It all depends on the density of the foam. If it's soft, I use a slotted screwdriver. If it's harder, I use a small pry bar and sort of chip away the foam.
I never use "Fix a Leak". It doesn't work. I tested it a few times and I do have a video on it but I don't want to get back lash from the company who makes it if I put it out.
I have a hot tub right now that took awhile to find the leak in the "footwell". I took off one side, then another. Dug out a lot of foam. Found it by looking under everything with a flashlight to find a drip. If there's a leak somewhere in the center and you can't find it, you will find it if you flip it on its side and its around foam. A leak stands out pretty good. If foam is wet or discolored at all is where the leak is or very close by.
If the water leaked out all of the way to the bottom does that mean the leak is in the bottom where the suction is? There is no light in the footwell. Thermospa lexington.. no foam inside

Ok, thank you for the primer
My tub's less than a year old, and I'm not expecting a happy job tomorrow
What do you use to dig out the foam?

@@VIPPoolsandSpas I tried fix a leak three times and it did stop leaking for a while. Now it's back so I have to look at it again.

How can you find the leak on center bottom before putting on side to fix ?

If it's at the footwell, most likely its at a light or suction.
