I also appreciate seeing you not using j channel. Picked up an old house on the cheap, but I've got to redo everything on and in the place. First time owner. My siding is fine. But the fascia had rotted and was sagging off the house. I figure it'll be fine, so long as I snug the soffit in close to the siding, and run some fascia around the outer lip. You've got a good cut to your videos. Obviously experienced. Thanks for posting.

Very interesting! I am building a very large workshop this summer ... roof perimeter is about 250 ft. I have watched a dozen videos on every step of construction. I built a house a few years back but subbed out most of the work. I watched and had a lot of "why do it that way" questions. When it comes to soffit, I could not figure out why I would put up a J (or F) channel only to cover it with the wall siding. I see you didn't ! First person to do it this way. I assume if you are going to use vinyl siding (I am) then I would just bring the top wall J to the bottom of the soffit? Thanks so much ! Mike

Yes, you are correct. Bring the J channel up to the soffit. This is how I was taught to do it years ago. Hope this helped.

Also, if you have room when you put your siding up. The last piece will most likely have the nailing flange cut off. You put undersill inside your j channel. Your siding will slide up into it. You will need to buy a tool that makes a little snap onto the siding that will snap into the undersill.

@@doityourselfdenniscom Awesome! It does help. Saves buying 250 ft of J. In the color I picked (black), they don't make F so I would need to block to hold the J anyway. Thanks for the tip on the undersill! I have the tool (had to make some repairs on my place ... siding fell out under two windows. I bet they did not put undesill in the J and that is why it fell out! I have 3500 sq ft of concrete poured ... this should be a fun challenge I am a machinist and work out of the house. I built the house on a very tight budget. This meant I got a lot of questionable sub's in. Got it done but learn a lot of how not to do things along we way ... I found 14 leaks in my natural gas piping ... I had to double up the floor joists in two places because the floor felt like a trampoline ... then replaced two 12" LVL's with three 16" LVL's. Saved money but took me 7 years to "almost" finish an accessible house (my wife was paralyzed from the shoulders down in a diving accident when she was 12). I even built an elevator out of the mast of a forklift ... $40K to buy ... $2K to build. Thanks so much again !!!!!!

Read you comment. I hope you and your wife are well, and your house and shop are done, or at least livable.
