    Why is there so few videos on recording accustic drums? I'd like to make some drum covers using S1 Pro 6, however I can't find a single video on how to go about this. Is Studio One not often used for recording accustic drums? Y'all are super knowledgeable, however much of it is over my head. Thank you

    I haven’t been able to successfully make this way work without noticeable flamming. The only way I’ve been able to convert drums to MIDI with studio one is with Slate Trigger. The transient markers are always too far into the waveform, when I tab to transient it goes to the front of the waveform but then I don’t get to use any of the functionality of bend markers.

    • @mitcheltheelenmusic8858

    It would be great if you could add some tips for getting your kick and snare tracks to only trigger for the kick and snare. The problem I've had when trying to do this is bleed from the other pieces of the kit causing false triggers.

    • @ehav
      @ehav 4 года назад +1

      They just showed you how to in the video. Adjust till the bend markers are only on the kick or snare. Any extra bleed you cant get ride of you can just delete in one second.

    • @trickfall8752
      @trickfall8752 4 года назад +1

      @@ehav maybe I just have way more bleed in my track, but I was having a difficult time. I'd either get a lot of false hits to the point that it would be super tedious to remove, or I'd lose the kick. I wasn't sure if there was something else I was missing.

    • @ehav
      @ehav 4 года назад +1

      @@trickfall8752 Hmm, there are two settings for bend markers. Normal and sensitive. Did you try both? That is serious bleed

    • @presonus
      @presonus  4 года назад +3

      @@trickfall8752 Vahe is correct. If the sensitive setting isn't working for your Kick & Snare tracks either, we're talking serious bleed. One thing you could try to do is open up the "Strip Silence" menu (located right next to the "Audio Bend" menu) and kill some of the bleed that way. You could also apply a gate on an insert, of course. Then, select all remaining events on the track, right click and choose "Event" -> "Mixdown Selection". Then try again. -GBY

    please, if you are somehow connected to the developers' team, I'm begging!!! I can't work in studio one 4 because of the interface. I don't know how everybody else seems not to have any problems with it but after 2.65 version I can't adapt. the fonts are killing me, the lines the frames are poorly discernible it just paralyzes me and stops dead in my workflow. is there any chance to do some sort of skin and bring back 2.65 look. as an option. I don't see much complaining on the topic so I feel like I'm the only one. but if there are guys and girls like me, let's plead together! cuz the functions are awesome but the look...

    • @presonus
      @presonus  4 года назад

      Hi almur, sorry to hear that you're struggling - Can you perhaps provide a screenshot of your Studio One screen so I can better understand what you might be struggling with?
      To me it almost sounds like you're running Studio One 4 in low resolution mode. Have you double checked that this isn't the case? Also, you can adjust Studio One 4's look completely to your liking in the "Appearance" settings. You can even set the contrast for the grid and everything else independently. -GBY

    • @almur88
      @almur88 4 года назад

      @@presonus thanks for reply. no, it's definitely not the resolution, I'm a reasonably advanced pc user, moreover I've tried all posibilities of contrast and even tried to make a white theme, close to 2.65 colors. it's not the same. it's hard to explain what I'm struggling with, it's just the old version has some kind of clarity and solidity of track borders, it's not as thin lined, transparent, translucid etc. everything is clearly defined and outlined, more like a thing of real world rather than some fancy futuristic glass- thin air style. the only thing I beg of you is to consider embracing this concept of customisable skins, like Reaper does. I am trapped and stuck with Presonus precisely cuz you're the best and the most intuitive DAW out there, so no chance for me to shift to another and start learning it from scratch (apart from cubase which I used 10-15 years ago, but that would be my last resort). Is it hard to revive and bring back 2.65 look as an option? dunno cuz I'm no IT specialist.

    • @Joeman7890
      @Joeman7890 4 года назад

      Use a different theme in the appearance preference. I find that the lighter arrangement background helps me separate the whole program better.

    • @lowpie1
      @lowpie1 4 года назад +1

      @@presonus I have to agree with almur on this. Version 2.65 was much more easier on eyes and had better separation of elements in S1 (similar to Logic 9).
      Since V3, all elements of the software (like arrangement, tracks, info panel, browser) looks too flat and similar, without clear distinction, which is not natural for human eye, so we make more time looking for feature subconsciously. Imaging having a car dashboard with all flat elements without clear distinction of it's parts, only with flat lines. It would be harder to reach the elements to control it, right.
      Even after tweaking all available options to look similar to V2 (like dark arrangement with lighter outer elements) lack of shading between different parts of elements make it less easy on eyes and less readable than V2.
      Also, part of the problem are very thin and unusual fonts which are more adequate for some article pages on web, than on software with many "hands-on" elements.
      I am not sure why everybody is copying Ableton's flat and minimalist style of interface, because it doesn't always work. Ableton was designed from ground up with this style in mind having much less text and visual clutter on it's main page so it's not so distracting and works well, but not for S1 IMHO.
      Good middleground is using both "flat" elements combined with some "natural" separation (like shadows, emboss etc) which Apple did with Logic Pro X, Bitwig with their design, and also Steinberg Cubase with newer versions.
      Presonus, please improve S1's UI with less clutter, as workflow is already almost perfect, but unfortunately UI is dull, flat and uninspiring.
      Thanks.

    not suitable for live drums. Video is not about anything. Let's better think about new triggering algorithms using artificial intelligence such as (oxford drum gate) - there really is cool functionality for working with drums.

      @@presonus Ive had a lot of trouble using it with live drums. How do you set it so that your bend markers start at the beginnings of the transients, so that your transients can actually line up and avoid smearing?

    • @snovskcool
      @snovskcool 4 года назад

      @@presonus Yes, you can have a live recording of drums, (IT'S EXPRESSLY PREPARED FOR DEMOING THIS TRICK), but this technique in most cases works poorly and requires a lot of editing time. There are more advanced algorithms - the result of which will be better and faster.

  • @Lucidaydreamer

    DO NOT LAYER SAMPLES ON YOUR DRUMS THIS WAY. The bend markers appear behind the transients, meaning that it would be impossible line up all of the samples transients with those of the live drums. You will get random smearing and flamming. Zoom in and check it out!
    This is the only weakness of Studio One, imo.
    It seems dishonest, and in poor taste to make a video like this where you pretend its not an issue and avoid playing the final product for your viewers.

    • @presonus
      @presonus  4 года назад +2

      Hi Voice, sorry you feel that way. I did play the final result at the end of the video - I certainly can't hear any smearing and flamming. -GBY

      @@presonus I appreciate the response, and tbh, apologize for the tone of my first post, although this problem has cause me untold misery.
      Now, being real about it, if the transients are not lined up, it is smearing your track even if its too subtle to be obvious. So can you please explain to me how to get the bend markers to line up with the beginnings of transients on the live drums, so that samples dont have random delay from the source tracks?
      This is the only issue ive ever run into in S1. other than that, I am a fanboy! its a pretty huge issue tho, and if you help me overcome it, I will sing your praises from the highest, most resonant mountaintops!.
