    450 foot lbs for the gear. rebuilt a few and if I remember correctly its the same bearing used in the 71, 92 idler gear and you need a 1 to 4 lb pull with a scale to get a preload on the bearing to get it to work properly

  • @donridzon8914
    @donridzon8914 5 лет назад +2

    There is a preload on the new bearings FYI

  • @user-pp1dz1ei8k

    When the nut is tightened, how do you adjust the preload? Do you alter the thickness of the spacer between the bearings?

      That's why the rebearing option is appealing. You can buy a core gear that is still intact, rebearing it and be up and running cheaper. You just have to make sure that you get the right core.

    Hope you can help me out. 2002 S60 12.7 when it's fully up to temp shutting it down then starting after few mins will whine somewhere up front for 7-10 sec then fade away. Checked bullgear and all other gears no play removed all belts still whine BTW no whine when cold. I did rods mains and new oil pump pressure valves 6 months ago there was no whine before or after. I thought it was a oil pump bought new nothing. I am beginning to think those pressure valves are what's making noise as I can hear whine under oil pan right where those valves sit what do you think? You cannot be working at an authorized ddc dealer. This is NOT allowed. That bearing kit is aftermarket not ddc authorized. If your core is good they are not $1200 . Just sayin', do not attempt this at home. The cause of loose bull gear is not the nut loosening, it is typically fuel in the crankcase caused poor lubrication of the bull gear bearings causing the chrome to flake off the rollers and races. I replaced many bull gears and we got them for

    • @battleaxefabandmachine
      @battleaxefabandmachine  3 года назад +1

      Although I have worked at a detroit shop this wasn't. Yes the kit is aftermarket. The reason it is available is because it can be done successfully. Fuel dilution is not the only reason for failure. Man made parts wear out. I have done it a handful of times with no trouble.
