Calling themselves The Spirit of Scotland, the worldâ s top solo players have come together for the first time to attempt the impossible: compete against legendary bands that have been around for decades. What are their chances after just six days of practice? Will they even qualify? In the end, all that matters is what happens on the day. Visit www.OnTheDayMovie.com
one of the best pipe band in the world!!! i'm sure they will make it to the final.
Accompanied the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band to the Worlds in 2003. Had a great time with John Elliott and all the rest. Enjoying a pint and listening to the bands in the quad at Strathclyde University was heaven. Taking my mum (and lots of kleenex) to see the movie on Sunday.
Fantastically made, it'd great to see the full product. I heard about the band and its great learn about it and all its players.
Go Spirit of Scotland!!!
Cheers from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
John,
Your documentary was excellent. I bought a copy whilst at Winter Storm in Kansas City this past January. I've watched it about 10 times. My daughters even like watching it!
Thanks. The plan is to premiere it at the Edinburgh Film Festival in June and then release it just before the World Championships in Glasgow in August. But it all depends on if and when we get the funds to finish it.
I don't see why not. Sign up on the film's website so we can let you know when it comes out on DVD.
It was an experiment that may never happen again. Pulling everyone together was an tremendous task and the band members each had to pay their own airfare, meals and accommodations. So many pipers are top soloists and I think really needed to get back to competing as such. But who knows, there has been talk, and we'll have to see what happens. At least the band will live on in my documentary, which is why I HAD to make it.
Better better I hear this but all who play the pipes are indeed the gods of this world ,my opinion
a pretty challenge, but with such musicians, I believe it possible, not only a question of technic, but complicity and firendship, and after all, if they had not tried that would have been a pity, just for the fun and music, the world's are not a trial but a challenge for everybody and for the whole bands, and even if that need a lot of practicing, the passion leads you to your best and if you are the bests OK ! but however, the best is to participate
Cheers lads I'm proud tae be a piper
I hope to premier the film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival this June and then screen it at Piping Live in Glasgow during the week leading up to the Worlds in August. Maybe DVDs will come out after that. Please show your support by becoming a member of the ON THE DAY group on Facebook. And tell your friends. Thanks. -- John
It's called Clan MacCrae Society. Have you visited the film's website? We could really use your donation to help complete the film! Nothing is too small. Thanks.
Will you be able to get this dvd in northern ireland? It looks brill !!
Eerie hearing Kilpatrick's comments looking back. Now he's their guy.
Would anybody happen to have the sheet music for Clan Mcrae Society for bagpipes.
Clan MacCrae Society. What do you think about this doc trailer?
Gasp! Peter Hendrikson is really hot.
its already happened... they did actually
@Cloudy2301 Exactly
I will never be a piper like pipers who learned at 10 YOld BUT i will try to do my best To be A Piper !! & this Movie Give me Chills like no other & i really hope to going to Glasgow this August !!
Sc4wt......SERIOUSLY.... drumming music is way harder to learn than piping music.... pipes have a melody...much easier to remember than a beating eg paradidlle flam ratamacue 7stoke roll onto a triplet.....and so on and so forth. And i no this because Im a drummer and a piper..... ChrisZ70 is so right...
Its already happened... they didnt. haha
The same old fucking tunes all the time
Reid Maxwell is a goof. Johnny however. Greatest drummer on earth. Most knowledge of how the music is played. I would know. He teaches me
Are you high
Am I crazy or is the pitch of that opening piece a mile below present standards? In other words, home, for me.
yes it is desperately flat for some reason
@@evanm3703 your right, it definetly was not at this pitch in reality. there must be gremlin in the editing software, I believe you can bend the pitch with a professional set up. so somebody has basically turned the pitch down, maybe by accident.
It sounds crazy flat by modern standards- just as it should be! It’s such a beautiful, chunky, rich sound!
@@em.142 its a little flat for my liking but each to their own!
For sure. It will be available at some point all over the world via DVD or download. Prior to that, I'd like to see it make the rounds at film festivals, and have a pipe band at every screening! Then hopefully get some cable TV airings. Sign up at the On The Day website and we can keep you posted on when and where you can see it.
The band notes call it The Grey Old Wife of Raasay and P/M Roddy MacLeod did the arrangement. Another arrangement which sounds way different from the original tune is their slow air, Leaving Friday Harbor. ~ John McD.
Yes, the plan is to release it on DVD, but we are still trying to raise the funds to complete the project. Glad you like the trailer.
I often wandered what all the cameramen following the band were actually working on.
MAKE MORE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers lads ! I'm proud to be a piper
In piping you need to learn tunes just the same plus you have to learn to blow steadily we need to remeber beating too thats my point of view .I am a piper so I think.
This trailer is fantastic John!!!
I can't watch this before I go to sleep because it gets my adrenaline pumping!
Especially that last tune, AHHHH, gives me chills.
(Anyone know the name? hehe)
the grey lady of rassay but theyve arranged it differently and pretty much changed the tune as
a whole
to bad they did place and so aparently he was wrong jim kilpatrick had it more spot on
Great to read all the nice comments. ON THE DAY will have its theatrical premiere in 51 theatres across Canada on Feb. 9, 2011 with an encore screening on Feb. 13, 2011. Check out the Cineplex and Empire Theatres website, my web site and Facebook for updated info.
