I have a friend who has been grading cards with psa for over 10 years. He is nice enough to pre-screen them for a case of beer haha!! Over the past year and about 400ish cards to to PSA we are running at 75% 10s. Have to be super picky. Here is a tip....turn the cards over and look at the backs 1st...then take the pile that passes the 1st qc check then look at the front. The back wont allow you to have an emotional attachment to the card. Im in the color match camp myself but need to take the emotional side out of equation. That Rice auto is going to do well for you 💪
Yeah if you send off only perfectly centered, perfect looking cards you should get more 10s. I notice most singles I buy off Ebay usually has a small surface issue. Usually a faint print line or scratch line, or nip or ding in the cardstock. Sure some of these tiny flaws may get past some graders but not all. You don't really need a jeweler's loupe. If you see something that looks off, the grader will see it as well.
@beachrain8617 Not every card is perfect. There is always risk involved. I think "what if this was 9 can at least get the grading fee back" case in point. I sent 2 red/white/blue cj stroud in, I thought 9s... both came back 10s, but I knew if it was a 9, i wouldn't have lost a lot of money.
Some tips for anyone. I use a 40x handheld microscope with a built in light. If you can see even the smallest worn corner on front (white or colored) likely an 8. White on back can get a 9. Full print lines and dimples on back can gem. Small print lines and dimples on front can gem. If it looks off center at all on front likely 9. Border edging likely 8. Check 9 values before grading, and think of value if you dont gem. If front doesnt look perfect to the naked eye, your 9/10 is prob 50/50. Consistent 80% gem over 5 submissions. The distracted grader is not my experience, but i trust if it hapens to others. Use the "am i ok if its a 9" before sending, and eliminate the emotional "i think i could get lucky" cards, those are usually always 9s or 8s. Sharing cause i know its tough out there. Cheers
Yeah I just got back 9 cards from PSA, six got 10s, the three got 9s(ones I had doubts). The Prizm /150 Premium Factory Set(silver pandora) from this year are jacked up. I bought like 6 of them and all had issues. I sent off a Jaquez & Lively both had a couple faint print lines on the front and they got PSA 9s which I was okay with before sending off. Finding cards that are possible PSA 10s is not easy. Maybe 1/3 of the cards I buy off Ebay look like a PSA 10, and I only buy perfectly centered cards. It's always surface issues.
@beachrain8617 yah I hear ya man. Last year's was a nightmare for me, even tho I paid next to nothing (ebay sale of my life) I dimed a butler jersey match....that was about it. Ginobili auto /10 made it better ha. If its not a strong 10 candidate, I throw it in a mag or top loader. 9's are just brutal unless it a big card
I posted a video a few days ago. Even though I live in CA and send my PSA submissions to the CA facility, sometimes my graded cards are sent back to me from New Jersey. I noticed that my grades seem to be way better from the CA facility over the NJ one. Coincidence? Maybe, but regardless I’m not thrilled my cards are getting shipped by PSA from CA to NJ without my approval. I bet your submission came from the NJ facility.
Mine recently have been shifted to Jersey also and my grades have suffered greatly ever since. I'm about done with it all together at this point. I think recently they realized that people getting 65% to 75% psa 10s were making really good money and they decided that regular people don't need 75% gem rates. 35% will keep us on the edge and keep us coming back expecting better results next time
I always love these videos because it just reinforces that nobody can tell the difference between a modern PSA 10 or 9 or even 8 sometimes unless it’s way off centered. It just shows how ridiculous the grading system is. It just baffles me that people still pay a premium for a PSA 10 when you can have the same card in a 9. Now flippers are the only group of people in the hobby that I understand buying PSA 10’s.
I recently got an order back of 35 MLB auto cards, all 2024, and got like 95% PSA 9s. I think the grader was rushing to catch up with his lunch buddies or something and just gave them all 9s. Some of them I may snap out and resub just to confirm my theory that the whole PSA grading process is a big joke, unfortunately the joke is on us...however sometimes though it works in your favor...submitted a Herbert auto 2020 rookie card numbered to /21 a couple years ago, came back a PSA 8. Sat in my closet for two years, decided to crack it and resub just for fun, just came back a PSA 10 worth north of $3K and PSA did not even upcharge me. Great consistency PSA!
I was trying to scrape together another PSA order even though my last one wasn't great but I should probably just sell the shit raw and move on. The couple months it'll take to get back combined with the 8's their handing out, it's probably just pissing away money sending them.
Thanks! Interested in your valut experience. I'll wait to see what you have to say before commenting aboit my 20 card /slab experiment. I'm not too enthused about the direct to ebay PSA service...the extra shipping costs are btutal imo. Thanks again and good luck!!!!
PSA will continue to grade 1 million cards a month. They upcharge everything because they can. Why would they care because they will continue to get your submissions no matter how many PSA 8's they give you.
I'll add my 2 cents, i do a few thousand cards a year and i have a very high % for 10's i have my own dark room for scrubbing, and my last order i got 20 PSA 9's in a row, NEVER NEVER ever have i ever had that much of a blown-out rate in my 25 years of grading, so something sketch is going on over there!! NOT HAPPY!!
Im in the same boat. Modern subs have been getting smoked with 9's and I have submitted thousands of cards with a high gem rate. Centering had to be my downfall and I know that PSA is using tech to determine centering now so that might be the issue
I was charged $65 shipping for 31 cards from grading to vault. It's wildly inefficient and needlessly costly to customers for them to package up every order individually to go to the same destination. Also I've now sold 10 items on the Vault/Ebay system. 3 appear to be non paying bidders and I've learned these can get permanently stuck in the system until PSA gets a backend database programmer to manually fix them.
PSA is crushing on centering. I got smoked on my Topps chrome submission (over 30 cards) and the only issues were centering. I also sent in 2 amazing Wemby autos and ever so slightly off centered and both got 9's. Nothing other than centering could have been the issue. I think your comment was spot on.
What is price to send one card to BGS? PsA been damaging my cards I think, when they take them out of card savers and I’m getting bad grades because of it
Off topic question I've came across in PSA slabs do they completely change the way they look because there's no injection molding on the bottom but on the side instead the density of the plastic is different the border on the cases different any ideas if that is a new change sorry for the off topic question?
Sorry about the rough gem rate NEO. Quick question, did they ship back from NJ or Cali? I commened on another video, but I have noticed my Gem Rate was about 15-20% lower on my last two PSA orders that came from NJ. Also, I am little confused about what you mean on the shipping charges. Does PSA charge another shipping cost to send cards to the vault? Look forward to hearing back from you. Until next time.....
I recently subbed to SGC for the first time, all vintage, and got better grades than expected. I have another active order in now. I am considering sending some 89 Topps Traded Tiffany cards in because of all the videos I am seeing recently from PSA submissions has got me super apprehensive and with no confidence I am getting a 10. At least SGC has possibility of giving a 9.5.
That's crazy, I also just received my Sept. MLB special back yesterday. It was mostly 2023 draft chrome 1st. Gem'd 19/20 and I couldn't believe it! You just never know sometimes
I'm trying to decide if this is a PSA issue or a Topps issue. If we are spending this much in cards, I want cards that consistently grade a 10 from the pack otherwise I might stop buying wax
There are a lot more 8’s (or lower) on modern stuff that is head scratching. I haven’t changed my pre grading process at all and the gem rates are way down. I’ve gotten a few low end cards damaged by PSA resulting in 5’s and 6’s, and regarding the 7’s and 8’s I think some of the graders are grading tougher than their “grading standards” posted online. It’s frustrating.
Resale value on CGC is terrible dealers at card shows don't want them. Nobody will buy sports cards in a CGC case. Only thing they are good for is TCGs & Marvel cards and trying for a Pristine 10, but in that scenario BGS would be better, trying for a BGS Pristine Gold or Black label Perfect 10.
@@JamesAnthonyCards I agree, my gem rate is significantly lower from NJ. I just sent a couple subs, if they come back from NJ, I might be completely done with PSA.

We need AI grading and explanations on why any given card got knocked down from a 10. PSA is corrupt as can be while people are investing large sums of money into collections and getting screwed over. Shame on them!
There is just no consistency with PSA and it's so frustrating. I've subbed then cracked and re-subbed about a dozen cards that have received anywhere from 1 to 4 grade difference. It's just ridiculous that the market leader has such brutal quality control when it comes to their graders. I refuse to accept grades I know are not accurate but it's also still the most cost effective when you consider the resale value. I hope PSA fixes this issue because it's out of control
One of the pro tips I've heard from an actual grader, never send multiples of the same card because one will always look better than the other one. Mentally that will give the grader an excuse to give a lower grade for at least one of them.
When I send multiples I've had really good luck with putting the worse condition one first. If they give the first copy a 10 then they will almost have to give the second a 10 also.
@MasterShake300 definitely agree with the logic, tho it can be done. I have hit all tens on 2 groups of 3 wembys. Then again the centering was millimeter difference so might not apply

PSA is a joke. I’ve resubmitted at least 6 cards in the past that jumped 2 grades (7 to 9) and (8 to 10). It just doesn’t make sense. If every submitter got 10's then they wouldnt be worth much. Why does everyone expect 10's? I personally rather buy a lower priced 9 than a 10 but i'm more of a collector. If I can sell cards then great but if not, PC......
This looks almost like my last order. 5 psa 10’s, 9 psa 9’s and 1 psa 8. I had more 9’s but way less 10’s. This actually makes me think I’m not going renew my psa membership,
I'm assuming your trying to sell most these cards, but always get the auto and card graded together. Looks so much better! And a 10 on an auto will save a bad card grade. I'm at the point I don't even consider getting auto cards unless I see an auto grade. I understand it takes much longer and a few more bucks, but the extra effort goes a long ways. But if you are just looking to turn around and sell immediately, getting card graded only is fine. If PC card, you must get both graded 😂
psa is rigged for insiders like nat turner and friends to give each other gems. Send in those same cards you get different grades ive stop sending in stuff
This was a 15 card order not sure why I said 13 cards in vid. 13 card MLB special and 2 card value plus.

I commented before you spoke about it
If every submitter got 10's then they wouldnt be worth much. Why does everyone expect 10's? I personally rather buy a lower priced 9 than a 10 but i'm more of a collector. If I can sell cards then great but if not, PC......
The 9s don’t bother me it’s getting 8s
This looks almost like my last order. 5 psa 10’s, 9 psa 9’s and 1 psa 8. I had more 9’s but way less 10’s. This actually makes me think I’m not going renew my psa membership,
Kurt’s has been producing for me well. If your aren’t selling them and their pc use Kurt’s
Card Grading Is A Scam.....
It's getting worse
I'm assuming your trying to sell most these cards, but always get the auto and card graded together. Looks so much better! And a 10 on an auto will save a bad card grade. I'm at the point I don't even consider getting auto cards unless I see an auto grade. I understand it takes much longer and a few more bucks, but the extra effort goes a long ways. But if you are just looking to turn around and sell immediately, getting card graded only is fine. If PC card, you must get both graded 😂
Auto grades are very overrated
psa is rigged for insiders like nat turner and friends to give each other gems. Send in those same cards you get different grades ive stop sending in stuff
Patrick Mahomes cards have a lot baked in and are over priced.
He’s having a bad season stats wise.
