Scenes like this I love. Gon is a good guy, but he’s in a dark place. He wants nothing more than revenge, but he also knows the girl Pitou is saving is innocent. Also Pitou is a bad guy, but she’s doing something that can be seen as good. This anime shows the white, the black, and all shades of grey and I love it.
When you think about it if Gon hadn't listen to Killua and killed Pitou then and there then Gon wouldn't have to do what he did when fought Pitou and put himself in that predicament granted Komugi would've died and if in this scenario had Meruem still had lived due to Youpi and Pouf then he probably would've had a different reaction/conclusion......although he would've still died to the poison.
To be fair, there was a non-zero chance that Kite could actually be saved. And Gon would never forgive himself if he hadn't atleast confirmed that it was impossible.

This is why I like HxH the fights are so good that they don't even fight.
