Thank you for the kind words. I was the lead/principal 3D environment artist on the game, I'm incredibly proud of all the art we created. While it's heartbreaking that players won't be able to fully experience it, it's heartwarming to see that the art that we were allowed to share has resonated with people online in a very positive way. There's even more art incoming in the following weeks! One thing I want to mention is that all the voxels in the video were intended to be beveled, giving them a very nice rounded look. We had the technology for this, but it was turned off to simplify the math for engineers to test new shapes. Made the game look a lot better and the voxels more nextgen. Unfortunately, this means the videos don't showcase this feature.
Congrats on your work! Even thought it didn't came out as an actual finished product it'll serve as a very good portfolio. Hope you work on something amazing next!! Hugs from Brazil.
You and your team did an amazing job. I would have clocked so many hours in this game. The art is lovely, the mechanics seem interesting and it combines a lot of thing I love about other games into one amazing package. Its such a shame you didn’t get to see it released and see the joy it would have no doubt brought into people’s lives. Hope everyone on your team is doing ok after what the company did to you all. ❤
I doubt it, but if a part of the team could manage to acquire it from the company, I bet most of us would like to participate in a crowdfunding campaign. That being said, a part where I'm skeptical it would work(apart from the premise of acquiring the work), is that someone said the team was 90 people and I don't expect the crowdfunding to be good enough to support as much people(or even a fraction)
This video is so heartwarming to see... I was an audio programmer on the team for the past two years, and even though nobody has really been yet able to hear the amazing audio experiences we made, it's giving me such a warm and fuzzy feeling that players connect with our game as a whole. It was truly something special. We all said it for years, even before it was canceled. We knew we had a gem on our hands - for years. We had never worked on something like this before, where everything and everyone just clicked, it was like magic... we were all very proud of the game and the team culture that made it. So glad the public is responding well to the little part of our hard work they can see today :') Means a ton
This comment brought tears to my eyes. As a player I'm absolutely moved by how much work and heart your entire team poured into this game, it's absolutely clear. I'm utterly gutted that your game was never released, because it seems genuinely unique for it's genre, and something me and hundreds of players would've loved dearly. You guys truly did make something special. It warms my heart that even after all your work was shut down, the community can carry some of your pain of losing this game with you, and that our love for your game brings you some joy. Thank you SO MUCH for working so hard on this game, putting your all into it. And thank you for working to share this beautiful thing you've all created. I'm glad I got to see parts of your game at least. Also, as a lover of video game music, I'm totally heartbroken to never hear some of the stuff you worked on! I hope one day we all can enjoy your work the way it was intended. Thank you so much again!!
It boggles my mind that there are still companies out there that are all in on NFTs and the blockchain despite how much of an utter failure both those ventures have been.
aughhh, what a loss. the gaming industry has suffered the loss of so many good people these past years due to greed. Everhaven looked like it had a lot of heart put into it, it's a shame the devs weren't able to share their efforts with us. We'll see what happens, but being acquired by NFT bozos doesn't give me hope :(
It drives me crazy how entire companies with projects this far in development can get bought by new people people who just decide "Nah" I had to do a double-take on this video's date too when crypto got brought up; the fact that they're still pushing for it in games in 2024 is ridiculous and the fact that they're hiding behind terms like "live service" makes me think they know it on some level too.
So tragic. As a lover of Fae Farm and Minecraft/ Valheim type games, I would have played the hell out of this. It looks gorgeous and so unique for a survival crafter. I’m so disappointed.
This is so sad, I would definitely play this game. I hope there is someone out there who will give the artists and developers a chance to finish the game ❤
I was thinking it's already an saturated market for these games and then I saw the building. That's looks crazy snappy and good. What a shame if this never launches.
Never have I thought I would see NFT companies making a comeback in an age where NFTs are pretty much dead, but here we are. It's a shame that this project got canceled, it had so much potential, and things may not look good for Fae Farm and Dauntless with the mention of live service (especially Fae Farm since it's definitely isn't live service, meaning it could potentially be live service down the road). Just like what another commenter said this Wave company seems to be worse than their last one, so interpret that information however you'd like. I hope the developers will be able to go back and make this game real, I really do, it has the potential to be an amazing cozy game. But for now all we can do is sign the petition and hope the developers see it and go back to working on it.
I wonder if it's even legal to turn a regular game, people already bought, into live service after the fact? It's probably never been tested in court. It seems like there may be a case though, if this goes through. People didn't spend their money on a live service game. Like if I buy hot dog buns the store can't take them from my bag after I've paid and give me a loaf of rye bread instead. Sure they are both a bread product bit it's not what I bought.
Believe it or not, some people/companies were skeptical about blockchain and nfts (rightly so) ate their peak popularity and had plans already made for some years in advance. Now those planned years are fading and they're finally checking and investing in these technologies... It's such a bizarre and dumb choice imo.
Hi Josh, thank you for making this video. I signed the petition and hope this game is brought back, along with the jobs lost. I do hope you'll spread this information around to other cozy gamers; both the petition and the fact that Phoenix Labs is owned by an NFT company. Is very suspicious that they never disclosed this, fire a lot of people along with canceling a project, and then called Fae Farm a live service game. I really hope you'll pass this info to other cozy gamers, because this situation needs to be known about. Payton'sCorner and Eeowna might be a good place to start. Anyway, I likely won't be playing Fae Farm now given that it may become a live service game. I really hope Project Dragon will come back under a new company. This is very depressing news.
>Life Service Games >Blockchain >NFTs Yeah, I was sceptical about Fae Farm when Phoenix Labs wanted to charge AAA price for it but those are now enough red flags that I'll never look at it again. It looks like they threw away their staff that were working hard on Everhaven just because the game might not yield maximum profit and instead followed the promises of crypto bros. That's so depressing...
That price is why I don't have Fae Farm yet, even after very much enjoying the beta. Plus now the new additional packs to the game. It's not in my budget for now.
The artists really ate with this. It's so unique and beautiful. Hope they find a better company to work for. NF*s are the scourge of the gaming world. I thought we were past this sh*t, why are they still going around purchasing companies. I'm going to be nasty and say I hope they don't bring it back. #1 The actual artists are all fired. They're clearly not going to hire new ones so it'll end up being AI #2 They're going to implement blockcha*n within the game somehow; mark my words. Seriously I do not want to see this labour of love turned into another AI NF* crap.
Wow this is honestly really sad, the artwork and early builds of the game itself look absolutely beautiful. I know their previous parent company wasn’t great but I’m not sure if the new parent company is any better, if not worse 😓
Thankyou for covering this project/game josh as well as the petition! Everything about it looks like my absolute dream game and im so very heartbroken about losing it :( , I really hope it makes a Comeback through the hype its been rasing online somehow and the Studio sees that they made a huge mistake in cancelling this. Even if it doesn't im thankful to see more about this world and all its gorgeous art. This World felt so full of love and so well thought out and interesting. This was such an amazing and well thought out and well done Video!!!
I can't imagine spending four years of your life working on a big project like this only to have it canceled 💔 It sounds like it would have been fun. I'm in love with the concept art.
They were so far into development and it seems a TON of work and love was put into this game. This is absolutely devastating 😞 I really feel for the entire team
Wow I never heard of this game. How sad that it died because it looks like something right up my alley. So disappointing to hear it died. I hope someone can buy the game and finish it at the very least 😭
This is a such a wonderful overview, it looks like such a fantastic game. The more I see the more I love it. Signed the petition too, we need more games like this that have so much love behind it .
It's a huge shame that this was cancelled so close to the finish line, it's beautiful and the kind of game I could easily see myself and my best friend getting lost in for hours. The fantasy elements are so well done, it looks cozy and high quality. But thank you as well for letting us know that Phoenix Labs is owned by an NFT company. Similar to games that use AI art, customers have a right (imo) to know information like that, it's very much a dealbreaker for me and I would hate to unknowingly support either. Crypto and games have tried to be smushed together for years now, and it's just never worked out. It will never be welcomed in the gaming space, and I hope others will also continue to reject the idea.
This is so heartbreaking! This game looks like everything I have been wanting to play for the last few years and to hear it'll never see the light of day makes me want to cry... I hope that the developer's are able to find work soon or come together and maybe bring this to life... They should start their own studio and launch a kickstarter. In a perfect world the assets would be released back to the developers so they could finish their baby, but I doubt any company would do that. Maybe the fact that we can see this at all means they have, though. I would love that for this team.
Cancelling projects like this one in order for the team to focus on live service games is heartbreaking. We rarely see games with such charm nowadays and I feel like this is a huge missed opportunity. Hopefully the petition helps the studio realizing their mistake.
This is incredibly sad to think of what could have been. I absolutely adore the art style. One small solace is that some of the team's work got to be seen by others. Not only do bystanders get to appreciate the work, but hopefully it'd be something that could be shown on a resume/portfolio.
As an artist myself, this is so heartbreaking! I feel so sad for the wasted effort and potential! I could only hope that this game will see the light of day again. Thanks for the deep dive and research! Amazing video, thanks for shedding light to this masterpiece!
I'll gladly sign the petition. Such a shame as this project looks superb. Can't help feeling that the way things are going in the industry these days the suits will have crushed any chance of creativity
Saw one of the artists posting about it on Instagram and it was so heartbreaking, this game looks incredible I also hope something can still come out of it. At least the developers/artists and everyone got out of that company to be honest , thanks for all your research I hadn't seen most of this! Beautiful work :(
This video was definitely worth the watch and I previously saw the artwork on Twitter. It's such a shame a game that had the potential to be something brilliant got cancelled because I definitely would have tried this one.
@@dunes8817 Hopefully, but if they become convinced it would be a success because of interest they might want to keep it and change it to suit them. As it stands it probably makes them more in tax write offs if they don't sell it to another studio. Like how movie studios make big expensive movies then never release them so they can write it off for tax credit.
This looks sooo great! As I love Valheim-type games but always been looking for a farming-type / cozy version of it, I guess this could have been my dream game. So sad they cancelled it and without a convincing reason as well. Heartbreaking for the developers, but also a great loss for us players.
Dang......that is such a stylish game. Its designs stand out so much from the usual cookie cutter games we see nowadays. I would have loved to explore that world!
This is why I’m into indie titles these larger companies cancel games at the drop of a hat and it’s not worth getting excited for these games till they actually release
This game looks like it was so far in development that it's crazy to me that they would drop it! Imagine how much money they just wasted by cancelling it so late in the game! All of the money they put into developing this game is just gone now because they aren't going to earn any of it back through sales. Insane. It makes no sense.
The message from Phoenix Labs said cancelling was the last resort. It seems like it was the parent company driving decisions though. Did they try kickstarter? It's shame for sure. Gaming is a business sure but like a lot of people mentioned, these are real talented people who were left high and dry by what seems to be scummy business practices or decisions in the least. Just sell the damn IP if you ain't gunna use it.
Such a shame that another promising game is lost. I wonder if it would be possible for a crowdfunding campaign to buy off the license for Everhaven and let the devs release it under a new studio. Studios really shouldn’t be able to hold game ideas hostage like Microsoft did with Scalebound.
Here another example of me being the last person to get the memo, I didn't knew this was about to happen. Now I knew of it's almost existence I miss it dearly - It just sounds like it was tailored for me - and players like me. I'm just sad. We missed encountering a sweet B-max terracotta sidekick by this much & dragon pets.
I'm also confused about the fae farm portion. I thought I heard they let go of everyone who worked on fae farm which is unfortunate because the last big fix update has made it unplayable on switch due to frame rate being so bad.
Never signed a petition so fast in my life. This game looked gorgeous in every category, and I’m so sorry for all the people who poured their hearts and souls into making this beautiful game. All that hard work, for nothing, because of corporate BS. It’s so disappointing. To anyone who worked on this game, if you’re reading, I would have played the hell out of this game! You deserve better.
It's official, I'm deleting Dauntless from my Switch and never touching Fae Farm. I refuse to show support for companies that would do that to their employees and projects that people that it is likely people were already excited for. If only all of the teams for the canceled projects could find a way to still reach the final development stages and release their games anyway. Hopefully there ends up being some way for Everhaven to come out at some point. It looks and sounds like it would be a lot of fun
How dare you show an amazing looking game we will probably never be able to play 😭 great gaming journalism!! A true shame they all got let go. This looks like it would have been a breath of fresh air!
The game looked so good! I’m sad it won’t be released. If I worked on it I would be so frustrated. They did a great job, I hope somehow we still get to see it.
I'm absolutely gutted. Like 5 minutes in I was just shaking my head the rest of the video thinking what an incredible loss to gaming I was witnessing. It kills me to see games with REAL HEART and devs who care being cancelled while the gaming market becomes so stale and repetitive because nobody wants to stretch out a limb and try something new and innovative when the current boring tropes sell. This is so heartbreaking. I gained a bit of a sad smile however upon hearing of the petition. Time will tell if it will do any good though, judging by the parent company's nft crap. A disservice was done to gaming community this time. A complete loss to all involved. What an absolute shame. I haven't even played this game, but I feel connected to it, and it's DEVELOPERS! Which is a connection I have not felt in YEARS! I love this game already, and even if it's never released as intended, I will hold a piece of it in my heart. I'm truly moved. I signed the petition and paid to advertise it. I wish I could put money to protect it from NFT's but this seems to be the most I can do. I hope for this game's time in the sunlight ❤️
What a shame. This game could have been so much more for players. At the same time, cozy games are a dime a dozen, maybe someone will pick this up and give it the chance it deserved, or create one similar.
This game looked promising but ugh. After I realized Dauntless was from the same studio I thought wtf, in regards to the bare bones of Fae Farm and then saying Fae Farm would be a focus gave me hope they'd add more to the game like better conversations, furniture, character creation, etc outside of the dlcs. The skeleton to a good game is there, and while I do like it as it is, it could've been so much more with a few more additions and tweaks. I still wish they'd do frequent free updates and more dlcs, for a reasonable price, they'd improve their image, image of the game, more people would buy, then in turn more money. Idk. I wanted so much with Fae Farm and we got about 50%. I hope the team can find work and continue doing what they love, and maybe one day we'll get a spiritual successor of this game, and FF.
As much as I'd love to see this game come to light. I am also glad they didn't let some blockhain NFT bs ruin their vision, because no one wants that (if that's the reason it got cancelled that is)
Oh my god….. even i know this was a massive mistake cancelling everhaven. Even as a marketing and business standpoint. It would of been their first large scale game. This is especially upsetting because it would of potentially targeted those not just into minecraft, but dragon quest builders, palia and potentially ECO. Forte sounds more like a parasite than a game and tech company. Disgusting. My hunch is, they are going to make faefarm free eventually and turn it into a mix of NFTs and micro transactions. I’m glad i never bought the game. I’m never going to support this company now.
With what’s happening now I definitely won’t be buying any cozy games from AAA or mainstream companies anymore especially if they’re going to start adding blockchain crap to their games.
I never heard of this game before but I think it's sad it had so much work on it and they just threw it out. It seemed pretty polished to me and it should've been released.
Hey Josh, dunno if you're aware of "Thin Matrix" on RUclips? He posts dev vlogs. He released his first game, Equinox, a few years back and he's now working on a farming sim.
NFTs were a joke from inception. There's no way a corporation is still trying to scoop up scraps of that stupid mess THREE YEARS after everyone's done laughing at it?! There was no point in cancelling this!
I was wondering why Phoenix Labs sounded familiar. They made Dauntless and Fae Farm...honestly I didn't even try Fae Farm, the more info I saw on it, the less impressed I became. I should play more Dauntless though, it's pretty fun.

Thanks for the exact number! I'm sorry we'll never get to enjoy your work fully. 😭
the fact that such a promising and fun-looking game became a victim of NFT's is a straight up crime.

I can’t believe this was canceled, it looked AMAZING and like it would have been a definite hit.
Nice detective work, Josh!
That's so unfortunate that we'll never get this game. It looks so good...
As an artist myself, this is so heartbreaking! I feel so sad for the wasted effort and potential! I could only hope that this game will see the light of day again. Thanks for the deep dive and research! Amazing video, thanks for shedding light to this masterpiece!
This game looks fantastic! The art is stunning! If the devs sold an art book, I would buy in a heartbeat
Man the designs are so goddamn cute and awesome. So sad the direction the industry took in the past couple years took a toll on projects like these :(
Never heard of this game before. But if it was not canceled, I would absolutely play it.
Me Omw to the studio to start a heist to seize the flash drive containing the game
The only problem is, if they do bring it back, it seems like it would be turned into live service with NFTs since that's the companies focus now.
I think the idea is that the project is picked up by another company that lets the team do their thing and finish the project.
This game had EVERYTHING!
It's such a shame to see such a promising project cancelled.. just a sad situation all around. :( I feel for the people who worked on the project.
Sad. This game looked pretty fun and beautiful. I signed the petition.
Such a shame that another promising game is lost. I wonder if it would be possible for a crowdfunding campaign to buy off the license for Everhaven and let the devs release it under a new studio. Studios really shouldn’t be able to hold game ideas hostage like Microsoft did with Scalebound.
A cozy game with nft is not cozy in my book. Fuck nft and all that trash
You should still sign the petition though, everhaven would be a cool game to have and its almost close to being released.
@@evelynn1173 Agreed, and the devs need their hard work not to be wasted and thrown in the trash.
Here another example of me being the last person to get the memo, I didn't knew this was about to happen. Now I knew of it's almost existence I miss it dearly - It just sounds like it was tailored for me - and players like me. I'm just sad. We missed encountering a sweet B-max terracotta sidekick by this much & dragon pets.
this pisses me off so fucking much! holy shit this game looks absolutely amazing and now we'll never get to play it
It's really a bummer it was cancelled. It looked great.
It looks and sounds like it would be a lot of fun
fae farm was pretty garbage anyway
Awww, this art and the animals are soo cute. :( I would have so played this game.
man, it looks so cute. I would totally buy it if it would get released!
This game looks special! They should finish it!
I am actually so mad right, why the heck did they cancel it? Argh
I want them to start a kickstarter
Seriously sign the petition people!
Great journalistic work Josh, I really hope this helps to maybe bring back this game. Subbed 👍
I hope the team can find work and continue doing what they love, and maybe one day we'll get a spiritual successor of this game, and FF.
this makes me so sad, I would have absolutely loved a game like this. 😭
the fantasy of it all, ugh, wrenches my heart
That's so sad. I want to be a owlperson!!! I'm heartbroken for the people who worked hard on it!!!
Of course its the nft company that ruins everything! Ugh I hate this.
we should just stop buying games made by public traded companys ...
With what’s happening now I definitely won’t be buying any cozy games from AAA or mainstream companies anymore especially if they’re going to start adding blockchain crap to their games.
I could have had dragons in a cozy survival game! Nuuu we are missing out of cozy dragons!
I can’t accept that this got scrapped, this game need to be saved
What amazing designs, a modern tragedy fr
Finnaly a good looking and fun game geting made ...then the suits came a messed up the gaming indistry -_- this is why we cant have anything nice
I never heard of this game before but I think it's sad it had so much work on it and they just threw it out. It seemed pretty polished to me and it should've been released.
Hi do you think they would let me use the character customizer for the faun character ?
Damn the game looks good
I’m sad now. Looks so good
Hey Josh, dunno if you're aware of "Thin Matrix" on RUclips? He posts dev vlogs. He released his first game, Equinox, a few years back and he's now working on a farming sim.
NFTs were a joke from inception. There's no way a corporation is still trying to scoop up scraps of that stupid mess THREE YEARS after everyone's done laughing at it?! There was no point in cancelling this!
It wouldn't have been too expensive to push this to release - cancelling it just doesn't make sense
Is it possible for the game to come out on Mobile?
man this is just depressing. this game looked wonderful
Needs more mountains
this game looks so cool😢
This game looked so cool :(
petition signed !
I was wondering why Phoenix Labs sounded familiar. They made Dauntless and Fae Farm...honestly I didn't even try Fae Farm, the more info I saw on it, the less impressed I became. I should play more Dauntless though, it's pretty fun.
