I've never seen any Godzilla movie, or kaiju movie period, where I cared so much about the human characters. I honestly could have watched a movie about these characters with no Godzilla in it.
I watched many people reacted Godzilla-1 You are the only person know about Black rain.
Every other people said “Is the oil?” “Ashes?” “Blood?”
But No It’s a Black rain.
You know the stuff👍
This movie had 15 VFX artists and made the cgi that good compared to movies with over 250 artists and a budget almost 10X more

It may be called Minus One, but this movie is nothing short of a solid 10 in my book.
That’s why Spielberg saw it three times in IMAX. Then congratulated the director personally.
私もスピルバーグ監督と同じく、この映画を映画館で3回見ました。そのうち1回はマイナスカラー版です。この映画はマイナスワンではなく10点満点でした!
Godzilla Minus One walked away with only one Oscar, the only category it was nominated for (special visual effects). had it been nominated for additional categories, it would have walked away with them too, and Hollywood knew it!
I'm always reminded of, when Shikishima sees the "specially built" boat for the first time, I flash back to when Luke Skywalker first saw the Millenium Falcon in Star Wars. insert that conversation here:
Shikishima, "What a piece of junk!"
Noda, "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts. Plus, I made a few special modifications myself..."
It’s quite sad it only got 1 Oscar, they deserved so much more. Good for them for defying the odds with a whopping 10 million dollar budget
Sadly a country is only allowed to send one entry for best foreign movie and they send something that they thought the jury would like. Says a lot about Hollywood in my opinion
@@foggyfrogy the way Hollywood has become, yep. I wanted to be a "movie star" since childhood, and seeing the way things are now, maybe I'm glad I didn't get swept up into all that junk after all!
They chose not to submit it for additional categories. It wasn't the decision of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Godzilla Minus One won Best Picture from the Japanese Academy.
Yes it won 8 awards and shin godzilla wan 7 awards including best picture.@@RealBLAlley
Great reaction! I can enjoy fully again with this reaction video. You understand fully the essence of this cinema, and Black Rain too.
I hope for YOU and countless other people who regret not seeing this in the movie theaters that they re-release it from time to time. Especially in Black and White. I saw it twice in the theater and it arguably THE BEST movie experience I've ever had. If I comes back in IMAX I am SOOOOO going to see it again.
You were fully into the movie, just as you said too bad you didnt get to watch this in theater ^^"
At one point you said "we won't have a miracle but a sacrifice" but thinking about that sentence made me realise that a sacrifice is always a miracle in disguise, because you never see it coming and it is (almost) always welcomed.
Your reaction to the atomic ray in Ginza really stood up to me, and i've watched 30+ reactions to this movie already but i couls see the hide behind every scale raising lol that scene and sound design *chef's kiss* absolute eargasmic masterpieceful sequence :o
I must go, that's all i've got to say to you (stilgar 😂) cheers from France my man yoroshiku onegai shimasu ;)
Loïc.
So I searched up how one became a Kamikaze pilot cuz I was interested. “They had to be unmarried and childless,” it said. My take of Shikishimas character is that he didn't want to get married through the years because he would've hurt Noriko and Akiko. He knew deep down he would end up in a plane again and follow through with his inevitable death. Lucky Shikishima was given a way out after fighting his demons. That's just my take, let me know what you guys think of this piece of perfection.

Thanks for watching!
doing research on it certainly helps you appreciate even more the direction the writers went with his character! way to go.
Now that you mention this, as a WW II buff you reminded me that Kamikazes were chosen because they were single and childless. I did not remember that or even think about that. That makes it much more realistic for Shikishima not want to get too attached to Noriko and Akiko. Extremely few, if any reactors or viewers would know this. Your research shines a light on how much deeper this goes. Great job!!!
Here's what I noticed when Shikishima Kamikaze flew to Godzilla. He pulled the lever on his right side, go pause this video at 47:04 and you'll see. Yet Tachibana pointed to his left side. So Shikishima pulled the wrong freaking lever.
Thanks for the reaction! For Shikishima, I believe he knew he wouldn't fully be in the present for Noriko and Akiko. He couldn't properly live in their present or their future being so trapped by the past. It wouldn't have been right or fair to Noriko so he never married her, though as he mentioned, he wanted to.
It was terrifying in theaters and I loved it. Never been so freaked out by Big G in all of his movies, it’s amazing. I hope they’ll be opportunities for people to catch it in theaters again in the future because it’s run was so limited. So worth it.
That unemployed at 4pm meme was diabolical 😭 lol
Director Takashi Yamazaki borrowed from Jaws and Jurassic Park in terms of the first 2 Godzilla scenes. I think Yamazaki understands not only what works from the Spielberg “playbook” but also why it works (which can’t be said of the 2014 Legendary versionl).
The problem was there was very little marketing and it was a limited release that was extended only slightly.
This is one case where I wish Toho was more greedy than we Americans. If this was rereleased in theaters we’d all show up in droves and Toho would see a lot more $ (which they deserve).
Saw this in theatres 4 times, including the MINUS Color version (Black & White)! I have cried every single time watching this.
42:42. Yes the soundtrack is special.
I laughed out loud at your reaction during the regeneration scene omg bahahahhahaahaa
I saw it in the theater and it was more than amazing. Everything about this move was expertly done. The acting..... superb.!
Direction.......flawless
Cinematography..... outstanding
Sound design...... incredible
They deserve more Hollywood praise for being able to make a blockbuster like this. With this budget, Toho could have made almost 30 movies with a single Hollywood blockbuster budget.
Having said all of that, the movie does have one really big discrepancy no one as of yet has touched on.
Ask me what it is. You may agree with me.
certainly do! I was thinking that with Toho's 70 year history of showing the world the world's favorite monster, Hollywood can only hope to come in second place, but never come in first! and with the Japanese philosophy of "Zero defects" that many American companies adopted through the years, Toho certainly showed what "zero defects" looks like at the movies!
imagine if Toho had come out with THIS movie, in black and white, with these effects, back 70 years ago in 1954.
Once plot hole I did notice was how they were able to pull Godzilla up with the ships, even though he supposedly chewed through the cables.
@@Langodan good one.
Also how the hell can he stand up in the middle of the ocean.
@@primevil110872 he floats, i would assume
Thank you.Really.Thank you.
NO. Thank you!
Black and White edition is available on Vudu/ Fandango streaming
The black and white is amazing! Great reaction, thank you!! 😃
Movie opens with the venerable Japanese Zero Fighter landing on the fictional Odo Island, home of the great Japanese monster "Gojira". The premise of the movie is the survivors of the "Tokyo Fire Bombing of March 10th, 1945." As it rained fire on the civilians of Tokyo. Mankind's worst, it had more casualties & lost in history to the Hiroshima Bomb. The Tokyo "Black Market" scene with the vendors, hustlers and prostitutes to introduce Noriko & Akiko to Koichi is brilliant. The date March 1946 it's raining heavily, marking the one (1) year anniversary of the "Tokyo Fire Bombing". Ironically Koichi is drenched in rain water instead of fire. He shares good news of finding steady work; a turning point. Another date is the sinking of the "Takao". It's sudden bombarding of Godzilla is ironic, as the "Takao" was offshore in the surprise attack of Pearl Harbor.
On March 10th 2024, the 79th anniversary of the "Tokyo Fire Bombing", Takashi Yamazaki & crew is awarded the Oscar in Hollywood California. Takashi Yamazaki tells a great Japanese post WWII story using the great Japanese fictional monster "Gojira", that the world wouldn't be interested in anyway. Harley Davidson, Koichi's "Black Market" motorcycle, and the Japanese Imperial Army was a surprise discovery. As well as many others, which are factual. Done in CGI.
The last line, survivor Noriko looks to the side of the camera and says "Is your war.......now finally over?"
Read that in Japan, after the movie, people applauded.
Who would have thought that my 2nd favorite Godzilla movie (after Terror of MechaGodzilla) would be a drama about the human characters in the movie and have less to do with Godzilla himself ?
Koichi Shikishima is named after the Shikishima Squadron of the Kamikaze Special Attack Corps.
Toho is already making another godzilla movie but I don't know if it's a sequel to minus one or its a new godzilla movie that may be in the universe for minus one
I so hope it is! love a follow up with Shikishima's and Noriko's relationship, and now with his experience of dealing with the monster would also help.
wait actually?
And hopefully a new kaiju in minus 2
Who cut the onions
I can confirm onions were cut
You did!😂😢
This was an amazing movie. Great reaction
The big difference was the level of talent with the CGI artists
I really hope they re-release this. I remember hearing about it come out in theater, but I didn’t even think about it because I’ve never been a Godzilla fan. I will definitely go watch it if it is rereleased
Clicked on your vid because of the Donovan jersey.
good football knowledge
ガジーラ‼️
i like your room setup
28:50 And now it's personal....
🎉
Watch SHIN Godzilla, plz!
its on the list for sure
The only fault in this film is that they tip their hand about the ejection seat and don’t leave it as a surprise
