Thanks for posting. I design in Blender3D and have been building my own supports into my models because I never really followed or understood the automatically generated supports of the slicer, and I found that the slicer's supports used a ton more filament than the ones that I could design, and also tended to be harder to remove. But I think I will look into them again after watching this, since building your own custom supports can be quite tedious.

Thank you for a great explanation of the many support options. I've been very happy with cura supports on my Ender3, except... I wish the layer immediately above the support interface is more solid. I always see gaps between the lines as if it's printing too high, which I suppose it is because the minimal gap is one layer height. So the filament is "dropped" one layer down rather than resting on previous layer as normal. Do you have any thoughts on improving the quality of the layer just above the support interface layer?

@@SlicePrintRoleplay Hi, are there ways to lower the printing time and weight of the print? I'm trying to print the decorative top of a Chinese lantern. It's currently at 18 hrs and 5 mins and 77g.
@@joannayee8 absolutely you can! There are three settings that can really cut down on print time and weight. First, Infill percentage. For most models you can get away with an Infill value between 5% and 25%. If the part doesn't have a lot of small intersecting inner chambers and won't be subjected to a lot of stress then 5% is usually fine. But play around with different settings and look at your sliced preview. From there you can see how different Infill settings will effect your print. Second, Infill type. There are lots of different types of Infill. Cura has an option for Lightning Infill which put Infill only where it's needed. This can save time, but the model won't be as strong as if you used a standard Infill types. I recommend Grid Infill pattern. It's one of the fastest Infill types and provides great results in most cases. Third, Wall Line Count. This value has a dramatic impact on print time. It determines how many walls you have running around the perimeter of your print. Think of Wall Line Count as the outermost walls running around your house. A higher value gives you stronger walls and (sometimes) more detail. However, it will also increase print time as the nozzle will spend more time running around the perimeter of the print. In most situations a Wall Line Count of 2 is fine. Let me know if that answers your question.

That's great! Like I said in the video, I definitely encourage everyone to test out different settings to find what works best for them. For me Zig Zag are a bit too sturdy especially for smaller models. But I do use them occasionally on certain prints.
I had a feeling that a portion of my current cosplay prop printing project required supports.... and indeed it does. My question is... How does one proceed to pry said supports off said model after it's completion? I was getting filament ramen early on in the previous prints and knew full well that I'd be stuck with the trade off of having to remove supports. Any useful tips/tricks in doing so without destroying your model??

You are very welcome, I'm really glad you found the video helpful! For the most part you can use these settings. However, make sure your Support Z Distance is set to either 0.16 (one layer worth of gap), 0.32 (two layers worth of gap), or 0.64 (three layers worth of gap). I don't normally print with 0.16mm layer height do I don't know which is worth testing first. Best of luck!

@@ziohalex let's see if we can fix that. Can you join my Facebook group or reach out to me directly? I'm pretty sure I'm on all the major socials.
Awesome info. I finally understand when to use supports and why those sliders are in the slicing software :) Thanks so much for an actual explanation that makes sense to a total 3D noob like myself.
Empowering new 3D makers is the #1 goal of my channel. So I'm very glad to hear that's this video was easy to pick up. 😊
Thanks, it is extremely helpful
Glad to hear that!
Love the info thanks so much!!! Great bits of advice for a beginner
So glad you found it helpful!
Thank you this was sooo helpful!
Really glad to hear that!
Excellent information well presented. I'm not a newbie but learned a few things from your video.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Great vid , no woffle just info . thanks
I'm of the opinion that waffling is only acceptable when it refers to eating a large amount of waffles.
I'm glad you found the video helpful. 😊
The support wall was annoying me for a long time. It makes it hard for the pliers to make a cut. I disabled the wall and reduced the support line density. Now gonna put for printing! Thanks a lot for the amazing tut!
I totally agree, support walls can be a pain. It makes them so solid!
So glad this tutorial helped you!
@@SlicePrintRoleplay update: I got a great print finally. Was able to peel off support so easily. Thanks a ton again!
thank you so much, it was very helpful
I'm really glad to hear that!
Noob here. Would've loved to see how this turned out and how you might've painted/treated it. Helpful nonetheless.
I appreciate that input. I am planning on releasing a video covering some tips for removing supports. However, I held off added them to this video so it wouldn't get too long.
Ultra helpful for a noob like me, thank you.
I'm really glad to hear that it helped you!
thank you man you are a life saver
@@LukeA-kh5fq you are very welcome!
Tree supports printed in a much softer filament could be awesome but they always went in my model or made it easier for my model to break
Where did you get the model for the overhang test? Is it built into the cura software or did you download it from somewhere? Thanks for the video, very concise and clear explanations for beginners
You are very welcome for the video.
Unfortunately I can no longer find the file I used in the video. However, I did link a similar file on the video description.
Line supports are very sturdy but I find the zig zag supports are just as good and easier to remove, at least for me.
That's great! Like I said in the video, I definitely encourage everyone to test out different settings to find what works best for them.
For me Zig Zag are a bit too sturdy especially for smaller models. But I do use them occasionally on certain prints.
Very helpful thank you!!
Glad to hear it. You are welcome. 😊
Loved the intro, thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Aww thanks! You are very welcome.
Thank you for sharing this! 🙏😇
You are very welcome.
This was amazing, so helpful!!!!
I'm really glad to hear that! 💚
Any clue on when that tree support video is coming out?
That will be coming soon actually. 😊
Thanks for the explanation!
Glad you found it helpful. 😊
Thank you so much mate.
You are very welcome!
Amazing video. Are you still using the normal support or are you now using the improved cura v5.4 support ?
To be completely honest I wasn't aware much changed with v5.4. I'll look into that this evening. 🤔
@@SlicePrintRoleplay Since this update i have only used tree support, it works really well for printing minis. I think it's a shame that no one is talking about it on RUclips
Thank you for another great informative video, very much appreciated !
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic tutorial, thank you so much!
You are very welcome. I'm glad it helped you.
i've never been able to remove supports. followed your video and settings and they still won't come off. what's wrong with me?
I'm new to 3d printing and I'm glad to see that vid. I'll try all. Thank you so much and do you have any vids for retraction?
You are very welcome! I'm glad you found the video helpful.
I don't have any videos on retraction currently, but I will hopefully have one soon.
@@SlicePrintRoleplay thank you so much again and again. 😇

@@SlicePrintRoleplay thank youuu. I just have öne questıon. Your prints looks so good and you don't have any zip marks. I have so much zıp marks. How can I fix it? Already thanks you.
Man this is the best video by far do you have anything on layers as well? I feel like my layers are too separated
I really appreciate that, thank you!... I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I do have this video going over layers. If that doesn't help you just let me know and I'll gladly see if I can help.

Organic auto tree supports in Bambu slicer are the best
thanks so much for this video!! I use 0.16 mm instead of 0.2mm layer height, is it still fine if i use your support settings?
You are very welcome, I'm really glad you found the video helpful!
For the most part you can use these settings. However, make sure your Support Z Distance is set to either 0.16 (one layer worth of gap), 0.32 (two layers worth of gap), or 0.64 (three layers worth of gap). I don't normally print with 0.16mm layer height do I don't know which is worth testing first.
Best of luck!
Thanks for video.👍
You are very welcome.
