron Maiden "A Matter Of Life And Death"
Amon Amarth "Jomsviking"
Judas Priest "Turbo"
Slayer "Divine Intervention"
Gojira "Magma"
I love all of these alb7ms, but they all have a lot of detractors.
John Bush era Anthrax albums. 😎
Love that era of Anthrax
Terrible 💩
@@billymercury3897 - that's a meh era for me. I grew up with Joey Belladonna on vocals and hated the change, which was not only a change in vocals, but rather EVERYTHING. The songs/riffs just were not as good. Sound of White Noise had a couple of great songs, but then a whole lot of nothing until Joey came back.
@@Mattalica-ss9pj we've come for you all is one of the best anthrax albums ever, the fuck you mean.
Endorama is unironically my second favorite Kreator album, right after Violent Revolution.
1. Enemy of God
2. Violent Revolution
3. Hordes of Chaos
4. Endorama
99. Renewal
Definitly would love a part two for this!! Gojira Magma seems to be a divisive album my personal favorite tho
Good list! If you do a part 2, here's a few of my suggestions:
Slayer - Divine Intervention
Paradise Lost - Host
My Dying Bride - 34.788% Complete
Tool - Fear Inoculum (might be too obvious?)
Mayhem - Grand Declaration of War
Children of Bodom - Are You Dead Yet
I'm mainly basing these off what I've heard from my circle, so maybe they aren't THAT divisive, but those are some of the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
NM on the Tool pick. Didn't realize you already talked about it in that first one you did. Honestly I loved Fear Inoculum. I kinda think people hated it because it was quieter and slower, but you can't expect a band like Tool to pump out the same album every time.
Mayhem is a great shout. The remixed version really works
I was going to mention Paradise Lost and MDB as well
Grand Declaration is a LOT less so today. People were not even having it at the time.
The problem with untouchables is there was a bunch of hype that said they were going back to there more "raw" sound and thats not what happened
I personally really like swansong, specifically the songs Keep On Rotting, Black Star, and my favorite R**k The Vote with the cowbell breakdown
Keep on rotting. Keep on dreaming. One day maybe. Keep on rotting Keep on hoping yeah cause in the real world you rot
Shout out to the "Catch33 is my favourite" camp!
Cradle of filth Midian would be a good one to look at
One of the best records of all time.
It's shocking to me that fans would dislike that one.
Or Thornography
It's widely considered their best
I do have a Trivium Tier list in the meantime
I have known Trivium for a very long time. I've been listening to their singles since like In Waves, but the point when I FINALLY got into the band was when What the dead men say was released just few years ago. This album is a fucking banger! And after getting into it I started discovering their discography further and now I like every single album a lot. It's hard to rank their albums since they're all so good, but my top 3 is Silence in the snow, In the court of the dragon and What the dead men say. Yes, I love their newer stuff!
Suggestions!
Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears
Megadeth - Cryptic Writings
Edit: I originally mentioned Volume 3, then a minute later I hear you mention it lmao. I love that but yeah, music's subjective.
Do you think Megadeth' Risk was more divisive or did many fans consider it a bomb?
I personally grew to not only appreciate it but actually love it down the road.
What about you?
No More Tears is solid, I would say the Jake E Lee albums (which I love) are more contested
@@jeffreymercado2082Risk is still widely trashed, even if our friendly host here kinda likes it
@@joshthefunkdoc I do as well. I almost wished he would have continued down that path for one more album.
@@joshthefunkdoc I think Risk as reached that low state in which the band itself doesn't acknowledge its existence anymore. Like, for example, Destruction's experience with nu-metal, The Least Successful Human Cannon Ball.
Swansong wasnt bad just different. Mastodons first album, remission was their best.
I love Steal This Album, prob my favorite from them
I might be one of many few, but I love Swansong. Remove what has come before it, & it's a great album by itself. Tomorrow Belongs To Nobody, Blackstar, Room 101, Don't Believe A Word & my highlight of the album Go To Hell are brilliant. But I can understand why people might hate it.
Now we need the most divisive most divisive albums
MY personal fave of theirs.
the clipsss you put on the video were so accurate, made me dieeee😂
I actually like Born Again. Not all songs are bangers but it's still pretty heavy, catchy and enjoyable. Ian Gillan with Black Sabbath works, against all odds. Seventh Star on the other hand....
Lyrically and vocally Vol4 was a masterpiece.
I enjoy every Trivium album with Shogun being my favorite
As a massive Type O Negative fan, I've seen Bloody Kisses and October Rust on lists like these, when compared to Slow, Deep and Hard and Origin... (and to an extent, the two Carnivore albums)
big fan of all of these albums
I love THE CRUSADE of Trivium 😊
For part 2:
- Marduk - Viktoria
- Slayer - God hates us all
- Metallica - Load
- Cannibal corpse - Butchered at birth
- Immortal - Battles in the north
People don't like Battles In The North? I know Blizzard Beasts get bad rep, but wasn't aware about BitN
People didn't dig God Hates us All back in the day?
Wait... did anyone LIKE Load?!?
@@Mattalica-ss9pj i did and still do. It's not a thrash album but it's good. The four horsemen themselves like it.
Born Again is fantastic
We need part 2
That edit with behind blues eyes killed me 🤣🤣
Honestly 10,000 days is my favorite album
I really like Born Again, great album imo
The Hunter is great. Possibly my favorite Mastodon...or maybe Blood Mountain
Hot take : Load/Reload has more soul and originality than the Black Album (still love The Unforgiven tho)
Dude, I love Endorama a lot. One of my favorite albums from them. It's not bad, but this is coming from a goth😅
Man, I love most of the albums listed here. But i'm also a person who likes and actually wants to hear bands do different things. Rather than making the same album over and over again, which is sadly what most people seem to want.
The Black Album
Roots
Born Again
Endorama
The Hunter
Swansong
Into The Pandemonium
Steal This Album
All are great. The others mentioned may be as well, I'm just not a fan of those bands so I don't know the albums.
Another one I would add is
Morbid Angel - Illud Divinum Insanus.
Divisive albums by Power Metal bands I can think of:
Blind Guardian - A Twist In The Myth
HammerFall - Infected
Sabaton - Metalizer
Helloween - Chameleon
Savatage - Fight For The Rock
A Twist in the Myth seems to be one of the lowest-rated BG albums overall from what ive seen, think A Night at the Opera would be a better pick (it might actually be my fav of theirs period)
Man only album i think is perfect on here that is controversial is i love Steal this album by SOD
Yeah, I think is pretty mid. It's sort of like how I feel about Scream aim fire by Bullet. Both album are full of some of my favourite songs by hith bands, but when they're on I find myself wanting to listen to.... pretty much anything else once I pass those few good tracks
Roots is an essential metal album imo
At the time it came out here in Brazil people went wild, in both directions. I loved it, nothing sounded quite like it back then
It set the blueprint for indigenous metal -- bands like Shepherds Reign (a New Zealand band with Polynesian (I think, mostly - or all - Samoan) band members owe everything to Sepultura for showing the way.
Reroute to Remain is great. Cloud Connected is an all-timer. Metaphor is their most underrated song.
Born Again is not so bad. The muddy production suits this album. And Ian Gillan fits right in. But I respect your opinion too 🙂
I remember pre-ordering Untouchables, waiting months for the CD to release, got home put it on and then listened to it once or twice and never listened to any new Korn again, possibly the first new release disappointment I ever had.
Then I pre-ordered 10,000 days and stopped pre-ordering after that hot lump of shit 😂
People hate on the crusade man and it's sad I love it
10,000 Days, Reroute to Remain and Vol 3 I really don't get the hate for.
Baroness Yellow and Green!
Wow I love the Hunter, it’s such a great album and one of my favorites and it’s anything but forgettable.
And for System of a Down, only their first album is any good.
I would include Host by Paradise Lost on here, was a massive departure from there sound yet many either love it or have no time for it.
It is pretty great I love dry bones valley, curl of the burl, stargasm, the sparrow all classics for me
I fucking LOVE Catch Thirtythree. It's easily Meshuggah's greatest achievement imo
I absolutely loved Catch 33. I didn't even know it was divisive, honestly. The only big flaw I personally found is that it has its sense only if you listen to it on its entirety
If it wasn't for the songs from Metallica's Black Album, I would not have been eased into their 80s output.
Best track from Results May Vary is not actually on the album. It's Just Drop Dead (from the Eat You Alive single).
I love old school In Flames, but Reroute is so fucking good just very different
I MIGHT agree with that.
Imho EoS is very underrated, very even album with catchy songs.
Dry Bone Valley is a top 5 mastodon song for me
@@wadekemmsies7180 It is very good, also Thickening is a banger.

I really enjoyed ‘Into the Pandemonium’ when it first came out. It was different but definitely a weird release…
You could include any Paradise Lost album between One Second and self-titled in the video and 34.788%...Complete by My Dying Bride
Also Scarsick by Pain of Salvation, what a mess that album was
"Endorama" is one of two albums I enjoy from Kreator (the second is "Outcast"). It was very brave step aside their thrash direction and that songs work so well for me.
"Into The Pandemonium" is good, but not perfect.
Kreator’s first few albums are so good though
honestly would have thought korn's "take a look in the mirror" was more divisive than untouchables. untouchables is a okay album, but being honest outside "here to stay" and "thoughtless" i've never cared for the record.
I was also soured to TOOL with 10000days, yeah it had its high moments but it was the point on the path they were taking where I knew I was never going to like them again. Honestly with as good as Lateralus was, I saw that as the beginning of the end and 10000 proved me right.
Tool became a great jam band after Aenima.
@@postlex not to me.
