We are a very integrated and mixed country, we cuss and quarrel and trace and make -up!!!All Jamaicans are the same whether white, Chinese, Black,Indian and we have them in our government and parliament representing us !!! It's not like in America and Europe, in Jamaica we do not have people of different races suing each other because of racism !!! All Jamaicans are recognised for their unique talents, we hailed Gordon Butch Stewart as a white Jamaican for his contribution to economic growth and development, we hail Bob Marley who is mixed race for his contributions to music and we hail our black leaders in politics and business and which every colour they are is quite irrelevant to the problems we are facing on the Island !!!

I too have beautiful memories of schooling in Jamai ca. First at Infant School then St. George's Girls School and Kingston Technical. Then on to Exed before migrating. I still remember passages of scripture which we were taught. A different passage every week and you had to repeat it at morning worship. Your uniform blouses were so white and every pleat on your skirt was in place. Of course if you misbehaved, you'd go to the Headmistress' office for punishment. Those teachers will always be remembered fondly.

I started schooling in Jamaica and finished last years inc college and university in U.K. Education in Jamaica is far superior to education in U.K. For instance surprisingly English Language by the time I got to U.K. I was by far advanced to the kids in U.K. I went to Grammer School in U.K. based on 11+ exams the level of which I had already sat aged 8 and 9 in Jamaica . As a poor child in Jamaica we used to sit and watch the wealthy kids traipsing in and out of Monroe College nearby and long and yearn for the privilege , so we grab it when it comes .

This is my first time seeing your videos and I had to subscribe after watching. School in Jamaica is gruelling, but the quality of education you get ensures you excel wherever you go in the world. One think I can truly say, when your teacher is hard on you, and you think it's because they dont like you - it's not. They tend to see your potential and want only the best for you. You won't realize this when you're a child. But once you get older, the reality hits, and then you are appreciative.

My, older she passed her common entrance for Holly Childhood.

As Servite girls my sister and I had a similar experience to Mel. Nurse Garvey and her gold bangles, Matron in charge of Senario house . Mother Amadeus and Sister Christine. They taught us socisl awareness and emphasized good behavior. It was a great educational foundation for us . Thanks Mel for the memories!

@@CountryWhiteJamaican I can relate to this story in every way !!! Like the Common Entrance Exam, I never knew I would pass because it was so hard and I was only 10 years old, took it and passed at the first chance !!! Then I attended St Catherine High School founded by some Roman Catholic Nuns like Sister Mary Pascal and Sister Mercedes !!! At St Catherine High it was fun and some of my contemporaries were Andrew Holness and Juliet Holness, as a first form student throughout this time, I could have predicted that Holness would have become Prime Minister, he had such a personality and posture and leadership as the Head boy that I very much admired and looked up to him for. Same as with your experience there have been lifelong friendships which I developed from my Jamaican High School days just as you described when you attended Immaculate Conception High school!!!! Like many Jamaicans we think of Immaculate Conception High School as one of the best and I just used to love seeing the different young ladies some of them white, black, Indian, Chinese that shows the diversity and multicultural Jamaica dressed in that white making them looked just so Immaculate. Yes, 🤩🤩 I too remembered getting into the little trouble at times I was known for being infamous when it comes on to speaking out with the Teachers and was on a number of occasions sent straight down to the Mrs Green's Office, who she was the Dean of discipline and what used to get me out of it was that Mrs Greene was taking Religious Education with my class and she could always count on me for getting the highest marks in all her tests !!!

Cindy Breakespeare said that all the discipline she has in her life came from her time at ICHS. I look back on those days with fondness and gratitude for all I learned there - respect for your elders, good manners, strong morals, etc. Many of the day students never knew that there were nuns who left early every morning to run the "creches" for the less fortunate children of the area.

The prep school continued as a day school. It was just the convent itself that closed down. And yes, The Brown's Town Community College was launched in the convent buildings. But I suppose because you were a boarder that wouldn't have worked for you. Do you remember that fabulous big hall / gymnasium w- that very proper theater stage?
Was Sister Bonaventure or Sister Casamayor there when you went?
Chuckles at the idea of a feisty young boarder at immaculate, ... with no means of escape I might add.
I have a girl cousin that went to immaculate back in the day - D. Cardoza.
