I know a lot of people claim large cities, but don't live directly in the city. I don't blame Iman, especially when he was a young kid, that's all he knew was representing Chicago. I also like how he didn't hyped the bad parts of Chicago like it is some zoo where you can go checkout the animals, and then leave. He not lying. Oak Park borders the Austin neighborhood in Chicago & Austin is literally one of the most violent neighborhoods in Chicago. As you move further west it starts to calm down & get more suburban but you real life can’t tell the difference between Chicago & Oak Park in those first few blocks into Oak Park.
I'm from Chicago, but I loved going to Oak Park, going to the Afrocentric store down from the library. All of the stores with the bread samples. And it was quiet over there, I loved it over there. Of course, Chicago has gems to check out, the food, the entertainment, and all of the wonderful things, and he's right, why go where the smoke's at, when you can enjoy all of the good things about Chicago?
As a native Oak Parker, it's amazing to see Iman proudly represent for us and everyone who hailed from the village. It's the first suburb west of Chicago off the 290, but the difference between the municipalities is night and day, even by the street lights. Even as close as it is, I can never claim Chicago even though I studied there, work there, and spend most of my time there, just based on facts. The good thing about claiming where you came from is that Iman can say he's the GOAT basketball player that played at OPRF and originated from Oak Park. 👊🏿

9:19 Chicago has had a lot of artists but nobody has really put on for the city in a real way in terms of sounds and visuals. Like despite herbo, common, chance, keef , etc. What is the song/video that’s a real anthem that shows more of the city than the hood. Like you said Michigan Ave., water tower place, sears tower, the museums, navy pier, etc.
