He said it had all fallen into the ocean, and Wikipedia says the beach was covered with new lava.

If you noticed the close up of him singing, he was curling his lip like Elvis. I interpret this song as having a relationship with someone who is not good for you. If you intend to watch a live performance of this song, I would recommend an early unplugged version. I've watched many reactions to this song, and watching your reaction was a pleasure.
