I rarely see Rafa smile after he loses. But he knows how special a player Carlos is. I also saw him smiling and applauding after some extraordinary Carlos shots (drop volley, FH winners) at Indian wells. Rare to see from Rafa during a match but honestly he had the best possible view as a spectator 😁😉
Rafa didn't smile, or at least it wasn't the type of heart-warming smile you seem to imply. Maybe that's the way it looked to some, but that's not the way it looked to me. Yes, he is happy for Alcaraz, but Nadal is a champion, and he plays to win. I could see the sadness in his eyes more clearly than any congratulatory smile he may have had.
The sudden emergence of this boy is the most exciting thing to happen to men’s tennis for years. He has an exceptional combination of power and touch and his determination is fierce. He looks like a future multi-grand slam winner right now.

I know Nadal was coming in a little rusty, but this kid is the real deal… A genuine threat to anyone in Clay, and dare I say it, a future multiple grand slam champion...If him, Nadal, and Djokovic end up on the same Half of the draw at the French Open, it would be the greatest crime in tennis history!
Alcaraz is certainly not a clay court specialist. In fact, I find him to be a better hard court player and would certainly bet on him to win all slams.
@@jholomorphic Do you think he’s significantly better than the other young guns or do you think there will be a new “Big 4” after the original Big 3 retire?
@@michaeljoseph796 that's a good question. Right now, I feel that Alcaraz is in a different league altogether. Among the young guys, Medvedev is the only guy who could challenge him on low bouncing hard courts.
@@jholomorphic The one thing that’s missing from his game is a big first serve … so he won’t be getting too many free points. But then again, neither does Nadal and he’s a had pretty decent tennis career.
@@michaeljoseph796 agreed. I see that he is consistently hitting 130 mph first serves but most of them are wide rather than hitting the T. He seems to be looking to open the court with the serve instead of going for aces. And in general, the accuracy is lacking a bit. But, the pace at which he is improving, I wouldn’t be surprised if he corrects this before Wimbledon.
was a good comeback, he will still be the favourite in paris. Before a match its ok to polarilize ( with a wink smile) like 2 boxers but after a match everybody SHOULD show give a fair handshake and respect and should gratulate like a adult the opponent
It's not hard to understand your comment in disguise as a Djokovic fan, you clearly hate Nadal knowing he is the favourite in RG but you put Alcaraz instead and pointing out about congratulating at net something your idol always does and that Nadal doesn't because in your head he is a sore loser. small plays phenomenally good tennis. You need to get Rafa, and then Novak with a hard game in 3 half breaks 7.6 7.5 7.6. He beat two of the best tennis players in history
