@Anonymous71892 we just got a 3rd for Maata. Why not keep Walman and trade away, give away or waive Holl and Maata instead. The Walman trade just was not any good. At the same time throwing money on random guys that are at best healthy scratches... Like Lagesson and Motte. I would rather have had Walman than more fluff taking up a roster spot instead of a rookie.
Walman cost 3.4... almost same as Maata. Who in the right mind would prefer Maata over Walman? Well Yzerman I guess. But I bet SJ are pretty happy right now.
Hronek is not exactly known for the defensive side of his game and currently has 2 points against his new $7.25M cap hit. Yzerman pulled some significant value out of that deal. Would make that trade again every day.
In the grand scheme of things, Walman does not push the envelope for Detroit. However… would I have preferred we moved Maatta instead of Jake to SJS? 100%
I like Maatta, he’s solid, but Walman is better. Maatta got the Wings a 3rd but SY could manage anything but the give-away for fan favorite Walman? I’m a fan, not a GM but this is still questionable at its very best. You could have replaced any defender on the Wings not named Edvinsson or Seider with Walman and has a slightly better defense but immensely better blue line offense. Anything short of a playoff spot makes this look like a major fumble.
The Walman move was largely cap related, but you can't argue our defense is much worse outside the top pair. Gostisbehere also doing great. Yzerman needed to keep at least one of the two.
I don't see how you can call the Maata trade a huge mistake. The Wings got a decent return on a player that was rotating games as the 6-8th Dman. Trading him also doesn't really impact how much time Holl gets, except for the few times they might play Johansson on his off-hand side. What trading him does is it frees up roster space to keep Kasper up, and allows them to accumulate cap space for Kane's bonuses, or roster moves later potentially. As for griping about the Walman trade, its silly at this point. No one knows why he was traded but there's one thing we do know, that was most certainly the best deal SY could get. Before anyone chirps yes Walman was traded, at least in part, due to some bad contracts by SY. He also was traded in part because of his bad season, and quite possibly some other issues we aren't aware of. It seemed at the time like the Walman trade was at least related to the Trouba trade that wasn't, but some more recent reports puts some question on that so who knows?
@Disciple_of_Larkin71 yes,, just yes. Jake was bad last year. Bad as in bad. If Jake was well thought of around the league Yzerman would have had no trouble getting rid of him.
@@sergioalpert66💯 right. Also someone had to go. We signed Razor, Seider, Kane, and Bergg. He was the one who played bad last year making to much money.
If it's not clear that multiple people in the locker room did not like Walman and didn't want him around then you're not paying attention. That being said, Yzerman built a dumpster fire.
Maata and Walman are just a couple of cap casualties caused by bad contracts given to Copp/Compher/Holl. Too much cap space tied up in marginal players.
Lol genius armchair GM right here in the comment section... Walman was bad last season even in the offensive side of the game he's not a top 4 D in most of the teams but Okay the fake GM's like you have stated 😅😅🤡🤡
Man I hope you are right! He’s just the type of player we need to create a spark ⚡️, unfortunately playing for Detroit the zebras will probably put him in the box alot but the wings have nothing to lose this year, hell why not, unfortunately I don’t see Stevie getting rid of Lelond and I don’t think Larkin is to happy about it this guy would give some fire into the locker room.
I have no clue what he is doing. We gave up walman, maata, and geistebehere. Those defensemen were fantastic last year, even though points were low. They knew where to be and when and now they are going to kill it, not on the wings. I get there not going to make it to stanley cup, but we were better last year than this year defensively.
He tried to resign ghost , Matta is in the last year of his contract we got a third and now AJo gets to play Walman wouldn’t have helped this D at all and no one is going to touch Holl’s contract
SY has not done well. He no longer gives us fans the good feelings of we are coming back. Bad contracts and holding some youth back in GR by bad veteran signings. Wings are, so far, very difficult to watch this season.
@@thestifmyster1yes. He is responsible for this dumpster fire. None of his summer moves made sense. Outside of signing his RFAs. He has done a bad job in several off seasons. Last year he did well however.
😂 is this bait? You should look at the roster when he started include GR when looking, only one or two of the players (larkin and jv) is on the team still plus GR HAD NOTHING. The hardest thing for people who dont follow the team as a whole is following the pipeline. In 2 years when more of GR is ready to move up we will be in a better cap space and better flow of prospects. Sure you want to make the playoffs now, but at the cost of what? I think we need a different coach if things dont change in the next 4-5 games.
He was not traded for assets. He was given away together with s second round pick... San Jose straight up pickpocketed Yzerman.
Walman was given away to open up cap space to get Jacob Trouba, only Trouba blocked the trade at the last minute.

Walman has been outstanding for the Sharks. Easily their best defender this season. The 2nd round draft pick was the cherry on top.
Wallmen was traded because Yzerman didn’t like him personally…Also, let’s not forget we traded another great defenseman to Vancouver…
Lol, I do that trade with Vancouver 10/10 times. ASP > Hronek
Wouldn’t have been able to sign Hronek anyway. Cost was too high
Hronek is not exactly known for the defensive side of his game and currently has 2 points against his new $7.25M cap hit. Yzerman pulled some significant value out of that deal. Would make that trade again every day.

Have completely lost confidence in Yzerman. It’s very sad. I have stopped watching. I can’t handle it.
I know what you mean. I'm still pulling for the Yzerplan but we straight up regressed this past season, plain and simple.

Bro had 12 goals as a defenseman. On a horrible Wings team he was only a -2, he clearly wasn't that bad. Either you're a retard or you're just stupid.
If it's not clear that multiple people in the locker room did not like Walman and didn't want him around then you're not paying attention. That being said, Yzerman built a dumpster fire.
That’s not a fair comparison. A dumpster fire can help keep the homeless warm thus serving a purpose.
Yzerman overthinks the whole process of rebuilding
Has Walman done "the griddy" yet for San Jose? 😂
He did the griddy twice as a red wing. Hey showtime pushes away his team mates to celebrate
I mean how were the Wings going to sign Seider and Raymond with Walman on contract?
not sign Tarasenko? Trade Maatta earlier instead of Walman?
No, because im getting to see Kasper and Edvinsson play in a permanent roster spot.
Maata and Walman are just a couple of cap casualties caused by bad contracts given to Copp/Compher/Holl. Too much cap space tied up in marginal players.
Yup!
traded cause he did the griddy lol
gotta love the yzerplan 😂
Walman straight up is not good defensively. The Griddy stuff got embarrassing
Huge mistake is an understatement. Yzerman is operating off of half a brain cell.

It’s not like the team can get any WORSE at this point.
Thats some famous last words right there
Cue a fifteen game skid.

Walman hooked up with yzermans daughter.
