By the way, I’m also glad you guys dig the musical score. I speak for everyone here when I say that composer Naoki Sato did an amazing job with it.
The best way to describe it is a mix of Chernobyl, Silent Hill, Oppenheimer, Batman v Superman, Dune and Man of Steel. Half of it is very ominous, suspenseful, creepy and full of dread. The air horns alone sounds intense! The other half of the music brings some somberness, warmth and hopefulness. Giving a rather beautifully melancholic and hauntingly atmospheric vibe.
I really love the use of the choirs, strings, brass and electronics. At times, it sounds like the music is dancing to each other. Especially the strings and brass parts.
Of course, this movie would not be complete without Godzilla’s signature theme. It’s about as close and consistent as the original as much as possible but still sounds “updated” for the lack of a better word. It’s also cool that it’s played 3 times. My favorite version is the second cue that plays during the final fight but the third version has those really powerful drums that sounds so sublime!

With Godzilla, he’s back to his villainous roots. In the early OG Godzilla monster flicks, he was always a bad guy. When we first meet him in the beginning, there is a contempt but also a curious view on humans. He only time he attacked is when he felt provoked into doing so.
Kind of like how a spider or shark do when they’re defending their territory.
But once Godzilla mutated and transformed into the form we all know, his contempt turned into outright misanthropic hatred.
The reason he’s so outlandishly violent and destructive is that it’s implied that Godzilla blames humanity for his condition and wants to punish them all for it.
You see him smiling a few times, showing that he’s quite sadistic. I honestly don’t really blame him. He didn’t exactly asked to be a monster, let alone be continuously have atomic bombs drop on you while you’re trying to heal and it keeps burning you. I’d be pissed too!

It always blows my mind how people don't get the obvious of what Godzilla is especially going back
to the Japanese roots. Godzilla is a metaphor for the US attacks that "ended" the Pacific War during WWII. Remember, Godzilla is a Japanese creation and is told from their perspective. Godzilla minus one goes back to the original roots. What does Godzilla do? He just shows up whenever and whereever in civilian populated cities and destroys everything in sight. Regardless of how you feel about it, this is what the US did at the end of WWII. Japan never attacked US civilian cities but the US bombed civilian cities and dropped the A bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki even after it was clear that Japan was already defeated militarily. The real reason why they dropped those bombs had to do with demonstrating to position the US as a world power after the war and to scare the heck out of the Soviet Union and anyone else developing nuclear weaponry. But anyways, that is what Godzilla represents. This is why his breath here is depicted as a nuclear explosion. He is a walking A-Bomb. So keep that in mind when you watch iterations of Godzilla in this fashion. It isn't meant to be flattering. The narrative is stating that what the US did at the end of WWII to Japan was monstrous from their perspective. There is no denying that the US used an all but defeated Japan as a showcase. What if the tables were turned and Japan was clearly winning but still chose to drop A-Bombs on NYC and LA. I don't think anyone in the US today would miss the statement being made of an atomic monster climbing out of the ocean in the 1940's to destroy densely populated US cities. 🤷🏾‍♂️.....juss sayin. They sound air raid sirens when Godzilla attacks cities. I mean, how much clearer do they need to spell it out?!

  • @charlesmorris6476
    @charlesmorris6476 5 дней назад +8

Toho put out a Godzilla movie over 20 years ago called “Godzilla 2000“ in which they introduced regenerator G1 mutated genes from H bomb exposure which created instant regeneration capabilities, so it is part of Canon. Also, at the end of the movie you will notice on Noriko’s neck some of Godzilla‘s cells, he released his atomic breath blasted Off Godzilla and onto Noriko’s neck and are spreading visibly. This is why she survived the blast, evidently Godzilla’s regenerator cells healed her wounds quickly, otherwise she would’ve undoubtedly been dead due to the trauma from such a massive blast. What this means for Noriko’s future is unknown at this point, but Godzilla regenerative cells have incorporated themselves into her body.
One of the guys on your panel, watching the movie made a statement, not knowing whether the the Japanese had the atomic bomb or not, well they did not, no one had it but the US and they were the first to release such a bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end the war. However, the bomb released on bikini atoll I believe was, if I am not mistaken, the H bomb, which is much more powerful than the bombs released on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

"The shock wave pulls everything back in"
Minor correction, the shock wave pushed all the air out of the area creating a vacuum. Once the shock wave dissipated the air rushed back in to fill it back up. This actually happens with large enough explosions and not just nukes, causing hurricane speed winds.

Just an FYI. At the start, his plain was an A6M Mitsubishi, nicknamed "Zero". It was generally armed with Two 7.7 mm machine guns in the engine cowling.
Two 20 mm short-barreled, drum-fed cannons in each wing 12. These guns do not have gimble and fire straight forwerd with a convergence angle about 500 to 1000 feet out. So had he fired Godzilla would have stood up taking himself out of the line of fire then he would have commenced with a rapid disassembly of the plain and its lone occupant. End Movie role credits.

Thanks for this reaction, guys. For historical context the Americans committed the firebombing of Tokyo, killing likely upwards of 100,000 people. Entire families burned to death, survivors suffered severe burns & trauma. Japanese refer to it as “Night of the black snow”. These were mostly civilians. It was the Imperialist government that forced young men to become kamikaze pilots as a desperate effort to control the battle flow. The main character Koichi returns from failing his duty to Tokyo and being shamed by his neighbor who blames him for the deaths of her own kids.
Godzilla’s transformation was triggered by the American’s Bikini Atoll nuclear testing, from which the two nuclear bombs over Nagasaki & Hiroshima as the ultimate effort to end the war and end even more senseless slaughter of millions more allied soldiers & innocent Japanese (sacrifice the few for the many).
My own dad was a Filipino WWII veteran who did guerrilla combat in the jungles of the Philippines. He never talked about but my mom once told me took shrapnel between his thighs and if it had been an inch higher my family wouldn’t be here in the U.S. or exist at all.🇺🇸

It does take a few viewings. Takashi Yamazaki is special. Commenting on another reaction video on what I discovered, after ignoring the subtitles, lol. Opening scene has the venerable Japanese Zero Fighter opening it's wheels to land on the fictional Odo Island. Home of the fictional Japanese monster "Gojira". The premise of the movie is the survivors of the "Tokyo Fire Bombing of March 10th, 1945." Mankind's worst that had more casualties than and lost in history to the Hiroshima Bomb. "New Yankee weapon's", designed to rain fire on the civilians of Tokyo. Koichi's parents, Noriko's parents, Akiko's parents, Sumiko's children all died also, the "Captain" references to Tokyo in flames, is part of Takashi Yamazaki's Godzilla Minus One. The Tokyo Black Market scene with it's vendors, hustlers and prostitutes to introduce Noriko & Akiko to Koichi is brilliant. On one date, March 1946, the one (1) year anniversary of the "Tokyo Fire Bombing", it's raining heavily. Ironically Koichi is soaked in rain water and not fire. He shares finding steady work; a turning point. Waking up to fire outside & Godzilla; a nightmare. Another date March 1947, the two (2) year anniversary of the "Tokyo Fire Bombing", it's sunny. An Erie scene of Noriko's shadow through the window, looking in the mirror a shadow splits down her face. A ghostly premonition. She shares finding work then rises to get Akiko (Japan Reborn).
On March 10th 2024, the 79th anniversary of the "Tokyo Fire Bombing", Takashi Yamazaki & crew goes to Hollywood California to accept the Oscar Award. Takashi Yamazaki tells a great Japanese post WWII story using the great Japanese monster "Gojira" that people wouldn't be interested in anyway.
Harley Davidson, Koichi's Black Market motorcycle, and the Japanese Imperial Navy was a surprise discovery. As well as many others which are factual. Done with GGI. The "Takao's" sudden bombardment of Godzilla is ironic as the "Takao" was offshore in the surprise attack of Pearl Harbor (elder family members would share of that time, living in Hawaii).
The last line, survivor Noriko, looks to the side of the camera and says, "Is your war......now, finally over?" (Translated differently on my DVD).
Read that in Japan, after the movie in theaters, people applauded.
Takashi Yamazaki follows the line of Great story tellers of that area.

By far the best Godzilla movie! ♥ Actually seen this the nite before we went to Japan for 10 days
Monarch was surprisingly good given the state (or lack thereof) of the current film franchise it's associated with

The director of Godzilla Minus One had previously directed a masterpiece called "Eternal Zero," which was about a kamikaze pilot. Although it is not a Godzilla movie, it is no exaggeration to say that it is a prequel to Godzilla Minus One. There is also a scene in the movie where everyone salutes Godzilla after defeating him. There are various meanings behind this, but if you watch Eternal Zero, you can understand the Japanese temperament.

Originally Godzilla was only 150 foot tall. Unfortunately, they made them bigger and bigger to the point that in the monster verse it’s ridiculously big.

React to the film: DON'T BREATHE (2016), a very good, tense and surprising home invasion thriller, even from the same director as Evil Dead (2013), it's worth checking out.

You guys should react to ‘Four Brothers’ one of my childhood favs it’s starring Tyrese Gibson, Mark Wahlberg, Andre 3000, and Garret Hedlund. It’s honestly a fun watch with a few more big names in it I just don’t feel like typing lol but I definitely suggest adding it to the list very underrated.

While I'm sure there are plenty of people who went to these movies just to see the monsters fight, the issues a lot of people had with the human sides of the Monsterverse wasn't that there were people in them, but that the people were bland and uninteresting. Let's be honest, I doubt there were many people who gave a crap about the Army man and his wife in the 2014 movie, not many people cared too much about wildlife watching guy and his daughter in King of the Monsters, and even less people cared about most of the human characters in either Godzilla vs Kong movie. Most of the human characters were very boring and it shows. That's where Minus One blows all of them out of the water.

If Blake likes seeing the human angle, he should check out Garth Edwards' (Godzilla 2014's director) previous film "Monsters" (2010). It's fairly low-budget (Edwards did all the fx himself), shot guerilla style and an interesting look at life in a world with huge beings roaming around.

This film is much closer to the original Godzilla film. The way Godzilla is portrayed being more of a monster than an hero and the themes of the film. Also, how you get to know the human characters. The monsterverse stuff is generic Hollywood schlock, relying more on specticale than story. You all should check out Shin Godzilla.

I love this movie so much, but I absolutely hate the Netflix sub. It completely changes the meaning and tone of some of the more emotionally charged scenes. I dont understand why they didn't just keep the theatrical subs for this release.

Most incarnations of Godzilla have regeneration like Heisei Godzilla, Millennium Godzilla, Shin Godzilla, Godzilla Earth, Godzilla Ultima even Monsterverse Godzilla has regeneration.
Minus One Godzilla is 50.1 meter tall (164 feet tall) and Monsterverse Godzilla is 119.8 meters tall (393 feet tall).
Minus One Godzilla is comparable to 2001 GMK Godzilla for being the most evil Godzillas, both literally attack people.
GMK Godzilla's Atomic breath also causes nuclear explosions.
Fun fact Godzilla Earth has like largest kill count, he's responsible for millions of civilian casualties. Plus he destroyed the city of Los Angeles with one shot of Atomic Breath, tanked 150 nukes, (Which caused the us president to commit suicide on live tv) and destroyed an asteroid the size of Earths moon.
Also Godzilla Earth 300 meters tall (984 feet tall).

It would be great if we can have both Godzilla types in one movie. Monsterverse godzilla that show godzilla's terror even when being a "hero" that fights mosnters, and this atomic terror godzilla fighting other monsters but still continues to be humanity's enemy.

Good reaction video. Glad to see you react to the film in Japanese w/subtitles, but Netflix has two sets of English subtitles - the original subtitles from the theatrical release, and the CC subtitles of their English dub (which is the version you watched). Just my opinion, but the original subtitles were superior to the dub CC.

Most Godzilla movies fumble the Human part... Most of them, the human parts are a drag that I wish would end quickly to get back to the Godzilla parts. There's only two where the movie made me care about the humans... and one of those utterly failed at the Godzilla part. (that was 2000)... This one "Minus One" Is the only perfect Godzilla movie.
